Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 09-20-2017 -
HERE IS A RARE TURBO REGAL PART FIND -
At least for me, this Turbo Regal part is a rare find. We recently purchased a brand new in the GM box mass air flow sensor for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal. According to my 1987 Buick Dealer Parts and Accessory book, the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal mass air flow sensor listed for $216.17 back in December of 1987. See the Rare Parts section for price of this rare NOS GM part.
PHOTO 1 - Here we show the brand new 1986-1987 GM mass air flow sensor complete with the GM box. The insert states what torque to tighten the two bolts to secure it to the bracket on your factory air cleaner box.
REPORT FROM EAST COAST BUICK REGIONALS -
The weather both days for the East Coast Buick Regionals was picture perfect. The unofficial count of show cars was reported at just over 100. A high number of T-Types and Turbo-Ts were on the show field. I saw several unusual color combinations.
There was even a white 1987 Turbo-T there that had just 50 codes and was noted as having the lowest number of codes according to Dennis Kirban. My car has 52 codes. This car was also white and ironically has about the same number of miles on it that I have - 82,000.
My good friend Jason Maxfield made the almost 800-mile one-way trip from Canada to come to the East Coast Buick Regionals and take me to dinner. G-Body Parts was also at this event for the first time as a vendor. He had his new 19 and 20 inch GNX-style wheels on display.
In photo 2 below we show some of the cars that were at this event.
PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows this really nice Buick Sport wagon. The top right shows one of the heaviest Buick race cars at the event, a vintage Riviera. The bottom left shows a rare Gran Sport Century Buick. The bottom right shows the low-optioned white 1987 Turbo-T. Note the clever license plate, “SMOKIN6.”
MY SECOND TEST CAR WAS AT THE EAST COAST BUICK REGIONALS -
I was treated to a rare surprise when I saw a blue on blue 1987 Turbo-T sporting Massachusetts tags get parked opposite my vendor spot at the show. I knew almost instantly that it was my old test car #2 which I sold sometime around 2004 or 2005. This was verified by the PA inspection sticker that Dan, the owner, has left on the windshield.
The car was just completed by Richard Clark’s Garage and Steve V’s Automotive. Steve is a GN automatic transmission specialist and a ASE Master Technician. The owner, Dan, was going to take it back to Massachusetts. The car looked outstanding. I had forgotten some of the neat upgrades that I had done to the Turbo-T when I had it. This was probably the first or one of the earliest Turbo-T cars to get Richard Clark’s reproduction GNX suspension. Richard had done several Grand Nationals prior to my car being one of the first Turbo-T models. Matter of fact, Richard personally installed it in my car. I also had the top-of-the-line am/fm CD player with the EQ option installed. The Limited dash trim plate installed over the glove box lights up, it had the. Cadillac passenger power seat, and the chrome trim on the brake pedal and gas pedal. Plus, we had the Baer bigger front brake calipers installed along with Bilstein shocks.
PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows our number #2 test car, 1987 Turbo-T blue on blue with the blackout option. The top right photo shows the rare later GM am/fm CD player with the EQ option. The bottom left photo shows the chrome trim around the brake pedal, emergency pedal, and the gas pedal. The bottom right photo shows the ultra rare power passenger seat. This was an original Florida car which had zero rust.
INTERESTING MEMORY -
Among the individual vendors in the swap meet at the East Coast Buick Regionals, was Kelly from Virginia. He had a few boxes of items for sale, including a copy of my “Kirban Guide to 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regals.” I told him I would autograph my book so it would add to the value to the sale. He then showed me something he wanted to give me.
He still had in the original envelope from February 1997, the letter and pictures of 3 different Turbo Regals I had sent him that I had for sale at the time. In the letter to him I said I would like the photos back. Well, he kept his word, 20 years later and gave me back the photos!
PHOTO 4 - The top left photo we show the actual 6 by 9 envelope. The top right shows a rare grey Turbo T Limited I had for sale. The bottom left photo shows an equally impressive 1987 burgundy Turbo-T. The bottom right shows a 1986 or 1987 Grand National I had for sale. Boy, it sure would be nice if I still had those cars today. In case you’re wondering, the red car in the background in the second photo is my wife’s Z3 roadster, which was the M version and the black 5 series was a rare first year 540 6-speed BMW that I had back then.

They have never been used and have the correct offset for a real GNX so they sit correctly under the fender flares. The price is $3,495 for the set of 4, plus shipping which would run $150 to $175 depending on your location. For more information, and photos email me direct [email protected]
PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE COMMISSION -
Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is very slow to remove more than 1,000 land line emergency roadside call boxes along the Pennsylvania turnpike. With cell phones being common place among almost all drivers, they have become basically obsolete. It is reported that it will save about $250,000 per year!
With that amount of savings, it makes you wonder what else could be cut to save Pennsylvania taxpayers more money!
COMING NEXT WEEK - MINI CONTEST-
Next week there will be another mini contest to test the knowledge of our readers. I bought an item last week and figured it would make a neat contest. Watch for details next week.
AMAZING RECORDS SET IN BASEBALL -
If you follow baseball, the Cleveland Indians just wrapped up an astounding 22 wins in a row. Closer to home, the Philadelphia Phillies (who have probably been in last place since week one of the 2017 season), have match in reverse the same win/loss record as Washington has in first place. The one bright spot in the Phillies lineup has been rookie Rhys Hoskins who has hit 18 home runs in just his first 34 games since his call up from Triple-A. He has accomplished this home run rampage quicker than any other rookie in baseball. He’s definitely in a hitting groove.
I don’t follow baseball as a rule, but I do follow pro football. This goes back to my days when I was younger and my Dad and I would watch the games every Sunday. We continued this routine even as we got older. He didn’t have any team favorite, just enjoyed the close games. As my Dad got older, he would sometimes nod off after a big dinner at Olive Garden. I miss those times.
UPGRADED LOWER STEERING SHAFTS -
We just got in several more of these refurbished desirable lower steering shafts. If you want one of these lower steering shafts, email me direct - [email protected]
1987 GRAND NATIONAL FOR SALE -
I am representing this 1987 Grand National hardtop for sale for the owner who resides in Florida. This car is at the top of the value chain and is, without any doubt, one of the best. It has been in the same family since it was new. The original owner bought it when he was single. Soon after, with a growing family, it became evident the Grand National was not a practical car, so he sold it to his brother who I have known for probably 20 years. His brother recently passed away and that is why the car is back down in Florida.
It has been made better than new. When I say better than new, it is mainly due to the fact it has had a very high-dollar repaint applied and everything has been freshened up.
I knew the brother that passed away quite well, since he was heavily involved with GTOs and even wrote a very detailed book on GTOs that is still sold today. He also had a GTO and was a very meticulous individual. His name was Eric White. The book he wrote years ago was titled, “GTOAA of America Pontiac GTO, GT-37 Illustrated Identification Guide.”
I will give a copy of Eric’s GTO identification book to whoever buys this pristine Grand National. Eric was very well known in the GTO world at the national level. I would see him every year at the National events during the 1990s. As a matter of fact, we discussed his new book and what he needed it to say since he was using GM logos, etc.
The Grand National is now in his brother’s hand, Kirk White, in Florida. They have every single document with this car since it was new. Plus, they even have the original Window Sticker. They also have every single repair receipt. Over $12,000 was spent on the repaint and to freshening up this car.
It still smells new! A smell that no company as of yet has ever duplicated. If they did, Corvette owners would line up to buy it!
The Grand National has almost every single option. The actual mileage is less than 23,000 original miles. The car is 99% stock with the one exception being an aftermarket alarm system.
It has the stock powermaster brake system with the upgraded Cardone brake bowl. The car has used seat covers, which have protected the original seats. According to Kirk, he doesn’t believe anyone has ever sat in the back seat of this car.
This is a Kirban-quality car based in my numerous emails with Kirk and the fact I knew his brother from our mutual GTO connection for many years.
The new lowered price is $29,900. Keep in mind, receipts come with the car and the repaint totaled over $12,000. The repaint was only done because the car had such a poor paint job from the factory as many of them did.

If you are not able to see the Rare Parts section at the end of this Inner Circle, it is because you are not an Inner Circle member, but instead are reading this on the website. You must subscribe to see the Rare Parts section each week. It would go directly to your inbox every Wednesday afternoon. It is FREE, probably one reason why nobody complains about what I write about.

URGENT NEED FOR CORRECT STEERING WHEEL CORES -
We have an urgent need for correct 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheel cores that are not bent. They can have minor rust on the spokes but cannot be pitted. If you owe us a steering wheel core, please send it in to get your core deposit back.
In order for us to continue this service, we have had to raise the core price. Without cores, owners can’t get a redone leather-wrapped steering wheel. Help us continue this needed service. We now issue a Letter of Credit for $100, if you have a correct 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheel core.
EMAILS TO KIRBAN PERFORMANCE -

TIP FROM KIRBAN -
For those that end up tucking your car away for the winter, be sure to fill your gas tank with the highest octane possible.
Be sure to use some sort of protection to keep rodents away. Adopt a cat or two. The damage they can do far outweigh the cost of cat food over the winter months. We have 5 cats that personally guard our cars.
TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -
If you have a tip or a discovery that you found that works on your Turbo Regal, drop us an email giving us the details so we can pass the info on to our readers. Remember, even with my knowledge, I don’t know it all. Simply email me at - [email protected]

CUSTOMIZED BUICK TAILLIGHT LED WALL DISPLAY -
CHROME EDGE OR PLAIN
During one of my many trips to various junkyards, this idea recently came to me. It’s a cool way to offer an actual original Buick part that you can personalize in the section for a license plate.
Some of you probably save you old license plates or mementos from a previous car. Now you can mount your old license plate or logo plate in this unique wall display. Better yet, you can insert a picture of you and your pride and joy in that space (see photos.) The ideas are endless.
We purchase original taillight assemblies from used Buick Regal or Century models. Both taillight assemblies are vintage early 2000 models. These are not easy to find in perfect condition.
Each taillight assembly is pre-wired with 6 LED bulbs and a 9-volt battery with a switch. Hanging hardware is attached and the display comes ready to hang on the wall. You can light it up in your garage or work shop.
Each taillight assembly has been polished and cleaned. Display piece measures approximately 38" wide and weighs about 5 lbs.
We offer two versions. The version with the chrome edge (#KE-018) is from a Buick Century model. The plain version shown without the chrome edge (#KE-019) is from a Buick Regal.
NOTE- Some assemblies may have the Regal model or Century emblem still on the surface. It can easily be removed, since it is merely stuck on.
Our photos show both versions and 4 different ideas on what to put in the section where the license plate would normally go.
Here is a unique way to have something that you can personalize to your liking, and know that it is not something that has been mass produced since it is made from an original Buick part.
The top photo shows the wall display lit. The lower photos show ideas on how the license plate area can be personalized with a license plate or photo.
Our second photo shows the wall displays without any insert.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

The new lowered price is $29,900. Keep in mind, receipts come with the car and the repaint totaled over $12,000. The repaint was only done because the car had such a poor paint job from the factory as many of them did.
NOTE - IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO SEE THE RARE PARTS SECTION -
If you are not able to see the Rare Parts section at the end of this Inner Circle, it is because you are not an Inner Circle member, but instead are reading this on the website. You must subscribe to see the Rare Parts section each week. It would go directly to your inbox every Wednesday afternoon. It is FREE, probably one reason why nobody complains about what I write about.
Simply email - [email protected] to get on our weekly Inner Circle email.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
