Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 09-11-2013
MORE AUTOMOTIVE GRAVE YARD FINDS -
On this same property that I been featuring in recent Inner Circles, there are several buildings and tractor-trailers. The owner told me he has more Turbo Regal items, but until the huge vines get cut down, he wasn’t able to open the sliding doors on the main building until this past week.
He has six cars squeezed in the other end of the building, making it impossible to go in from the other end.
He remembers buying a set of Grand National wheels and tires that were take offs from the GNX project back in the late 1980s. I told him I am a buyer for them, and was hoping that the wheels and tires were still in good condition. I can’t recall ever owning a set of Grand National tires and wheels take offs from the GNX project.
I remember seeing take off sets for sale for a few years at the major Carlisle events. Back then, they were not a rare item. The going price back then was $500 to $650 for a set. I never bought any mainly because I did not want to haul them back to my truck! If you have ever been to Carlisle, you understand that statement.
The other reason was I had struck a deal with a company out of Oklahoma that had purchased all the remaining Grand National wheels, and I was buying them one skid at a time. Our long-time customers will recall when we had these for sale in our monthly newsletters. I think we ended up selling over 500 Grand National wheels back in the early 1990s.
Like our Kirban-style GNX wheels that he left still in the boxes in the trunk of his Turbo Limited, these Grand National wheels and tires were still wrapped as if UPS delivered them a week ago! Only one had been opened. I saved the original wrapper that verifies the UPS COD tag and date they were shipped to him. The date on the COD tag was 12-01-87. That translates into almost 26 years these tires and wheels have been sitting untouched in this one huge building.
PHOTO 1 -The top photo shows all four wheels and tires still holding 1987 air. The bottom photo shows one still in the original shipping wrapper in the back of my truck, which I have saved to go with the wheels.
PHOTO 2 - The photo on the left is a close up showing the original valve stem with the yellow sticker still on the tire. All four tires still have the yellow sticker intact and the original valve stem caps. The photo on the right is a close up showing the back side of one of the tires and wheels. It is very evident it has had no use. The only miles they would have gone were from the Buick plant to ASC in Michigan.
This building has no windows and was dry, so the entire set cleaned up like new. I don’t see any evidence of cracking on the tires. They were stored flat. I would not recommend high speed or long distance driving on them, but for original equipment, these would be what you want.
See the Rare Parts section for the price.
After we had made the deal for the tires and wheels, he told me he had something even rarer in tractor-trailer. I kiddingly said, "Is it a pile of gold bricks?" I have to go back again to see if I can strike a deal on some of the other items in the one building and also what he showed me in this one tractor-trailer.
Watch for word next week! I guess I will have to take him another blank check.
PHOTO 3 - The photo on the left is a close up of the back of one of wheels. You can clearly see the "06 15 87" date. The dates on the back of the other three wheels are 06 12 87, 06 16 87 and 06 27 87. Very few wheel weights where used on the face side this set of wheels. Some of the wheels have no weights on the face side. The photo on the right shows a close up of one of the tread patterns, which look brand new.
Because these wheels and tires had decent storage, they are in remarkable condition.
HERE IS A THOUGHT FOR ANY GNX OWNER -
It just occurred to me that most car collectors usually retain any of their original parts that get taken off their car. Remember, every GNX started as a Grand National.
Although owners of these cars never got the parts that were removed for the project, most GNX owners really do not have all the parts associated with their car. The Grand National turbo, the dash cluster, tires, wheels, and wheel well trim would be the main items that come to mind. The original tires and wheels would be the largest item and the most expensive to obtain today.
BREAKING NEWS -
We talked to Richard Clark earlier last week and he is planning on attending our upcoming Septemberfest, Saturday, September 28th. This is a rare treat for us to have Richard come to our event. Richard has not been able to attend many Turbo Regal events this year.
Russ, our Chef, recently picked up a commercial-style barbeque for our event for us.
PHOTO 4 - Shows our new monster size barbeque. It's big enough to cook over 60 hamburgers at a single time. Russ made our staff a special barbeque lunch last week, so he could make sure the equipment is in good working order for our Septemberfest event.
MORE MEMORIES -
With my birthday this week, it's been exactly 50 years since I got my driver's license in September of 1963.
A few months prior to getting my license, I bought a brand new 1963 Ford Galaxie XL hardtop. I had been working all summer for my Dad. By November of that same year, my grades had dropped so low that my parents were getting notices from school. I was working every day for my Dad to make the car payments.
I still remember the night my Dad made me turn over my keys to the car, and said I could no longer drive to school. That next morning using a spare set of keys, I took my car, picked up my girlfriend as usual, and drove her to school telling her not to tell anyone I was running away. Then I headed on a venture across the country.
I was actually driving through downtown St. Louis, Missouri when I heard that President Kennedy was shot. I would drive through Texas the next day on what is now the famous Route 66. I was picked up on a Saturday morning by the police about 10 miles east of Gallup, New Mexico. I spent 3 days in jail waiting for my Dad to come out.
Long story short, I got zeros in all my classes I missed, making it necessary to go to summer school the following summer. My Ford got shipped back by train car and cost me over $600 to retrieve it just prior to Christmas. Fortunately, I had forgiving parents and I was able to continue to drive to school. My younger brother and three sisters proved to be easier to raise than I was!

1981-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
UPGRADED H4 55/60 HEADLIGHTS (4) KIT, HARNESS & HEADLIGHT
This kit will fit every GM car that takes this same size four headlight system, including all 1981-1988 A-Body and G-Body models.
NOTE - Kit #7530 and Harness #7531 will not work with HID headlights.
We have examined several of the various H4 headlight systems available and have found one that closely resembles the original style headlight. The headlight is glass and looks very close to the original glass face of your sealed beam headlight. To eliminate possible problems with the factory headlight switch and its ability to handle higher wattage bulbs, we also include a special plug-in harness. This plug-in harness takes the current directly from the battery after you turn on the headlights. The headlight switch is merely used to turn them on. This eliminates any possible problems with the 25-year-old headlight switch.
The stock sealed beam headlights are 45/55 watts. These new H4 formatted headlights already have a 55/60 watt bulbs installed. The plug-in harness that comes with this kit has two 80 amp relays and an in-line fuse to prevent any overloads. This harness is designed for Halogen headlights only and not for HIDs.
The custom-made plug-in harness is highly recommended in the G-Body cars to eliminate any possible issues with the original headlight switch. Issues with higher wattage bulbs can cause the headlights to flicker or turn off completely.
This plug-in harness also allows you to upgrade to even higher halogen wattage bulbs (maximum 80 watts), if you want. It has been tested by our source running four 100 watt bulbs for over one hour with no problems. The plug-in harness is designed to be virtually undetectable under the hood.
Just upgrading to the 55/60 watt H4 setup will be an improvement on overall lighting, compared to what now is the antique sealed beam format. Once you get this H4 upgrade, you can easily upgrade to higher wattage bulbs, if desired.
Another upgrade that improves lighting while keeping your car stock appearing.
NOTE - We offer the set of four, or individually if you wish to purchase an extra H4 headlight the 55/60 watt H4 bulb as a spare (Part #7532.)
NOTE - We offer the Upgraded Plug-and-Play Harness (Part #7531) if you want to install a headlight kit from another source. This harness will work with all Halogen H4 systems.
Another great upgrade to improve the brightness of the headlights, while retaining a stock appearance.

ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE - We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected].
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Free Yum Yum donuts and coffee will be provided in the morning.
Pete and I will have our usual array of used parts. CARS INC. and World of Motorworks will also be there with parts for sale. Some of the highlights for the Open House will be the raffle prizes, M&M contest, and a no reserve auction. We will have some really neat items for the no reserve auction including several items from Jay's GN that we purchased.
Our personal Turbo-T will be on display and I will show our new plug-and-play H4 headlight system.
Once again, Chef Russ and Nancy will be preparing a full-course gourmet luncheon, like they did at our Spring Open House. This time the menu will be expanded. We are very fortunate to have Nancy and Russ, our local Turbo Buick Chef who loves to cook, generously offer to prepare the entire luncheon menu. So bring your appetite.
Confirmed as coming to our Septemberfest Richard Clark will be coming. Richard as many of you know is well versed on our cars and is always willing to answer any questions you may have.

LOOKING FOR IDEAS -
If you have any product ideas that would fit our Turbo Buick market that you would like to see available, email me direct - [email protected]
ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -
Got any turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected].
Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.
Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
