Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 04-27-2016 -
REPORT FROM SPRING CARLISLE -
This past week was the annual Spring Carlisle event. I went on Wednesday, which is basically the setup day for vendors that come from all over the U.S. and Canada. It is a full 99 acres of virtually anything automotive, motorcycle, or truck related.
The weather Wednesday was picture perfect. I did not spot any Turbo Regals for sale nor did I see any Turbo Regal parts. I spotted one Monte Carlo in the car corral for sale. I did see several very nice unusual cars for sale. Everything from a late-model Fiat to a mid-1970s Rolls Royce could be bought. I was impressed mostly with several of the engine conversions I saw for sale. One was a Corvair that featured a Chevy V8 up front and rear wheel drive. Another was a Vega that was Chevy V8 powered and had enough exterior touches to look like an early 1970s Z28 car.
What is nice about cars like this is, if they are done right and are show quality, you can get a bargain when compared to the many hours of workmanship that goes into these conversions. Especially when done to a Corvair or Vega, which is not a common sight to find today in any condition.
In my youth, the V8 Chevy-powered Vega was one of the popular conversions. Followed later by the V8 Chevy-powered S10 truck conversions.
At my first job pumping gas at 16, my boss had an early 1960s plain-looking light green Valiant that was V8 Chevy-powered. This car had that sleeper look. At the time I was driving a $300 1949 Ford business coupe.
I was nearing the point of leaving Spring Carlisle to head home when I spotted a toy vendor that had a few Hellcat items by his chair. He had a few baseball cap-style Hellcat hats and several embroidered Hellcat polo shirts. I could tell they were high quality, so I asked him about them. He then showed me a matching cooler that had the same Hellcat embroidery on it and some new Hellcat logo key chains that had a stitched red cloth on them that said, “REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT.”
He said his friend worked the new car shows for Dodge when they introduced the Hellcat at the auto shows in the New England area. At this point I was interested. He then said that he had something else in his truck that he had not taken out yet. He had 2 different 6 foot x 3 foot Hellcat vinyl banners. He says Dodge did 4 different banners for these new car shows for the Hellcat. At this point I wanted to make a deal as I figured, based on what he was telling me, these items were not readily available or mass produced in large quantities.
The good news is he knew who I was, since his father knows me. The bad news is I was short on cash and since he did not know me personally and his father was not there, my company check would not work either. However, I was able to write a check to one of my buddies who was there as a vendor and get the cash to make the deal happen.
I made a deal for both of the Hellcat vinyl banners, the 3 Hellcat coolers, all the Hellcat key chains, several Hellcat baseball caps, and one of each size Hellcat polo shirts. He did have some real nice top-grade Hellcat folding chairs plus a few embroidered Hellcat Teddy bears that I passed on, since they seemed to be priced too high. Since returning home I have not seen any of these items on ebay that match what I bought. I called one Dodge dealer that sells the Hellcat key fobs on ebay, and he says they do not come with the “REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT” tag anymore.
These items may have been only available at the new car introduction events when the Hellcat first came out. I can’t say for sure, only that these items appear to be extremely rare.
PHOTO 1 - Shows both versions of the 6 foot x 3 foot full-color vinyl Hellcat banners that I purchased. They both look almost new. They are really nice looking. I know, if I had a Hellcat, I would be a buyer!
We will sell one of these Hellcat vinyl banners if the buyer completes the transaction before this coming Friday night, April 29th by Paypal. I plan to at least auction the remaining banner at our No Reserve Auction, providing the starting bid is met at our Open House event.
So, if you are attending our Open House and have a friend who has one of these cars, you may want to tell the owner, since he may want you to bid on it for him or her.
PHOTO 2 - The photo to left is the Hellcat cloth cooler bag with matching Hellcat cloth baseball cap-style hat. Both are very high quality. The photo to the right shows the black and tan polo short sleeve Hellcat shirt with the Hellcat metal key chain that has the Remove Before Flight tag.
See Rare Parts section for the price that buys 1 Hellcat vinyl banner (your choice), 1 Hellcat cooler, one Hellcat black baseball style cap, 1 Hellcat key chain, and 1 Hellcat polo shirt in either large, extra large, or XXL. You get a total of 5 original Hellcat promotional items.,
If you have a friend who owns a Hellcat this group of Hellcat promotional items would probably perk their interest. Be sure to tell them before Friday night, April 29th. It is like the GNX in 1987 - if someone was offering a GNX poster from GM and a Molly GNX jacket and GNX hardbound book for a few hundred bucks it would be very smart to buy them since the cars were $30,000 back when they were new. Have you priced a real GNX jacket lately?
FIRST YEAR DODGE CHALLENGER DRAG PAK CAR NUMBER 001 OWNED BY DON GARLITS -
I figure it’s only fitting since we have several Hellcat items for our No Reserve Auction, we will also include at our No Reserve Auction 2 of the suspension parts from the very first Drag Pack Challenger Dodge built in 2009. That first year they only built 100 of them. Don Garlits got the very first one.
I was at his place in Florida in 2009 about 2 weeks after he took delivery of his Drag Pak Challenger. He does a huge Mopar event on his property and I was there for ZDDPlus. I bought a wide variety of items that he signed for me that weekend. I filled my Tahoe up with Mopar items!
It’s funny, as I was buying up all these items several people came up to me as they had no idea who I was and why I was buying all these parts.
I bought the pair of front struts and rear springs from his 001 Drag Pak Challenger. I kept 1 of each for my private collection. I know these are rare, since the car only takes 2 front struts and 2 rear springs total!
I also own 3 of the original black wall tires and wheels off the same car, which I still have. They are all signed by Don Garlits. I would sell 1 if anyone is interested. Shipping would be costly due to the weight.
PHOTO 3 - This photo shows both the front strut and the rear spring from Don Garlits 2009 Drag Pak Challenger. These cars did not get VIN numbers, since they were not intended for the street. They were also about 1,000 pounds lighter than the production models. Each part has been personally signed by Don Garlits and noted it is from the 2009 first run and the first 2009 Drag Pak car. Here is a chance to own a really rare piece of history. Each will be sold at our No Reserve Auction, providing the starting bid has been met.
THE MOLLY PROTOTYPE GRAND NATIONAL - ACRYLIC SIGN -
We have made a very nice layout showing the original red Molly Grand National prototype, printed on the 1/8" thick acrylic by 17.5" by 10" size. Some lucky bidder at our Open House will get to own one that we have done special in the LED lighted brushed aluminum frame. We will have several available that are just printed in color on the 1/8th inch thick acrylic for sale for $29.95 plus shipping. We also doing another one based on a popular cartoon we had done several years ago.
What is nice about printing on acrylic, is that it makes for a nice display that will hold up, unlike a photo or cardboard display.
PHOTO 4 - Shows the Molly prototype red Grand National that will be in the lighted framed box for our No Reserve Auction. This photo shows it not in a display box. If you want one of the just printed acrylic Molly Grand National, contact our office as we have not yet put it on our website. Great display item that you can display in your garage. Unfortunately, these final printed signs are hard to photograph. The final sign looks much better.
NOTE - NO INNER CIRCLE NEXT WEEK -
Because of our Open House this weekend and the Richard Clark event next week, we won’t be sending out an Inner Circle. There just aren’t enough hours in a day. Watch for coverage of both events in our May 11th Inner Circle.
Hope to see many of you at these events.
OUR SPRING OPEN HOUSE LATEST UPDATE -
At our Open House we will have one table that will feature bargains on several items that we are discontinuing from our parts that were on our website. The discount on these items is 50% or more.
2 full tables will be strictly Buick Turbo literature for sale that some of you will want to add to your private collection. This is not to be missed, as I expect these items to go quickly since any Turbo Regal literature is extremely difficult to find today. It is probably the most Turbo Regal literature you will ever see for sale at one place.
Another table will showcase our No Reserve Auction items. Note - As long as the starting bid is met, the item sells at no reserve. Our No Reserve Auctions have become very popular at our Open House events.
Our No Reserve Auction will showcase a real set of original used GNX wheels with a starting bid of $2,700 and no reserve. We will have other items to auction as well. (See Photo 1 and Photo 2 of this issue. We are getting 1 item custom made, which some lucky bidder will win at our No Reserve Auction. We also will auction at no reserve a 1:18 scale diecast Molly prototype Grand National that is brand new in the box.
Still another table will spotlight our new products, including the new reproduction aluminum brake drums, the lighted display ideas, and also a new project one of our neighbors in our complex is working on for me. It will fit every single G-body car made and solves an important issue. I supplied the idea and he is supplying the knowledge to draw up the patterns and produce the parts to make it work.
We just tried this new part this past Saturday night as I unwrapped our Turbo-T from its winter nap. With a few tweaks on our car, it works flawlessly. This clever new product will be for sale at our Open House Saturday and at the Turbo Buick/Richard Clark event in North Carolina. Very little skill is needed to install this trick part. The projected price of this new item will be between $20 and $22.
Last, but not least, another table will have our Raffle items that have been donated by Arizona GN, Spoolfool, G-Body Parts, and others that have said they will be donating items.
The M&Ms are counted for the Open House and the TurboBuick/Richard Clark event. These 2 events have no rain date.
The M&Ms at our Open House are in a very useful item. The winner will keep the M&Ms container and will also receive another item.
With all that being said, be sure to bring your wallet!
Remember, there are lots of raffle items and auction items
GNX OWNERS OR THOSE WANTING GNX INFORMATION UPDATE -
We recently compiled a special packet on the GNX project and early GNX articles. Some information even covers the actual planning of the GNX prior to 1987. It contains over 40 pages in full color and over 40 pages in black and white… close to 100 pages total. We only did a very limited number of these and when they sell out there will be no more. It is one of the unique items we will have for sale at our Open House and the Turbo Buick/Richard Clark event. However, you can email me personally - [email protected] for more details and pricing, if want one and can’t make either event.
This is something every GNX owner will want. Those who are interested in the GNX will also want this packet. This will not be offered after the Turbo Buick/Richard Clark event. We only did a very limited number of these. Half of the copies have now been sold! If you want one you must email me before this Saturday, as we expect they will sell out at our show or the Turbo Regal/Richard Clark event.
GRAND NATIONAL OWNERS -
For the Grand National owners we recently compiled a special packet on the Grand National and it includes some articles on the T-Types as well. These articles go back to when the cars were new. Printed on the same high-quality paper as the GNX booklet. It runs over 75 pages with over 35 of them in full color. It is then spiral bound with a clear plastic cover identical to the GNX packet. Like the GNX packet we featured last week, we only did a limited number of these for our Open House and the Turbo Buick/Richard Clark event the following week.
However, if you want one, you must email me before this Saturday as we expect they will sell out at the two shows. Email me - [email protected] - for details, pricing, and ordering information. Several very rare articles are included in this packet we had made up.
PLEASE - URGENT REQUEST -
We need original 1986-1987 AC Delco mass air flow sensors. We can't continue this service for our customers without having correct cores to get redone. If you can help with these sensors, email me [email protected] - for current price or credit.
We also need original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal Turbos, so we can continue our rebuilt service for our customers.
Without these items, we CANNOT get original turbos or the TA 49 units rebuilt, and provide them to our customers. Email me - [email protected] - for current price or credit.
NEW PRODUCT IN THE WORKS UPDATE -
The company that is making our brushed aluminum frames for the lighted LED display signs has figured out how to make this new unique part that will fit every 1984-1988 G-body car, not just Turbo Regals. Part of it will be made in stainless, unlike the GM part, which is not made in stainless and is prone to rust. By making a modification version, it will work differently than the original GM does on your car.
I tried the actual production part on our Turbo T and we had to make some changes to it to make it easier to install. We will have actual kits available to sell at our Open House and at the Turbo Buick/Richard Clark event.
We anticipate this to be a very popular kit and we will be making it available to the other vendors that we sell to. It’s a modification that makes it far more useful than the original GM part.
TIME FOR A QUICK MINI CONTEST -
With the clues given above and below about the new part we will have available at our Open House can you guess what the part is? You get 1 guess. Open to all of our customers, except those that work or own a G-body related business.
Your single guess must be submitted by email to - [email protected] - before 6 pm eastern time this Friday, April 29th, 2016.
The first 2 correct answers will get one of these new parts free.
Here are the clues:
Part of it is made in stainless and part of it is made with a material that will not rust.
The projected retail price will be between $20 and $22
It will fit every single G-body car produced.
It is not a reproduction of an existing part on the G-body cars.
To the best of my knowledge, nobody has made this part.
Good luck players.
ALUMINUM BRAKE DRUMS UPDATE -
We now have the pricing on the aluminum drums. They will be specially priced at our Open House and the Turbo Buick/Richard Clark event, which will include free shipping as delivery is scheduled for late May according to A1 Cardone.
Actual production drum will be on display at both events with pricing. If you pay at the Open house or the TurboBuick/Richard Clark event, you will get the special pricing. Delivery is scheduled for late May.
PREPARING FOR OUR SPRING OPEN HOUSE -
If you are planning on attending our Spring Open House and want to buy the Spoolfool one-piece rear filler, be sure to place your order now so we have one set aside for you.
The same goes for the Pypes dual exhaust system. In either case, we will not charge you until the day of our show.
Call and speak to Christina to place your order - 215-766-1611 x 0. Do not wait until the last minute.
Remember, we are always in the market for good used Turbo Regal parts that you can “cash in” as trade value towards items you want and need.
Bring any cores, especially turbo cores, which we need.
HERE IS MORE BREAKING NEWS - SPRING OPEN HOUSE -
Remember the crown jewel of our No Reserve Auction will be a complete original used set of GNX wheels. The starting minimum bid will be under $2,700. Again, this is a no reserve auction as long as the starting bid has been met. Wheels are all original with no curb rash. The set comes with a new set of the correct 2-piece lug nuts, valve stems, and decals for the center caps. Everything you need. Also included is a copy from the page in the GNX book stating the offsets for the front and rears match the stamped offsets on these real GNX wheels. This verifies they are correct. You could have the winning bid and own them!
We will have some really neat items on display and some custom-made things for sale at our Open House. Remember, this event has no rain date. Yum Yum donuts go quickly. We will have our usual M&M contest.
Please, if you are coming, bring us any CORES you may have. We badly need good clean steering wheel cores (1986-1987), correct 1986-1987 mass air flow sensors, and stock 1986-1987 Turbo cores.
We really need these 3 items in order to keep the flow of rebuilt parts available to others. I also buy or trade for most any good Turbo Regal items that you may not need or want. Bringing them to our Open House is an excellent time to cash them in and avoid shipping costs.
Mike Bernard, who makes the Spoolfool fillers, is donating a one-piece rear filler for our raffle. This is another reason to plan to attend. We like to thank Mike for his generosity and support of many of the Buick events. The Kirban Performance raffle items donations will be sent as usual to the MOLLY Memorial Fund.
Also, I been going through my original photos and Turbo Buick literature and we will have a lot of original Grand National literature available for sale. Also, there will be some neat GNX items we had made up for sale. This is one Open House you do not want to miss. One table will be strictly Buick Turbo related literature to buy.
This is the first time our Open House and the Turbo Buick/Richard Clark event have been back to back. These are 2 springtime Buick events you do not want to miss.
OPEN HOUSE RAFFLE ITEMS -
If you have anything you like to donate to our free raffle please send it to us. We would recognize you when your item has been won. These would be awarded at our Open House.

For Sale 1987 Buick Regal Turbo-T
This 1987 Regal Turbo-T has 39,000 original miles and still has really nice original factory white paint. Interior is in like new original condition although I did have a new headliner put in last year. Options include power windows, power antenna, G80 rear end and cruise control. Everything works as it should.
Last fall I had the air conditioning upgraded to the modern 134A and it now blows ice cold. The tires have under 1000 miles and the brakes are good as well. The motor runs very strong and the transmission shifts nice and firm. The car had the wrong tailpipes on it and incorrect mufflers, but I changed it all back to factory-style exhaust last fall.
The previous owner had it for 25 years before I bought it. It's really a turn key car - buy it and enjoy it.

CARS FOR SALE -
From time to time, whenever we spot an unusual or an exceptional car or truck for sale, or one we have for sale, we will put a blurb in our weekly Inner Circle. Also, any cars that our customers have for sale will be featured here and you can see their car with photos on our website. In this category, we will run the descriptions for two-to-three weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. Any new vehicles that we add will appear first, so the oldest listing would be at the end of this section.
If any of these vehicles perk your interest, email me personally - [email protected] - for more information and photos.
1979 CHEVROLET SCOTTSDALE - FOR SALE -
I spotted a really nice 1979 Chevrolet Scottsdale pickup for sale on way to one of the junkyards I go to. It is located about 5 miles off exit 10 of Route 78 in Pennsylvania.
The truck has had 2 owners. It’s two-tone blue and white. It has very few options, V8 with factory am/fm radio, and has power steering. About 50% of the paint is original. Wheels and tires are like new. Runs out 100% quiet and very dry underneath. It’s a very solid truck that has had extremely good care over the years. Mileage stands at 134,000 and it’s PA inspected.
Good candidate to drive enjoy and restore. Price seemed reasonable to me at $4995.00. Interested? Email me - [email protected] - and I can provide you with more info and his phone number.
TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
2016 CALENDAR OF EVENTS -
KIRBAN PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS SPRING OPEN HOUSE -
Saturday, April 30rd, 2016 - 9 am - 2 pm -
NOTE - The date was changed to APRIL 30th
Once again free Yum Yum donuts and coffee will be available in the morning. Terry Shaw will be conducting a seminar on the importance of having your car appraised.
We will have several unique limited production items available for sale at this event. Also samples of our new project. Although not strictly car related, we can do car photos as well. This is a very unique format done on a special machine. In my immediate area I only know of two companies that have this machine.
We will be awarding 3 different trophies at our Spring Open House, courtesy of Russ and Nancy. One will be for Longest Distance driven in a Turbo Regal to our event. Another trophy will be awarded for the car needing the most TLC, meaning the one Turbo Regal needing the most tender loving care. Last, but not least, Kirban’s Choice Award, which will be one that I pick that I like or represents a car that I would buy.
Russ and Nancy have agreed to do the cooking. The luncheon is strictly by donation with all proceeds going to PBS, which Russ and Nancy support.
This is the only Open House we are doing this year, so you don’t want to miss it.
Most of our website products will be specially priced. We will have an array of used parts for sale, our M&M contest, and our no reserve auction. The feature item this year is a set of used original GNX wheels being offered at no reserve. They do have a starting bid price. This event has no rain date.
Ideally you could attend our Spring Open House on the 30th and then take a drive down and attend the Turbo Buick/Richard Clark event, which starts the following Wednesday.
These are 2 great Turbo events back to back.

IN CLOSING -
It’s now just a few days until our Annual Spring Open House event. I uncovered the white Turbo-T from its winter rest. The car started right up like I had it parked it yesterday. I took a blast down the road and kept my fingers crossed that the brake light would not come on, and everything was great!
The beauty about owning a white car is that it looks great even though it has not been washed in about 5 months!
Remember, order now if you want a Spoolfool rear filler and or a Pypes exhaust system!

1986-1987 Turbo Regal AC DELCO Coil Packs
We now carry ORIGINAL AC Delco coil packs. Our source for the aftermarket coil packs we used to carry that looked original has dried up.
Almost all the aftermarket brands now have a solid top instead of the 3 individual sections like the original.
The AC Delco coil packs are a little more money, compared to the aftermarket versions. We have several in stock and the price is $99.95 plus shipping.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
