MINI CONTEST ANSWER AND WINNERS -
The most popular wrong answer was the front frame braces. Many of you that submitted your guess failed to recognize the one important clue. That clue was the part was not a reproduction of an existing part. In other words, the part we sold did not duplicate an original part.
The correct answer is the 1984-1987 Turbo Regal Lock Pillar Reinforcement Plates (2). We sold these for a number of years around 2004. I believe Rick Hunt sold them to us. They appear in the last catalog we printed in 2007. I can't recall why we stopped offering them. I recently acquired a brand new pair of them with some other parts from a customer of ours that is moving from Maryland to Arizona.
The winners of the contest are Vince Hyman and David Stecko. Gene Kessler also had the correct answer, but since they were his parts I bought, I felt he had a small advantage! All 3 winning contestants will get a brand new pair of the lock pillar plates. I dropped a sample off at a local machine shop that currently makes out thermostat housing, 160 degree thermostat among other parts. We expect to have the finished product in our hands before the end of August.
They will be also made in the same thickness steel as the originals and powder coated glossy black to match all the Grand Nationals and black Turbo Regals. For whatever reason either due to thin metal or due to stress many Turbo Regals are showing cracks around the door strikers. The cracks later get rusty and become an issue on how to address the problem. This plate is shaped to fit perfectly in that area so your attention is not drawn to that area.
The projected price will probably be $49.95. Watch for updates in late August. Congrats to the winners.
PHOTO 1 - The photo to the left we show a page from one of our old catalogs where we advertised it #6774 for just $18/pair. Just like the value of your Grand National from over 15 years ago the new projected price will be $49.95/pair. Notice on the same page we show the GM door strikers. I am surprised we are still able to buy these door strikers from GM. I can only surmise how much longer that will happen! The photo to the right shows one of the reinforcement plates.
OLD SCHOOL ADJUSTABLE TURBO BUICK FUEL REGULATOR -
Among the items I purchased the other week was a brand new still in the factory sealed bag one of our early Turbo Regal adjustable fuel regulators. This is a rare find getting one of these. Again using my old catalogs as a guide I can figure out when we sold them and when we switched to the popular all billet constructed adjustable fuel regulator. The same company made both versions and they were and still are 100% Made in the USA.
In my 1997 Buick Turbo catalog it states this is a new design so it appears that in late 1996 we must have switched to the conversion style adjustable fuel regulator. It was based on using a stock Bosch fuel regulator making it adjustable with a new billet aluminum top. These sold for $105 each. The current all billet version sells for $125 each. Again using my catalogs as a guide it appears we kept with that format until 2001. In that catalog we announced this was an all new design billet constructed. So the current format al billet has been sold for about 20 years now. I know the Mustang versions we make have sold over 35,000 in those 20 years! Not a misprint! Almost all of which has been wholesale to major Mustang suppliers.
Going back even further in our 1994 catalog we were selling another version made by Bowling Green Customs. This was a rather primitive format because the adjustment screw worked through the vacuum port from what I remember. What made it primitive was because of the way it was designed, if the owner would make more than a few adjustments the adjustment screw could come loose so fuel pressure could not remain constant. Again I am going by memory. I believe at the time this product was sold by the new owners of Bowling Green Custom that were located in Georgia.
Back in the 1990s of course we were not the only player getting the adjustable fuel regulator made. Kenne Bell and ATR both had a similar adjustable which still can be seen today on various cars that had their engines built years ago. There may have been others but those and ours were the most widely marketed ones.
PHOTO 2 - We show on the left the current all billet design 1984-1987 Turbo Regal adjustable fuel regulator and the earlier modified Bosch fuel regulator on the right in the same photo. Our all billet design is probably the most popular one you see on Turbo Regals today. The one pictured on the right is of course the earlier style this same company made for us in the beginning. The photo on the right shows the later alternator fan we used to sell for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal alternators. I believe these originally were used by GM on certain cars in the 1990s. The one pictured is listed under the Rare Parts section for sale.
1984-1987 TURBO REGAL CONSOLE PLATE -
Among the parts I bought the other week was this mint used console plate. I am not sure who made the inscription in the applique but it does look very nice. It would pass for new as it is that nice. Also in the photo below we show another part we used to get made and sell in the 1990s. We made a 3 switch panel and a 5 switch panel.
This switch plate was made in metal and then powder coated semi or satin black. The switches would light up. You had to supply the wiring and wire whatever you wanted to them. It simply dropped in place of the ashtray and the switches cleared the console plate lid when closed. If nothing else it discourages smoking in your car! In looking in my old catalogs in the 1990s the 3 switch panel sold for $33.95 and the 5 switch panel sold for $38.95. This same machine shop may still have some of the 3 switch panels sitting around minus the switches.
Come this Fall we may look into getting some of them made from the few he has on the shelf from years ago.
PHOTO 3 - We show the mint looking console center piece along with a new replacement applique and shifter indicator if someone wanted to replace the current applique. The second photo shows the 3 switch panel that replaces the console ashtray. This is brand new from over 15 years ago.
GRAND NATIONAL HOT WHEELS -
I must confess I have not paid much attention to the various hot wheel examples of the various Grand National cars that Hot Wheels has released. Several versions they have done have a direct tie-in to the Fast & Furious movie series. The body shop that did the prep work I assume for the Turbo Regals used in the movies bought some of the parts from us to create the GNX style Grand National.
What appears to be lacking is the misinformation that they put on some of their labels on the packaging. It would be nice if they titled the diecast example correctly so young buyers are not confused. For example the one I picked up under the Hot Wheels logo they call it a ‘87 Buick Regal GNX. The major error is in the exterior paint scheme two tone grey. Has a very faint impression of fender vents to indicate a GNX. No decal on the fender to indicate a Grand National either. I can understand incorrect wheels, but they should get the color correct and give the diecast the proper name.
In the case of the Fast & Furious series Hot Wheels the Grand National is all black with the proper decal on the fender. Above the decal is a faint impression of the fender vents. The title is 87 Buick Grand National GNX. At least it's the proper color. It is evident that the same tooling is used for all the Regal body cars regardless of what color and caption they use. A cost saving factor for sure. On the bottom of the car it says Made in Thailand. I doubt there's even a real full size Grand National in that country!
I would think they must have someone in their main office staff that gives the final ok for the packaging wording.
PHOTO 4 - On the left we show the Hot Wheels they label as a 87 Buick Regal GNX that is clearly painted two tone grey. On the right we show the all black Fast & Furious Grand National version.
THE MAKING OF A DIECAST MODEL -
This is a product I am familiar with on how the project starts out. Years ago around the late 1980s the Danbury mint approached me about finding a suitable 1965 GTO as they wanted to make a 1:18 scale 1965 GTO hardtop. I knew of a perfect example that was not only a National GTO winner but someone who helped me with numerous GTO parts we had gotten made over the years. Plus he was only in nearby Maryland. Turns out that the Danbury mint had an office near me where they would do the design work based on the photos they would take of the actual car.
The project would be basically just a PR thing for me so I could say I worked on that project plus I got a few of the finished cars. At the time I had my 1964 GTO. First they wanted to do all the undercarriage photos first. Since the 1964 was identical to the 1965 they said they could use my car once they located a shop with a lift that they could rent for an entire day. I was able to line up another friend that was a manager at the local Midas shop.
So that was the first step. As the project got under way I would have to go over to the office and approve their drawings to make sure they were accurate. My friend's 1965 GTO was Iris Mist color. Originally they wanted to make their model burgundy exterior and a black interior. I said no it would be of little value to use my friend's award winning GTO and then change the colors. His car is extremely rare and besides he would never be able to prove it was his car that was used for the project.
I won that argument. I never realized how time consuming making a diecast model was. Or how many small mistakes can be made from a photo to a drawing. Example one mistake they made and corrected was the direction of the seat pattern. Initially they had that wrong.
One mistake they did make and decided not to correct was my 1964 GTO had a rear sway bar which GTOs did not get until 1970. I did not put up much of an argument with that since that would kind of back up the proof it was my 1964 GTO they used for the underside of the car!
At their office I got to see their display room. In this room lined all around the walls were many of the prototypes for the various diecast cars they had made over the years. I never realized that the initial prototype was a bigger diecast and was used in the magazine ads prior to actual production so they could get sales in advance. By making the prototype larger when it was reduced for the magazine the detail would be quite good. A clever idea. They showed me one particular Cadillac convertible they did and they pointed out to me the passenger door window switch was a dual switch! Never got correct in production! Passenger window switch should have been a single switch. It was quite an experience to see all the ground work is done prior to getting a diecast model made. Those one of one prototype diecasts that would be the ones to collect since they only did 1 of 1 that I am aware of. That local office is long gone. Course in the case of the diecast Grand Nationals you can see how the company spread out their cost factor by producing various colors other than the Grand National and the GNX.
CURRENTLY IN STOCK -
ORIGINAL REBUILT 1986-1987 TURBO REGAL MASS AIR FLOW SENSORS. We just got in 2 rebuilt stock original AC Delco 1986-1987 Turbo Regal mass air flow sensors. Best to call the office if you want one. The price is $149.95 plus shipping. Each usable core is worth $40 each.
MODIFIED BRAND NEW JEEP LOWER STEERING SHAFTS. Modified brand new Jeep lower steering shafts. Since recently switching to brand new Jeep shafts our plan is we will start to wholesale them to other suppliers. This shaft now that it is brand new is far superior to the 30 plus year one one currently in any 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. Besides the advantage of freeing up more space under the hood on the drivers side of the engine compartment it has a metal swivel joint at both ends. Far tighter feel over the factory coupler or rag joint GM used which was made from some sort of fiber. The Jeep shaft has an absorber at the one end so vibration does not travel up the column. We got some coming in every week. It is best to call soon as possible because we will be changing the website listing to not include free shipping at the $169.95 price. The new copy will read $169.95 plus shipping. The part number is #7574. Each shaft comes with easy to follow directions with photos. A small notch is needed at the base of the upper shaft so the bolt to clamp the lower shaft to it can slide through cleanly to the back end of the clamp. Call the office to order 215-766-1611. We have several coming in every 4-5 days.
Even going to a brand new Jeep shaft and having it modified we can still market it cheaper than the stock reproduction brand new GM lower steering shaft which usually sells for $189.95 to $219.95 on various websites and ebay listings.
TURBO REGAL REPRODUCTION HORN RINGS. All the back orders have been filled and we have more in stock ready to ship. Best to buy now while we have a supply in stock ready to ship. Part #1518 price is $59.95 plus shipping.
REBUILT ORIGINAL 1986-1987 TURBO REGAL POWER STEERING PUMPS. We still have a few left from this initial shipment from Cardone. We were just informed that Cardone had just over a dozen 1986-1987 Turbo Regal power steering pumps in their system. We purchased the entire stock so they are in the process of rebuilding them for us. These carry a one year warranty. This power steering pump is unique to the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. I also believe it's the same used in the limited production 1989 TurboTrans Ams. Nobody has reproduced this part yet that I am aware of. Currently just a few left! Once our current supply is exhausted I have no idea when or even if Cardone will be able to get more cores to rebuild. On the rebuilt power steering pump it's best to call to be assured of getting one. Our office number is 215-766-1611.
GREY OR BLACK 9-PIECE TRUNK KITS. Be sure to contact our office. These have taken over 6 weeks to get. We only have a few of these 9 piece trunk kits. These are based on the original optional grey trunk kit that was standard in all the GNXs. This kit due to its design hides the spare tire and protects the quarter panel. Part #6510 is the grey 9 piece trunk kit and Part #7764 is the black 9 piece trunk kit. The price is $299.95 each. We got several of each currently in stock. Best to call our office 215-766-1611. I am sure when we go to order more it will take another 6 weeks or longer to get them in stock.

This show usually has several Turbo Regals and one or two GNXs in the mix. This event is huge. The event has no rain date. I guess they have a direct connection to God? I hope to be there.

CAR SHOW DATES FOR 2021 SEASON -
EAST COAST BUICK REGIONALS
Saturday September 11th 2021
This annual event is held at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Maryland. There is no rain date. I have gone every year for the last 5 or 6 years. Always a good event. Plenty of room and plenty of cars. This event was not held in 2020 so a lot of pent up demand for the return. I will be donating items for this event and I will be there as a vendor. I don’t bring many items but I do a lot of buying. So if you plan to attend, see me if you bring items to sell. Our plan is to hand out 3 special custom awards for the 3 cars that impress me the most. More details later.
We will not have many items for sale at this event but instead be focused on accepting turbo cores, powermaster cores, and 1986-1987 original AC Delco mass air flow sensor cores. Course we are always on the lookout for NOS parts. Will have several blank checks with me!

We discovered that FedEx will not forward any packages that are sent to the old PO Box or to our old address in Plumsteadville. Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside or send them back to the shipper. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.
If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use FedEx. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –
1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
AFTERMARKET EPA CERTIFIED LOW RESTRICTIVE STOCK CATALYTIC CONVERTER
Many owners may want to replace the original pancake-style restrictive catalytic converter. This is a unique catalytic converter with the proper custom-made 4-bolt flange at the back end. The overall length is 18 inches. This is a direct bolt in replacement and similar to the one we offered over 20 years ago. This only works with the stock 2-1/2 inch diameter downpipe.
It will bolt up to the stock exhaust or to the Pypes Dual Exhaust system, Part #6996, we sell.
Original catalytic converters can easily become clogged over a long period of time. They are also a lot more restrictive due to its pancake style. Some states have very strict laws regarding emissions equipment, even on older cars.
This catalytic converter also can lower any drone sound the current mufflers may make.
We offer this low restrictive catalytic converter, which weighs less than 8 pounds and is EPA certified! It is not a universal converter, but one with the correct 4-bolt flange on the one end that will directly bolt into your Turbo Regal.
With the amount of heat turbo cars develop, the converter can begin to break down internally and clog the exhaust system.
The EPA rules dictate that replacement catalytic converters must go in the same location as the original converter. This unit bolts into that same area and has the same mounting flange.
This catalytic converter comes complete with the 4-bolt exhaust flange. This 4-bolt flange is very unique to these cars as no other G-body application has this style flange. We also offer the 4-bolt flange, Part #7947, by itself for those of you that may want to get a test pipe made for off road use only.
Another excellent replacement for any exhaust restoration.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again.
Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
Remember the weekly Inner Circle always goes out at 3 pm eastern time so subscribers all have the same equal chance on the Rare Parts. All our parts generally are priced to sell and below what others offer. Also our used items are exactly as described. Emails are acknowledged in the order we receive them regardless of when I respond as I am not always by a computer and I only use a flip phone.

IN CLOSING -
Remember the weekly Inner Circle always goes out at 3 pm eastern time so subscribers all have the same equal chance on the Rare Parts. All our parts generally are priced to sell and below what others offer. Also our used items are exactly as described.
