Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 01-08-2020 -
CHRISTMAS CONTEST RESULTS -
Nobody guessed the correct answer to our Christmas contest. The most popular wrong answer was that we had made some sort of phone holder for the cars. As you can imagine, it is very difficult to think of something to make that would fit a variety of cars and be something nobody had made prior to this.
I had the idea to make a car show display stand that I wanted it to work off different hood latch assemblies. The idea came to me on one of my recent trips to a junkyard. I noticed that in almost in every case, whether it was an American car or a foreign car, they all had a hood latch assembly on the core support or in the front area.
The difference was that the height would vary and, in some cases such as the G-body cars, the front header panel was higher than the core support. That was part of the issue. At that point, I realized I needed outside help to take my idea into a prototype and eventually a finished product. I was stumped on how to make a display stand attach to a hood latch assembly.
Devyn had just come home from Penn State for Christmas break so I approached her and Darrell with my idea. I gave them the challenge to come up with a drawing and a prototype that I could take to the local machine shop and have a prototype made.
I figured this would be a perfect part to combine our heads together and make something as a family. I liked the idea of the 3 DKs and being 3 generations to see if it can be done. The end result can be seen in Photo 1.
HOOD LATCH CAR SHOW DISPLAY STAND -
For those of you that show your car at various events, we have designed a unique car show display stand. It not only sits center in front of your car, but it is not affected by wind or someone bumping it. This format positions your sign perfectly in the center of the front of your open hood. This way spectators can easily read the information you have posted with no danger of bumping it off the car or the wind blowing your sign away.
It allows the display copy to be mounted vertical or horizontal. The clamp is even designed to secure it to the hood latch so it can be installed in either direction. This way there is no problem getting it to the bolt to mount the clamp securely to the hood latch assembly.
The clamp is powder-coated glossy black. The rest of the stand is either stainless or aluminum, so it not only looks good but is lightweight.
Once I saw the design of our prototype it occurred to me that the handle followed the basic shape and length of an actual Hurst shifter handle.
When I saw that, I found a source for original Hurst handles and I ordered samples of the short 6-inch version. By using an actual Hurst chrome handle, it gives the car show display stand a unique look. Hurst is the perfect connection for any American performance car.
The clamp design that Darrell and Devyn came up with works perfectly in securing the handle and display panel to the hood latch.
The display panel to mount your information on is 8-1/2" by 11". If your display sign is larger than that, you simply mount it first on a poster board so it is rigid and then it can be centered on the aluminum display panel. We made the display panel so it can be mounted either vertical or horizontal.
We are waiting on the latest prototype before we approve production of both types of hood latch car show display stands. Once we approve both designs, we can get the machine shop to work out the price structure.
All hardware will be stainless allen screws so the actual display stand looks as good as the car you are entering in a car show.
I think of the two designs, the one that uses an actual brand new Hurst shifter handle will be the most popular. If you buy the design without the Hurst handle, we will offer it separately so you can buy it later.
I am proud that this idea between my son Darrell and our granddaughter Devyn has gone from idea to production.
Once pricing has been established, we will be giving our Inner Circle members a special introductory price. We will be also offering it to various vendors.
Once car show season begins, we will be able to determine what cars and years these two hood latch car show display stands will fit. I know for sure it will fit every G-Body application and almost every car as long as the hood latch sits about 1-1/2" above the surface of the core support. The curve of the handle allows plenty of clearance between the display panel and the front header of any car.
PHOTO 1 - The top left photo we show the initial illustration that Darrell drew up and the description wording that Devyn did. The lower left photo shows the basic parts that make up the hood latch car show display stand. The top right photo shows a vertical 11" x 17" poster board sign on the hood latch of a Regal. Our design allows about 5 inches of clearance over the hood ornament. The bottom right photo shows a side view of the prototype hood latch display stand using the brand new Hurst chrome shifter handle. You can clearly see the design gives plenty of clearance from the header panel.
We hope to have pricing and production later this month. This is one of those products that once other car show participants see it at car shows, they will be inquiring where can they purchase one for their display sign. The Hurst name is the perfect connection with virtually every American muscle car from the 1960s and newer.

TWO MORE BOOKLETS FOR SALE -
We just had printed more of the 1987 3.8 SFI TURBO REGAL ENGINE DESCRIPTION MANUAL. It's 53-pages in length. It shows the various illustrations that Buick used on the assembly line when they were assembling the engine. It also gives the part number of the various parts used in each illustration. See the Rare Parts section for prices.
We also reprinted the booklet entitled, BREAKING DOWN THE SERVICE PARTS IDENTIFICATION LABEL (SPID) BETTER KNOWN AS THE TRUNK ID LABEL. This booklet runs 62-pages and lists all the exterior and interior colors for 1984 through 1987 Turbo Regals.
The book also includes the Buick Price Directory listing every option, the code for the option and the cost for each option for all the 1984 through 1987 Regal models. It also lists all the vinyl roof molding codes, painted strips seat options, and trim combinations. See the Rare Parts section for prices.
PHOTO 2 - Photos on the left show the 1987 3.8 SFI TURBO REGAL ENGINE DESCRIPTION BOOKLET cover and a page from the booklet. The photos on the right show the BREAKING DOWN THE SERVICE PARTS IDENTIFICATION LABEL (SPID) BETTER KNOWN AS THE TRUNK ID LABEL cover and a page from this booklet.
COLLECTIBLE ITEMS FOR SALE -
We are offering for the first time two more items from our personal collection. First, is an ash grey size large 2007 Kirban Reunion and Birthday Bash T-shirt. This T-shirt is imprinted on both sides and has Molly's autograph on the front.
The other item is an aluminum Buick Hawk license plate. It is brand new. I believe it was a dealer item for dealers to put on cars in the showroom. The word BUICK is slightly raised on the license plate.
PHOTO 3 - The top photos show the front and back of the ash grey 2007 Reunion and Birthday Bash T-shirt. The lower photo shows the unique aluminum new Buick license plate. See the Rare Parts section for prices.
POWER TRUNK RELEASE & FLIP-DOWN STAY-DOWN LICENSE PLATE BRACKET -
The power trunk release is a nice easy-to-install option on any 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. It is easy to wire direct to the fuse box so it operates with the key off. See Photo 4. This one is in mint condition with the button. The flip-down stay-down license plate bracket is all original.
PHOTO 4 - We show both the power trunk release with the button and the factory GM directions on how to wire it in a Regal. Also shown is an original flip-down stay-down license plate bracket that has not been repainted. They are for sale in the Rare Parts section as a Packaged Deal.
CHRISTMAS CARTOONS BY FRED BOATMAN -
We had the Turbo Regal cartoons that Fred Boatman did for us years ago put in a spiral bound 8-1/2" x 11" booklet format. Over 30 Turbo Regal cartoons are in this booklet. Great gift idea or to have with your collection. Fred Boatman did a lot of cartoons for Peterson Publishing Company in the 1960s and 1970s. His work can be seen in Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines during those years. See the Rare Parts section as we have less than 5 copies left of this booklet pictured in our last Inner Circle.

WELL-OPTIONED LOW-MILEAGE 1987 GRAND NATIONAL - FOR SALE -
This Grand National is still available. This extremely well-optioned, low-mileage 1987 Grand National that is for sale. The owner wants me to sell it for him. He has had it 6 years. The miles on this Grand National is a mere 48,200. Options include factory moonroof, power windows, power locks, tilt, cruise, delay wipers, concert sound, power trunk, digital dash, power seat, working power antenna, and posi rear. The Grand National is located in Maryland.
It has a beautiful repaint done prior to his owning it. He had paint correction done and ceramic coating this past Spring. The car really shines, probably 100%, better than original. Everything functions 100%, even the original AC.
Additional features include embroidered floor mats, few chrome goodies under the hood, Kirban adjustable fuel regulator, hot wire kit, 60lb injectors, adjustable wastegate, TT chip, new bumper fillers, new fuel tank, and has dual a-pillar gauges and console gauge package. He checked the car with a magnet and shows no putty or filler anywhere. It has the factory chip guard along bottom of the car.
According to the owner Mike, the Grand National has had 4 previous owners. The car shows no accidents or any indication that mileage is not accurate.
The price is $26,900. This Grand National is priced to sell. You would be hard pressed to find a better example of a well-optioned 1987 Grand National that would measure up to the quality of this one at this price. A factory moon roof with a power seat option is extremely rare. This car next Spring would easily bring several grand more than it is priced at this fall.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. IN CLOSING -
Welcome to 2020. It's good to see values of the Turbo Regals, especially the Grand Nationals, continue to not only hold their value, but increase value as well.
NEW CONTEST FOR A NEW YEAR -
As we stated in the last Inner Circle, a 1987 Grand National with a mere 102 actual miles is scheduled to go through the Mecum Auction tomorrow, Thursday, in Kissimmee, Florida. It has No Reserve. It is estimated the car will bring between $60,000-$80,000.
HERE ARE THE CONTEST RULES -
You get only one guess. That guess must be submitted direct to my email [email protected] Your answer must be submitted before midnight eastern time tonight 1-8-2020. It's a tight deadline as the 102-mile Grand National is scheduled to be auctioned off Thursday, January 9th, 2020.
Jason from Canada will be advising us as to what the Grand National sells for tomorrow.
The closest single guess under the actual hammered price will win one of the rare HO scale Grand National diecast cars that Molly signed the trunk lid back at our 2007 Birthday bash. This has a $100 value. In case of tie, the earliest email is a winner!
In quick review - a single guess emailed direct to me [email protected] before midnight today, Wednesday, January 8th eastern time.
Good luck players!

In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.
If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use Fed Ex. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

This car is show quality from any angle. For more information and photos, email me direct [email protected]
Pass the word along to your friends who may be looking for a great-looking well-optioned Grand National.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again.
