1986-1987 BUICK TURBO REGAL REPRODUCTION 8-HOLE MOLDED HOOD PAD -
This is probably the best solution for a stock-looking replacement for the hood pad on your 1986-1987 Turbo Regal.
Originally, they were a 9-hole hood pad. At some point, GM went to an 8-hole hood pad.
This reproduction, part #7770, was made off of a brand new factory GM 8-hole hood pad. It does not have any of the words on it.
Because this hood pad is oversized, we have them drop shipped directly from our supplier to you to save double shipping fees. We have a flat shipping fee so it is easy to order on our website. These reproduction hood pads are now available.
See the New Parts section for the complete information and link to it on our website.
PHOTO 1 - The photo on the left shows the new reproduction molded 8-hole hood pad. The photo on the right shows an original GM 9-hole hood pad. The hole in the center at the very back of the pad (which would be by the firewall) has been eliminated.
STOCK-APPEARING GNX REAR END COVER -
Years ago, besides making the first reproduction GNX suspension kits, Richard Clark also did a run of GNX rear end covers that lacked the mounting tab for the GNX panhard bar. The end result was a cool-looking rear end cover that had a drain plug and a larger fluid capacity.
I have had one on our Turbo-T for many years. I currently have an extra one of these unique GNX rear end covers available for sale. See the Rare Parts section.
PHOTO 2 - The photo to the left shows the GNX rear end cover, complete with hardware. The photo to the right shows the back end of our Turbo-T with its still silver original gas tank, yellow Bilstein shocks, and the very visible GNX rear end cover.
CASPER’S ELECTRONICS WEATHERPACK CONNECTOR ASSORTMENT -
Years ago, we used to sell this assortment of connectors from Casper’s Electronics. We bought one of those assortment kits among items we recently purchased from a customer.
PHOTO 3 - We show the Casper’s Weatherpack Connector Kit that we recently purchased from a customer of ours. The kit seems to be complete. This comes with the list of the connectors, as well as an illustration showing each connector in the kit. See the Rare Parts section as it is for sale.
OUR POLE BUILDING RODENT SECURITY SYSTEM -
With winter approaching, our rodent security patrol is on the job. Their job is to keep the pole building free of any rodents. The five cats we have all work various shifts.
PHOTO 4 - The photo to the left shows 2 of the 5 cats we have as they take a break from their duties by sleeping on top of our covered Turbo-T. The long hair cat we call Fuzz Ball, and behind her is Tuxedo, named because of her coloring. You can see a portion of the GNX artwork on the back wall behind them. The photo to the right shows both of the cooling-looking 1:64 scale Auto Zone 1967 Camaros. The detail is amazing. You can almost make out the emblems for the SS and RS on the fenders. The doors and hood open exposing a detailed engine. You can even see the red line on the tires. This is pretty cool with the lift included and clever packaging. It’s just a shame nobody at the executive level at Auto Zone submitted a request to make a Grand National or a GNX!
We have the extra pair of the Camaros that is pictured, unopened for sale in the Rare Parts section.
BACK TRACKING TO THE 10-25-2017 INNER CIRCLE -
In the October 25th Inner Circle we did an article on the various collectable car jackets, and mentioned we had sold GNX jackets years ago in our printed Grand News issues.
The other day we heard from Rick Phillips, a faithful subscriber for many years. He said in the November 1989 issue I listed GNX jackets for sale for $80 each or 2 for $150.
Rick is fortunate enough to have attended the big events we did in the 1990s at the air base. He still has his original 1987 Grand National with a mere 8,000 miles on it.
He does not mention in his email if he was smart enough to grab one of these GNX jackets I offered for $80 each in 1989! I wish I still had them… of course, the price would definitely be adjusted for today’s market!
COMING SOON - OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SPECIALS -
We are currently working on our annual Christmas Specials, which will be available later this month. Watch for it to appear in our Inner Circle.
UNKNOWINGLY BUYING A LEMON -
I probably have purchased over 125 used cars and trucks for personal use over my lifetime. Currently my wife and I have 6 vehicles.
About 7 years ago my 2001 Chevy Tahoe was at that point that I wanted to update it to a newer model with less miles. The rear was starting to make noises, which is why I wanted to trade it rather than retail it to one of my Buick customers.
At the time, I found a real nice well-optioned 2005 Tahoe with a price tag of around $18 grand. However, the same day I spotted a similar year GMC Denali for almost the same money. I chose the GMC Denali and traded in our 2001 Tahoe. I paid cash for the difference. This was on a Friday night.
Come Sunday I was driving the Denali when all of a sudden all the idiot lights on the dash came on for no reason. They stayed on until I stopped and restarted the truck. I informed the dealer that Monday and they said to bring it in if it happened again.
My wife and I took it on a short trip and not only did it do it again but the doors all locked and would not unlock. Fortunately, we could get the power windows to work to unlock the door from the outside.
I then took it back to the dealer to have them fix it. As luck would have it, they could not get the Denali to duplicate any of the issues I experienced. To be safe they replaced a few modules and gave me the truck back.
Again, it acted up. This time I did not shut the truck off but drove it to the dealership so they could see with their own eyes that something was amiss with this Denali. They agreed and once again replaced a few parts.
I took the Denali home and again it acted up. By this point I told them keep the truck and have one of the mechanics drive it to and from work to see what happens.
I kept track of the number of days I had the Denali and number of days the dealer had the Denali. By the time it was done, they had it approximately 21 days out of 35 days. On the day they planned to return it to me, it finally acted up again as the mechanic was driving it to work. The idiot lights came on and the doors locked.
At this point I said I had been patient long enough and I wanted a full refund. The dealership had a 3-day return policy. I was way past 3 days at 31 days. They tried to convince me to buy something else they had on the lot. They had already sold my trade-in truck. I said, no, I want a full refund as I paid cash and I knew the other dealer still had the Tahoe I had looked at weeks earlier. They finally agreed and gave me a full refund. They said they had never given a full refund after 3 days. I said I was extremely patient and never raised a fuss, during the entire episode. Fortunately, my wife and I had other cars to use.
A few months later I happen to run into the service manager and he said they never could pinpoint the problem, so the Denali went to auction and became someone else’s headache!
By the way, it was not a flood vehicle. The Carfax was clean, and it had 100% original paint. It was just my time to buy a lemon. I still have the 2005 Tahoe that was my second choice, and it has proven to be a good choice! A true story.
ON THE NEWS-FRONT -
Cadillac is celebrating 115 years in business in 2018. To mark this milestone, they are building just 115 of the 2018 CTS-Vs in Glacier Metallic. This Cadillac is packed with the usual goodies, including a 640-hp supercharged 6.2 liter V-8 engine backed up by an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The car is available now from Cadillac and will set you back $103,885 before your local state taxes get added to it. Sale taxes could make that amount close to matching the 115 number! My educated guess is that as a pure investment, you probably won’t be able to turn a profit on this Cadillac in your lifetime if you pay full sticker price for it. A better investment would be to try and locate a Cadillac from the first year of production!
On the other hand, the Buick GNX has proven to be a good investment if you paid in the mid-thirties for it in the late 1980s.
JACK SMITH RIP -
Jack Smith may not be familiar to most GM car guys, but he made his mark with the Chrysler Corporation when he insisted the Road Runner of Looney Tunes fame should adorn the new 1968 Plymouth Road Runner. Watching the Saturday morning cartoons with his kids gave him the idea of using the Looney Tunes Roadrunner on the new Plymouth Road Runner car.
A former mechanical engineer for Studebaker, he joined Chrysler in 1957 and ran a hopped-up Belvedere on the streets. He also helped created the 1967 Plymouth GTX, a car that I really loved. I bought and sold three 1967 GTXs years ago. I also had ago a 1968 green-on-green, bench seat 4-speed 1968 Roadrunner several years ago. If I recall, those cars never had many options.
Jack Smith was 94 years old. No word if the Road Runner cartoon will be on his grave marker.
UPDATE ON COLLECTOR SELLING HIS COLLECTION DUE TO HEALTH ISSUES -
Currently he has 3 cars to sell.
One car is a 1978 Corvette coupe. It has the L82 engine and one repaint. This is a real nice 4-speed. The car has 4 brand new factory wheels and has 52,000 original miles. The price on the Corvette is $12,900.
He also has a 1994 Trans Am 25th Anniversary Firebird for sale. This car is all original with all the papers and documents and has 34,000 original miles. The price is $16,900.
I heard both cars run while I was there. He has all the records on both cars and what has been done on them over the years that he has owned them. These cars have always garaged.
While neither car is extremely valuable, both are priced to enjoy and hit the car show circuit Because of their low production, they should maintain their value.
He also has a 1967 BMW 2000 CS factory 4-speed with dual weber carburetors on it. This is a nice example of an unusual BMW coupe for $14,900.
If any of these cars interest you, email me direct - [email protected]
UPDATE ON THE WHITE 1987 TURBO-T - FOR SALE -

1950 CHEVROLET PICK UP - TURBO REGAL POWERED - FOR SALE -
The same seller I bought the white Turbo-T from has this unfinished project to sell. The engine is a 1987 Turbo Regal engine with a mere 15,000 miles on it. He purchased it from a wrecked 1987 Grand National. The truck has an uncut 1987 Turbo Regal 8.5 rear under it. This has a rebuilt worked 350 Turbo Transmission behind the Turbo engine. The engine has several dress-up items on it, including the value covers. All the hard work has been done. The truck has been wired for 12 volts, with custom gauges and disc front brakes. The truck has no bed. The cab has surface rust and needs finishing.
For more information and photos, email me direct - [email protected] The truck is in central Ohio and would need to be trailered. The price is $5,495. Remember, you get a complete stock 15,000-mile Turbo Regal engine with a complete uncut 8.5 posi rear end, both of which came out of the same wrecked 1987 Grand National in 1988.
1987 GRAND NATIONAL FOR SALE -
I am representing this 1987 Grand National hardtop for sale for the owner who resides in Florida. This car is at the top of the value chain and is, without any doubt, one of the best. It has been in the same family since it was new. The original owner bought it when he was single. Soon after, with a growing family, it became evident the Grand National was not a practical car, so he sold it to his brother who I have known for probably 20 years. His brother recently passed away and that is why the car is back down in Florida.
It has been made better than new. When I say better than new, it is mainly due to the fact it has had a very high-dollar repaint applied and everything has been freshened up.
I knew the brother that passed away quite well, since he was heavily involved with GTOs and even wrote a very detailed book on GTOs that is still sold today. He also had a GTO and was a very meticulous individual. His name was Eric White. The book he wrote years ago was titled, “GTOAA of America Pontiac GTO, GT-37 Illustrated Identification Guide.”
I will give a copy of Eric’s GTO identification book to whoever buys this pristine Grand National. Eric was very well known in the GTO world at the national level. I would see him every year at the National events during the 1990s. As a matter of fact, we discussed his new book and what he needed it to say since he was using GM logos, etc.
The Grand National is now in his brother’s hand, Kirk White, in Florida. They have every single document with this car since it was new. Plus, they even have the original Window Sticker. They also have every single repair receipt. Over $12,000 was spent on the repaint and to freshening up this car.
It still smells new! A smell that no company as of yet has ever duplicated. If they did, Corvette owners would line up to buy it!
The Grand National has almost every single option. The actual mileage is less than 23,000 original miles. The car is 99% stock with the one exception being an aftermarket alarm system.
It has the stock powermaster brake system with the upgraded Cardone brake bowl. The car has used seat covers, which have protected the original seats. According to Kirk, he doesn’t believe anyone has ever sat in the back seat of this car.
This is a Kirban-quality car based in my numerous emails with Kirk and the fact I knew his brother from our mutual GTO connection for many years.
The new lowered price is $29,900. Keep in mind, receipts come with the car and the repaint totaled over $12,000. The repaint was only done because the car had such a poor paint job from the factory as many of them did.
NOTE - IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO SEE THE RARE PARTS SECTION -
If you are not able to see the Rare Parts section at the end of this Inner Circle, it is because you are not an Inner Circle member, but instead are reading this on the website. You must subscribe to see the Rare Parts section each week. It would go directly to your inbox every Wednesday afternoon. It is FREE, probably one reason why nobody complains about what I write about. Simply email - [email protected] - to get on our weekly Inner Circle email.

TIP FROM KIRBAN -
If you own a Grand National that has the original chrome wheels, make sure whenever you replace the tires that you talk directly to the person that is going to be mounting them. You want to make sure they do it properly to avoid having the tire machine put teeth marks on the chrome part of the wheel.
Also, remember it’s the side of the lug nuts that secure the center caps and not the lug nuts tightening up on the sides of the center caps.
TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

REPRODUCTION 8-HOLE MOLDED
UNDER HOOD INSULATOR LINER PAD (NO WORDING)
Over time, an original under hood (insulator liner) pad can deteriorate or rodents may have eaten holes in the material.
GM has not had the factory 9-hole molded hood pad available for several years. GM later made a 8-hole molded hood pad which eliminated the center back hole.
This hood pad is an exact reproduction of that GM 8-hole molded hood pad. A new mold was made from a brand new GM hood pad.
This molded hood pad does not have the wording on it, otherwise it is exact to the 8-hole style pad.
Whenever an original 9-hole hood pad with the wording are advertised on ebay, it brings big money.
NOTE - From time to time on the internet you can find a someone that has the pattern or decal for the exact wording, if you want it to look original.
Because they are oversized to ship, we have a flat shipping charge as shown. This item is shipped direct from the manufacturer to you. NOTE - We have a flat shipping rate, since the box is oversized.
*NOTE - Price includes the shipping and handling UPS Ground Shipping to 48 U.S. continental states.
Another excellent restoration item.

Reproduction UPPER RADIATOR INSULATORS/BUSHINGS (2)
Over time, radiator heat can cause the insulators to deteriorate.
These reproduction UPPER radiator insulators have the correct 62mm cut out for the stock 1984-1987 Turbo Regal radiators.
NOTE - You may have to stretch these slightly for various aftermarket radiators.
This is a critical part to secure the radiator under the top plate.
Another excellent replacement for any radiator or cooling system restoration.

Reproduction UPPER Radiator Insulators/Bushings (2) - $15.95

POWER ANTENNA UPGRADED STEEL CABLE REPAIR KIT
This is a brand new, improved, upgraded power antenna steel cable reproduction repair kit.
The plastic cable has been replaced with a steel cable. The end result is a superior cable that is not prone to break.
It will only work if the metal antenna mast is not damaged and the motor will not shut off unless it’s unplugged. If the motor works but the antenna mast does not go up and down, and the mast is not bent in any way, it means the internal plastic cable is broken or damaged due to age. Replacing it with this improved steel cable will solve the problem.
This is a new reproduction repair kit installing a steel (not plastic) internal cable, complete with installation directions. This kit is ONLY the internal cable. Your entire mast assembly MUST be intact and NOT bent. Your power antenna motor MUST still be in good working order for the power antenna to work once you install this new reproduction internal steel cable.
NOTE - We recommend you also purchase our Part #6976 - “1984-1987 Turbo Regal - Power Antenna Removal and Installation Guide” Book by Pete Serio
NOTE - Remember this is ONLY the internal steel cable to replace the plastic cable. The external metal mast and the power antenna motor on your car MUST be in good working order.

REBUILT ORIGINAL AC DELCO MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR
We are one of the very few sources to offer completely rebuilt original AC Delco mass air flow sensors for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.
New mass air flow sensors have been discontinued from AC Delco for several years.
Other available rebuilt units are rebuilt using late-model Camaro mass air flow sensors, not rebuilt from original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal cores like these.
When comparing ours to the various reproductions, it’s important to note that the original one has the “AC Delco” logo embossed on the top cover, which is visible on the car. Others may not have that feature. We have highlighted the embossed logo area with a red arrow in our first photo.
Ours are 100% correct mass air flow sensors with the proper plug, which came on the car originally.
Original parts will always be the top choice over any reproduction, especially for those wanting to keep their car original.
Sensor has the harness plug in the proper location and comes with a manufacturer’s 90-day Warranty.
NOTE - Supplies are limited, so call for availability - 215-766-1611 x 0.
7045 - 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Rebuilt Original AC DELCO Mass Air Flow Sensor - $195.
NOTE - If you send us your non-working original AC Delco mass air flow sensor(s) you will receive a Letter of Credit for $40 for each sensor. Unit must be an original AC Delco sensor. We depend on cores to continue to offer these rebuilt units.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
We are still enjoying mild weather in our area, which is unusual for this time of the year. Some of our flowers are still thriving!
Some great Pro football games Sunday. The Eagles keep winning and have the best record. The Chiefs pulled off a play I never seen before at the end of the first half that scored a touchdown. The real nail biter was the last few minutes of the Seahawks-Redskins game.

NOTE - You may have to stretch these slightly for various aftermarket radiators.
This is a critical part to secure the radiator under the top plate.
Another excellent replacement for any radiator or cooling system restoration.
