Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 09-29-2021 -
BREAKING NEWS -
You should have received a special short Inner Circle on Monday giving you details about Castle's Second Annual Open House that is this Friday and Saturday at his location 9000 West Ogden Avenue in Brookfield, Ill on the historic Route 66.
I will be there both days with my granddaughter Devyn! Devyn is able to work virtually at her job, an option I never heard was possible when I was her age! She has never taken a road trip this long before this. The event starts both days at 9 am. Friday is a Meet and Greet Day. Saturday is the Car show with several custom made awards that Eileen has made for Castle to award and for me to award. We will also have our special M&Ms contest, something we have done for many years mostly at our Open House events. I hope to see many of our midwest customers! Car show runs from 3 pm until approximately 7 pm. Car show is open to any muscle cars. I will be giving a seminar scheduled for Saturday around 11 am. Free food and drinks both days. Paul wil have a special discount available both days on items that are in stock.
Devyn and I are driving out so we will be accepting powermaster, turbos, and mass air flow sensor cores to bring back. This saves you on shipping. We are also buying various good used parts and any NOS parts. This is only the second Buick event that I have attended in 2021 and probably the last one of the year with fall and winter fast approaching.
MORE BREAKING NEWS -
We will be adding more new products almost on a weekly basis. Here is one example: we are bringing back our fiberglass front and rear bumpers done in black gelcoat. They need to be sanded and painted. Being these are fiberglass they are not designed for highway use! Darrell made the original mold by preparing my steel bumpers off our original 1987 GN back around 1990.. They do not have the rubber cushion on them. Smooth finish. We have two sets in stock. The price is $699 plus shipping for the pair. Two sets in stock for the first two orders. You must call our office if you want a set as they are not yet on our website.
We will also be offering the popular 15 by 7 aluminum stock appearing Grand National wheels that G Body made several years ago. At this point we are not sure if we will be offering the other sizes since our business caters more to the stock appearing market. Call our office for pricing. Each wheel comes with the center cap and lug nuts. Powder coated on the back. You see these wheels on many Grand Nationals as their popularity has grown. Rechroming the original steel 30 lb Grand National wheels can set you back over $1800 a set because to properly re chrome a steel wheel it has to be cut apart. Plus you are paying the freight to ship it to a chrome plater and paying the freight to get them back!
PHOTO 1 - We show two photos of the custom made awards Eileen made for both Castle and myself. A cool one of a kind award. As part of the award Eileen used a powder-coated 1986-1987 Turbo Regal original inlet bell that is filled with marbles. The other two photos show two different original Buick ads highlighting the Buick V6 logo also called the Power Six logo. See article below about the Power Six logo and more related photos.
THE BUICK V6 LOGO -
Perhaps the most recognized logo on your Grand National is the Buick V6 logo also referred to as the Power Six logo. When I first got involved with these cars in the summer of 1987 I immediately associated the Power Six logo with the red Jiffy lube logo. Back then Jiffy Lube was quite popular in our area for getting a quick oil change. While my knowledge of the earlier Turbo Regals that had the Power Six logo is scarce, I am very familiar with the Power Six logo that adorns the 1984-1987 Grand Nationals.
I want to give a special “Thanz” to Inner Circle member Joseph Occhipinto for sending me a copy of the article from the October Hemmings Motor News magazine. At the time I did not subscribe to this magazine, but now I do. The author of the article Josh Skibbee I actually got to meet him and his wife at the Magna event earlier this past month. He owns a Grand National and wrote the article for Hemming Motor News.
If you own a Grand National and are observent you realize that every place the Power Six logo appears the arrow passes in front of the logo except in one instance - the 1986-1987 Grand National wheel center cap. The plastic medallion inserts on the center cap the arrow passes behind the logo. In every other case the arrow passes in front of the logo format. I confess I never asked Molly how that happened. That version on the center cap medallion is not, I repeat not the design Molly did. I have copies of his artwork and in each case the arrow is in front of the logo. Even the crudely embroidered logo on the headrest has it the correct way! Just my opinion but that embroidery work is not that great. It looks like they were trying to save thread!
I'm not sure anyone still at Buick today could shed light on why the plastic medallion on the Grand National center cap has the arrow reversed from all the other Power Six logos on any 1986-1987 Grand National.
Can you imagine if Toyota after paying Molly for the Lexus logo in 1989 then reversed the L? A car model logo or company logo makes a statement. It is baffling how this very visual mistake (my opinion) slipped through production and on to the center caps. A very visual part!
ally highlight the Buick V6 logo and only the logo. Most of us refer to it as the Power Six logo.
PHOTO 2 - We show a copy of the original artwork of the Grand National emblem that Molly did many years ago. It shows his notes as well. The larger photo is a copy of an original Buick ad explaining the Buick V6 logo also known as the Power Six logo.
PHOTO 3 - We show 4 different photos of where the Power Six logo appears on a typical 1986-1987 Grand National. In the one photo we feature the center cap sitting above the logo on the headrest so you can clearly see the difference.
When I was researching the material for this article I remembered that many years ago the very first reproduction we did was the console shifter indicator for the Turbo Regals. The PRNDD21.
I added a bit of color to the first run of the reproduction indicators by putting the overdrive D in a dark green color to add a bit of color to an otherwise blank looking shifter indicator. Back then the restoration was not in full swing like it is today. In the next production run I did make them properly all white color. My point? Some owners may think the ones with the green D for overdrive are original. Not the case. It reminds me of back in my GTO days. The Hurst wheel H decal in the center cap was gold and black George’s favorite colors. Over time in the sunlight the color gold in the decal would turn a light shade of green. When I did those decals over 40 years ago some owners complained and said they were wrong. I said no, mine are correct. The color gold was one color Hurst loved. Green never was considered!
PHOTO 4 - The one photo to the left shows the PRNDD21 shifter indicator that was from our first run of them many years ago showing a green colored D for the overdrive indicator. The photo to the right shows a house that is near our house. Not sure how the owner or owners decide the reverse paint scheme when it appears to be one house with split entrances and probably renters. On paper it may have looked cool, to reverse the two colors, but in real life it sticks out like a sore thumb in my opinion. May even hurt the resale value in my opinion.
COMING NEXT WEEK -
The stunt I pulled as a senior in High School that they would never allow anyone to do today.
SPOOLFOOLS ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE OCTOBER 2ND 2021-
The location is Spoolfool Productions at 1794 Monrovia Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92627. This is a swap meet and taco extravaganza. He will have special prices on slightly damaged fillers for cash in hand. Be sure to check it out!
A SHOW OF TREMENDOUS GENEROSITY BY ONE OF OUR LONG TIME CUSTOMERS -
In the last Inner Circle we showed a Jazzy Select electric wheelchair that a good friend of ours who makes all our new alternators had gotten and replaced the batteries and charger. One of our long time customers saw the ad and paid for it in full. He is a Veteran and wants it donated to any Veterans Organization of my choosing. He does not want any recognition! My friend said he would deliver it and would take a photo of it being accepted by the Veterans Association so I can send it to the donor. This is a generous gift for some needed veterans. Being a Veteran myself this is a very nice gesture. Positive proof there are some good hearted generous customers many of which I am sure are veterans themselves.
HORN RINGS -
Currently we have the next batch getting powder coated. In this batch we are getting two done in blue and 2 done in burgundy. This process is done prior to inserting the fake black buttons. The price is the same as the grey. However, if you want one of these in either blue or burgundy you must call Christina and pay for it. It will be sent at the end of next week. Remember we are only getting two done of each of these two colors in this current batch!
1987 GRAND NATIONAL HARDTOP FOR SALE STILL AVAILABLE -
One of my long-time customers (1989?) is going to sell his 1987 Grand National hardtop. Purchased used way back in 1988 and always garaged. Car has been to many of our open house events when he resided in our area. Car is now located in NC. Richard Clark performed some maintenance work on this Grand National 2 years ago and Pete Hoffman also installed the window rattle kits. Richard drove the car every day to lunch and got many compliments about the car. At that time Richard Clark put the real value of this car based on condition north of 30 grand! Plus the SPID trunk label was signed by Molly not once but twice! This is rare as he was at two of our Open House events with the last one in 2007.
He has the original window sticker and some of the paint is original. Car has had extremely great care. Mileage is 175,000. Runs strong. Transmission was rebuilt. New Cold Case radiator was installed.
Here is a list of the factory options in this remarkable Grand National. Front seat reading lamps, power door locks, power windows, electric trunk release, protective body side molding, 6-way power driver's seat, power antenna,s limited slip rear, AM/FM stock radio, cruise control, tilt wheel, concert sound speakers, rear defogger, tinted windows, and analog dash. Window sticker shows it sold for $17,7XX.
Upgrades include: Cold Case radiator, translator, and LT1 mass air sensor. Mass air pipe. Also RJC power plate, Kirban connecting front brace, front frame brace set, rear seat braces, and under the hood braces. Upgraded fuel pump, body bushings, low fuel warning, KYB shocks, custom made stainless dual exhaust system with flow master mufflers. New serpentine belt, coil pack, spark plugs, etc. Also a new gas tank.
The interior is in remarkable condition and shows virtually no wear at all. The fact this interior including the driver's seat is extremely nice shows the car has always had good care. All the braces he had installed years ago which goes a long way in keeping the car tight. He even has the key punch outs as well. The fact he has owned it since 1988, maintained it, kept it mostly stock, garaged it all these years, and has the window sticker makes this example a very worthy car to consider buying. You would be hard pressed to find a better example of a 1987 Grand National hardtop for this price and has been maintained as well as this car has had all these years. Perhaps most remarkable with 175,000 miles it still has the powermaster brake setup functioning on his car!
The price is $27,900 OBO. For more info and photos email me directly [email protected] Remember the same one owner since 1988!!!! We have a lot more photos we can provide if you are interested.
.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –
1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
REBUILT ORIGINAL AC DELCO MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR
We are one of the very few sources to offer completely rebuilt original AC Delco mass air flow sensors for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. New mass air flow sensors have been discontinued from AC Delco for several years.
Other available rebuilt units are rebuilt using late-model Camaro mass air flow sensors, not rebuilt from original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal cores like these.
When comparing ours to the various reproductions, it’s important to note that the original one has the “AC Delco” logo embossed on the top cover, which is visible on the car. Others may not have that feature. We have highlighted the embossed logo area with a red arrow in our first photo.
Ours are 100% correct original mass air flow sensors with the proper plug, which came on the car originally.
Original parts will always be the top choice over any reproduction, especially for those wanting to keep their car original.
Sensor has the harness plug in the proper location and comes with a manufacturer’s 90-day Warranty.
NOTE - Supplies are limited, so call for availability.

LOCK PILLAR REINFORCEMENT PLATES (2) IN STOCK FOR IMMEDIATE DELIVERY
This 2mm thick spacer is designed to give the door pin more support.
If you look at the area where the striker is attached, more than likely you will see hairline cracks. They are spot welds that hold a cage nut so you can attach the door striker. These spot welds tend to take the place of one of the 2mm spacers and at the same time give the door striker more support.
This lock pillar reinforcement plate is shaped to look as if it came on the car from the factory. The reinforcement plate measures approximately 4″ x 5″, comes powder-coated glossy black for a lasting finish (glossy black will blend with most dark colors doors and all the Grand Nationals), and are sold as a pair. Plates are easy to install.
It’s interesting to note that GM actually had a recall on another Buick model, the Somerset, back in 1985 for having a similar problem. Their solution at the time was similar to these reinforcement plates.
NOTE - You may also be interested in a related item - #6776 GM Door Strikers (2).
Another excellent replacement for any interior restoration.

AFTERMARKET EPA CERTIFIED LOW RESTRICTIVE STOCK CATALYTIC CONVERTER
Many owners may want to replace the original pancake-style restrictive catalytic converter. This is a unique catalytic converter with the proper custom-made 4-bolt flange at the back end. The overall length is 18 inches. This is a direct bolt in replacement and similar to the one we offered over 20 years ago. This only works with the stock 2-1/2 inch diameter downpipe.
It will bolt up to the stock exhaust or to the Pypes Dual Exhaust system, Part #6996, we sell.
Original catalytic converters can easily become clogged over a long period of time. They are also a lot more restrictive due to its pancake style. Some states have very strict laws regarding emissions equipment, even on older cars.
This catalytic converter also can lower any drone sound the current mufflers may make.
We offer this low restrictive catalytic converter, which weighs less than 8 pounds and is EPA certified! It is not a universal converter, but one with the correct 4-bolt flange on the one end that will directly bolt into your Turbo Regal.
With the amount of heat turbo cars develop, the converter can begin to break down internally and clog the exhaust system.
The EPA rules dictate that replacement catalytic converters must go in the same location as the original converter. This unit bolts into that same area and has the same mounting flange.
This catalytic converter comes complete with the 4-bolt exhaust flange. This 4-bolt flange is very unique to these cars as no other G-body application has this style flange. We also offer the 4-bolt flange, Part #7947, by itself for those of you that may want to get a test pipe made for off road use only.
Another excellent replacement for any exhaust restoration.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again.
Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
Remember you must email me directly - [email protected] to make sure it is still available. All prices as noted include shipping to the basic 48 states. Other two states and Canada call for pricing. Be sure to include my part number on your request makes it easier for me!
IN CLOSING -
Remember the weekly Inner Circle always goes out at 3 pm eastern time so subscribers all have the same equal chance on the Rare Parts. All our parts generally are priced to sell and below what others offer. Also our used items are exactly as described. Emails are acknowledged in the order we receive them regardless of when I respond as I am not always by a computer and I only use a flip phone. It's best to email as soon as possible as many of our items sell within the first hour! Do not call the office on the listed Rare Parts as you could lose out by someone beating you with an email.
