OUR WEBSITE UPDATE -

The company that handles our website has now switched to a new server so previous problems we've been having over the last week should be eliminated. Should be trouble free now!

Our website has been fixed and is back to operating normally!

MADE IN ENGLAND AND THE TURBO REGALS -

It always seemed unusual to me that the Turbo Regal has a unique radiator cap with no ears and says on the cap “Made in England”. This radiator cap was used for several years and then later ones I have found on various Buick models were identical except no longer had the words “Made in England” on them.

What many owners may not realize is that the original AC Delco oil filter also contained the words “Made in England” on the actual oil filter. The original oil filter I believe it was painted black when the car was new. Early replacement AC Delco oil filters were blue and the label stated “Made in England.” This reminds me of in the early days of the Turbo Trans Am Production it was possible to buy replacement AC Delco plug wires with the 20th Anniversary imprint on the plug wires. This was a short lived time period.

We are all familiar with the original black brake switch that was recalled early on after production ceased at some point in 1987 and replaced with the AC Delco grey brake switch. Another difficult original item to find today is the front license plate bracket. This bracket along with a pair of plastic spacers was simply put in a brown manila envelope with a printed part number on it and tucked in the side of the trunk by the rear quarter panel. It may be possible to still find it today in various Turbo Regals if a previous owner never discovered it! Reminds me of one of the cars I own. I have a foreign car with 258,000 miles on it and all original paint. Spare and jack were never used, All the manuals are in the glovebox including the original window sticker and the most surprising thing is in the back seat it has a center fold down armrest with two cup holders and the clear plastic to protect the two cup holders has NEVER been removed! Car is a 2008 model.

PHOTO 1 - The top left photo shows all 4 of these rare items. The top right shows a full set of original used intercooler hoses with 2 NOS foam wastegate filters, and one brand new original radiator bottle cap. The bottom left photo shows part of an original boost line with the 2 critical original plastic fittings and 2 NOS foam wastegate solenoid filters. The bottom right photo shows a completely repainted original 1986-1987 air cleaner assembly with a new K & N filter included. All these items are listed for sale under the Rare Parts section.

PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows a super nice used 1986-1987 oil fill cap and tube. Also an original Nov 1991 GM Production Options booklet. The top right photo shows 3 various 1986-1987 Turbo Regal throttle bodies. The bottom left photo shows a brand new 1:18 scale XRAY GNX. The bottom right photo shows a brand new 1:18 1986 T-Type Designer series complete with window sticker. These four items can be found under the Rare Parts section.

THE UNUSUAL -

The person that builds all our alternators sometimes does estate buys. He recently obtained a Jazzy Select electric wheelchair made by Pride. This model can handle up to 300lbs. He completely serviced it by buying a new battery charger, replacing both 12 volt batteries with new top of the line Interstate batteries. It is literally in mint condition, appears to have hardly been used and doesn't appear to ever have been used outdoors. Capable of speeds up to 6 mph. The wheelchair can go approximately 15 miles on a full charge depending on the person's weight. Seat has no rips and is adjustable up and down and swivels. Designed for indoor use it has a quick turning radius making it ideal for in home use.

They retail new for about $5,000. This is about 4-5 years old he estimates. The price is just $1500. For more info contact me directly by email [email protected] The first two photos in Photo 3 show this Jazzy power wheelchair. Located near my location.

I made a discovery the other day in the Turbo Limited we got in. With the car we got an extra set of original pillow style seats. In photo 3 we show the back side of the one front seat. It appears Buick used a piece of the burgundy material to close up the gap under the one seat against a blue interior! I guess nothing was left to waste during assembly!

My son as many of you know has done a wide variety of body, collison work, and restoration work over the years both with cars and boats. In photo 3 we show a huge roller that was damaged on a job site that he had to repair.

PHOTO 3 - The top left and top right photo show this like new Jazzy electric wheelchair that our friend is selling. Made by Pride it is in excellent ready to use condition. Why pay $5,000 when for $1500 this is virtually like new. The bottom left photo shows the underside of one of the front pillow seats for a Turbo Regal Limited. You can clearly see Buick used a section of burgundy material to secure the original blue material to the bottom of the seat cushion. I can only assume this was done at Buick. The bottom right photo shows this huge roller that Darrell had to do some repair work to. After Darrell repaired it he used it to flatten parts of their lawn!

BATMOBILE KIT CAR -

There are body shops that do collision work, then you have restoration shops that work strictly on restoring cars. Then you got companies that do boat repairs and shops that do custom work on boats. Darrell and Carrie under the name of Kirban Customs have mastered the business of combining all those businesses under one roof! He has painted over a dozen of the million dollar DB4 and DB5 Aston Martins. Built a 6 door F-650 Ford truck, Built a 1967 Lemans that sits on a 2005/2006 GTO chassis, drivetrain, and interior. He has repaired a late model Chevy truck that was specially built for a handicap where the side door came down so a wheelchair could ride up and in the truck. This truck had been hit by that special unique door. His latest accomplishment can be seen in photo 4. The complete body work, paint and custom touches of a batmobile kit car. Darrell mounted the windshields, corrected fitment of the doors, as well as mounting the unique grill work on the front and back. The red stripes and door and wheel “bats” are all painted. The drivetrain for the batmobile is a 1979 Lincoln Town car. The car came from California so rust was minimal. Engine is a 400M.

According to the owner, Paul Curtis, the basic kit cost $8500. That is just for the body Darrell had to do everything else regarding the windshield, door fitment etc. According to the owner 3 different companies make the kit today. Only one is fully licensed by DC comics to build them. These sell for about $300,000 each. That company has built about 25 and only does turnkey examples. He plans to only build about 5 more and is then retiring. The owner of the car that Darrell did figures that maybe 100 exist in various stages of quality around the world.

PHOTO 4 - Here are 4 photos of the finished Batmobile. The owner said his kit car sits on a late 1979 Lincoln Town Car.

1987 GRAND NATIONAL HARDTOP FOR SALE -

Just got word earlier today from one of my long-time customers (1989?) is going to sell his 1987 Grand National hardtop. Purchased used way back in 1988 and always garaged. Car has been to many of our open house events when he resided in our area. Car is now located in NC. Richard Clark performed some maintenance work on this Grand National 2 years ago and Pete Hoffman also installed the window rattle kits. Richard drove the car every day to lunch and got many compliments about the car. At that time Richard Clark put the real value of this car based on condition north of 30 grand! Plus the SPID trunk label was signed by Molly not once but twice! This is rare as he was at two of our Open House events with the last one in 2007.

He has the original window sticker and some of the paint is original. Car has had extremely great care. Mileage is 175,000. Runs strong. Transmission was rebuilt. New Cold Case radiator was installed.

Here is a list of the factory options in this remarkable Grand National. Front seat reading lamps, power door locks, power windows, electric trunk release, protective body side molding, 6-way power driver's seat, power antenna,s limited slip rear, AM/FM stock radio, cruise control, tilt wheel, concert sound speakers, rear defogger, tinted windows, and analog dash. Window sticker shows it sold for $17,7XX.

Upgrades include: Cold Case radiator, translator, and LT1 mass air sensor. Mass air pipe. Also RJC power plate, Kirban connecting front brace, front frame brace set, rear seat braces, and under the hood braces. Upgraded fuel pump, body bushings, low fuel warning, KYB shocks, custom made stainless dual exhaust system with flow master mufflers. New serpentine belt, coil pack, spark plugs, etc. Also a new gas tank.

The interior is in remarkable condition and shows virtually no wear at all. The fact this interior including the driver's seat is extremely nice shows the car has always had good care. All the braces he had installed years ago which goes a long way in keeping the car tight. He even has the key punch outs as well. The fact he has owned it since 1988, maintained it, kept it mostly stock, garaged it all these years, and has the window sticker makes this example a very worthy car to consider buying. You would be hard pressed to find a better example of a 1987 Grand National hardtop for this price and has been maintained as well as this car has had all these years. Perhaps most remarkable with 175,000 miles it still has the powermaster brake setup functioning on his car!

The price is $27,900 OBO. For more info and photos email me directly [email protected] Remember the same one owner since 1988!!!! We have a lot more photos we can provide if you are interested.

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN IT HAPPENED - PART THREE

Traveling through Missouri and low on money I decided that one option was to pick up a hitchhiker and have him chip in for the fuel costs. At some point I picked up a guy hitchhiking with a huge bag of his belongings. Traveling on Route 66 and heading towards Texas through Oklahoma. At some point outside I believe of Oklahoma City I was trying to think of a way to
part ways with him. I can’t recall why but I did not want his company any more. Fortunately he gave me an opportunity when he wanted to stop at a laundromat and wash his clothes.
When that opportunity presented itself and simply dropped him off and made some sort of excuse and took off! My mistake was during our conversations he knew my name and called my parents collect and said I had robbed him and my Mom being a soft touch they sent him money. At this point my Dad realized I was traveling on Route 66 and was calculating where I would be based on when they got this call from this hitchhiker. I remember stopping at that world famous steak house in Amarillo Texas that if you could eat their huge steak it was free. All I could afford as I sat there was a bowl of soup. By this time I was getting extremely tired having driven several thousand miles and now facing miles of open road on route 66 heading into New Mexico. By Saturday morning I was about 5-10 miles east of Gallup, New Mexico when a State Trooper pulled up as I had stopped along the highway to eat some food I had prepared.

Within a few minutes of being stopped I knew my road trip was over being 16 years old and driving a new car with Pennsylvania plates and during a school year! I was taken into Gallup and put in jail. Back in 1963 Gallup was a very small old town. I had my own jail cell. A phone call was made to my folks. They were relieved that I was caught. My Dad booked a flight to come get me. I spent I think 3 days in jail waiting for my Dad to arrive. The entire time I am thinking I am in deep trouble. Once my Dad came I was released in his custody. The next obstacle was arranging my Ford to be transported back home. It was decided it would be shipped back by rail in a box car! The down side was the nearest town it could properly be unloaded to where we live was in Bath, Pennsylvania. This was about 50 miles from where we lived. The cost back in the fall of 1963 to transport the car was $515.00. I remember that as if it was yesterday. Unknown to me at the time my Dad was computing all the costs, airfare, his time, etc that this escapade had cost him. Strange but true but when we got home later that week my Dad actually lent me his Thunderbird so I could visit my girlfriend. His parting words this time don’t go so far!

I was not yelled at nor grounded although basically I was grounded since my Ford traveling by box car would not get back to Pennsylvania until about a week prior to Christmas. My one buddy would drive me to Bath, Pennsylvania to pick up my Ford. I was presented with a bill for the entire escape. It cost me several thousand dollars. I can recall seeing this bill in my collection of stuff as recently as a few years ago and each time I made a payment the amount I owed became less. Back in 1963 a few thousand was a lot of money to a 16 year old. School was a whole other matter. Every teacher gave me a zero for each day I missed. It's one thing to pull up a failing grade but pulling up a zero when you were not a good student to start with is a huge undertaking. So that next summer I ended up attending summer school for biology at another school. Our school had less than 100 students in my class. Nobody in my class had
ever done a stunt like this. I was like a hero. Yes when I got the car back I was able to drive every day to school. This is probably the only car I ever owned that I never took good care of.

Many years later around 2003 time frame I would take a trip around the USA leaving after the GS Nationals in a 1999 Corvette fixed roof coupe. I would stop at that same steak house in Amarillo and have more than just the soup. I would stop in Gallup. Went into the police station which was fairly new and I asked where the police station was in 1963. They pointed me to a parking lot across the street. I drove over to the parking lot and called my folks and told them I was standing in the same spot the Gallup, New Mexico Police station was back in 1963. I had come full cycle.

Next week will tell an interesting story I did in my senior year that you would never ever be allowed to do today due to insurance rules for school property etc.

We discovered that FedEx will not forward any packages that are sent to the old PO Box or to our old address in Plumsteadville. Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside or send them back to the shipper. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.

If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use FedEx. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
REBUILT ORIGINAL AC DELCO MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR

We are one of the very few sources to offer completely rebuilt original AC Delco mass air flow sensors for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. New mass air flow sensors have been discontinued from AC Delco for several years.

Other available rebuilt units are rebuilt using late-model Camaro mass air flow sensors, not rebuilt from original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal cores like these.

When comparing ours to the various reproductions, it’s important to note that the original one has the “AC Delco” logo embossed on the top cover, which is visible on the car. Others may not have that feature. We have highlighted the embossed logo area with a red arrow in our first photo.

Ours are 100% correct original mass air flow sensors with the proper plug, which came on the car originally.
Original parts will always be the top choice over any reproduction, especially for those wanting to keep their car original.

Sensor has the harness plug in the proper location and comes with a manufacturer’s 90-day Warranty.

NOTE - Supplies are limited, so call for availability.

1984-1987 Regal -
LOCK PILLAR REINFORCEMENT PLATES (2) IN STOCK FOR IMMEDIATE DELIVERY

This 2mm thick spacer is designed to give the door pin more support.

If you look at the area where the striker is attached, more than likely you will see hairline cracks. They are spot welds that hold a cage nut so you can attach the door striker. These spot welds tend to take the place of one of the 2mm spacers and at the same time give the door striker more support.

This lock pillar reinforcement plate is shaped to look as if it came on the car from the factory. The reinforcement plate measures approximately 4″ x 5″, comes powder-coated glossy black for a lasting finish (glossy black will blend with most dark colors doors and all the Grand Nationals), and are sold as a pair. Plates are easy to install.

It’s interesting to note that GM actually had a recall on another Buick model, the Somerset, back in 1985 for having a similar problem. Their solution at the time was similar to these reinforcement plates.

NOTE - You may also be interested in a related item - #6776 GM Door Strikers (2).

Another excellent replacement for any interior restoration.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
AFTERMARKET EPA CERTIFIED LOW RESTRICTIVE STOCK CATALYTIC CONVERTER

Many owners may want to replace the original pancake-style restrictive catalytic converter. This is a unique catalytic converter with the proper custom-made 4-bolt flange at the back end. The overall length is 18 inches. This is a direct bolt in replacement and similar to the one we offered over 20 years ago. This only works with the stock 2-1/2 inch diameter downpipe.

It will bolt up to the stock exhaust or to the Pypes Dual Exhaust system, Part #6996, we sell.

Original catalytic converters can easily become clogged over a long period of time. They are also a lot more restrictive due to its pancake style. Some states have very strict laws regarding emissions equipment, even on older cars.

This catalytic converter also can lower any drone sound the current mufflers may make.

We offer this low restrictive catalytic converter, which weighs less than 8 pounds and is EPA certified! It is not a universal converter, but one with the correct 4-bolt flange on the one end that will directly bolt into your Turbo Regal.

With the amount of heat turbo cars develop, the converter can begin to break down internally and clog the exhaust system.

The EPA rules dictate that replacement catalytic converters must go in the same location as the original converter. This unit bolts into that same area and has the same mounting flange.

This catalytic converter comes complete with the 4-bolt exhaust flange. This 4-bolt flange is very unique to these cars as no other G-body application has this style flange. We also offer the 4-bolt flange, Part #7947, by itself for those of you that may want to get a test pipe made for off road use only.

Another excellent replacement for any exhaust restoration.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again.
Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

Remember the weekly Inner Circle always goes out at 3 pm eastern time so subscribers all have the same equal chance on the Rare Parts. All our parts generally are priced to sell and below what others offer. Also our used items are exactly as described. Emails are acknowledged in the order we receive them regardless of when I respond as I am not always by a computer and I only use a flip phone. It's best to email as soon as possible as many of our items sell within the first hour! Do not call the office on the listed Rare Parts as you could lose out by someone beating you with an email.
