Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 10-31-2018 –
WE ARE CLOSED THIS FRIDAY – NOVEMBER 2nd –
Due to commitments, we will be short on staff and no orders will be shipped on Friday, November 2nd.
MORE GOOD NEWS -
I located the GM licensed source for the Grand National T-shirts. They have 3 different colors. A white t-shirt (like we featured last week) and black or grey T-shirts.
Next week we will have them available as we have them on order… Just in time for the upcoming Holidays.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN –
That one day of the year where those car collectors that specialize in old funeral Hearses are in big demand! Every year it seems Halloween is getting to be bigger holiday than previous years.
LOTS OF NEWS THIS WEEK –
We have several unusual Rare Parts for sale - used and NOS GM. Remember, you have to subscribe to the FREE weekly Inner Circle in order to view the Rare Parts section and see the prices. If you strictly go to our website every Wednesday you may just see a photo of a rare part, but since you are not a subscriber you don’t see the actual price for that part. If you subscribe it goes directly to your email around 3 pm every Wednesday afternoon and those members see the Rare Parts section, the price of those rare parts, and method of payment.
Subscribing is totally free! Simply contact Christina at - [email protected] and request to be put in the Inner Circle mailing. Used parts and NOS parts for these now 30-plus-year-old cars are extremely hard to find. Subscribing is the only sure way to have an equal chance on the rare or limited parts.
We have a 1987 original Grand National for sale that we just picked up last week.
We have a great Christmas gift idea – a charger power bank that is unlike like many of the cheaper ones. This charger is UL certified. Everyone on your Christmas list can probably make use of one of these. We stumbled on it quite by accident and bought the 2 the dealer had in stock. It is far superior in quality and it is not car related.
1987 BUICK GRAND NATIONAL - FOR SALE –
Just last week we did an article saying how tough it would be for me to be buying these cars today with 30 years of age on them. I had a call last week from a long-time customer who is having trouble with his knees and decided it was time to sell his beloved 1987 Grand National that he had owned for the last 18 years. He bought it from the original owner. It has been garaged or under a car port all those years that he has owned it. Car has 92,000 miles on it. He drove it a mere 5,000 miles in the last 18 years, which can be verified by the info on the title.
Car has never been offered for sale as he contacted me wanting a quick painless transaction. So, I bought his Grand National. He was even nice enough to deliver it. (So, we know it can run and drive!)
FACTORY OPTIONS: It is a 1987 Grand National with T-Tops. Car has T-Tops and is very well optioned. Car has tilt, cruise, delay wipers, am/fm with cassette and concert sound, lighted visor mirror, power trunk release, body side molding, power antenna (non-working), posi rear, and power driver’s seat.
UPGRADES & FEATURES: Fairly new BF Goodrich 235/15 tires, AC Delco battery, upper dash panel, console gauge holder with oil and water VDO gauges, A-pillar gauge holder with 30lb boost gauge, new embroidered power six front carpeted mats, I installed the 4 missing body bushings, all the braces installed rear seat, under hood, connecting, and front frame braces. Car has fairly new KYB shocks and what appears to be a Hooker dual exhaust system. Under the hood 3 small changes, blue spark wires, chrome mass air pipe with K&N cone filter, and a torque strap to keep the engine from twisting. Otherwise 100% stock, no other changes, even the screen for the intercooler and all the baffling is still intact. Has all the labels - trunk ID label, visor decal, door VIN labels, etc. are all intact.
MAJOR SELLING FEATURES: Several features set this car on a higher level than most at this point in time. Car has never been driven hard. The car has zero cracks in the pillars or the door jambs. Interior is nothing short of amazing, carpets and seats still close to new. Car has minor fading on top surfaces of the door panels. Doors shut almost like new. Spare and jack have never been out of the trunk! It’s easy to tell as nobody can get that jack back in the trunk properly. Even the original plastic horn ring is not cracked! Under the T-Tops has zero rust issues. Non-smoker car.
The factory wheels are extremely nice and have all the correct original lug nuts. Garaged kept for many years. Car is 90% stock. The interior is as close to mint as you will ever find on a 92,000-mile 30-year-old Grand National.
Car is very dry underneath. No heavy grease build up around intercooler or frame. Car has never been undercoated. Solid floors and bottom of both doors and trunk lid have zero rust issues. Car has typical rust on the bare metal suspension parts. Dynotech redid the transmission several years ago and it shifts nice and crisp.
FEATURES THAT SET THIS CAR ABOVE OTHERS IN THIS PRICE RANGE: The main feature is the car still has 100% original paint, which still shines. With that being said, it eliminates any surprises on the body plus yields extremely nice jamb areas. Car has just a few door dings and curb rash on the front header and in the chip guard area. Car has virtually very little cracking in the paint. No paint fade anywhere. Even the hood pad is still fairly nice. That is nothing short of amazing for a car with 92,000 miles and 30 years. Same owner last 18 years and was not advertised for sale. The seller approached me first about buying the car. For me to buy it you know it must have been not only a good deal, but one worthy of the investment. I have not bought any in the last several years. Over the years I have bought and sold over 325 of them which puts me at the top in selling used 1986-1987 Turbo Regals to the collector market.
MINOR AREAS OF CONCERN: The power antenna cable is broken so its unplugged and in the upright position. The seller told me the AC needs a charge which is to be expected. The driver’s header is cracked.
BONUS ITEMS: Included with the sale is a new set of our correct looking grey plug wires, the name and phone number of the person I got the car from in case you have any questions for him. Last, but not least, a 10% discount for the first 30 days on any website parts.
THE PRICE: The price is $14,900. Keep in mind we don’t sell perfection, but we sell the best Turbo Regal you will find at a specific price. According to the Old Cars Price Guider May/June 2018 edition a 1987 Grand National in the number 3 condition is valued at $18,000. Having 100% original paint which still shines is extremely important and quite rare to find today. For photos email me direct - [email protected] We may be open to a partial trade since I have a salesman license with a nearby country used car dealer.
PHOTO 1 – We show 4 photos of the body jambs and T-Top area to show visual proof the car has no rust issues in these areas and never had any paint work. My careful inspection shows the car has never had any paint work. No tape lines and no paint overspray.
PHOTO 2 – We show the interior, the one side of the entire car (note my one security cat) two incredible views show just how deep the paint shines on this Grand National. We show just one of the wheels on the Grand National. We did put on the valve stems the correct looking grey valve stem caps. The one photo shows the hood and you can clearly see the reflection of the GNX banner on the wall of my building. This photo was taken after I applied Surf City Garage Black Edge Wax. This is an amazing product that is specific for black or dark color cars.
ANOTHER 1987 GRAND NATIONAL FOR SALE -
This example has a great history. I sold it thru O'Neil Buick/GMC back in May of 2000. At that time, it had 26,000 miles on it. It features all original paint, less than 60,000 miles. Very well optioned and has the desirable factory astroroof option.
I just learned of this car so I don't have much info. Car comes with a copy of the original window sticker. Car appears to be 99% stock.
The trunk ID label (SPID) has been signed by Molly twice as the car was at both Reunion events Molly attended for us.
The price is $24,973, however email Kevin direct at - koneilbuickgmc.com for more information and a special price for any of our customers. Here is a link to this car on their website - https://www.oneilbuickgmc.com/VehicleSearchResults?searchQuery=1987
We actually owned this car twice - first in May of 2000 when I got it from the original owner with 26,000 miles on it. The last owner bought it again from us and Mike O’Neil back in 2005 when it had about 55,000 actual miles. Car has always been owned by collectors.
Remember, as a customer of ours, you would get a special price on this original 1987 Grand National.
THE ART OF DETAILING –
Over the years, I have gotten pretty good at detailing cars. You figure I have detailed over 325 Turbo Regals, and more recently I end up detailing many of the cars we win at the bid lots for one local country used car dealership.
I’m sure most of you have a variety of detailing products you favor. I have found one product line that I am convinced really outperforms some of my earlier choices. It just so happens one of their products worked out perfectly with the Grand National as they have a wax specific for black cars. All their products have a nice fragrance as well and are extremely easy to apply.
It was maybe 6 years ago I found their products at a local Pep Buys store. What caught my eye was their plastic sign which featured a 1969 GTO Judge and a late-1950s Corvette. I am a collector of unique signs and have been for years. I contacted the company located in California. Somehow, I was put in touch with the owner’s wife and she sent me one of the signs free! I was impressed.
There are 4 of their products I use regularly and one I used for the first time on the Grand National, since it was designed for dark or black vehicles. The results are nothing short of outstanding. The photos I posted earlier do not do it justice. The wax is very easy to use, no hard rubbing and comes right off. It leaves the surface super smooth.
They have two products to do the black tires. One is for making the black on the tires last several months as opposed to a short time frame. I use both of them frequently, not only to do tires but all the weatherstripping and in the door jamb areas as it works great in those areas as well.
Unfortunately, in my immediate area the products are only available in Pep Boys. Check with your local favorite auto store or if that fails, try ebay or Amazon. Even if you are satisfied with your current product line, give Surf City Garage a try. It says on every container, if you are not satisfied, to call him.
The 4 basic Surf City Garage products that I use regularly are: Barrier Reef Carnuba Wax for light color cars, Black Edge Wax for dark or black cars, Beyond Black Tire Pro Dressing, and Ultra-Last High Gloss Tire Dressing. NOTE - I use high gloss tire dressing on my personal cars for the lasting gloss look on the tires.
Surf City Garage has other products, which I use as needed, but these are the main 4 that I buy and use regularly. The claim on their products is it is, “The Official Detailing Products of the American Muscle Car Collection.” All the Surf City Garage products I show below are made in the USA.
The Beyond Black Tire Pro Dressing is in a 24-ounce bottle and the other products I show are all in a 16-ounce bottle. Tim Miller, the founder, has a statement on all the products that states “When used as directed, if this product isn’t the best you’re ever tried, give me a call and I’ll personally buy it back.”
See some of the Photos 2 as well as the Photos in #3.
PHOTO 3 – The photo to the top left shows the passenger rear quarter panel of the 1987 Grand National after I applied the Surf City Garage Black Edge Wax designed for black cars. One quick coat produced a shine so deep that you can see not only my Tahoe (which is maybe 4 feet away) but the partial front end of one of my other cars, as well as the white garage door that is 40 feet away! The entire Grand National shines equally as well. There are no weak areas in the paint or fading issues! The car only shows a few minor areas where the paint is cracked. The top right photo shows a closeup of one of the tires on one of my cars after I applied the Surf City Garage Ultra Last High Gloss Tire Dressing. A product that lasts several months!
The bottom left photo shows the popular Surf City Garage products that I use. Several of which I have been using for years. The bottom right photo shows the Surf City Garage display sign the owner’s wife sent me several years ago that hangs in my office at home. The sign measures about 20 inches wide by 30 inches high.
I highly recommend you give Surf City Garage products a try. I realize products the automotive detailing market is a crowded field, but I am more than pleased with Surf City Garage product line.
HERE IS A GREAT GIFT IDEA FOR CHRISTMAS –
I recently discovered a product at a GMC dealership gift shop. Many GMC dealerships do not have much of a gift shop if they have one at all. While you have many cheaper choices for a portable power bank to charge tablets, smart phones, etc., most are cheap looking plastic ones. The real concern is most that are not UL certified. Being electrical, UL certification is critical. UL certification reduces the risk of fire or explosions related to lithium batteries. Almost anything electrical you buy today carries the UL certification. To have peace of mind, the UL certification is critical for an electrical product to have. I know GM would not offer anything electrical unless it has the UL certification. I know this for sure as a buddy of mine was working on an electrical project and needed GM approval. He was told his product would require a UL certification in order for GM to approve it.
The power bank we offer has that critical UL certification and also looks very elegant - two features many of the cheap ones lack. It is compact in size 2- ¾ inches wide by 3 inches high by only ¾ inches thick. The power bank has a metal outer shell with chrome edges and a grey textured finish front and back. On the front in small print is the word “Denali.” It is GM licensed. The supplier to GM has a limited number of these on hand. Four small lights on the front show you see how much power is available. Capacity is 4000mAh, Input DC 5V/1000mA, output DC 5v/100mA.
It will charge a typical smart phone 2-3 times before needing a charge. The power bank recharges using a USB port.
This certified GM licensed power bank makes a great gift for a spouse or a friend. It is far superior then the plastic ones you find at most stores. Plus, it has the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) certification meaning it has passed all the proper tests required to obtain that certification.
PHOTO 4 – The photo to the left shows the actual Power Bank, a typical smart phone and my personal Nokia Flip phone. This gives you an idea as to the actual size. The photo to the right shows the actual elegant style power bank with the charging cord that comes with it. The power bank has an in and out port to charge various products and to recharge the power bank.
Our plan is to offer this elegant UL certified power bank up to Christmas only. This gives you an opportunity to buy a unique gift for that someone, that not only looks elegant and is UL certified, but probably nobody has ever seen before.
PRICING – The price for one GM licensed power bank UL certified is $41.95, which includes shipping to the basic 48 states by mail. Want to buy more than 1? Add $36 for each additional charger with no additional shipping costs. NOTE - PA residents add 6% sales tax to total. Buy with confidence. To order this power bank call our office direct - 215-766-1611X0 - ask for Christina. Because the supplier has a limited inventory, we have no plans to add to our product line. Makes a unique gift that you can feel confident buying since it has the UL certification. I plan to use several as Christmas gifts. We already have several in stock for immediate delivery with more on order.
UPDATE ON VINTAGE GM LICENSED GRAND NATIONAL T-SHIRT
As expected, the 4 we had last week with the GM detail kits sold out within a few hours. I’ve been in contact with the GM licensed company to see about being able to buy them wholesale to market to our customers. I should know something shortly. Turns out they made that shirt in 3 other colors white, black, and grey with the Grand National logo on it.
Problem is many of the GM licensed Buick companies have not caught on to where the real market for Buick merchandise should be focus and that is with the Grand National Turbo Regal and not newer Buick items.
Pick up any Summit catalog and virtually any item for your garage can be bought for the Camaro, Corvette, etc. Same goes for the Ford Mustang, and the popular Mopar models. Buick is virtually neglected.
COMING SOON OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SPECIALS –
Currently we are working on putting together our annual group of Christmas Specials. Hopefully these will be featured in next week’s Inner Circle. Many of the items that we will feature will be related to each other and are popular sellers.
TURBO ENGINE DESCRIPTION MANUAL UPDATE –
In 10-17-2018 Inner Circle, we showed 4 pages from the 1987 Turbo Regal Engine Description Manual. I had gotten these sheets years ago from a source at Buick who helped me with information for my book. I just went through all my files and I found 50 different pages from this 1987 Turbo Engine Description Manual.
I have had several requests for copies so I had a number of copies made. Pages are in the correct numbered order and spiral bound for easy reading. The price is just $22.95, which includes shipping by mail. If this interests you, email me direct - [email protected] I only plan to run these once. Paypal payment is preferred.
One thing this Turbo Engine Description Manual does show you is the original part numbers for the attaching hardware and brackets etc. We still have a few copies available. You must email me direct for this booklet.
UPDATE ON 1984 MONTE CARLO SS - FOR SALE –
We just got word that the 1984 Monte Carlo SS we advertised has been sold.
UPDATE ON HO SCALE TURBO REGAL SLOT CAR –
My source that I purchased mien from at Fall Carlisle has had no luck finding any more. Autoworld currently has no plans to run them again. I suggest you try ebay as once in a while they do pop up there for sale.
1966 GTO ACRYLIC PICTURE FOR SALE -
We also have on a piece of acrylic a picture of a 1966 GTO. I bought this several years ago at Carlisle. It measures approximately 15” by 20”. It is based on the box cover of the 1966 GTO slot car. That slot car has a value today of about $500 if you got one unbuilt in the original box. (I have one in my private collection). Either item makes for a nice unique gift.
See Photo 2 in 10-03-2018 Inner Circle. Contact our office if you would like to order – 215-766-1611 x 0. This is a NEW LOWER PRICE $29.95 and $12 shipping.
REMEMBER THE VIDEO PROFILE THAT WAS DONE LAST YEAR? –
Steve, the producer of that video, is now producing an automotive radio show in the Philadelphia market and is currently looking for sponsorship. Sponsors will receive commercial air time during the program as well as web and video presence. Because it’s the inaugural season of the show, rates are low compared to standard radio rates.
Business owners, particularly those in the Philadelphia region who are looking for a new way to advertise, should contact Steve at - [email protected] and check out the website at -www.carsmartsradio.com
They are slated to begin broadcasting at 11am for one hour on 610ESPN radio. That Saturday slot will be the time slot for at least until May, with a few preemptions for football and basketball (Villanova).
The radio station kept the rates the same for Steve even though we’re now going to the larger radio station. This is very exciting!

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING –
If you have a friend seeking a nice original 1987 Grand National, be sure to tell them about the one we just got. We do have photos available. Remember, buying one from us eliminates a lot of risks on buying a 30-year-old Turbo Regal. We certainly have the background in that area!
