UPDATE ON OUR PERSONAL WHITE 1987 -

The potential buyer is flying in this week to “eyeball” our Turbo-T and once he approves he will arrange transportation for the car. Watch for updates.

MORE CELL PHONE UPDATES AS A CAR OPTION -

We did hear from one of our Florida customers who owns a 1987 Turbo-T Limited. The previous owner of his car did have a cell phone installed and he tells me the bracket is still on the floor and the antenna is still on the roof area. This could have been factory or aftermarket.

I found even earlier information pertaining to a cellular telephone for the Buicks in a 1985 Buick Dealer Album. This info is in the revised 7/84 update. It states cellular service is only available in selected areas and uses components from two different sources. It does show a picture of one cell phone that appears to mount on a front bench seat format.

PHOTO 1 - To the left we show the actual page from a 1985 Buick Dealer Album (Revised 7/84 update.) The basic cell phone can be seen in the top right area of the page with a small illustration in the center of the page. This marked the beginning of what we all take for granted, today’s cell phones.

The photo to the right shows my parents, original Princess phone that they had in their house many years ago. We had two phone numbers, which you could trigger from a small switch on the phone. This phone replaced the square-style house phone that many of us older people remember, first with a dial you spun. Later the dial format was replaced with the push button format. I also own a complete pay phone that still is loaded with coins! If anyone has a key, I would be very interested in borrowing it!

THE DIFFERENCE IN GM POWERMASTER BRAKE RESERVOIRS -

It is possible to have any of 3 different brake reservoirs on your powermaster brake unit, unless yours is 100% original. From what I understand, GM used a narrow one in the 1985 Turbo Regal. They used a slanted brake reservoir version in the station wagons. In the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal models they used a tall wider brake reservoir. The station wagon and the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals used the same plastic lid and gasket.

What some of you may not realize is that black plastic lid and gasket from the 1986-1987 versions, from what I have determined, is a one-of-a-kind and only found on the powermaster brake units. Trust me, I have seen a lot of cars in junkyards and I have never found another GM car that used that reservoir size cap.

Over the years, we have sold a number of used reservoir caps to owners that had a leak issue or had a cracked lid.

PHOTO 2 - This is a display we had made years ago that shows all 3 of the possible powermaster brake reservoirs that could be on a powermaster brake unit. The far left is the narrow 1985 reservoir. In the center is the slanted station wagon version and on the far right is the correct 1986-1987 Turbo Regal brake reservoir. I don’t claim to be an expert on powermaster brake units, but it appears all these versions work fine on a Turbo Regal. However, all the rebuilt Cardone units we sell do have the correct 1986-1987 reservoir on it. I think that over the last 10 years we have sold more powermaster brake units than all the other Turbo Regal sources combined.

MORE POWERMASTER BRAKE INFORMATION -

Besides the display shown in Photo 2, we also had a display made showing the 2 different GM brake accumulator bowls and the 2 different brake switches. As many of you know, GE made the brake switches and the black switch had a recall in 1987 due to issues of leakage.

The original brake bowl that would have come on your 1986-1987 Turbo Regal when it was brand new is the solid black brake accumulator bowl that lacks the outward nut on the back end and does not have the yellow wording.

The one with the nut on the back end and the yellow wording is the most common one you see today, besides the aftermarket one Cardone had made about 10-12 years ago. It was our company that pressured Cardone into getting it reproduced. Somewhere out there is a WE4 with the very first Cardone brake accumulator bowl on the powermaster. The Cardone brake bowl is about 15% larger with the nut on the internal side.

PHOTO 3 - This display shows the original brake accumulator bowl on the left and the later GM style brake accumulator bowl on the right. Below the brake accumulator bowls are the original black brake switch and the later grey brake switch (which is still available today.)

I am not an expert on powermaster brake systems, but part of the problems with the brake units is due to dirty brake fluid and having a rusty steel brake proportioning valve.

GM POWERMASTER BRAKE BOOKLETS -

Years ago, I would buy almost any GM booklet I could find that dealt with the Turbo Regals. I knew I would need these factory booklets to get my facts straight. I have two different GM booklets that pertain to the powermaster brake system.

PHOTO 4 - The Powermaster Brake System booklet on the left is the one that GM dealers used to train their mechanics from the description on the inside cover. It explains how to check each part of the powermaster brake system. The photo to the right is the Know-How Powermaster Brake System - Operation and Diagnosis booklet. It is basically the same booklet with a few more pages and photos than in the other Powermaster booklet. Judging from the photos in both booklets, this was before the recall on the black brake switch since both show the original solid black brake bowl. These booklets are extremely hard to find today. I would say, based on the number of phone calls we get on any given day, questions on the powermaster are probably the number one issue that we get.

UPDATE ON ANOTHER CLEVER NEW PRODUCT COMING SHORTLY -

My friend, who has a shop directly across from us, has made a clever product that we plan to market for him. This product works on any car as a clever form of protection when storing your car or truck. No other company makes this exact same product that can protect your car when it is stored. We recently tried his prototype and he is making a few changes on it so it will be better than his prototype. Watch for updates shortly. It’s a pretty cool product that serves a useful function.

UPDATE TWO COLLECTIBLE VEHICLES FOR SALE -

Currently we have two buyers, both want to buy both vehicles. The Harley truck has less than 2,000 miles on it and the Firebird Formula has just under 3,000 miles on it. I hope to see the Firebird Formula this week in person and take photos. The Harley truck runs and drives and the plan is to get it to my shop. If either deal falls through, we will let our readers know.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU -

About three weeks ago, I met with a person that has developed a very interesting product that has been on the market for a while. He already has two companies in two different fields of operation, both of which are the biggest in the field using his product exclusively. This is quite an accomplishment. We already have samples of this product on hand.

We are working out the details so we can be a distributor for this local company. This product is superior to all the competition with no downsides! If you work or own any new or used car dealership, clean out houses for estate sales, or work or own an automotive detail business, email me direct - [email protected] -for more details as they become available.

CUSTOM-MADE GM LICENSED VINYL BANNERS UPDATE-

Finally, some progress to report, The GNX banner they submitted for GM approval has been approved. They still have to get approval for the Grand National and Buick Motorsports banners. All designs we submitted to the company that has the GM license for Buick/Oldsmobile/Pontiac. We hope to have all of these banners on display at our Spring Open House in April. I should have a GNX banner shortly with pricing.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1985-1987 Buick GRAND NATIONAL -
ONE-PIECE BUCKET SEAT COVER

Because the original grey and black pallex Grand National seat material is so costly, here is a simple and inexpensive method to protect it.

We offer a one-piece form-fitting seat cover for the front bucket seat. No tools are required and it’s easy to clean. You simply slide it over the seat. It can be removed easily.

This seat cover has the same two-color color (black and grey) design, so it looks like it was made specifically for the Grand National.

The durable and breathable material is double nylon mesh cloth with 2mm thick sponge in the middle. The spandex back provides a universal fit that conforms to the Grand National’s bucket seat.

It’s an inexpensive investment to protect your Grand National bucket seats from damage.
To purchase one cover, order #7821. To order two covers, order #7822.

Another excellent way to protect the seats.

7821 - 1985-1987 Buick Grand National - One-piece Bucket Seat Cover - $18.95

7822 - 1985-1987 Buick Grand National -

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

REMEMBER - On all the above letter parts, the price shown is the total price you pay. The more letter items you buy, the better the deal is for you. Many of these mini package deals are the little items you may need to make your car like new again. This is especially true concerning the radio knobs and the push buttons for the cassette option.

IN CLOSING - Parts are really getting difficult to find for these cars now that they are over 30 years old. For the first time that I can remember, the latest Hemmings Motor News did not even have one Grand National for sale under the Buick heading.
