2020 CHRISTMAS M&MS CONTEST -
Part of our annual tradition is our annual Christmas M&Ms contest. The rules are simple. You get one guess. Your single guess must be submitted to my email [email protected] no later than this Saturday, December 19th 6pm eastern time. Contest is open to all subscribers except those in the Turbo business. No guesses will be accepted until after 3 pm today when the Inner Circle goes out to all our members.
Closest guess under actual count or the exact count is the winner. In case of a tie, the earliest email is the winner. The winner will receive the actual container, a Pennsylvania lottery ticket which has a possible value of $50,000 if you win, my Kirban’s Guide to the 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regals book, and a M&M gift pack of M&Ms, Skittles, and Peanut M&Ms.
The winner will be announced in next week’s Inner Circle, December 23rd 2020. (That will be the last Inner Circle for 2020). We will resume the weekly Inner Circle Wednesday, January 6th 2021.

PARTS UPDATE -
We still have in stock a few of the 9 piece grey trunk kit #6510 and just one black trunk kit #7764. Either trunk kit the price is $279.95 each. Either kit is a tremendous improvement over the $3 ill fitting throw rug Buick put in the trunk!
Our supplier who buys 50 analog fuel senders at a time can’t get any more analog fuel senders from any of his sources. We have none available. The part number is #7441. I have no idea if and when we will get any more.
The Buick Motorsport fender covers are almost sold out. We have just one left. Again, the one color is incorrect on the Buick Motorsport fender covers. We will not be carrying these fender covers until the company decides to correct this mistake. The part number is #7547. The price is $32.95. We only have one! You must call our office 215-766-1611.
A NICE UPGRADE TO CONSIDER -
One of the most overlooked upgrades to make on any 1984-1987 Turbo Regal is to simply go with our heavy duty Valve spring set. Your factory valve springs have weakened over the 30 plus years. This simple upgrade will increase acceleration making it more responsive and the power band should be 200 to 300 rpm higher. There is no downside to this simple upgrade. The most popular valve cover gaskets we sell is the FelPro. The FelPro #7060. The price is $21.95. Replacing the spark plug wires with our proper color spark plug wires and lengths is another nice finishing touch. Chances are you are probably missing one or more of the special GM spark plug plastic wire dividers which we offer also.
The spark plug wire dividers are GM, which is remarkable they are still available from GM! Not much is still available from GM for these cars. You will feel the difference if the valve springs have never been replaced before. These new valve springs have the factory damper inside each spring. The part number is #6746. The price for the set of valve springs is $59.95. The Fel Pro valve cover gaskets is #7060 and the price is $21.95. The spark plug wires is part #1531 and the price is $69.95. The GM plug wire holders is #6803 and the price is $11.95. All These items are usually in stock. Again these small improvements done one at a time will make a difference. With the valve covers off it's a great time to freshen them up to look like new again. One of the best paints to use is #7419 our Aluminum Grey Last Blast High Temperature Formula Spray paint. The price is $17.95 a can. This color closely matches the way the valve covers would have looked when they were new.
PHOTO 2 - We show the #6746 Valve Spring set (12). Fits all the 1984-1987 Turbo Regal models. This upgrade reminds me years ago in our GTO business we would sell the 1.65 rockers to increase the angle on the older 389 engines which I believe originally had a 1.55 rockers. Again I am going by memory. I think when Pontiac went to the 400 engine they used 1.65 rockers.
PAST TURBO REGAL MEMORIES -
Going through more of my photos from the early days of the aftermarket parts for the Turbo Regals. One of the early aftermarket companies was Quality Engineering out of Michigan. Later, they would change their name to Advance Vehicles Concepts or AVC for short.
Two of their most popular parts they made was the drop in GNX style VDO dash cluster. It was so popular we even had two of their employees come to one of our big Reunion events that was held at the Johnsville Airbase. This was back around 1990. I can’t recall how many they installed that weekend over the 2-day period but they were kept busy both days! Their GNX kit was a huge seller for them.
The other part Quality Engineering made was the Hurst Quarter stick to replace the flimsy stock shifter. Their kit included a new top plate for the console which eliminated the ashtray. It was a nice upgrade. While several options exist today for the full gauge package I don’t believe anyone makes a drop in Hurst quarter stick kit.

CHRISTMAS CARTOONS FROM THE PAST -
Many of you recall the many Turbo Regal cartoons that over the years we had three different cartoonists do for us. Fred Boatman probably did most of the Buick cartoons for us and his work was featured years ago in various Peterson Publications including Car Craft magazine. Unfortunately, Fred passed away in the Spring of 2018.

MORE MEMORIES -
This past weekend we just read where Jack Thompson died at age 89 from complications due to Covid. In 1969 he got one of the very first Toyota franchises in the country. Around 1972 we would expand our towing business offering our services to car dealers. Prior to this we strictly did abandoned cars for the major apartment complexes in and around the suburbs.
Jack Thompson was the first dealership we would get a contract for for all their towing. This relationship would grow as did his company. He later got a BMW and Lexus franchise. He kept us quite busy for a number of years until he eventually got his own trucks. We would buy several vehicles from Jack over the years. Jack was an extremely nice man. I would run into him once in a while at the food store. It's hard to believe, but when we started towing for Jack in 1972 we charged just $8 local! Today you're lucky if the tow bill is under $100 before they cover the first mile!

We discovered that FedEx will not forward any packages that are sent to the old PO Box or to our old address in Plumsteadville. Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside or send them back to the shipper. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.
If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use FedEx. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

CORES NEEDED - URGENT REQUEST –
Here is the information on our credits for cores.
STEERING WHEEL CORES. Currently we need good 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering cores. They must be straight and not have rusted spokes. We will issue a Letter of Credit of $100 for each acceptable core. You must email me [email protected] a photo first to make sure the steering wheel is acceptable.
POWERMASTER BRAKE UNITS. Currently, we are accepting powermaster brake units. We give a $150 Letter-of-Credit for each acceptable core. If you include the turbo pedal add $10. You would receive $160 Letter-of-Credit. To avoid having your core not accepted, you MUST first email me a photo of the core you plan to send in - [email protected] - We will NOT accept any cores that have severe rust issues or have been disassembled. Core must have the
brake switch and brake bowl reservoir. Too many of the cores we have been getting are in such terrible shape they are worthless to us.
TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock turbo. They must be complete. We will issue you a $175 Letter-of-Credit for each acceptable core. We need cores now.
If you ship to us, the post office is the cheapest method. Pack the item(s) with a note with your name, address and phone number.

Good news - We now accept Classified Ads in our weekly Inner Circle emails. Over the years several customers have asked about placing an ad in our weekly Inner Circle.
Here are the options and the costs.
Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need to be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.
Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.
The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.
It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.
Our weekly Inner Circle reaches over 3,400 members every Wednesday direct to their inbox. The Inner Circle also appears every Wednesday on our website with the related photos. Your ad would be visible to both groups of readers. So, the exposure to your ad is well over 3,400 potential buyers.

One thing that has been missing all these years for the Turbo Regal owner is a nice stainless black powder-coated license plate frame. We have designed several with a unique tagline referring to some of the most collectible high-performance car models.
We have come up with the various designs shown in Photo 2.
The handsome metal black license plate frame measures 12-1/4″ x 6-1/4″, which is the standard size to hold state license plates. Frames are made from stainless steel, then powder-coated black for lasting quality.
Included with each frame is a packet of new attaching hardware, complete with black caps so the hardware doesn’t show.
Each frame comes with the decal already affixed. Most of the decals are white wording on a black background. Several decals are two colors (white and red) on a black background.
Notice the font style for the tagline “HIGH OUTPUT V6” decal matches the 3.8 sfi turbo hood emblems.
We also offer each decal separately in case you would like to apply it to any signs, a toolbox, etc.

OWNER’S MANUAL HOLDER
Usually the more expensive GM cars have a nice holder for their Owner’s Manual.
Originally Buick put all the documents in a plain clear plastic bag. Since these turbo cars didn’t come with a holder in the car, we’ve designed one.
Our black vinyl Owner’s Manual holder measures 6-3/4" x 10" and fits perfectly in your glove box.
The words “A BOOST OF BUICK PERFORMANCE” appear in silver below the flap.
There are two business card holders on the flap. You can insert your insurance company agent’s business card or your mechanic’s business card.
This holder is great for storing the Owner’s Manual, Warranty cards, insurance papers, service records, etc.
It also makes a great gift item for any car enthusiast.

BUTYL TAPE - 5/16” DIAMETER 10-FOOT ROLL -
This butyl tape is black, 5/16" diameter, and comes in a 10-foot roll.
The list of uses for this product is endless. Butyl tape has a strong adhesive and excellent sealing effect. It has very good waterproof performance. It is a "tape type" sealer used by glass shops to seal windshields and rear window glass.
It is not available in most auto stores, which is why we now carry it. Its unique feature of controlled compressibility allows easy installation and yet will not squeeze out when pressed. I have been using it for a variety of projects for many years.
We include it with several of the parts we sell, such as the LED Third Brake Light and the foam filter for the wastegate solenoid. In both cases, it is used to hold the part in place. It’s ideal to fill small holes in the trunk. Buick used it to seal the quarter windows.
If you have a section of wind noise on the weatherstrip seal to the door glass, simply put a section of butyl tape between the molding and the weatherstrip to "puff" out that section of the weatherstrip. The problem is solved. If you have T-Tops and are replacing the metal T section, it’s ideal to use this between the T metal bar and the roof area.
It’s ideal to help seal any moldings in place or lose trim.
Every owner should have a roll of butyl tape in their garage or workshop.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
Be sure to look over the Christmas Specials. Adding the 15 foot of butyl tape for a mere $10 to any Christmas special is a good deal. There is no extra charge for shipping to include the butyl tape with any of the Christmas Specials! This has proven to be a popular product since we recently introduced it. I use it frequently.
