Because of numerous problems with oil leaking in this area, the old style O-ring can slip and leak when you least expect it. The second photo shows an original oil cooler adapter that this ring fits on the left. It also clearly shows the thicker O-ring on the right and the original GM narrow stock O-ring in the middle.
