Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 08-05-2020 –
THE KID TURNS 50 TODAY - AUGUST 5TH -
The “kid” as I refer to him is our son Darrell. His birthday is actually today August 5th. Many of you long-time subscribers have seen some of his handy work in the Inner Circle... The time he surprised me and painted my 1964 GTO. A surprise he duplicated when he painted my 1987 blue Turbo-T. When he built the custom L88 hood for our Syclone and a power tailgate. When he carved the name “KIRBAN” in the dead tree trunk. He and Devyn built a lifesize Camaro in the snow, complete with functioning lights.. The 6-door Ford truck he built from 2 trucks complete with air suspension. The 1967 GTO he is in the midst of building that sits on a 2004-2006 GTO frame and drivetrain. The list goes on and on. His skill set has always been way ahead of mine. When I see a challenge, I pass it on to someone else to do!
What I would like you to do is to email him a Happy Birthday wish today. His email is - [email protected]
MEMORIES OF DARRELL GROWING UP -
This past week I have been jotting down notes on memories that I recall with Darrell. Prior to moving to our Sugar Bottom Road address we lived on a main highway, Route 611, in Willow Grove. It was about 4 houses up the road from a shopping center. I remember I had a go-kart and on Sundays the shopping center parking lot was usually fairly empty. I would take Darrell down the sidewalk on the go-kart to the shopping center and for about an hour we would race around the parking lot until the cops showed up. I often wondered if it was Eileen that called the cops.
We moved to our Sugar Bottom location when he was about 3 or 4. My brother-in-law who was handy with carpentry built a nice sandbox for Darrell, complete with a roof over it. He loved the sandbox. Problem would later develop when we got a few stray cats. They saw the sandbox as a huge community litter box! We had to make sure Darrell washed his hands when he came in the house, then built a cover.
In the summer I would take him with me to car shows as I was usually a vendor and would sell GTO parts. I would put a sign around his neck and he would walk around the swap meet. In some cases he would help a friend of mine arrange his parts. This friend still remembers this to this day and reminds Darrell.
I remember one time that really made Eileen upset. I took young Darrell to a car show and swap meet that was about 30 miles from our house. I had a mint 1965 Riviera that I planned to sell. My plan unfortunately did not include what would happen if I got a cash buyer. How would I get home? It turned out I did sell the Riviera and now had the dilemma of getting back home with my son? Well, we did what most guys would do back in the 1970s. I hitchhiked! Took a few hours but we made it home safely.
Darrell has had some close brushes with death. One time a hunter shot a rifle from the field across the street from our house. The bullet went through Darrell's bedroom window and lodged in the wall just above his bed. We never were able to find out who or how that happened. Fortunately he was away at the time.
In his youth he had one of the 3-wheel trikes, a high-powered one. One night riding through a field he hit a huge buck. The buck died instantly and Darrell escaped with only minor cuts and bruises.
I remember when I was buying GTOs. As Darrell neared the magic age of 16, I got him a 1967 Lemans. I had a good friend put a motor in it for him. One day near our house he fell asleep coming home and wrecked the Lemans.
I had recently sold Eileen's 1968 GTO to a customer of ours in New Jersey. I contacted him and asked him would he be interested in selling it back to me so Darrell could restore it? He readily agreed and Darrell’s second car was a 1968 GTO that his Mom used to own.
When Darrell was in 11th or 12th grade I remember we had a customer drive down frequently from New York and buy Turbo parts from us. He worked at Nestles, the candy company in New York. He would bring down cases of candy. I would give some of the cases to Darrell to take to tech school and he would sell the candy to his classmates. I figured this was a good teaching lesson on how to make a few bucks and make a lot of friends.
Within a few days the principle called us up and said this is not allowed. I guess the school did not want competition with their candy vending machines!
Some of my best memories were at our old house on Sugar Bottom Road during the later years. We had a badminton court built outside, complete with a light for nighttime games. The court was built with loose gravel. Once again our outside cats thought it was a litter box. We used $100 badminton rackets as badminton was a serious game at the Kirbans. The kid was seldom on my side as together we were almost unbeatable. Many of you remember Trey Crease and Pete Serio the original “Window Rattle Guy.” Both Trey and Pete were very accomplished badminton players. It could be 20 degrees outside and we would still play.
I never have seen Darrell get angry or frustrated. No project ever seems too big for him. I admire his ability to always stay calm and in control.
It is a real blessing that Darrell, Carrie, and Devyn live next door to us.
Happy 50th Birthday Kid!
PHOTO 1 - The top left photo shows me holding a very young Darrell. This would be at our Willow Grove house. The car is a 1940s Packard we had. The top right photo shows Darrell standing on the back of our 1947 Studebaker ramp truck. The bottom left photo shows Darrell with me at one of the swap meets selling GTO parts. The bottom middle photo shows the clay project he made for me in tech school. The bottom right photo shows Darrell last weekend enjoying boating weather.
A FEW MORE USED AND NEW 1986 AND 1987 TURBO REGAL PARTS -
Over the next few weeks we will be featuring many unusual items associated with the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal, the 1989 Turbo Trans Am and the 2004-2006 GTO. Over the last 2 weeks we have been trying to work a deal on a good size inventory of parts this one individual accumulated over the years before his untimely death.
He did at one time own a new 1987 Grand National, a late model GTO and a 1989 Turbo Trans Am. One of his friends knew a good friend of mine and that is how I was able to make the deal happen. The owner was a top notch Mercedes Benz mechanic. He is also in the Mechanics Hall of Fame. Mercedes would fly him anywhere in the country on difficult projects. Ironically I did find among the Turbo Regal items one of our parts still in the clear bag with our directions. He was possibly a customer of ours at one time.
He had some great connections. I say that because it was amazing at some of the items he collected that I passed on purchasing. One example, was he had over 50 of the late model GTO radios each in a box with the code written on the outside of the box. I would not live long enough to sell over 50 of those radios! Also I passed on at least 8 original spare tires for the late model GTOs and an equal number of the jack and the tray they sat in. Also several rear spoilers and steering wheels.
I bought a lot of literature for the 1989 Turbo Trans Am and the 2004-2006 GTOs. The collection does not have much variety, but in almost every case there are multiples of the same item. It is amazing how many factory 1986-1987 Turbo Regal air cleaner assemblies I bought. They all look like they came off a brand new car. See the Rare Parts section for prices on the items that we have pictured under Photo 2 and Photo 3. If you know anyone with a 2004 through 2006 GTO give them my email [email protected] as I probably have every manual and dealer brochure GM put out on those cars. All brand new.
Any more it is very difficult to find parts for these cars. It has been sometime since I last bought a cache of parts like I did last week.
PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows 4 different factory sealed Turbo Trans Am models. The top right photo shows 1 brand new factory 2004-2006 GTO 17 inch wheel with the center cap. I have a full set of these. The bottom left photo shows the 2005 Pontiac GTO Volume 1 and Volume 2 Service Manuals. The bottom right photo shows a brand new 1986-1987 Turbo Regal AC Delco air cleaner filter.
PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows a 1984-1985 Turbo Regal air cleaner and air duct with mass air sensor all intact. Would almost pass for brand new. The top right photo shows a complete air box assembly and mounting bracket, sensor with elbow and air duct for a 1986-1987 Turbo Regal. Again would pass for brand new. The bottom left photo shows a brand new factory 1986-1987 Turbo Regal air duct with 3 brand new original intercooler hoses. The bottom right photo shows a brand new still shrink wrapped 1989 Turbo Trans Am service manual supplement.
Everything pictured in Photo 2 and 3 can be found under the Rare Parts section for sale.
2005 ASTORIA MOTORHOME - FOR SALE
About 3 miles from our house I spotted this 2005 Astoria MotorHome for sale. It is in remarkable condition with only 39,000 miles on it. Two owners. The second owner has owned it for about seven years and is upgrading to a bigger one. This one sleeps 7. It has not been smoked in nor have any pets been in it. Perhaps most remarkable is the owner told me everyone always removed their shoes prior to stepping on the carpets. The interior is like new.
It sits on a truck chassis powered by a 300 Cummins engine. The RV has an air ride suspension. With the current virus situation RVs have become quite popular. The price tag is $49,949. Contact Tom at 610-416-1632 or email is [email protected]
PHOTO 4 - We show four views of this 2005 Astoria Motorhome. It has a pull out section on both sides. It has never been hit.
TWO NEW PARTS COMING NEXT WEEK -
We will be carrying the complete set of stainless transmission lines for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. Also we will have the installation kit for the dual fan setup we have been selling. No holes to drill in your car. The bracket will secure the base of the dual fan setup flush to the radiator. The bracket is made from ⅛ inch thick aluminum. The dual fan setup is a much needed upgrade.
THE SUPPLY CHAIN IS STILL VASTLY DISRUPTED -
We are still experiencing difficulty obtaining certain parts. For example, even having several sources we have not been able to buy any upper or lower radiator hoses in the last several weeks. Pypes exhaust systems and cold case radiators may not have any inventory until October. Weatherstrips are still several weeks out. Brake bowls I have been given 3 different delivery dates from our supplier. I am sure other vendors are having the same issues. The virus continues to have an effect on the supply chain especially for items that come from overseas.
The only constant is we still are able to send you our weekly Inner Circle every Wednesday!

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet.

Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING – Remember if you have any NOS or good used parts you do not need consider selling to us or trade for parts we have for your project.
