MAY CARTOON -
PHOTO 1 - Our first photo shows this month’s “The Adventures of Tommy Turbo” cartoon. It solves the issue of not having enough powermaster brake units on hand for when yours develops an issue. The caption reads, “I’VE GOT PLENTY OF POWERMASTERS TO KEEP MY CAR ON THE ROAD!”
THE END OF AN ERA -
Locally, to us one of the companies we have dealt with since 1969, Wolverton's Welding, is closing up shop and Jim is retiring.
It was first operated by Jim Wolverton's father, who started the welding business in 1954. Jim, who is two years older than me, was his father's helper until he took over 45 years ago.
I first started going there in 1969 whenever anything would break on my tow trucks. At that time we lived in Warminster, PA. Later when we expanded our business, they fabricated various parts for us. They made us BMW parts, Mustang parts, as well as Turbo Regals parts.
PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows the original metal building that was first used starting in 1954. The top right shows the newer building that the business was last operated in. The lower left photo shows the house that Jim was raised in that was built in the late 1800s and is still on the property. The lower right shows Jim last week as he was closing up shop. The property has been sold.
REMOTE POWER STEERING RESERVOIRS -
It’s occurred to me since I been going to these various You Pull It Yards that it appears GM only used a remote power steering reservoir on certain Buick models only. In all the GM cars I have looked at built during the 1980s, and 1990s, I can’t recall seeing another GM car that used a remote power steering reservoir. I may be wrong, but if it was it certainly was not used in any of the popular GM models. I have discovered several remote power steering reservoirs in GM front wheel drive vans, both metal and plastic.
The ones GM used in the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals are plastic and as some owners have found out it can easily be broken. This sometimes happen when engines are removed to be rebuilt and something bumps the reservoir attached to the inner fender and the next thing you know it’s cracked.
GM used 2 versions during the 1986-1987 time frame. The 1986 fill cap has the wording silk screened on it. On the 1987 version, the wording is raised on the cap and has an arrow showing the direction to open it which is opposite on how the 1986 cap is removed. The updated version the cap is not interchangeable with the original 1986 Turbo Regal remote power steering reservoir.
According to the Dealer Service Bulletin dated Nov 87 Bulletin # 87-3-15, the problem with the first design lead to complaints about a moan or a groan. This would happen when the car owner was parking the car. (I think most Fords make this same noise!) The solution was this new version of the remote power steering reservoir Part #25531140 and a new feed and return hose. Since this Bulletin was dated Nov 87, that means some of the early 1987 Turbo Regals would have been built with the old-style remote power steering reservoir.
According to what I have read, Buick used the #25531140 remote power steering reservoir on the following Buick models: LeSabre Wagons 1988-1990, Estate Wagons 1985-1989, Turbo Regals 1985-1987, LeSabre 1985, Riviera 1985, and Skylark 1985 models. I have not seen any of these cars in the yards to verify this. Even if the years noted are accurate, most of them are prior to 1987 and may not have the later version remote power steering reservoir. This could possibly be true because the Dealer Service Bulletin only lists the models affected as the 1986 and early 1987 Regal T-Types. It says nothing about the other five Buick models that have a remote power steering reservoir.
PHOTO 3 - The photo on the left shows the front side of the actual Dealer Service Bulletin dated March 15, 1987, related to the power steering noise entitled, POWER STEERING NOISE DURING PARKING. The photo on the right shows the illustration of the newer version of the remote power steering reservoir. Probably the most popular use of remote power steering reservoirs is used in street rods, where space under the hood is at a premium and a smaller power steering pump can be used with a remote reservoir mounted away from the engine.
Perhaps another benefit by using a remote power steering reservoir is the fact it is away from engine heat. It appears, at least to me, that no other GM car model used a remote power steering reservoir during the 1980s, or 1990s. I am guessing on this based on what I have seen in the junkyards. I have viewed a huge number of GM cars over the last several months.
I have found three different GM remote power steering reservoirs, all similar in size to what GM used in our cars and all having the same size feed and return outlets. These all have ½ inch as the one, and 7/16th as the other outlet. Again, more versions may exist, but it’s only been these three I have found thus far.
Junkyarding has increased my knowledge, not to mention the amount of exercise I get!
PHOTO 4 - Here is a photo showing a side view of all 3 different GM remote power steering reservoirs I have found in various GM vans from the late 1990s and early 2000 models. All three are similar in size - roughly 4 inches tall with a 3-½ diameter. The ones on each end are metal. The one in the center is plastic. They are all about the same size as the ones used on the Turbo Regals. I would think the one on the left and the center one would work if you needed it since both outlets go in the same direction as the one used in the Turbo Regal. It's the only option I see that could possibly work if your original was busted or leaking. All three are in good condition with their original fill cap intact. Not shown is the original clinch clamps that I removed with them. To my knowledge, no company has yet made that later GM version of the Turbo Regal remote power steering reservoir.
Ironically, it’s the far right one in the photo that I have found the most of. The left one and the center one are quite rare to find for some reason.
AL FELDSTEIN R.I.P. -
Al Feldstein recently passed away at age 88. While his name may not be familiar to our readers, his job as top editor of Mad Magazine is well recognized. He transformed the satirical publication into a pop culture institution. Mad Magazine sales during the early 1970s topped over 2 million.
LATEST BUMPER STICKER SPOTTED -
I saw this bumper sticker the other day on a car. “NOT DRUNK - AVOIDING POTHOLES”
GNX REPRODUCTION WHEELS NOW IN STOCK -
The new reproduction GNX style wheels are now in stock for immediate delivery. Our first skid of wheels arrived late last week. The quality is excellent. See our Part #7219 on our website. Our back orders have been filled and we have a few sets still available before we have to order more.
This version has the zero offset, which means it is the correct offset to fit under the stock fenders of any 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. They are clear coated. Our kit comes with everything included. That means 4 wheels, 4 center caps, 4 GNX reproduction decals, 20 of the correct two-piece lug nuts, and 4 chrome valve stems.
Keep in mind that we also are interested in buying back your original Grand National wheels, if they are nice. You may want to do so to get back some of your costs, rather than have them sit in your garage or basement. Not many owners go back to 15 inch wheels and tires after they have 16 inch on their cars!

WANTED - A 1966 BONNEVILLE CONVERTIBLE -
In last 04-16-2014 Inner Circle we indicated we were looking for a 1963 Bonneville. That is NOT the correct year. It has to be a 1966 Bonneville convertible model.
We have a local friend who wants a car identical to one he had when he was younger. The car must have a black interior and black convertible top. He is willing to paint the car. He is not looking for a show car, and it doesn't have to be original and correct.
He is looking for one that he can drive and enjoy that will bring back memories for him, not a 95-point show car. He is willing to travel to find one.
Email me if you know of one for sale. He is a serious buyer. My email is - [email protected]
BREAKING NEWS - REPRODUCTION 1986 & 1987 TURBO REGAL WINDOW STICKERS -
Because of the many requests, we have struck a deal with Triple A Enterprises to offer exclusively for our customer's, reproduction Window Stickers for the 1986 and 1987 Turbo Regals only. They have been doing the Pontiacs and Corvettes for many years.
Since this is a part time job for Triple A Enterprises, they are limited to the number of Window Stickers they can do. The turn around time will be about 2 weeks.
We should have the price structure worked out by the next issue. Again, we will only be able to offer 1986 and 1987 Turbo Regal reproduction Window Stickers.

To see a photo, go to 03-12-2013 Inner Circle, Photo 1. The tube is straight and measures 4" tall overall and the breather has a chrome cap on the top and measures 3" in diameter, billet construction. The new lower price is $26 each, which includes shipping to any of the basic 48 states.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -
If you have a tip or a discovery that you found that works on your Turbo Regal, drop us an email giving us the details so we can pass the info on to our readers. Remember, even with my knowledge, I don’t know it all. Simply email me at - [email protected]
UPDATE CONCERNING SPOOLFOOL FILLER PANELS -
Currently we have a quantity of both the rears and fronts in stock for immediate delivery. If you reside near Pennsylvania, shipping on the rear one-piece Spoolfool filler is not that bad. It would run probably around $55 to $60, depending on your zip code.
The Spoolfool front fillers would be reasonable to ship anywhere in the U.S.A. as they are not oversized. Shipping has already been absorbed in getting them from Mike, the supplier in California, to our Pennsylvania location. Call our office for ordering - 215-766-1611 x 0.
PRICE REDUCTION FOR STOCK STEEL HOOD SHOCKS -
Our stock steel hood shocks are made by Stabilus, which is the OEM supplier to GM. We have recently lowered our retail price to $33.95 per set. These are for all the stock steel hoods 1982-1987 Regals. Our Part #6700.
Years ago we were able to work out the pressure required for the hood shocks with Stabilus so they could supply us with a custom hood shock for our fiberglass hoods. That set is Part #1516.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -
1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
OEM-STYLE BLACK OXIDE HOSE CLAMPS SETS
FOR INTERCOOLER, TURBO, MASS AIR HOSE and AIR CLEANER ELBOW
Buick used hose clamps that were finished in black oxide for the three intercooler hoses (6 clamps), the mass air hose and rubber elbow to the factory air cleaner assembly (4 clamps). These are the correct size clamps for the proper application, a total of 10 clamps.
We offer a kit for each or you can save a few dollars and buy both kits, so all the clamps are a matched set.
The intercooler clamp set is ideal to use with our OEM-style heavy-duty hoses, Part #7553, since that hose kit is an exact match to the original material Buick used on the intercooler hoses (the only difference is these hoses are slightly thicker.)
Black oxide is a chemical process and not a coating. The same company that does our chrome plating also has the necessary equipment to do the black oxide process.
NOTE - The clamp set for the intercooler hoses will also work with Part #7458 Intercooler and Turbo Heavy-Duty Hoses (3) Set, and Part #7553 Stock Appearing Intercooler and Turbo Heavy-Duty Hoses (3) Set, and Part #7045 Rebuilt Original AC DELCO Mass Air Flow Sensor.
NOTE - If you need any extra clamps, email our office for pricing - [email protected].
Another great engine restoration part to return your car back to original.

1984-1987 Regal GNX/TRANS AM STYLE 16” x 8” WHEELS (4) SET
Click on this link below for full details. Remember, of you want to buy a set from this current skid, you need to contact our office - 215-766-1611 x 0. You would not be charged until we ship you the wheels. Another skid will be ordered shortly.
1984-1987 Regal -
GNX / TRANS AM STYLE 16" x 8" WHEELS (4) SET
These GNX - TRANS AM style wheels have the black mesh center and are 16"″ x 8"″ with the proper offset to fit under the wheel wells of the 1984-1987 Regals. These resemble the popular original GNX wheels. This version has the zero offset. Do not confuse this with the version we have sold in the past, known as “Kirban-Style” GNX wheels.
These wheels are manufactured with brand new tooling and are clear coated. Wheels have the proper offset to fit under the fenders. We sell these as a complete set of 4 wheels, 20 correct lug nuts, 20 lug nut black caps, 4 chrome-plated valve stems, 4 black center caps, and 4 reproduction “GNX” center cap decals.
The original center caps on the original GNX were actually the existing Trans Am caps. GM simply affixed the “GNX” paper decal over the Trans Am medallion. This set includes the reproduction “GNX” Decals (4) Set, Part #7113.
If you own a 1984, 1985, or 1986 Turbo Regal, the GM front springs on these years were a different spring rate. You will need to change the front springs to avoid having the tires rub when you go over bumps. We recommend our front springs, Part #6566. If you plan on carrying heavy items in the trunk or four friends, we recommend you upgrade the rear springs to our variable rate rear springs, Part #1520 on any 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 Regal.
For shocks, the best ones you can buy are the Bilsteins to further improve the ride quality of your Turbo Regal. The overall height is actually slightly less than what is currently on the car. The speedometer is not affected.
Originally the GNX used 245/50s by 16s up front and 255/50s by 16 in the rear. For best results, we recommend going with 245/50s on the fronts and the backs. Depending on the year Turbo Regal and what suspension upgrades you have made, we do not recommend the larger 255/50s for the rear. However, if you want to go with 255/50s in the rear, trial fit these wheels first to be sure you have enough clearance.
The good news is these wheels will look pretty much dead on with the mesh black center that matches the original GNX mesh center. They are 100% brand new and weigh about 18 lbs each. Of all the available optional wheels, these are the most desirable and can really enhance your pride and joy.
Keep in mind, we will take good used original Grand National wheels in partial trade. This can help save you some money, since you also need to buy new tires.
Shipping generally costs about $65-$125, but we are offering a flat rate of $59.95 for shipping to any of the 48 contiguous states. Call for shipping for other states or Canada - 215-766-1611 x 0.

1986-1987 Turbo Regal -
AFTERMARKET FUEL PUMP RELAY
This is an aftermarket fuel pump relay, which is unique to the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. It does NOT fit 1984-1985 Turbo Regals.
The fuel pump relay is located on the passenger’s side inner fender. It is the first relay towards the front of the car.
The fuel pump relay primes the fuel pump upon start up. If you find your car is hard to start, this may be the problem or may be part of the problem. It’s cheap insurance to have one on hand.
IMPORTANT - This relay is located on the passenger’s side front fender, closest to the front of the car. The relay behind it is for the AC clutch.
It’s a good idea to keep one of these fuel pump relays on hand, since it is unique for your car.

2014 - UPCOMING TURBO REGAL EVENTS FOR 2014 -
RIDE FOR MOLLY - SATURDAY - MAY 10, 2014
The date this year for the "Ride for Molly" event is Saturday, May 10, 2014. According to Ralph Shelley, one of our Turbo Regal customers, he expects that 3 or 4 Turbo Buicks from northern California will participate this year.
This year the ride originates from the site of their first two memorial rides, the very popular Temecula Creek Inn. It will then go along one of Molly's favorite routes to Borrego Springs, with a luncheon planned at the Red Octotillo, located in the lodge built in 1948. This is truly a throwback to the 1950's and an experience you won't want to miss.
As in the past, all monies contributed by the attendees will support a college fund for Molly’s daughter Brooke. If you are not able to attend but wish to contribute, a check made payable to “Molly Memorial Education Fund” can be mailed to: Molly Memorial Education Fund, c/o Alan DeCarr, 6446 Fairwind Circle, Huntington Beach, Ca. 92648.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Exployer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

If you want to save money on shipping on any of parts, let us know. We will not be set up as a vendor.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
Remember, Pete and I are planning to be in Chicago for the June GN and T-Type Get together. We will be there for Friday night and Saturday.
If you want to save money on shipping on any of parts, let us know. We will not be set up as a vendor.
