SPID LABELS AND WINDOW STICKERS -
Unfortunately, there is not one specific company or book that I have come across to obtain all the information you need to get either a replacement Service Parts Identification (SPID) label or a Window Sticker, unless you have an original to go by. Even the sources I’m aware of, do not have the information on everything to reproduce either the SPID or Window sticker to be 100% accurate.
Our cars were built just before the dawn of the computer age for record keeping, so the old formats for keeping records can be a daunting task to scan. Adding to the problem is our cars are part of the entire Regal production run each year.
For example, if you buy a used GM car or truck today, as long as it’s built after 2001-2002 any GM dealer can run the VIN number and give you a complete printout of every option, order code for that option, and the assembly plant where the vehicle was built. This is something I do with every used vehicle I buy to keep with my records.
Chrysler even goes one step further. Their printout can tell you the exact day, month, and year the vehicle was built. I know all this because for kicks I had my local dealer run the VIN number of our 2004 Impala, 2005 Tahoe, and our 2012 Chrysler 200 model. The dealership I deal with covers several different makes. I got 4 or 5 pages of information for each vehicle.
It turns out the 2012 Chrysler 200 was a very early production as it was built on September 7th, 2011. The number of codes is over 175 on this option-loaded Chrysler 200 model! Most of these options were not even posted on the car on the dealer lot! I didn’t even know some of them when I bought the car. More interesting is the Chrysler printout gives the code for each of the springs - front left, front right, left rear, and right rear. Neither of the GM printouts I have for the 2004 Impala and 2005 Tahoe gives that information on the springs.
I bring this up because last week I talked to George Zapota who works at Vintage Vehicle Services out of Canada. He explained to me that they cannot provide the codes either for the coil springs on the Turbo Regals and possibly some of the other obscure codes.
The SPID label lists codes for all front and rear springs on our cars. I don’t know how to determine the exact codes for the coil springs. Basically, he said they have access to about 90% of the option codes that would be on your car’s SPID label or Window Sticker. He also explained they do not have the prices for any the options, only the order code and option description that would relate to your actual VIN number. They do provide the name and address of the dealership that sold your car originally. This is good information to have. However, they do not have the dealer code, which would be on an original Window Sticker. So, armed with the information that Vintage Vehicle Services can provide, you will get most of the information you need.
The price for all this is $175 Canadian, which (depending on the exchange rate) would be around $140 U.S.
The company is called Vintage Vehicles Services. To reach George direct, his email is - [email protected] He can then email or fax you the form needed to process your request.
According to George, mail can take 2 weeks from Canada to U.S. They do offer a faster service that cost more money.
The other company to contact would be GM Media Archives located in Michigan. Their fee is $50 and also takes 2 to 3 weeks because they have to reproduce copies of the dealer invoice from microfilm and microfiche, which was used back when our cars were new. In some cases these invoices may no longer be legible or unavailable. So, there is no guarantee that records specifically for your car can be reproduced from their system. They would tell you this once they have your information.
Their email is - [email protected] - or phone is 1-734-261-5086. Their website is - gmmediaarchive.com
In quick review, you can quickly spend over $200 just to get any available information and still not have everything to reproduce a copy of your SPID label exactly and/or a Window Sticker for your Turbo Regal.
Either service takes 2 to 3 weeks to get, plus mail shipping time. Each provides part of the puzzle and perhaps duplicates and confirms other parts of the puzzle.
I have a partial solution, if you need to determine the actual cost of each option for the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals. This information Vintage Vehicles does not have available. GM Media Archives does show the actual cost of each option that came on your car if they are able to scan the file for your VIN number. However, the Buick Price Directories I have show every available option you could order, with the RPO code and the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. These booklets make excellent reference guides to keep. I have original Buick Price Directories for every year 1984 through 1987 Buick models. Each pocket-size booklet runs 55-60 pages and covers all the Buick models for that particular year. It also shows the standard equipment for each model, the Buick code for each option, and the manufacturer suggested retail price for each option for that year.
I double-checked the prices in the 1987 Price Directory against my original 1987 Turbo Regal Window Sticker and even though my car has just a few options, each price listed in the 1987 Price Directory was the same as the ones on my original Window Sticker.
These Price Directories put all the option code prices in one single booklet.
The Vintage Vehicle source and possibly the information I have, which shows each price of each option, may be most of the information you need. You will need all the information you can gather if you plan to get a reproduction Window Sticker done for your Turbo Regal.
So, between the sources I mentioned above and us, we have most of the data you will need for a reproduction Window Sticker or SPID label, once we work out the details and pricing with ECS Automotive Concepts.
See the Rare Parts listing in this issue as we have copies of these 1984-1987 Price Directories listed for sale.
PHOTO 1 - Shows the cover of each year (1984-1987) Buick Price Directory. Each of these pocket-size approximately 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" booklets run 55-60 pages and cover all the Buick models for that particular year, breaking down each option with the code and the price of each option. These booklets appear to be an off white paper, due to age of the booklets. It also shows what features came as standard equipment for each model. These pocket-size informative booklets are next to impossible to find today and contain some of the key information relative to your Turbo Regal. This is what the sales person would have referred to when you ordered your new Buick Turbo Regal.
PHOTO 2 - Shows a typical page from Photo 1 in the 1986 Buick Price Directory under the Regal model.
For each listing it first shows the order code, followed by the description, and then the manufacture’s suggested price of that particular option. For example - Most years they had 4 or 5 radio options available. This is what makes this handy booklet valuable to have in your collection.
Back when these cars were fairly new literature related to these models was more readily available. I also found similar Buick Price Directories that an aftermarket company produced. These were the handy pocket size as well, but had more information in them for the salesperson. It gave the EPA mileage estimates for each model, safety features, and even has a chart in the back for the monthly payments depending on length of the loan and amount financed. In other words, a quick reference guide so the sales person could talk intelligently to a potential customer!
I imagine Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac also had similar Price Directories, since options for those cars would not always be the same as the Buick.
PHOTO 3 - Shows the 3 different Buick Price Directories in have in my collection. I am missing the 1984 Price Directory. It’s been years since I seen any of either of these informative pocket size booklets for the Buick models for sale anywhere.
CORVETTE AND CAMARO INFORMATION -
In the GM family, the Corvette and Camaro owners are fortunate enough to have almost all the information at their fingertips in one book for Corvette and one book for the Camaro.
The Corvette Black Book has been published since 1978. Not only does this book list every option for ever year, but the RPO (order code), the retail price, and how many of that option was made! That is one feature I am sure many of us Turbo Regal owners would love to know.
These Corvette Black Books show the color codes, interior codes, also interesting facts about each year Corvette.
The same company also produced the Camaro White Book starting in 1985. From what I can see, the RPO or order codes are the same across the board. Example - CC1 stands for roof panels with removable glass in the Camaro book. For the Buick, wording it’s the same - RPO order code CC1, but the wording for CC1 reads Hatch Roof.
The 1986 Camaro with the optional roof panels with removable glass cost was $846 and in the 1986 Turbo Regal with the optional Hatch Roof was $895. So, the cost factor was pretty close between the F-body Camaro and the G-Body Regal. I am fairly certain, even though the pricing was slightly different, both options provide water leaks in the rain!
Both of these books can be ordered online - corvetteblackbook.com - or - camarowhitebook.com
It would have been great had someone in a position of authority at Buick given it any thought to somehow document and keep the engine code 7 and engine code 9 cars records in its own category and file system. It would have certainly paid off in later years. It would not have been that hard since the entire production was all done partially at the Flint plant and finished at the Pontiac plant.
That is probably one reason the Corvette records are so easy to document since all production was done first at St Louis and then switching to the new plant built in Bowling Green in beginning with the 1984 model.
Older GM muscle cars could have been built in over a dozen different plants.
I remember when I was buying and selling GTOs, even though I was in Pennsylvania, I recall buying two GTOs that were specific for California with their early style emissions control system on the air cleaners. This may have been a 1966 or 1967 model. Back then California always led the nation with its emission laws. It was a very unusual sight for someone like me in Pennsylvania, as I never knew those cars were different until I owned them.
PHOTO 4 - Shows both the Corvette Black Book and the Camaro White Book. One can only imagine how popular a book with this information would be for the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals. Especially, if the information could be broken down between the regular Turbo Regals and the Limited Turbo Regals that were produced in 1987. Some of our readers would probably be pleasantly surprised at just how rare their car is. You have to go back to the early 1960s with the Corvette to hit the number of cars built to equal the Turbo Regals to get any type of comparison in number of cars built and quantity of options against that total of cars built.
RECALLING OUR OWN 1964 GTO -
Back when we first started our GTO business, like our Turbo Regal business, I knew it was important to have a GTO to keep. It always looks better when you are marketing a product line to actually own one of the cars related to the product line.
Looking back I should have kept one of the 1966 GTO models I had. Four things made it extremely valuable. First, it had 100% original paint. Second, the paint color was black with a matching black interior. Third, it was a factory tri-power four-speed car. Fourth, it had Hurst wheels on it.
The color black was extremely rare back in the early muscle car era. Hurst wheels today can bring $8,000 to $10,000. Tri-power set ups $3,000 or more. I sold it many years ago, I think for about $3,500.
Instead of keeping the rare 1966, when I bought a 1969 GTO Judge ram air car that had been sitting in the woods, as a bonus the seller gave me a 1964 real GTO roller. It was gutted with no drive train. However, what made it a good candidate to build, even with my limited skills, was that the body was solid. Even the trunk had no rust. I did not have to replace any body panels. The interior was no problem because every Lemans had the same interior pattern for that year. At the time I did know someone at Pontiac that worked at the corporate level. Matter of fact, I would later sell Pontiac Motor Division a steering wheel for the 1964 GTO they restored that they still own today. I remember at the time making a Xerox copy of the check from Pontiac Motor Division! I called my friend at Pontiac and gave him the VIN number to this ugly brown 1964 GTO roller I had, just to find out how it was equipped when it was new. Somewhere in my collection I have proof as to what he told me.
Remember, this was 1964 - the very first year for the GTO. Turns out my GTO had almost zero options with manual steering and manual brakes. Two unusual things - the car was fitted originally with 15" wheels and the gearing in the rear was 4.33s. I never heard of GTO coming with 15" wheels from the factory. The car was brown with a brown interior. Not a popular color for a muscle car, and was built it appears with one objective - racing! I imagine the 15" wheels were to cut down the high rpms at highway speeds because of the 4.33 gearing. Keep in mind, Pontiac engines are not high revving cars, like the Chevys.
This was back in 1978, so at the time these facts did not really mean much to me. Unfortunately, I have no idea where the car resides today and for all I know, the current owner may not even realize that I built that car, or that it was featured in Popular Hot Rodding years ago, and most unusual is how it was equipped when it was new. Somebody could be very pleasantly surprised. I do not have any record of the VIN number. My name may not carry much weight to whoever owns the car now, but the info on how it was equipped would make it quite unusual should the car be put back to stock.
THE VERY FIRST TURBO BUICK & MOLLY -
Many of our readers may not know the background story of the very first Buick Turbo that Molly worked on, which was the forerunner for the Turbo Regals we have all come to know and love.
Here is a link to this interesting story:

If you stumble across this car in the northwest, can you imagine what the value would be once it was restored to its original glory?
DO YOU OWN A BUSINESS -
Do you own any type of business?
We are working on a project for another company and in the process of working out the details for his project we discovered how a similar format would work for business owners. Doing further research, I discovered nobody I have found on the internet can offer something at a similar price. It can also be something you can sell.
I should have my first samples in about a week. They would be custom-made specifically for your company. Are you curious? You got nothing to lose. Send me an email for more details - [email protected] Put in the Reference - “New Business Project.”
GM LICENSED REPRODUCTION DOOR JAMB VIN DATA DECALS - continued -
After reading the opening paragraphs in this Inner Circle on the information on what is needed to eventually secure a reproduction SPID label or a reproduction Window Sticker, the door jamb VIN data decals is quite a bargain.
We have gotten a good response to this new service we are offering. I even heard from a customer who attends car auctions and he says one of the first thing dealers check is the VIN label on the inside driver’s door jamb area. So far we have one major Corvette company, Zip Products, that is going to offer it to their customers. The Corvette market is huge and when you are talking about cars valued at $50,000 and more, VIN decals have tremendous meaning to those owners. Several other Corvette companies have inquired about the format as well.
I should have samples next week of every year door jamb VIN data decal from ECS Automotive Concepts from 1969 to 1983. In the meantime, I have gone to several junkyards to try to find a GM body number plate for every year 1969 through 1983. So far I have found a few and discovered that GM used 3 different formats during those years. In one of the formats, the Body Number Plate was a different size. I will never be an expert on this, but I have learned a lot in the little research I have done so far.

The price for a single reproduction blue door jamb VIN data decal is just $49 and $7 for Priority Mail shipping. Like the later door Jamb VIN data decals, allow 5-7 days for delivery. DO YOU LIVE NEAR SOUTH AMBOY NEW JERSEY -

Year ago Matt brought me several Turbo Regals that I would buy and resell from the New York area.
THE POWER OF YUM YUM DONUTS -
As I have mentioned in the past, Yum Yum Donuts is a local three-store chain in my area that recently celebrated 50 years in business. My first experience with them was around 1980 when I would get GTO Hurst shifters rebuilt for customers. Customers would send me their Hurst shifter and I would take it to the Hurst factory the next day.
It quickly occurred to me, since I was going there so frequently, if I took them some Yum Yum donuts, I would get the shifters back in just 2-3 hours instead of the next day! In other words, Yum Yum donuts produced great results!
Using that same theory, when we had an addition built on our old house, I struck a deal with the builders. I would bring them a box of Yum Yum donuts every day. Each box would be numbered and when it hit 50 days, the addition would have to be complete. Needless to say, that incentive did the trick and 50 days later the project was completely done. In the process they probably gained a few pounds! The same builder actually still makes some Buick parts for us today!
In the old days, when buyers would fly in to buy one of our Turbo Regals, we would stop at Yum Yum donuts the following morning before they began their trip home. Yum Yum donuts have become a mainstay for all our Open House events over the years.

1984-1987 ALL GM Car Models, Including Buick Turbo Regal -
GM LICENSED DOOR JAMB VIN DATA DECALS
Every 1978-1987 G-body car had 2 tamper-proof door jamb VIN data decals. It’s impossible to remove the originals decals without destroying them. These decals are required by Federal Law to be printed on tamper-proof paper. The important decals show the car’s date of manufacture and the 17-digit VIN number. In many cases, your original decals may no longer be readable, may be missing, or may have paint overspray on them.
GM used a different design for each specific year or years.
Below is all the information pertaining to getting the proper reproduction door jamb VIN data decals for an 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. This also includes any 1984-1987, Monte Carlo SS, or Oldsmobile 442. We can also get ones for those same years for the regular models. In those cases, the tire sizes listed would be different.
We are working with the only GM licensed vendor authorized to reproduce all these important VIN-related decals for GM older vehicles, ECS Automotive Concepts. We are the only mail-order distributor directly dealing with ECS to offer these decals for the cars listed. We also have made this product line available to other GM mail-order suppliers. ECS Automotive Concepts also has VIN data decals contracts with Ford, Chrysler and several others. They have the special equipment in house to exactly match the original font style GM used to imprint the door jamb VIN data decals. These are printed on the correct tamper-proof paper, which is required by Federal Law. They are the ONLY GM licensed source to make them complete using the proper font format to imprint exact information for your individual car.
While you can find blank VIN data decals available elsewhere, many are not on the correct tamper-proof paper (required by Federal Law.) Most of these sellers offer blank decals and tell you to simply type in your information. Of course, your typewriter is not going to match the font style GM used, it’s impossible to type it straight onto a small decal, and who even has a typewriter today. The correct equipment to duplicate the original font GM used runs over $100,000. ECS Automotive Concepts has this equipment in house. Their larger market caters to all the late-model GM-Chrysler-Ford vehicles for collision shops, since they hold all the required license agreements with those companies to reproduce the VIN decals.
If you want to have the correct door jamb VIN data decals to replace unreadable decals on your car or if your car’s decals are missing altogether, ECS is the only authentic option. These are custom-made specifically for your car. Having these important decals also enhances the value of your car. It is one of the things collectors look for since it has the VIN information on it. Not having these VIN data decals on a car raises a red flag with any potential collectable car buyer.
Be sure to read all the below information carefully before placing your order for replacement 1984-1987 Turbo Regal Door Jamb VIN Data stickers. We only offer them as a set of both decals. You cannot order just one, since it would stand out looking new next to the old original decal.
First, if yours are still on your door jamb take a photo so you can see their exact position. Do NOT remove them until you receive the new decals. Be sure to note which one of the two decals is the first one on your door jamb and which direction they face.
We have listed the original GM part number by each year, which appears on your actual data VIN decals. In each case, the GM part number was the same for both with the addition of either the letter A or B after the part number.
The A code will show your 17-digit VIN number, date of manufacture, and vehicle weight.
The B code covers the Tire-Loading information.
You need to verify that it’s the same GM part number that corresponds to your specific year Turbo Regal. This 8-digit GM part number with the letter A or B will be in the bottom right corner of the two door jamb data decals. If your label that contains the 17-digit VIN number is completely gone or not legible, you must send us a clear copy of your VIN number from the dash VIN plate, the SPI trunk label, or your car title. Along with the photographic file, also type out the 17-digit VIN number and Date of Manufacture so it can be checked against the photo.
We cannot process your order without this proof of your VIN number. You also need to provide month and year of Date of Manufacture. The only way I know this can be determined is by reading the code on your Body Number Plate, also called the “Cowl Tag Plate.” This is the small metal plate located under the hood by the driver’s side wiper arm. In most cases, you will have to lightly sand the raise letters/numbers to read them. The code you need is on the first line. There is a 4-digit code in the upper left corner that gives the year, month, and week of production of your car. Keep in mind, Dates of Manufacture could be the fall prior to your actual model year. Example - An early 1984 model could have a production date of November 1983, December 1983, and so on. You only need to give us the year and month, which is what would appear on the door jamb VIN data decal. The first letter in the code stands for the year. The digits following the letter represent the month. The last single letter represents the week of production. Example - The letter E stands for 1984, F stands for 1985, G stands for 1986, and H stands for 1987. Example - For the month of production - 02 would be for February, 04 would be April, and so on. The letter after the initial numbers is the actual production week of the month, which we do NOT need since it does not appear on the door jamb VIN data decal. With that in mind, E would be the highest letter in the code for the weeks of the month. E represents 5 for the 5th week, which some months do have.
Even if your labels are intact and readable, you must type out your 17-digit VIN number and the month and year of manufacture date. This is very important! If the gross weight figure is not readable, we need to know what some of the major options are to determine the gross vehicle weight. Options like T-Tops and power seat would add more weight. If the decals are present, be sure to send a clear photo of them. For best results make sure your flash is off when you take the photos.
There are no free do overs. So, double-check your answers before placing your order. Remember, these are custom made specifically for your car. These door jamb data VIN decals are on the proper tamper-proof paper, just like the originals, which is required by Federal Law. Once you apply them, you can't reposition them so make sure to position them correctly. (Refer to the photos you took prior to removing your originals).
There is a clear coating over these new reproduction door jamb VIN decals, which is invisible to prevent them from getting ruined by most cleaning solvents. Be sure to double-check the GM part number on your original door jamb VIN data decals to match the year of your Turbo Regal as we have indicated below. This is because each decal can be different, depending on the year. In each case the font style GM used will be matched exactly. However, any imperfections that may appear in your original photo, such as crooked wording, will be made straight. This is the way it should have been originally from GM.
NOTE - In case the GM part numbers on your original door jamb VIN data decal are not any of the ones listed below for the years shown, pick the last choice on the order form and type in the GM part numbers that appears on your original door jamb VIN data decals. ECS will find that GM number in their system and be able to match it exactly. Even though the Turbo Regals were all produced at the same plant (Pontiac, Michigan) some differences may exist.
These door jamb VIN data decals are also correct for all the 1984-1987 GM car models, including the Monte Carlo, Oldsmobile Cutlass, and Pontiac Grand Prix.
We have pictured actual samples for each year 1984-1987 Turbo Regal door jamb data VIN decals alongside the matching part number to indicate what you would receive. Double-check that GM part number with your originals to make sure it’s the same.
1984 Buick Turbo Regal Door Jamb Data VIN Decals (2), GM part #14065978A and B.
1985-1986 Buick Turbo Regal Door Jamb VIN Data Decals (2), GM part #14085204A and B.
1987 Buick Turbo Regal Door Jamb VIN Data Decals (2), GM part #10080812A and B.
Orders will be sent by Priority Mail directly from ECS Automotive Concepts. Decals are custom made, so allow 5-7 days for delivery.
We do not offer any of these decals individually. Since both appear together on the door jamb, replacing only one would never match the remaining old faded decal.
Remember, ECS Automotive Concepts is the only licensed GM supplier that can make these door VIN data decals and has the proper equipment to match the original font GM used on the correct tamper-proof paper required by Federal Law.

17-Digit VIN number and include proof of VIN (such as a copy of SPI trunk ID label, or Car title.) Even if your photograph decals are clear, you must also type out the 17-digit VIN number.
Date month/year (See copy above to determine month and year of manufacture if your decal is missing or not readable.) Even if pictured, be sure to type out the month/year.
If your decal is missing or not readable, provide information on any major options (such as T-Top/power seat, etc.) to determine approximate gross weight.
If you have original door jamb data decals on your car, include several clear photos. Do not use the flash on the camera for these photos.
We also require a daytime phone number and email address with your order, in case ECS Automotive Concepts has any questions.
Be sure to verify the GM part number against the year of your Turbo Regal to the above information. If none of them match the numbers we have noted, include the GM part number that does appear on your door jamb Data VIN decals.
Remember, these are all custom-made data VIN decals pertaining to your car. So double-check your information before sending it to us. If you have sent the wrong information and the decals are made to your incorrect specifications, you would have to pay for the decals to be made again.
NOTE - The GM part number appears in the lower right corner of each of the original decals.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

IN CLOSING -
I should have another booklet available shortly, giving more details on the various codes found on the SPID label.
Here is a link to this interesting story:
http://www.junkyardlife.com/2013/02/first-turbo-buick-legend-of-buick.html
Here is the link to order the reproduction 1984-1987 door jamb VIN data decals.

BLUE DOOR JAMB VIN DATA DECAL PRICING -
The price for a single reproduction blue door jamb VIN data decal is just $49 and $7 for Priority Mail shipping. Like the later door Jamb VIN data decals, allow 5-7 days for delivery. You would also need to supply photographic proof of the 13-digit VIN number and tell us the month and year of manufacturer. This can be done by email, fax or by mail. Eventually we will have part numbers assigned to each door jamb VIN data decal from late 1969 through 1983 to go with the 1984-1987 ones we currently have in our system.
DO YOU LIVE NEAR SOUTH AMBOY NEW JERSEY -
Do you live near South Amboy, New Jersey? I have a friend who resides in upstate New York that is considering buying a 1980 Z28 Camaro. It is located at Zumback Sports Cars, 2030 NJ Route 35, South Amboy.
He needs someone to send him good photos of the underside of the car. If you can email him for more details and he will pay you. My buddy’s name is Matt, phone 585-230-0376 or email is - [email protected]
NOTE - DATE CHANGE FOR THE KIRBAN PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS SPRING OPEN HOUSE -

Below is the required information we need from you:
