Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 10-03-2018 –
WE ARE CLOSED THIS FRIDAY – OCTOBER 5TH –
Due to a death in our family, our office will be closed this Friday, October 5th. NOTE - No orders will be shipped on Friday.
INTERNET ISSUES AT HOME –
This past week we been having internet issues on our home computers so I have not been able to respond to any emails or post anything from home after work.
My plan is to attend Fall Carlisle one day this week. This would be the first year that I have not attended any previous Carlisle events for 2018.
BREAKING NEWS - BODY BUSHING KITS NOW AVAILABLE AGAIN -
Our supplier now has them in stock and we have an initial order of them coming in a few days. The part number is #7305 for $249.95. Remember to order the bolt kit as well, part number #6974 as they are special grade 8 bolts in the proper lengths to do the install.
1978-1987 BUICK REGAL CORE SUPPORT REPRODUCTION BUSHING KIT –
One of our constant sellers over the years has been the reproduction core support bushing kit, part #7304. This is a separate kit and is not part of any of the body bushing/cushion kits. Even other companies market this by itself. It was not considered a body bushing since it secures the actual core support.
If you were to view this on your Turbo Regal you could probably see how it is possible the body of the car is not still seated on the frame exactly square. This is one indication. Another indication becomes evident if you go with larger wheels and tires in the rear. Here you would clearly see where one tire sidewall would be slightly closer to the side of the frame than the other side. Another clear way of seeing this is to purchase and install a pair of the GNX body bushing. The GNX bushing seats into a hole at the top of your frame and the pointed top seats into the body. If that angle is off even just slightly you can’t properly install the GNX bushing.
The longer you delay in doing these bushings the more difficult it can be to install them and the more the body and frame may not be in near perfect alignment.
PHOTO 1 – The photo on the left shows a very clear picture of just have crushed and kinked this critical bushing can get after 30 or more years. The photo on the right shows the complete reproduction core support bushing kit which includes everything you need.
THOM SANSOUCIE AUTO SERIES LIMITED EDITION TURBO REGAL ART –
We have just one of the 24” by 36” Turbo Regal art prints available, part #7203. It is number 599 of 2000 produced. The normal retail price is $159.95 plus shipping. We are discontinuing this art print and also small one, part #7202.
This makes a nice gift for that Turbo Regal owner. The special price on this last print we have is $139.95 and just $12 shipping to the basic 48 states. You must call our office to order this – 215-766-1611 x 0. We only have this one print!
We also have on a piece of acrylic a picture of a 1966 GTO. I bought this several years ago at Carlisle. It measures approximately 15” by 20”. It is based on the box cover of the 1966 GTO slot car. That slot car has a value today of about $500 if you got one unbuilt in the original box. (I have one in my private collection). Either item makes for a nice unique gift.
PHOTO 2 – The photo to the left shows this 24” by 36” Limited Edition print #599 of just 2000 produced. Buy it now for just $139.95 plus $12 shipping. The photo to the right shows the 1966 GTO slot car box cover that was produced on acrylic. I bought this year’s ago at Carlisle. This is pretty neat looking. It measures approximately 15 inches by 20 inches. It is probably pretty rare. The price is $39.95 plus $12 shipping to the basic 48 states. To order either item you must call our office phone 215-766-1611X0 and ask for Christina. Remember I only have one of each available!
HISTORY OF THE ADJUSTABLE FUEL REGULATOR –
Adjusting fuel pressure over the years has gone under many changes since the cars were new. In the beginning one of the popular modifications was to simply crush toe top half of the factory fuel regulator. This simply produced a onetime adjustment and could lead to leaks! Another early method was to thread the vacuum port and install an allen head screw in the vacuum port to make the adjustment. This format proved to be inefficient as the set screw would not stay secured at a specific setting.
Around 1999 according to my old catalogs our supplier came up with cutting the top half off the factory fuel regulator and installing a billet top complete with the vacuum port and an adjustment allen screw in the center of the top. This proved to be very efficient and we sold them until 2001. Several companies used this format with the difference being the location of the vacuum port.
In 2001 because of the vast huge number of regulators we were getting produced for the Turbo Regals and Mustang 5.0s our supplier started to make the entire fuel pressure regulator from scratch. For the Turbo Regals and Mustangs he made the designs look identical to the stock fuel pressure regulator. We felt this was critical at least for the Mustangs since it sits under the intake manifold and it was critical that owners would not have any fit issues with various intakes. That design has proven successful now for over 17 years. It is hard to pinpoint who or what company was first to make a marketable adjustable fuel regulator for the Turbo Regals, I am confident in saying the billet design we market is the most popular among owners and most recognized today.
Here is the link to our website for more information on our billet adjustable fuel pressure regulator, part #6547.
PHOTO 3 – The photo to the left shows our popular early design adjustable fuel regulator that is probably over 18 years old and still in use! The photo to the right shows the later design that we introduced around 2001 and is still being produced today. Note this one pictured has been highly polished.
GENERAL MOTORS PARTS PUBLICATION REFERENCE CATALOG –
One of the rare GM books I have is dated January 1993. It is the last printing as future editions will only appear in microfiche and electronic format. One of the chapters in this informative book covers the SPID label. It breaks down a typical SPID label explaining how each group of codes refers to a specific option.
Two things I found interesting about that chapter is the SPID label they use as an illustration is the early 1985-1986 one #14065987 rather than the later one. The other thing of note is it alerts collision shops to exercise care when replacing a panel that requires the SPID label to be removed and reinstalled on a replacement panel. It also clearly states “Replacement SPID labels are not available. In other words even back when these cars were new GM did not offer replacement SPID labels. That may explain why later GM cars the SPID label were affixed in many cases on the spare tire cover. In GM trucks it was attached inside the glove box.
Again this is just my assumption to the possible answers as to why the location of the SPID label changed in later years.
This book even contains a chapter listing every OEM carburetor number with its reman replacement number! Another chapter lists all the RPO numbers for the options and what GM division had that option.
Again this is just one of the several books I bought years ago at various swap meets that gives verification for some of the topics I write about. Today you seldom see any of these various original GM books that dealers and body shops used as everything is on the internet today for the later model cars.
PHOTO 4 – The top left photo shows the cover of this 485 page book. The top middle photo shows the page that clearly states replacement SPID labels are not available. The top left photo shows a typical page from the chapter explaining the option codes on the SPID label. The bottom photo shows an original 1985-1986 SPID label #14065987, which is the one they used for the SPID chapter in this book.
REFERRING TO PHOTO 1 –
Here is a perfect example of an experience I had with a Grand National and frame alignment. Again, it was back in the 1990s something when I was buying Turbo Regals. I got a call from a person in Maryland wanted to sell their Grand National. The car had fresh paint and was mostly stock. I can’t recall their reason for selling it, but I remember the owner did not have it long. Maryland was a quick trip for me. I go with my truck and trailer and check from the Buick dealership O’Neil Buick.
Car looks really nice. I take it for a quick drive around the neighborhood. When I would make right hand turns I could hear the front tire rub the inner plastic fender. When I made left hand turns I did not hear any noise. Outside of that nothing struck me as being unusual or not correct. In most cases I would never hand over the check for the car until I had the car secured on my trailer. This way it gave me more time to look over the car and with the car elevated on my trailer it would make it easier to see the underside and see the exterior from a different angle.
The first disturbing issue I discovered is I always use special brackets to secure the Turbo Regals to the trailer. They are specific for GM car frames. This car did not have the slotted holes in the side of the front frame rails for me to install the brackets. While I was pondering this issue I took a good look at the front tire and the relationship each side had to the outer fender.
The distance was different. In other words one side the tire was closer to the back of the front fender compared to the other side. It didn’t require a ruler to notice this distance! At this point I knew this Grand National was not going home with me. I asked the seller did he ever have anyone follow him down the road and comment that the car did not seem to track straight. He said no and denied any knowledge of any issues with the body and frame.
I then gave him the bad news that I was not going to buy his Grand National. I told him my findings and said I don’t know the exact issue with this Grand National, but I can’t buy it as I would not be able to sell it based on what I have discovered. The seller was not happy, but I dodged a bullet! These issues may have explained why the car had a fresh paint job.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING –
