OCTOBER CARTOON -
PHOTO 1 - Our first photo is this month’s “Adventures of Tommy Turbo” cartoon. This caption reads “Go for the goodies, Super Heroes. I’ll meet you at the other end of the block with the Blackmobile.”
With Halloween just a few weeks away, we wanted to have a Halloween theme for the cartoon this month.
Notice all three Super Heroes are characters that always wear black, making the Grand National the logical choice for transportation.
LOCAL STREET ROD WITH A TURBO BUICK CONNECTION -
An old time friend of ours runs a local repair shop and small used car dealership. He called me the other day about needing a master cylinder. They are working on a 1934 Ford Coupe hot rod that was built about 20-25 years ago. Car is all steel except for the running boards. I did not think much of it until I went to his shop to see why he would have a hard time finding a master cylinder.
PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows the street rod on the lift. The top right photo shows the independent rear end set up which appears to be out of a Corvette. The bottom left and lower right photos show what the fabricator did for brakes when they built the car. They used a powermaster brake unit, which was positioned under the floor. You can clearly see the powermaster motor in the one photo as they have installed it remotely off the master cylinder.
Although not visible, the rest of the powermaster unit is further forward. You have to remove part of the floor to get to it and to fill the reservoir. I imagine due to space limitations, the fabricator of this street rod went with the powermaster system, since they were able to separate the electric motor from the master cylinder. A very clever set up that would keep people guessing, if they look under the hood and were trying to figure out where is the brake unit?
I believe this street rod is for sale. I can find out more if anyone is interested.
MORE PHOTOS FROM THE RECENT EAST COAST BUICK REGIONALS -
By far one of the most impressive Turbo Regals in the car show portion was this 1984-85 Turbo Regal that featured a completely modified custom build from top to bottom. You can tell this was a high dollar example that the owner has a real love for his car. He drove it from New York to the event in Maryland.
Everything about the custom work was very well thought out while still retaining the Turbo Regal look.
He put the Riviera Turbo emblem on the grille in place of the Buick emblem. The same Riviera emblem was embroidered into the headrests on the front bucket seats. The upper door panels where complete redone eliminating the plastic molding and pull straps.
The power window and power door lock switches were neatly installed in the lower door panel on the front edge. Probably the best feature on the interior was he had the original Lear Siegler seats all redone to match the upgraded interior. Those Lear Siegler seats are without a doubt the most comfortable bucket seats Buick used in the 1900s in the Regals. I have no idea why that option was discontinued after 1985.
PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows the twin turbo power plant in this Turbo Regal. The top right photo shows the dash layout. The bottom left photo shows the drivers inside door panel. Just in front of the armrest is where the power window switch and power door lock switch is located. The lower right photo shows the driver’s Lear Siegler seat complete with safety harness. You can see a portion of the roll bar. Unfortunately, these photos do not do this car justice.
PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows a 1964-65 Skylark that had a 1986-1987 turbo V6 engine in it. The top right shows a 1983 Regal coupe that was at the track. The lower left shows a super mint 1987 Turbo Limited racecar. Notice the molded all one-piece front end. The lower right photo shows the original untouched half-padded roof. According to the owner, this car was a racecar from when it only had about 2,000 miles on it.
IN CASE YOU’RE WONDERING -
In case you’re wondering, the Lear Siegler seat option is listed in 1984 and 1985 only as an option for the T-Type. It carried a $600 price tag. If you wanted a power driver’s seat, it added another $215 to the price tag.
The 1984 Grand Nationals had the Lear Siegler seats as standard equipment from what I found in the 1984 Dealer album.
The other difference is the Lear Siegler bucket seats in the T-Types of 1984 and 1985 where all cloth. The 1984 Grand National version had the leather inserts with the cloth bolsters.
This is information I have been able to determine based on the very little information in the Dealer Albums and Price Directories.
THE COST TO MAKE A PENNY -
The total cost of making a single penny in 2013 was 1.83 cents. This includes material, distribution and administration costs. In the year 2013 that figure amounted to a $55 million loss for the tax payers.
In the private sector, if something cost more than what it sells for, they would make a quick decision to cut costs, increase the price, or discontinue the item. Some government agencies seem to make slow decisions when they have the taxpayers’ money to spend.
On the other hand, to produce the nickel in 2013 us tax payers lost $49 million. The nickel cost 9.41 cents each to make. The good news is the losses were less in 2013 than they were in 2012 for the penny and nickel. Not much of a silver lining, but it’s something.
MAKE IT A DOUBLE EVENT -
Our Fall Open House is this Saturday, October 4th, rain or shine. The M&Ms are counted and the tables are getting set up.
It is also the 40th anniversary of Fall Carlisle, which attracts 100,000 people with just over 8,000 vendor spots. Carlisle is only about a 2-hour drive from our warehouse in Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania.
Depending on your plans, you could attend Fall Carlisle Friday and then attend our Open House the following day, Saturday.
I go to Fall Carlisle on Thursday for one day. It’s well worth attending, if you have never been to any of the Spring or Fall Carlisle events.
KIRBAN PERFORMANCE FALL OCTOBERFEST OPEN HOUSE -
SATURDAY - OCTOBER 4, 2014 - 2014 - RAIN or SHINE - 9 am until 3 pm.
OPEN HOUSE BREAKING NEWS -
We are again honored Richard Clark is planning on attending our Fall Octoberfest. Richard is one of the very few individuals who knows everything there is to know about the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.
We just talked to our resident Chef Russ and here is a partial run down of their menu for this Saturday’s lunch at the Open House… Boneless pork loin, kielbasa, hamburgers, meatballs, mozzarella sticks, vegetables, pumpkin pie, and cheese cake.... sounds good, huh.
Remember, all the proceeds from lunch donations go to the Molly Memorial Scholarship fund! Our customers are always generous for a good cause.
Here’s the plan… We will have our usual program, including a freshly prepared lunch by chef Russ and Nancy doing all the cooking with some special desserts. Our usual M & M contest, a no reserve auction, Free Yum Yums donuts in the AM with coffee. Special sale prices and new products will be on display.
CONFIRMED VENDORS & GUESTS - Pete Hoffman will have parts for sale, and I will also have used parts for sale (known as the "tagged and bagged" sale items). Coming again is Bruce Shaw - a lawyer and accountant specializing in Collector Car Fraud. Terry Shaw specializes in collector car appraisals and insurance claims, and he will also be there. Both Terry Shaw and Bruce Shaw will be doing seminars. So be sure to put this event on your calendar.
Also Black Ice Detail will be set up at our Open House. They have several new detail products available, including one that puts the black back on tires. This new product will stay nice and black for several months! This is the company that details my wife’s car and my car.
Spoolfool has donated one of his one-piece rear fillers for our “NO RESERVE” auction. We will have several close out items at our No Reserve auction, as well as several other neat items as well.
We will conduct a demonstration of the Multi-Function Jump Starter kit. I will bring to the event the dead battery that has been in the Regal at our house since 2010. I will install it in our 1987 Turbo-T at our event and you will be able to see for yourself a simple battery pack weighing less than 9 ounces will crank our Turbo Regal. Seeing is believing! No smoking mirrors, no magic words said over it, and no hidden back up battery in the trunk. The real deal.
UPDATE ON THE NEW MULTI-FUNCTION JUMP STARTER -
We just got our first shipment of the starter/charger units in and have filled some of our first orders. Another shipment is due in later this week, with a third shipment in the works.
I was at O Neil Buick GMC dealership the other day showing it to one of their top mechanics. He told me if it starts this dead Lucerne that was in the parking lot, he would buy one from me. The Lucerne had been driven with a bad alternator, so the battery was completely dead. The car had actually been towed to the shop.
The Lucerne has a huge battery located under the rear seat cushion, making it difficult to get a good connection. I was able to hold the cables in place while the mechanic started the car. He was amazed that something weighing just 9 ounces would crank the car over.
While I was doing this, another mechanic from the dealership saw what was happening and he wants to be a wholesaler of the product.
Our hope is to have at least a few available at our Open House.
One problem we face is the company shuts down for the first week of October. At our Open House I will put a completely dead battery in our Turbo-T and demonstrate the power of this product.

MECUM AUCTION CHICAGO -
Several readers have brought to my attention that a GNX with a mere 45 actual miles will be going through the Chicago Mecum Auction on Saturday, October 11th, 2014.
If the GNX has had excellent storage since new, this example with a mere 45 miles may hit the triple digits.
VEHICLES FOR SALE -
From time to time, whenever we spot an unusual or an exceptional car or truck for sale, or one we have for sale, we will put a blurb in our weekly Inner Circle. Also any cars that our customers have for sale will be featured here and you can see their car with photos on our website as well. In this category we will run the descriptions for two to three weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. Any new vehicles that we add will appear first, so the oldest listing would be at the end of this section. If any of these vehicles perk your interest, email me personally - [email protected] - for more information and photos.

CUSTOM TRUNK KIT PRICE CHANGES -
We just were notified that the cost of the GREY trunk material has increased. This affects our part numbers #7280, #7281, #7282, #7283, #7284, #7285, #7286 and #7287.
Effective immediately, the custom embroidered 8-piece and 11-piece GREY trunk kits have increased in price by $35 each.
The price for the custom embroidered 8-piece and 11-piece BLACK trunk kits remains the same.
The replacement factory-style 9-piece grey trunk kit, #6510 remains unchanged, since they come from another supplier.
Our supplier does not sell enough in grey to buy a huge roll for stock. This is the reason for the price increase. At this point, the black embroidered kits outsell the grey ones.
NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -
MULTI-FUNCTION JUMP STARTER - MODEL T6
Jump Starting / Digital Products / LED Lighting
Introducing one of the greatest products that makes jump starting any 12-volt gas or diesel powered vehicle easy to do. It is made by one of the leading battery manufacturers. Unit will also jump start any 12-volt motorcycle, boat, ATV or tractor.
The secret is in a very compact power supply module that is basically the size of a smart phone. It measures 6-1/2" x 3" x 1" thick and weighs a mere 9 ounces. It packs enough wallop to start any 12-volt gas or diesel powered vehicle, can charge a variety of digital devices, and also has built-in LED lighting.
I was very skeptical at first. So, I put it to the supreme jump starting test, using a car that was parked in a junkyard in 2008 (according to the Inspection Sticker) and not touched in 6 years. It cranked the engine like I had put a new battery in it! I then tested it on another car that was parked since 2010 and again it was like I parked the car the day before!
It comes with 4 other adapters that plug into a USB port on the side of the battery pack, which will charge a wide variety of electronic devices (phone, laptop, etc.) These adapters are formatted for four different outlets used on various digital products. This module or battery pack actually has two USB ports. All four adapters are fused into one lead, making it very compact and less likely that you would ever lose any of the four adapters. You can also plug your own electronic device cord into the USB port.
It also has a LED light with three settings: standard, flashing, and SOS. The LED light can stay on continuously for 48 hours if the unit is fully charged.
The power supply module (battery) can be fully charged in 4 hours either with the supplied wall outlet plug or supplied cigarette lighter adapter.
It has a built-in circuit protection, fuse protection, and an anti-reverse battery jumper plug.
The unit can stay fully charged if not used for 6 to 10 months!
You can jump start 20-30 vehicles on a single charge.
It has a visible 5-light bar indicator so you know how much "juice" is available. It goes into a sleep mode when not in use.
Each unit is fully tested before it is shipped to us. Each one is also partially charged, ready to be used.
In case of a power outage, this is the perfect way to charge your electronic devices.
Ideal for any biker, camper, automotive repair shop, or car dealership.
The convenience of having a pocket-size jumper module that weighs 9 ounces is better than lugging a 15-28 lb battery jumper box when you need to jump a vehicle.
NOTE - If you want a spare set of jumper cables, you can purchase it separately, our part #7631.
This makes a great gift idea for anyone who may store cars in a garage or for your mechanic.
It would be the perfect “Thank You” gift for car dealerships for when a customer buys a car.
Some of the other brands can run as much as $175 or more and may not offer all the features or the same specifications as this one. In some cases, you are paying for the private label.

Power Supply Module (battery)
Pair of Jumper Cables
4-Way Adapter with USB Connector

1978-1988 G-BODY with Factory T-Tops (including Buick Regal) -
FACTORY T-TOPS CUSTOM-MADE SUNSHADES (2) SET
One of the most effective methods to eliminate the sun from fading the interior on a T-Tops G-body car is to install a set of sunshades that block out the sunlight.
While several different versions exist, once installed what you see in your car all looks the same.
Our supplier uses grey factory headliner material.
Our T-Tops sunshades are notched to seat under the T-Tops molding trim. This format eliminates having to make major adjustments from inside the car. This is a very light-weight design that not only keeps the bright sunlight out, but allows the air conditioner to be more efficient.
Each set of sunshades come with easy-to-follow directions showing the proper placement, since each piece is custom made to fit each T-Top.
Another great interior restoration item.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
304 STAINLESS STEEL ONE-PIECE 3″ DOWN PIPE &
CUSTOM ALUMINIZED TEST PIPE KIT
This one-piece 3 inch down pipe will work with any factory-style exhaust Turbo housing. You have to remove the exhaust elbow so this will bolt up to the turbo exhaust housing.
It has an internal wastegate and, unlike most of the other one-piece 3″ down pipes, the internal wastegate is serviceable if needed. You have to modify the side of the turbo shield if you plan to re-use the stock turbo shield. This 3″ down pipe does have a threaded port on it to accept an air sensor or O2 sensor if needed. A plug is included if you do not have to use this port.
This 3" one piece 304 stainless steel down pipe is mandrel bent and will clear the stock inner fender and firewall. Because of the age of these cars it is recommended you have fairly new motor mounts and transmission mount so clearances stay consistent. This down pipe is slightly longer than the stock down pipe, so you have to use the custom 12″ aluminized test pipe that comes in this kit. The test pipe has the correct 4 bolt flange on it to bolt up to the factory style Y pipe. You will not be able to use a catalytic converter unless you find one that has a 3" diameter opening and is only 12″ long.
Kit comes with hardware to secure the down pipe to the Turbo. No gaskets are required.
Gains on a typical stock application in a quarter mile with no other changes are 2-3 mph and 2/10ths in a quarter mile.
This basic design has been popular for many years. This is the latest version.
Kit is drop shipped from our supplier.
NOTE - We recommend this kit be installed by a qualified auto mechanic.
A nice performance upgrade to compliment any other performance modifications you make.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
Just a few days before our annual fall Open House. Always a good event. We hope to see many of you this coming Saturday.
