GLOVE BOX OWNER’S MANUAL HOLDERS -
Glove box Owner’s Manual holders back in the mid-1980s (which included the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals) were nothing special.
Since over 300 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal passed through our hands many, bought from original owners, I know what Buick used as holders for the Owner’s Manual and related material. Usually it was a clear plastic bag. In other cases, dealers had a special envelope made up for their customers. These were just one of many items available to dealers by other companies. At some point in the late 1980s and early 1990s Buick went to using a vinyl Owner’s Manual holder. Depending on the Buick model, that would determine which Owner’s Manual holder would be included.
Based on my findings, Buick used at least 6 different Owner’s Manual holders from the late 1980s through 2004 models. In the many U-Pull-It yards I go to, cars generally are only as new as 2004. While the blue one is usually the color I find, it’s the black or grey one that Buick used in the later years that compliments the Turbo Regal, especially the Grand National.
PHOTO 1 - The photo shows a typical Dealership printed holder at the top. In this case, it’s O’Neil Buick GMC, which handled most of our Turbo Regal deals over the years. At the bottom of the photo we show the original Buick Owner’s Manual holders I have found in black or grey. We currently have some of each for sale (see our Rare Parts section in this email.)
ONE COUPLE’S CAR COLLECTION -
Just prior to taking my trip to Pittsburgh for the GTOAA National Convention, I got an email from one of our customers who live in Pittsburgh, inviting me to stop and see his car collection. I was able to go to his house during my stay in Monroeville. John and Elaine Rjabak have been long-time customers of ours. I met him a few years back at the BPG event in Columbus, Ohio.
He has a very unique 1987 Turbo-T that they ordered brand new. Several things make their car unique. The car is grey with a factory moon roof and a burgundy interior, crank windows with power door locks, radio delete and a power antenna. Since they ordered it new, they have the Window Sticker to prove the options. Usually most grey cars owners would go with a grey interior, so burgundy is unusual in a grey car. Crank windows with power locks are also unusual. A radio delete with power antenna, again not a popular combination.
Granted what I mentioned may not be the most rare list of options or features, but there is one other feature in their car that may be the only one in existence. It comes down to being a screw up, but for whatever reason, John never had it changed, nor is it easy to correct.
The trim plate above the glove box is the Grand National trim plate. It is not the Turbo-T one. The entire trim plate is not correct. Who knows the real reason how it came to be. Chances are either someone on the assembly line was not paying attention that day or simply didn’t care? This is a true 5,700-mile car, garaged kept, same owner since new, and still smells new, so I don’t for a minute doubt its authenticity having seen the car in person. It’s unique that it ended up in a car that has been so well preserved for over 25 years now. It makes John and Elaine’s car stand out from all the others.
They also own a 1990 ZR1 Corvette with about 6,000 actual miles, and a 2004 GTO with only 1,000 miles showing. They bought the GTO because the dealer had discounted it so much since the new 2005 pumped out more horsepower the dealer could not sell the 2004 model.
They also own a 30th Anniversary Camaro hardtop with about 2,000 actual miles. Rounding out their collection is a 1968 real original Z28 Camaro. This car they bought used. It was ordered without the gauge package. Since it’s a very early Z28 in 1968, it lacks the Z28 emblems on the front fenders. This car has about 24,000 miles on it.
Their two everyday personal cars sit outside all the time. Over the years John has expanded the garages on their house and has a separate building for the ZR1 Corvette. Each car was absolutely show quality in every respect. John even has a towel under the cord for each battery maintainer so the cord does not rub on the car itself. I was careful not to even breathe on them!
I was impressed with the condition of the cars.
Like me, he also has a collection in their home of various GM items and Turbo Regal items he has purchased from us and other people. I know one thing, before John and Elaine can buy another collectible car, they need to erect another garage on their property!
PHOTO 2 - The top photo shows the front end of their grey Turbo-T. Note the towel under the battery maintainer used to protect the paint! The bottom photo shows a close up of the Grand National trim plate in their 1987 Turbo-T. Unfortunately the lighting in the garage was not the best for taking photographs.
PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows their mint 1968 Z28 Camaro. The top right shows their 30th Anniversary Camaro. The bottom left shows one of the Buick banners he has acquired. The bottom right shows some of his Turbo Regal memorabilia collection.
MORE BREAKING NEWS -
Our best selling brake system over the last several weeks has been the Hydratech Hydro boost conversion kit. On our other hydro-boost kit we have wiped out Cardone of their rebuilt 1984-1985 hydro-boost units. So you must call if you want the #7617 system. I am trying to locate another source for the hydro-boost units. Unfortunately, these will cost more. Right now all we have is the Hydratech hydro-boost conversion kit, which is part #7618. We will have another hydro-boost system available shortly that won’t have the stainless pressure hoses with it. This other kit will have rubber high-pressure lines and sell for less money. This way, as a buyer, you have several options to choose from depending on your budget.
But for now the only hydro-boost format we can get is the Hydratech system #7618. However, we do offer two vacuum conversion systems, the latest one is our part #7625 for $349.95. The price of this kit is quite reasonable since it includes the factory vacuum brake pedal for your application. If you have a stock 1986-1987 Turbo Regal and are looking at various brake options, this is one to consider.
There are two other items we highly recommend you do regarding your brake system. It does not matter which brake system you go with as both these items give a huge advantage to your brakes.
First and foremost, is to make sure the proportioning valve in your car is the brass one. If it’s not, since it’s located under the floor pan by the base of the firewall, it will appear to be a block of rust! It’s part #7189 and the price is just $49.95.
The other important upgrade is to replace the rubber hoses going to the front brakes. Rubber over time can swell. When it swells, the pressure is affected going to the front brakes. Unfortunately, these are on national backorder with the manufacturer until early August. It’s part #7218 and the price is $79.95. If you order now, we would not charge your credit card until we can ship them. We recommend you order now, so we have ample stock when they become available.
PHOTO 4 - I was at a local car show the other night and saw this 1986 3 series BMW fitted with a LS1 Corvette motor. The photo on the left shows just what a tight fit the LS1 engine is in a 1986 BMW 3 series. The photo on the right shows how the owner incorporated a hydro-boost brake system since space was at a premium under the hood. Without going to a hydro-boost format, he had no room for the vacuum unit on the firewall. As you can imagine, he had to extend the rod from his brake pedal to the back of the hydro-boost unit.
In our area there are actually two of these older 3 series BMWs running around powered by a LS1 Corvette engine. The other one I know for sure still maintains the stock rear end and stock BMW dash. Years ago my wife and I had a gorgeous 1987 BMW 325is model red with a black interior. It was a great handling car and had the most comfortable seats. The car was the test car for the very first cold air systems we made for one of the largest BMW suppliers in the country back around 1990.
We just had made a chrome-plated tube cover to slip over the cylinder on the hydro-boost units. We made two different lengths. The most popular one would be the shorter 3-½ inch one. Check out our New Products section below.
METCO HIGH-PEFORMANCE LOWER CONTROL ARMS -
We just got a set of these High-Performance Lower Control Arms from Metco, our part #7605. This is a very high-quality machined piece. Pieces are very lightweight; they only weigh about 11 pounds total. See the new parts section for more information.
We are getting this set put on our personal Turbo-T this week. This is just another upgrade to enhance your ride.
NATIONAL BACK ORDER -
The Russell stainless braided brake hoses, Part #7218, are on national back order until early August.
This is one of the easiest improvements you can make to your brake system, especially now that the stock hoses to the front brake calipers are now 25 years and older. Stainless does not swell. When you eliminate the swelling, the end result is a quicker pressure delivered to the front brake calipers. No matter what brake conversion you have in your car, this is one inexpensive upgrade that is well worth the price!
If you order now, we will not charge your credit card until we have them in stock. By ordering now, it will give us a better idea on how many we need initially.
HERE IS A DEAL ALL OF US MISSED -
Unfortunately, this was a deal all of us missed - bidding on a closed container auction in 1989 that sold for a mere $100. It turns out that the submarine car used in the James Bond movie “The Spy Who Loved Me” was inside the container. It sold in 2013 for almost one million dollars.
I have a friend that used to own a junkyard where I would buy parts. They sold the property and now him and his wife go around bidding on storage lockers that are unclaimed. He has yet to hit it big, but says it what they find can be interesting.
VEHICLES FOR SALE -
From time to time, whenever we spot an unusual or an exceptional car or truck for sale, or one we have for sale, we will put a blurb in our weekly Inner Circle. Also any cars that our customers have for sale will be featured here and you can see their car with photos on our website as well. In this category we will run the descriptions for two to three weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. Any new vehicles that we add will appear first, so the oldest listing would be at the end of this section. If any of these vehicles perk your interest, email me personally - [email protected] - for more information and photos.
FOR SALE - 1987 BUICK TURBO REGAL LIMITED - FOR SALE
Fully documented original North Carolina car with ultra rare option combination of Heavy Pad Landau roof, T-Tops, coach lamps, cornering lights, 6-way power driver’s sear, reclining passenger seat, and factory trunk kit, to name a few. Original Window Sticker, Bill of Sale, stock ID tag, and other sale and factory literature come with the car. The only aftermarket upgrades to the car are: Racetronix high-volume fuel pump and new wiring on factory hanger, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 160 degree thermostat, boost control valve, 3.5 inch mild steel down pipe, Hooker 2.5 inch exhaust (Sounds great), cold air intake with K&N filter, pillar mounted boost gauge, oil and temp gauges in overhead. FOR SALE - 1987 Buick Grand National - Same local owner for the last 13 years. Matter of fact, the owner is one of our M&M contest winners. The Grand National is well optioned with T-Tops, power windows, power locks, power seat, posi rear, power trunk release, cruise, and tilt. The owner has been a customer of ours since he got the car. He has done all the braces, vacuum brakes conversion, translater, and adjustable fuel regulator. Pete Serio adjusted the windows years ago as well. These are the main improvements that have been done. 58,000 miles. Prior to his ownership, the car was painted. He did install new front fillers several years ago, painted by our son Darrell Kirban. The exterior looks very nice, but some bubbling in the paint can be seen on the hood and roof area. No molding down the sides. He also bought a redone steering wheel from us about 2 weeks ago. Under the hood is original, meaning it has not been cleaned or touched. The interior needs some attention; the driver’s seat shows some wear and the door panels have worn look to them. Car runs out 100%. The owner is looking for $13,900. Car is located about 25 minutes south of our office. For more info and photos, you can email me - [email protected]
FOR SALE - 2009 OPEN UTILITY TRAILER - This is a 5 by 8 open utility trailer that has a railing around the outside that is about one foot up from the wooden floor surface. A matching height tailgate is on the back. The floor has been reinforced underneath as I used it to take Turbo Regal drive trains down to Richards place in North Carolina. It has a front mounted spare, which is included. It will need tires due to heat cracks. Price is $695 NEW LOWER PRICE. This is owned by our company and is in Kintnersville, PA.
FOR SALE - GNX #314 - The car is a two owner with the current owner having owned it for 16 years. It has been garaged and covered. Mileage is 10,542. Owner does have the jacket, but no book. Car is 100% stock runs and drives. The power antenna does not work and the fillers need to be replaced as they are showing cracks. Tires have been replaced. Paint and body is mint and car still retains the new car smell. I know the owner as I bought 4 turbo cars from him and his son over 10 years ago. I did see the GNX years ago. He has hardly used it as the mileage indicates. The price tag is $55,000. For more info and photos, email me direct - [email protected] The GNX is located in Maryland.

The control arms are designed to be installed as a direct replacement for the factory control arms, but offer the benefits of the dramatically stronger billet design and Energy Suspension-brand polyurethane bushings. Reproduction SHIFTER HANDLE BILLET ALUMINUM PARTS (6) KIT
These are the 6 internal parts for the factory shifter handle.
The factory parts are plastic and can break, or the chrome-plating can peel off the exterior bezels of the original console shifter handle. These reproduction parts are made in billet aluminum so they will not break. You only need to reuse your two external black plastic end buttons.
You can polish the 3 exterior bezels that come in this kit, so it would look factory.

BRAKE CONVERSION KITS -
1985-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
CONVERSION VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER KIT with VACUUM BRAKE PEDAL
This is another option to consider if you have a fairly stock 1985-1987 Buick Turbo Regal and want to switch from your original powermaster brake system. This kit comes complete with everything you need as shown. This unit comes with a REBUILT Cardone brake booster and a BRAND new master cylinder. The booster has a 9" diameter. The master cylinder and vacuum booster in this kit is exactly what GM used in 1986-1987 on a non-Turbo Regal application.
There are no clearance issues with this unit and the stock remote power steering reservoir. It also comes with our new vacuum block with gasket and hardware. It has the vacuum port similar to what GM used on the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. We also include 2 feet of vacuum hose and our new reproduction gasket to firewall.
The kit also includes a used correct Buick Regal vacuum brake pedal assembly. This pedal has the correct size pin and in the correct location so you can hook up the rod from the vacuum booster with no interference. You would get a Letter of Credit for $25 if you send us your powermaster brake pedal that you have removed and replaced with our vacuum pedal assembly.
Depending on our current core supply, we may be interested in your original powermaster brake unit for a Letter of Credit.
This booster uses the same factory holes in the firewall as the powermaster. The rod on this brake booster will only work with the vacuum pedal assembly that comes with this kit.
Since nothing gets cut or drilled related to the original powermaster, the original powermaster can be re-used should you want to convert back to the factory set up at a later date.
We highly recommend installation be done by a qualified mechanic, since you have to properly bleed the brakes and making sure the system is operating properly under all conditions.
Remember, your best option is always to stay with the factory GM powermaster brake system. This unit is only to be used with a stock or a fairly stock Turbo Regal. A modified engine or one with a performance cam would cause vacuum levels to be greatly reduced, which would could cause braking problems. One possible solution would be to purchase from Summit or Jegs an additional vacuum canister to retain proper vacuum levels.
When purchasing this part you may also want to purchase Part #7218 Stainless Braided Brake Hoses as these will improve the stopping ability.
For our rebuilt powermaster brake unit, See our Part # 7021 - 1985-1987 Turbo Regal - Rebuilt Powermaster Brake Unit.
However, if you have a STOCK engine, there is adequate vacuum to switch over to a vacuum brake system. We have another option: Our Part #7044 - Brand New Complete Vacuum Brake Booster Kit. This kit retains the original brake pedal because the booster has a different rod. Also both the master cylinder and brake booster are brand new. This is the major difference.
NOTE - A vacuum brake system is NOT recommended for a Turbo Regal with a modified engine or one with a performance cam because vacuum levels are greatly reduced, which could cause braking problems.
NOTE - Be sure to check out the other options we offer for converting the Turbo Regal brake system - Part #7044 Brand New Complete Vacuum Brake Booster Kit that works off the existing turbo brake pedal, Part #7617 Hydro-Boost Conversion Kit, or #7618 HYDRATECH Hydro-Boost System conversion.
NOTE - If you send us your original powermaster brake pedal, you will receive a Letter of Credit for $25. Depending on our current core supply, we may be interested in your original powermaster brake unit for a Letter of Credit.
NOTE - We recommend installation be done by a qualified auto mechanic.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING - As you read this issue, we are getting the Metco high-performance lower rear control arms installed in our Turbo-T and having it state inspected.
We have several other new products in the works. Watch for details.

ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -
Got any Turbo Buick parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected]. Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.
NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
