Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 11-01-2017 -

CUSTOM POWER SIX CARPETED FLOOR MATS -

Over the years several companies have produced custom floor mats for the Turbo Regals. They usually feature the popular Power Six logo. I have lost count of the various colors that companies have used for the Power Six logo.

I recently acquired a mint set that is probably one of the early versions that was done.

PHOTO 1 - We show the pair of front embroidered Power Six floor mats. These are for sale in the Rare Parts section of this Inner Circle.

MORE GMP DIECAST MODELS -

Like the various Power Six logo floor mats, GMP probably has produced more of the different diecast models pertaining to the various Turbo Regals in the 1:18 and the 1:24 scale than any other company. With just a few changes they can produce all the versions based on their main costs for tooling of the actual bodies of the cars. By that I mean, once they did the popular Grand National (which is black), by making a few changes, they were also able to do the GNX.

From that they tweak the minor changes in wheels and interiors, etc., and can produce the various T-Type and Turbo-T versions. By making further mods, they created modified versions of the Turbo Regals.

Many companies (ours included) have done similar parts by making just a few changes and figuring out it will work in other applications.

PHOTO 2 - The photo to the left shows the 1:24 scale GMP Street Fighter and the double box it comes in. The photo to the right shows the GMP 1:18 scale Grand National and the cool-looking display box it comes in. Both of these diecast cars are for sale in the Rare Parts section of this Inner Circle.

THE GEORGIA 1987 GRAND NATIONAL -

A few weeks ago, we listed a real nice original 1987 Grand National hardtop that the owner wanted to sell.

It turns out that my long-time buddy Greg, who is a dealer, bought the Grand National and had it shipped by truck to his brother’s place in New Jersey. Greg now lives in California and came back to this area last week for a wedding.

They invited me to go to the Manheim Auction last Friday to witness what the Grand National would sell for at the auction. Greg, his brother Glenn, and even his 87-year-old Dad were at the auction. His Dad kept saying that since the Grand National had crank windows, it would not be that desirable! We tried to explain to him that this is not like a regular car and crank windows are extremely rare and cause fewer issues than power windows.

The Manheim Auction in Manheim, PA, is huge. Over 20 lanes and several thousand cars go thru the auction on a typical Friday. They run shuttle buses to the parking lots! At this time of the year, the big market are trucks and SUVs. Dealers are scrambling to spit and polish their vehicles at the last minute to make sure everything is ready to roll. Bidding is not only done live by dealers in the crowd, but also on the internet.

The only other older car I spotted was a 1985 or 1986 Pontiac Fiero that was going thru the auction. I did not witness what it sold for. Greg and his brother Glenn had about 6 trucks to sell. Glenn spent most of his time going around with a spray can of aerosol that basically makes the vehicle look like it’s wet. It’s kind of like the spray stuff you spray on tires. Glen is the aerosol spray specialist! A lot of tricks of the trade are used by dealers at auctions!

The Grand National was 100% original paint.

It drew a lot of interest as it rolled up to the bidding lane. When the hammer went down, the Grand National sold for almost $22 grand! This is strong money in our area of the country since it’s the Fall.

I did see one other fairly-rare car bring good money. The car was a 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP, which had the rare 6-speed manual transmission. Car appeared mint with 60,000 miles showing. This car sold for over $25 grand. The GXP was the upgraded model, similar in some respects like how the GNX is to the regular Grand National. The 6-speed made it even a rarer car.

PHOTO 3 - Here are 4 photos taken of the 1987 Grand National. The top left photo shows me standing by the car. The other photos show the car as it was coming up to the lane prior to the bids starting. All the documentation, including the original Window Sticker was laid out in the trunk for the bidders to see.

PHOTO 4 - Here are 4 more photos of the 1987 Grand National. Note the car lacks the rear window defroster option, a feature not really needed in Georgia! The one photo shows the hand crank window with the power door switch option. Greg and I had stopped at a turnpike rest stop on the way, which is where I took most of these photos.

The weather was picture perfect and it was a neat experience to see how regular car auctions are run compared to the classic car auctions. The main difference is, with classic car auctions the auctioneer pumps the bidders more, whereas at the regular auctions they seem to lack all the hype as the vehicles are more common in nature.

UPDATE ON COLLECTOR SELLING HIS COLLECTION DUE TO HEALTH ISSUES -

Currently he has 3 cars to sell.

A 1978 Corvette Anniversary coupe. It has the L82 engine and one repaint. This is a real nice 4-speed. The car has 4 brand new factory wheels and has 52,000 original miles. The price on the Corvette is $12,900.

He also has a 1994 Trans Am 25th Anniversary Firebird for sale. This car is all original with all the papers and documents and has 34,000 original miles. The price is $16,900.

I heard both cars run while I was there. He has all the records on both cars and what has been done on them over the years that he has owned them. These cars have always garaged.

While neither car is extremely valuable, both are priced to enjoy and hit the car show circuit Because of their low production, they should maintain their value.

He also has a 1967 BMW 2000 CS factory 4-speed with dual weber carburetors on it. This is a nice example of an unusual BMW coupe for $14,900.

I already have a very interested GTO restorer interested in both of the 1964 GTOs. I am currently trying to get Frank to make a Package Deal and provide proof of the documents he has associated with the two GTOs.

If any of these cars interest you, email me direct - [email protected]

UPDATE ON THE WHITE 1987 TURBO-T - FOR SALE -

The same day the Inner Circle went out last week we got a small deposit to hold the Turbo-T until the title comes back. The potential buyer already owns one of my Turbo cars that he restored years ago. He has been looking for another one to restore and has chased down others that did not measure up to the price.

In case you’re wondering, I have over 40 receipts on this car that total over $10 grand, which is more than the price of the car. I priced the Turbo-T at $9,395. If for some reason anything would change, we will update the information.

TEN-YEAR-OLD LEADS COPS ON 100 MPH CHASE -

In the news last week was an article out of the Cleveland, Ohio area where a lad of just 10 years old (for a second time) stole one of his parent’s cars and drove it up to speeds of 100 mph before wrecking the car and being caught. Fortunately, nobody got hurt during the brief blast down the interstate.

I wonder how car insurance covers something like that. I also wonder because of his age, (besides the fact he is surely grounded by his parents), what criminal punishment a 10-year-old could face? Sounds like his parents need to install a few theft devices on their cars to keep the kid from making the evening news again!

ON THE NEWSFRONT -

The December issue of Hot Rod magazine has a 2-page article on the ageless Kenny Duttweiler, who still works out of the same small shop. I visited him at over a dozen years ago at that very shop. He has been in the same shop since 1970. Kenny has never had a line of products, no catalog and no mail-order business, yet stays busy!

Years ago, he made the very popular Duttweiler intercooler neck that we used to sell besides building some impressive Turbo engines. His Regal race car was well known, running at various tracks including at Bowling Green and Englishtown, NJ back in the early days.

In the same issue is a 5-page article about the 4-door 1970 Barracuda that Dave Walden owner of ECS Automotive Concepts custom built. Dave Walden owns the company that we deal with getting all the GM door VIN decals reproduced. The car is simply incredible to see in person. Devyn and I got to see it first-hand this past July at the Chrysler event at Carlisle.

1950 CHEVROLET PICK UP - TURBO REGAL POWERED - FOR SALE -

The same seller I bought the white Turbo-T from has this unfinished project to sell. The engine is a 1987 Turbo Regal engine with a mere 15,000 miles on it. He purchased it from a wrecked 1987 Grand National. The truck has an uncut 1987 Turbo Regal 8.5 rear under it. This has a rebuilt worked 350 Turbo Transmission behind the Turbo engine. The engine has several dress-up items on it, including the value covers. All the hard work has been done. The truck has been wired for 12 volts, with custom gauges and disc front brakes. The truck has no bed. The cab has surface rust and needs finishing.

For more information and photos, email me direct - [email protected] The truck is located in central Ohio and would need to be trailered. The price is $5,495. Remember, you get a complete stock 15,000-mile Turbo Regal engine with a complete uncut 8.5 posi rear end, both of which came out of the same wrecked 1987 Grand National in 1988.

1987 GRAND NATIONAL FOR SALE -

I am representing this 1987 Grand National hardtop for sale for the owner who resides in Florida. This car is at the top of the value chain and is, without any doubt, one of the best. It has been in the same family since it was new. The original owner bought it when he was single. Soon after, with a growing family, it became evident the Grand National was not a practical car, so he sold it to his brother who I have known for probably 20 years. His brother recently passed away and that is why the car is back down in Florida.

It has been made better than new. When I say better than new, it is mainly due to the fact it has had a very high-dollar repaint applied and everything has been freshened up.

I knew the brother that passed away quite well, since he was heavily involved with GTOs and even wrote a very detailed book on GTOs that is still sold today. He also had a GTO and was a very meticulous individual. His name was Eric White. The book he wrote years ago was titled, “GTOAA of America Pontiac GTO, GT-37 Illustrated Identification Guide.”

I will give a copy of Eric’s GTO identification book to whoever buys this pristine Grand National. Eric was very well known in the GTO world at the national level. I would see him every year at the National events during the 1990s. As a matter of fact, we discussed his new book and what he needed it to say since he was using GM logos, etc.

The Grand National is now in his brother’s hand, Kirk White, in Florida. They have every single document with this car since it was new. Plus, they even have the original Window Sticker. They also have every single repair receipt. Over $12,000 was spent on the repaint and to freshening up this car.

It still smells new! A smell that no company as of yet has ever duplicated. If they did, Corvette owners would line up to buy it!

The Grand National has almost every single option. The actual mileage is less than 23,000 original miles. The car is 99% stock with the one exception being an aftermarket alarm system.

It has the stock powermaster brake system with the upgraded Cardone brake bowl. The car has used seat covers, which have protected the original seats. According to Kirk, he doesn’t believe anyone has ever sat in the back seat of this car.

This is a Kirban-quality car based in my numerous emails with Kirk and the fact I knew his brother from our mutual GTO connection for many years.

The new lowered price is $29,900. Keep in mind, receipts come with the car and the repaint totaled over $12,000. The repaint was only done because the car had such a poor paint job from the factory as many of them did.

You must subscribe to see the Rare Parts section each week. It would go directly to your inbox every Wednesday afternoon. NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1984-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
Reproduction UPPER RADIATOR INSULATORS/BUSHINGS (2)

Over time, radiator heat can cause the insulators to deteriorate.

These reproduction UPPER radiator insulators have the correct 62mm cut out for the stock 1984-1987 Turbo Regal radiators.

NOTE - You may have to stretch these slightly for various aftermarket radiators.

This is a critical part to secure the radiator under the top plate.

Another excellent replacement for any radiator or cooling system restoration.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
POWER ANTENNA UPGRADED STEEL CABLE REPAIR KIT

This is a brand new, improved, upgraded power antenna steel cable reproduction repair kit.

The plastic cable has been replaced with a steel cable. The end result is a superior cable that is not prone to break.

It will only work if the metal antenna mast is not damaged and the motor will not shut off unless it’s unplugged. If the motor works but the antenna mast does not go up and down, and the mast is not bent in any way, it means the internal plastic cable is broken or damaged due to age. Replacing it with this improved steel cable will solve the problem.

This is a new reproduction repair kit installing a steel (not plastic) internal cable, complete with installation directions. This kit is ONLY the internal cable. Your entire mast assembly MUST be intact and NOT bent. Your power antenna motor MUST still be in good working order for the power antenna to work once you install this new reproduction internal steel cable.

NOTE - We recommend you also purchase our Part #6976 - “1984-1987 Turbo Regal - Power Antenna Removal and Installation Guide” Book by Pete Serio

NOTE - Remember this is ONLY the internal steel cable to replace the plastic cable. The external metal mast and the power antenna motor on your car MUST be in good working order.

REBUILT ORIGINAL AC DELCO MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR

We are one of the very few sources to offer completely rebuilt original AC Delco mass air flow sensors for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.

New mass air flow sensors have been discontinued from AC Delco for several years.

Other available rebuilt units are rebuilt using late-model Camaro mass air flow sensors, not rebuilt from original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal cores like these.

When comparing ours to the various reproductions, it’s important to note that the original one has the “AC Delco” logo embossed on the top cover, which is visible on the car. Others may not have that feature. We have highlighted the embossed logo area with a red arrow in our first photo.

Ours are 100% correct mass air flow sensors with the proper plug, which came on the car originally.

Original parts will always be the top choice over any reproduction, especially for those wanting to keep their car original.

Sensor has the harness plug in the proper location and comes with a manufacturer’s 90-day Warranty.

NOTE - Supplies are limited, so call for availability - 215-766-1611 x 0.

7045 - 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Rebuilt Original AC DELCO Mass Air Flow Sensor - $195.

NOTE - If you send us your non-working original AC Delco mass air flow sensor(s) you will receive a Letter of Credit for $40 for each sensor. Unit must be an original AC Delco sensor. We depend on cores to continue to offer these rebuilt units.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction BLACK PLASTIC POWER ANTENNA BEZEL

This bezel will fit 1984-1987 Grand Nationals or Turbo Regals with the factory black bezel for the power antenna.

This is a reproduction of the black plastic bezel that sits at the base of the power antenna mast on the outside of the fender. Over a period of time this bezel can crack or fade.

If you have to replace the power antenna, we recommend you replace the black bezel at the same time. This part is unique to this application only.

This new reproduction bezel is made in ABS plastic with increased UV protection over the originals for a longer life. This ensures the part from dulling and cracking like the originals over a longer period of time.

Another nice finishing touch for any exterior restoration.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

I just tucked away our white Turbo-T under a car cover and blankets for its winter storage. I did not really drive it much this year.

I noticed that the front fillers, which I believe to be original, are finally starting to crumble. I will have to see if my son Darrell, can paint me a set of the GM reproductions we sell so I have them for next season. I figure I probably should do the rears as well, so everything looks like new.
