Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 10-25-2017 -
MINI CONTEST WINNER -
The correct answer to our mini contest is a 1980 Pontiac Phoenix. The Chevette was the most popular wrong answer.
I also got the Owner’s Manual from the Phoenix to verify the year. We are awarding Rich Mukalian the prize as his only guess was close, only missing the year by one. His guess was 1981 Pontiac Phoenix.
Thanks to all that participated.
When I think of the word Phoenix, the movie “The Flight of the Phoenix” comes to mind. Released in 1965, James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Peter Finch, George Kennedy, and Ernest Borgnine, were the big stars in the movie. It’s a great movie, if you have never seen it. The movie is based on a cargo plane that crashes in the Sahara Desert.
COLLECTIBLE CAR JACKETS -
I recently acquired a GTO Judge jacket. Although this is a reproduction, it is exact. Even the manufacturer label inside the collar has been reproduced. This first reproduction GTO Judge jacket, from what I understand, was made in limited quantities about 10 years ago. I’ve been told at the time they sold for about $100 each. Since then other reproductions have been produced that may or may not be exactly like the originals. Again, this is what I have been able to find out since acquiring this brand new, size large, GTO Judge jacket last week.
The Judge jacket highlighted the popular GTO Judge, which was produced in limited quantities for 3 years. The Judge was the high-point model for the GTO. Just like the GNX was the high- point model for the Turbo Regals.
GTO Judges bring serious money today among collectors. Back in the day, I bought and sold 3 of them. I had a 1969 GTO Judge and I had 2 of the 1970 models. The one 1970 model was dark green with 100% original paint, with less than 60,000 actual miles. I sold it for about $4,000 in the 1980s. That car appears on the GTO poster that was produced years ago. I have no idea where that GTO Judge is today.
Being an avid Hurst collector, I also have a mint Hurst jacket. Like the GTO Judge jacket, it is a summer jacket made from similar material. This jacket is original. I have no exact idea of its value today, as I have not seen one for sale in recent years.
Last, but not least, is the car jacket all my readers are familiar with - the Molly Designs GNX jacket. We all know the history of these unique jackets.
I remember years ago buying all the remaining GNX jackets from Molly. Many of them were size small. I can’t even recall what I sold them for at the time.
The GNX jacket would be costly to reproduce exact today because it would require a license agreement not only with GM, but also with Molly Designs in order to put that label inside the collar. That would make it to be exactly like the original.
In recent years, GNX jackets have popped up on ebay, some for as much as $2,000. I imagine to a GNX owner who does not have a GNX jacket, he may step up and pay $2,000 to complete their collection and value of his car.
Perhaps one of my readers can recall in which Grand News issue we listed the GNX jackets that we sold and at what price?
We are selling the GTO Judge jacket. It is listed for sale under Rare Parts. Perhaps you know a GTO Judge owner that is looking for one of these early reproductions of the GTO Judge jacket. I am sure originals bring big money.
PHOTO 1 - The top left shows this rare first reproduction GTO Judge jacket that is exact to the original, including the manufacturer label. The top right photo shows the actual Pontiac ad promoting the GTO Judge and the Judge jacket can be seen. The bottom left photo shows the brand new Hurst jacket that is part of my Hurst collection. The bottom right photo shows my worn-looking original GNX Molly Design jacket.
I can remember years ago I gave a real GNX jacket to my sister as a gift. One day, as she was standing at her kid’s bus stop with her kids, the bus driver blurted out, “Where did you get that GNX jacket?” Turns out the bus driver owned a Grand National and was a customer of mine. He had no idea she was my sister living in this small northeastern town in Pennsylvania!
COLLECTOR SELLING HIS COLLECTION DUE TO HEALTH ISSUES -
Last week I finally got over to see my friend’s collection of cars and parts that he is selling due to health issues. He has been involved specifically with the 1964 GTO for well over 30 years. I have known him for almost that long!
Two cars that he is not ready to sell yet are a 1961 Corvette and a gorgeous black-on-black 3- speed stick 1956 T-bird with the port hole hardtop. That T-Bird is #1 quality.
What he does want to sell is his 1978 Corvette Anniversary coupe. It has the L82 engine and one repaint. This is a real nice 4-speed. The car has 4 brand new factory wheels and has 52,000 original miles. The price on the Corvette is $12,900.
He also has a 1994 Trans Am 25th Anniversary Firebird for sale. This car is all original with all the papers and documents and has 34,000 original miles. The price is $16,900.
I heard both cars run while I was there. He has all the records on both cars and what has been done on them over the years that he has owned them. These cars have always garaged.
While neither car is extremely valuable, both are priced to enjoy and hit the car show circuit Because of their low production, they should maintain their value.
He also has a 1967 BMW 2000 CS factory 4-speed with dual weber carburetors on it. This is a nice example of an unusual BMW coupe for $14,900.
For GTO collectors, he has a 1964 GTO hardtop 4-speed, tri-power former race car. It has just 30,000 original miles on the body. All the paint is original, except for the trunk lid. The GTO is black on black. The car has manual steering and manual brakes. This was called the “Tin Indian” and the lettering is still on the one door. He has owned this car since 1978. The price tag is $42,000. The car does not have the original engine.
He also has another 1964 GTO convertible, all in pieces. The body and frame have all been restored, but it needs to be assembled.
PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows the back end of the 1978 L82 Anniversary Corvette. The top right photo shows the engine of the 1978 Corvette. The bottom left photo shows the back end of the 1994 Anniversary Trans Am. The bottom right photo shows the engine compartment of the 1994 Anniversary Trans Am.
PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows the front end of the 25th Anniversary Trans Am. The top right photo shows the Trans Am documentation that goes with the car. The bottom left photo shows the back view of the 1967 BMW 2000 CS model alongside the unfinished 1964 GTO convertible. The bottom right shows the back view of the 30,000-mile 1964 GTO hardtop.
I am going back to his house later this week to take more photos. It was a lot to take in because of the various buildings and all the parts he has as well. If any of these cars interest you, email me direct - [email protected]
A BUSY WEEK FOR US -
We have really been busy this week. Besides going over to see my friend’s car collection that he plans to sell, we have added a new reproduction part to our system. We now have the reproduction upper radiator insulators/bushings available, part #7811.
Here is a link to this part on our website.
We also received some good news from a company we have been working with that has secured a GM license to produce banners for us covering the Turbo Regal years.
Closing out the week, I just covered over 900 miles driving to central Ohio and back to buy a 1987 Turbo-T from one of our customers.
While in Ohio I met Pete Serio for dinner, since it was my turn to buy. Pete showed up at the usual Olive Garden in Columbus on time!
On my way back with the Turbo-T, I stopped at a junkyard and removed 3 brake pedals from G-body cars in less than 30 minutes. Of course, several junkyard customers saw the car on the trailer and thought it might be getting junked and wanted to buy the car!
WHITE 1987 TURBO-T - FOR SALE -
The other week I got a call from a customer of ours that informed me he was going to sell his Turbo-T that he bought from the original California owner in 2006. At the time, my customer lived in California and his job required him to move to central Ohio last year. This 2-owner Turbo-T was in California since new until last year. The car has 90% original paint, and has only had paint work on one quarter panel due to a parking lot dent prior to 2006.
The car is a hardtop, white with the desirable blackout package. It has a burgundy interior. I have not added up the receipts, but I know they total several thousand dollars. The buyer will get copies of all the receipts. The last owner did all the labor work on his own, which would add even more to the costs. For example, he bought the window rattle kits and installed them, so both door windows pass the dollar bill test. Matter of fact, the roof has zero cracks in it. Car has the front braces and rear seat braces installed.
The car is a non-posi car and has never been raced or beat. The engine is 100% stock. I mean all stock - oil fill tube, no bypass kit, and even the factory air box. It does have the upgraded intercooler hoses, a chrome turbo shield, and inlet pipe. The motor is clean and dry underneath. Turbo only has 25,000 miles on it as he switched it from a 15,000-mile engine when he got the car.
I have the Broadcast Sheet from the door, laminated copies of the reproduction Window Sticker, Carfax proving it is a California car, and the original 5 glove box booklets. The never used spare and jack are included.
Body is super straight, no dents. Paint is shot, faded and has rust on the body in some areas.
The floors are still white underneath. You can probably polish the aluminum bumper supports, they are that nice. If the bumpers on my white Turbo-T are a 9, these bumpers are a strong 8.
If you redid the seats, the interior would rate an 8+. Headliner is perfect, as are the visors, etc. The car is well optioned; tilt, cruise, delay wipers, lighted visor mirror, concert sound, power trunk, power antenna it even works, aluminum brake drums, non posi, aluminum bumper supports, analog dash, and aftermarket body side molding. The last owner installed a $600 radio with blue tooth, amp and woofer. He did not cut one single wire to do the install!
Next week I will list all the upgrades/repairs he has done to the car. I also have probably 90% of the records to prove the upgrades/repairs he has done, such as new carpets, green stripe injectors, Bilstein shocks, new BF Goodrich tires, just to name some of the bigger items. Car also has new GM front fillers, and new rear fiberglass fillers.
The car will make a nice winter project for someone or you can simply enjoy it as it is. I could scuff the rust areas of the paint and spray bomb it, which would make for great photos, but I rather be honest about the car. Car has no odors and has never been smoked in.
The car has 115,000 miles on it. The second owner bought it in 2006 when it had 102,000 miles on it. So, you can see, the last owner hardly drove the car. He had it trucked last year from his home in California to central Ohio for his new job location.
I have not yet worked out all the numbers and costs to get the car here in PA. All I can say at this point is the price will be under $9,995.
My theory has always been that we don’t sell perfection, but rather the best car for the money. You would be hard pressed to find a better deal for the money. This is only the second Turbo Regal I have bought for resell in the last 3 years. The one before this was the GNX from the 80-year-old woman that lives near me.
What makes this a great value, is the fact it was a California car from brand new - 1987 until 2015. White with the blackout option is very desirable. The car comes with a lot of paperwork to prove all the facts I have stated here. Do the paint work and redo the seats, and you have a nice original 1987 Turbo-T. If you have a friend looking for a restorable original 1987 Turbo-T, give them this info.
Also, as a bonus the buyer of this car gets the Kirban 10/45 deal. The 10 is 10% discount on any of our website parts. The 45 is for 45 days, the length of time to make those purchases.
PHOTO 4 - We show 4 various photos of this white 1987 Turbo-T taken at the seller’s house when I picked up the car. This is exactly as I purchased the car last Saturday morning.
BREAKING NEWS - FATS DOMINO DIED -
Just had a friend of mine call me this morning because he heard that Fats Domino has passed at age 89. He was one of the iconic original rock 'n roll artists that my wife and I really liked. We have seen him several times in concerts years ago.
His closing theme song was something to see. He would stand up and literally push the baby grand piano across the floor with his stomach. Check it out on You Tube.
Chuck Berry and now Fats Domino are both gone. This just leaves Jerry Lee Lewis, from the 3 that make quite an impression on the early rock 'n roll scene.

1950 CHEVROLET PICK UP - TURBO REGAL POWERED - FOR SALE -
The same seller I bought the white Turbo-T from has this unfinished project to sell. The engine is a 1987 Turbo Regal engine with a mere 15,000 miles on it. He purchased it from a wrecked 1987 Grand National. The truck has an uncut 1987 Turbo Regal 8.5 rear under it. The engine has several dress-up items on it, including the value covers. All the hard work has been done. The truck has been wired for 12 volts, with custom gauges and disc front brakes. The truck has no bed. The cab has surface rust and needs finishing.
For more information and photos, email me direct - [email protected] The truck is located in central Ohio and would need to be trailered. The price is $5,495. Remember, you get a complete stock 15,000-mile Turbo Regal engine with a complete uncut 8.5 posi rear end, both of which came out of the same wrecked 1987 Grand National in 1988.
1987 GRAND NATIONAL FOR SALE -
I am representing this 1987 Grand National hardtop for sale for the owner who resides in Florida. This car is at the top of the value chain and is, without any doubt, one of the best. It has been in the same family since it was new. The original owner bought it when he was single. Soon after, with a growing family, it became evident the Grand National was not a practical car, so he sold it to his brother who I have known for probably 20 years. His brother recently passed away and that is why the car is back down in Florida.
It has been made better than new. When I say better than new, it is mainly due to the fact it has had a very high-dollar repaint applied and everything has been freshened up.
I knew the brother that passed away quite well, since he was heavily involved with GTOs and even wrote a very detailed book on GTOs that is still sold today. He also had a GTO and was a very meticulous individual. His name was Eric White. The book he wrote years ago was titled, “GTOAA of America Pontiac GTO, GT-37 Illustrated Identification Guide.”
I will give a copy of Eric’s GTO identification book to whoever buys this pristine Grand National. Eric was very well known in the GTO world at the national level. I would see him every year at the National events during the 1990s. As a matter of fact, we discussed his new book and what he needed it to say since he was using GM logos, etc.
The Grand National is now in his brother’s hand, Kirk White, in Florida. They have every single document with this car since it was new. Plus, they even have the original Window Sticker. They also have every single repair receipt. Over $12,000 was spent on the repaint and to freshening up this car.
It still smells new! A smell that no company as of yet has ever duplicated. If they did, Corvette owners would line up to buy it!
The Grand National has almost every single option. The actual mileage is less than 23,000 original miles. The car is 99% stock with the one exception being an aftermarket alarm system.
It has the stock powermaster brake system with the upgraded Cardone brake bowl. The car has used seat covers, which have protected the original seats. According to Kirk, he doesn’t believe anyone has ever sat in the back seat of this car.
This is a Kirban-quality car based in my numerous emails with Kirk and the fact I knew his brother from our mutual GTO connection for many years.
The new lowered price is $29,900. Keep in mind, receipts come with the car and the repaint totaled over $12,000. The repaint was only done because the car had such a poor paint job from the factory as many of them did.
NOTE - IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO SEE THE RARE PARTS SECTION -
If you are not able to see the Rare Parts section at the end of this Inner Circle, it is because you are not an Inner Circle member, but instead are reading this on the website. You must subscribe to see the Rare Parts section each week. It would go directly to your inbox every Wednesday afternoon. It is FREE, probably one reason why nobody complains about what I write about. Simply email - [email protected] - to get on our weekly Inner Circle email.

TIP FROM KIRBAN -
If you have a power antenna, be sure you wipe it down periodically with a lightweight oil and remove any dirt. It’s no fun to replace the power antenna once the internal cable breaks.

POWER ANTENNA UPGRADED STEEL CABLE REPAIR KIT
This is a brand new, improved, upgraded power antenna steel cable reproduction repair kit.
The plastic cable has been replaced with a steel cable. The end result is a superior cable that is not prone to break.
It will only work if the metal antenna mast is not damaged and the motor will not shut off unless it’s unplugged. If the motor works but the antenna mast does not go up and down, and the mast is not bent in any way, it means the internal plastic cable is broken or damaged due to age. Replacing it with this improved steel cable will solve the problem.
This is a new reproduction repair kit installing a steel (not plastic) internal cable, complete with installation directions. This kit is ONLY the internal cable. Your entire mast assembly MUST be intact and NOT bent. Your power antenna motor MUST still be in good working order for the power antenna to work once you install this new reproduction internal steel cable.
NOTE - We recommend you also purchase our Part #6976 - “1984-1987 Turbo Regal - Power Antenna Removal and Installation Guide” Book by Pete Serio
NOTE - Remember this is ONLY the internal steel cable to replace the plastic cable. The external metal mast and the power antenna motor on your car MUST be in good working order.

REBUILT ORIGINAL AC DELCO MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR
We are one of the very few sources to offer completely rebuilt original AC Delco mass air flow sensors for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.
New mass air flow sensors have been discontinued from AC Delco for several years.
Other available rebuilt units are rebuilt using late-model Camaro mass air flow sensors, not rebuilt from original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal cores like these.
When comparing ours to the various reproductions, it’s important to note that the original one has the “AC Delco” logo embossed on the top cover, which is visible on the car. Others may not have that feature. We have highlighted the embossed logo area with a red arrow in our first photo.
Ours are 100% correct mass air flow sensors with the proper plug, which came on the car originally.
Original parts will always be the top choice over any reproduction, especially for those wanting to keep their car original.
Sensor has the harness plug in the proper location and comes with a manufacturer’s 90-day Warranty.
NOTE - Supplies are limited, so call for availability - 215-766-1611 x 0.

Reproduction BLACK PLASTIC POWER ANTENNA BEZEL
This bezel will fit 1984-1987 Grand Nationals or Turbo Regals with the factory black bezel for the power antenna.
This is a reproduction of the black plastic bezel that sits at the base of the power antenna mast on the outside of the fender. Over a period of time this bezel can crack or fade.
If you have to replace the power antenna, we recommend you replace the black bezel at the same time. This part is unique to this application only.
This new reproduction bezel is made in ABS plastic with increased UV protection over the originals for a longer life. This ensures the part from dulling and cracking like the originals over a longer period of time.
Another nice finishing touch for any exterior restoration.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -
More details next week on the 1987 Turbo-T we just acquired that is for sale.
