EARLY FALL CONTEST -
In Photo 1 below we show 4 different views of a car that has been totalled and burnt to a crisp. Look at all 4 photos. You need to determine the model car that is pictured. Two of the photos should help you narrow down your guess. Unlike our usual M&M contests, this one may not produce a winner right away.!
You need to email me your one single guess as to what model car this is? I do not need to know the year. Just the model. Contest is open to all subscribers except those connected to the Turbo Regal business.
Your single guess must be emailed directly to me [email protected] Earliest correct guess is the winner. Good luck players! The winner will receive a copy of both volumes of the Tips, Trivia, & Sources for 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regals.
PHOTO 1 - We show 4 views of this totally destroyed car. I find it strange that they simply did not crush it since nothing seems to have survived the accident and the fire that must have engulfed the car.

THE RETURN OF TWO POPULAR PRODUCTS IN LIMITED SUPPLY -
As we hinted to in an earlier Inner Circle, we now have all 7 of the remaining rebuilt Cardone 1986-1987 Turbo Regal power steering pumps in stock. These are the last 7 in their inventory. They had zero listed in stock, but I had an inside source determine they had 8 cores sitting. It is from this 8 of which 7 were rebuildable. Because of our connection with Cardone we are able to find various parts that they show as not in stock. This is probably because cores are so scarce.
The same goes for the popular Turbo Regal steering gear assembly. I remember years ago selling these steering gears to the GTO owner. Because of the thread size we had to sell a special kit so the factory GTO hoses would work. These gear boxes made a huge difference in an A- body car such as the GTO. The GTO steering wheel took something like 4 ½ turns lock to lock. GTO owners referred to it as the forever steering.
These Turbo Regal gear boxes turn lock to lock under 3 turns plus give you a nice road feel. Again, due to the age of these cars, gear box cores are getting difficult to get. We have several in stock and I can get more. Any rebuilt part that is based on getting cores can prove to be a real challenge. With these cars now over 32 years old core suppliers can’t find specific cores to keep the parts in stock. Suppliers like us unless we charged $150 or more most customers won’t go to the trouble to send in a core due to shipping costs. Both these items do not require a core.
For example, I was able to find for one of our Corvette clients several vacuum boosters for the older C4 Corvettes. We sold him their entire stock they had!
We are actually able to sell the remaining 7 of the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal power steering pumps cheaper than we used to. The price is $119.95 with no core required. You must reinstall your pulley on the rebuilt power steering pump. Because we only have 7 available its best to call Christina in our office 215-766-1611 to make sure she has them in stock. The price is $119.95. Part #7378.
For the rebuilt 1984-1987 Turbo Regal Steering gear box no need to call the office. The price is $149.95. Part #7380. This is the same price we used to sell them for. Both these related parts should be on our website. If your Turbo Regal has high miles on it this rebuilt steering box would be a nice upgrade!
PHOTO 3 - We show both the rebuilt 1986-1987 power steering pump, and the rebuilt 1984-1987 Turbo Regal quick ratio steering gear box. This quick ratio steering gear box will fit all the 1984-1988 G-body cars including the Monte Carlo SS and the Oldsmobile 442 models. Suppliers of the quick ratio rebuilt steering box is limited but I don’t expect it to be an issue until later this fall.
1986-1987 TURBO REGAL ALTERNATORS -
In recent months demand for our brand new 1986-1987 Turbo Regal alternators has really increased. For every 3 of the 120 amp alternators we sell we sell 1 of the custom built 200 amp units. This is probably for several reasons. The 120 amp alternator is unique to the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. The same vintage Monte Carlo SS model only calls for a 78 amp alternator. I assume the Oldsmobile 442 would require a similar 78 amp alternator as well.
All the other Turbo Regal vendors probably market one that is mass produced and sold by a huge supplier. Some vendors don’t even offer any alternators. Most of the mass produced alternators do not even resemble the factory one that Buick used originally. Both our 120 amp and custom built 200 amp match exactly what Buick installed originally on the cars. Besides the attention to appearance ours uses the proper size pulley which is a critical part in providing proper charging. All our alternators are built and tested by one individual that I have known personally for over 40 years. He stands behind his workmanship. He has no employees. I used to do his towing years ago when he had a repair shop. He is only about 10 miles from my location.
The original alternator in the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal rated at 120 amps makes it very unique among all the G-body applications. It is a critical part and is very visible under the hood. It pays to go with one that matches the original. Like the valve covers they can turn ugly over time.
PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows our brand new 120 amp alternator. The top right photo shows our brand new 120 amp alternator alongside an original 30 year old one on a 1987 Turbo Regal. The bottom left and bottom right photo we show two other original used alternators on a typical 30 plus year old Turbo Regal.
COMING SOON TWO NEW PARTS -
One part we will soon have replaces the cheap version Buick put in every Turbo Regal. The other item we are working on compliments your car and we will have several versions of it. This item we will be offering to all the other vendors as well.
ON A SIDE NOTE -
We just did a deal with Zip Products, one of the leaders in the Corvette mail order business for many years. We granted them an exclusive on the 6-speed Kirban Kwik shifters we used to sell over 15 years ago for the popular C5 Corvettes. These are made by the same source that makes our adjustable fuel regulators for the Turbo Regals and the Mustangs.
REPRODUCTION GNX DASH NUMBERS -
See the Rare Parts section as we still have a good variety available.
ANOTHER STORY FROM MY MEMORY -
Back in the early 1990s I started to buy and sell used 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. I started off very slow at buying them. According to my records, in 1993 which is the first year I kept records I bought and sold 4 of them. In 1994 jumped to 14. In 1995 dropped to just 8. In 1996 jumped to 18. In 1997 I must have gotten real serious on buying them as I bought and sold 32. In 1998 it was another banner year I sold 41. In 1999 it was my biggest sales year selling 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. I sold 44. Be next to impossible to duplicate numbers like that today.
If you do the math that works out to be about buying 1 every 8-9 days! That number is even more impressive when you take into consideration I was travelling as far west as the Mississippi River to buy them. I was on the road a lot.
My 350 page book was first published in 1997. That means I did most of my writing for the book in 1996. Back then I had a direct phone number to a contact at Buick. This guy was a real lifesaver with information. The timing was perfect to write the book as I usually had 5 or 6 Turbo Regals on our property at the same time. Back then there was no internet. I had no idea what was a rare Turbo Regal and what was a common one. I remember going to Indiana to buy a 1986 black T-Type with tan interior and the factory sunroof. This particular T-Type had the pillow style leather/vinyl seats with the regular door panels.
I had no idea that this car was the real deal or not until I contacted my connection at Buick. Turnos out Buick made a handful of 1986 T-Types with the pillow style Limited seats in grey or tan. My source was able to provide me with exact production numbers for the 1986 T-Types with the two versions of the pillow seats. That information is in my book. The pillow seats were a combination of leather on the top surface and sides were vinyl probably to save a few bucks. I even had a few of the early 1987 Turbo-Ts that were black with the black out package, an option Buick eliminated early on when they introduced the WE4. Again not a count anyone knows how many were actually built since nobody knew Buick was going to not allow the exterior black Turbo-Ts with the blackout package after they released the new WE4 models.
Once I was told that I went and bought the 1986 T-Type with the tan pillow seats. I don’t claim to know everything about these cars, I don’t think anybody can make that claim. Buick threw enough different combinations out there to choose from. Now with 30 plus years later there are a number of rare T-Types and Turbo-Ts out there.
Nobody can nail down exact numbers in many cases, but values increase every year on the ones that remain as close to original as possible. My point? Before you drill any extra holes in your Turbo Regal think twice!
CHICAGOLAND CHAPTER GSCA LICENSE PLATES -
We still have a good assortment of these rare Illinois license plates available. According to long time friend Paul Vilser who did the drawings, layout and production artwork, they were able to do this for 12 years from 1996 to 2007. Legally they were good for about two months but some owners kept them on for a full year. They can still be found on some Illinois cars at the National GS Nationals many years later. It was a clever idea for Illinois to offer this to I assume any Club that wanted to do it. Some of Paul's art work for these Illinois license plates were used on T shirts and also sold at the GS Nationals.
LIST OF MECHANICS FOR THE TURBO REGAL -
We plan to keep running this list of Turbo Regal mechanics for a while. As we get new additions they will appear at the end. Please if you use a good mechanic send us the info to share with our readers. They do not need to be a dedicated Turbo Regal mechanic.
.
Here is the updated listing of repair shops that we and other Turbo owners recommend. Some of the below names you probably recognize as they have catered specifically to these cars for many years. Also, many of them are long time customers of ours. We also got a good response from our readers and I have listed the shops they deal with as well. IMPORTANT - INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SHIPPING ADDRESS –
If you are returning any cores or products, it is important that you send them to the correct address.
KIRBAN PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS
529 HAYCOCK RUN ROAD
KINTNERSVILLE, PA 18930
We discovered that FedEx will not forward any packages that are sent to the PO Box or to our old address in Plumsteadville. Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.
If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use FedEx. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.
EBAY SALES –
We have been placing some of our special items on ebay. Be sure to check it out.

GOOD NEWS - WE ARE ACCEPTING CLASSIFIED ADS -
Good news - We now accept Classified Ads in our weekly Inner Circle emails. Over the years several customers have asked about placing an ad in our weekly Inner Circle.
Here are the options and the costs.
Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need to be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.
Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.
The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.
It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.
Our weekly Inner Circle reaches over 3,400 members every Wednesday direct to their inbox. The Inner Circle also appears every Wednesday on our website with the related photos. Your ad would be visible to both groups of readers. So, the exposure to your ad is well over 3,400 potential buyers.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –
BUTYL TAPE - 5/16” DIAMETER 10-FOOT ROLL -
This butyl tape is black, 5/16" diameter, and comes in a 10-foot roll.
The list of uses for this product is endless. Butyl tape has a strong adhesive and excellent sealing effect. It has very good waterproof performance. It is a "tape type" sealer used by glass shops to seal windshields and rear window glass.
It is not available in most auto stores, which is why we now carry it. Its unique feature of controlled compressibility allows easy installation and yet will not squeeze out when pressed. I have been using it for a variety of projects for many years.
We include it with several of the parts we sell, such as the LED Third Brake Light and the foam filter for the wastegate solenoid. In both cases, it is used to hold the part in place. It’s ideal to fill small holes in the trunk. Buick used it to seal the quarter windows.
If you have a section of wind noise on the weatherstrip seal to the door glass, simply put a section of butyl tape between the molding and the weatherstrip to "puff" out that section of the weatherstrip. The problem is solved. If you have T-Tops and are replacing the metal T section, it’s ideal to use this between the T metal bar and the roof area.
It’s ideal to help seal any moldings in place or lose trim.
Every owner should have a roll of butyl tape in their garage or workshop.

TINTED PARKING LIGHT COVERS (2)
Years ago we sold a similar product. This new design of front parking light covers goes between the actual light assembly and the metal exterior bezel. These are machined drilled and each cover has polished finished edges.
This design makes these covers look like a factory part. Since the covers go between the lens and the outer bezel, you do not see any edges of the covers. The same factory screws are long enough to make them fit properly.
Each side is machined for perfect fit and drilled to fit exactly over the parking light lens. They still let enough light out. They will never come loose and they look stock for the car.
In recent years the "all black look" has become popular. On a Grand National or a WE4 with a black bumper, this gives a nice appearance of everything blending into solid black.
This makes for a cleaner look on the bumper, especially for the Grand National and WE4 models with the black bumpers, since it tones down the bright amber parking light. A subtle change to enhance the front end of the car and the perfect touch for any Grand National or T-Type.
Both tinted parking light covers are the same, are easy to install, and fit any 1982-1987 Regal model.
Since these are made especially for us, we can offer a very reasonable price.

SCANMASTER STEERING COLUMN BRACKET
Here is a simple way to mount the Scanmaster, part #6783, so it is in your direct sight.
The bracket attaches by velcro, which comes with it.
We used to sell a similar steering column bracket years ago until our source stopped making them.
We now have a new supplier who makes it in a high-quality acrylic plastic. It is then painted in the Turbo Regal grey, so it will match most Turbo Regal steering columns.
An excellent way to mount a Scanmaster.

REPRODUCTION VACUUM BRAKE PEDAL
We now offer this reproduction vacuum brake pedal. The difference between the vacuum brake pedal and a Turbo Regal pedal is the location of the pin that the rod goes to that comes through the firewall. The vacuum brake pedal makes the installation easier. Without the vacuum brake pedal, you would need to weld a new pin in a different location on the original Turbo Regal brake pedal.
Finding a good used vacuum brake pedal has become more difficult as time passes. Because many Turbo Regal owners are converting to vacuum brakes, the demand has been heavy.
This reproduction pedal has solved that issue of using a 30-plus-year-old rusted vacuum brake pedal.
NOTE - You need to re-use the original bolt and bushings to secure the pedal to the bracket under the dash. The pedal is bare metal and will require painting.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
Remember we don’t expect to have the factory style heavy duty hose sets until sometime in November. Part number #7553.
