1982-1987 GM WINDSHIELD WASHER BOTTLE CAP -
We are correcting our website to show the GM Windshield Washer Bottle, Part #7237, is for ALL1982-1987 Buick Regal models, not just the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals, as we indicated. GM will probably end up discontinuing this container from their system before too long.
While researching the windshield washer bottle in the 44W GM book, I had a difficult time locating it because GM refers to it as a container, not a reservoir or bottle. Most owners refer to it as a reservoir or bottle.
It appears GM used several different caps specifically on the 1986 and 1987. In the 44W parts book in the description the cap includes the small hose and I assume the small filter at the end of the hose. The early 1986 took a 5/32 hose and the second design used a ¼ inch hose for the pickup in the container. From everything I have seen the actual container plastic cap all looked the same.
PHOTO 1 - We pictured 3 different windshield washer container caps related to the 1982-1987 Buick Regals. To my knowledge, the first one shown on the left is the most acceptable one as being correct for at least the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal models. It is this one you see on most original Turbo Regals. The one in the center of the photo is probably another GM version that I took off another GM car. The one on the far right I believe to be an aftermarket one. At this writing I am not sure if this cap has been reproduced exactly. I am sure more versions exist that use this same format with the pickup hose attached to the base.
THE HISTORY OF T-TOPS -
The history of T-Tops can be traced back to one individual who had it patented in 1951. In 1948 he built a unique car called the Tasco, which was an abbreviation for “The American Sportscar Company.”
The T-Tops feature remained basically unused in the car industry until the 1968 Corvette was introduced. The inventor of the T-Tops has much more credentials in his resume. His name was Gordon Buehrig. At the very young age of 25 he was the chief body designer for Dusenberg where he designed the famous J model. Later joined the Auburn Automotive Company in 1934 produced the famous 1935 851 Boattail Speedster. He also designed the distinctive Cord 810/812 models. He also did design work for GM, Packard and Stutz. In 1949 he went over to Ford where his projects, included the new 1951 Ford Victoria coupe. This would be the first year that eliminated the post on a two door Ford. Later the 1956 Continental Mark II was his work as well. He died in 1990 at the age of 85. In my opinion, to have worked on the designing for Dusenberg, Auburn, and Cord in one lifetime is nothing short of amazing.
It was during the 1970s that Hurst jumped on the T-Tops bandwagon. Playing off the Hurst name, it was called "Hurst Hatches." T-Tops probably got most of their popularity based on the hit movie "Smokey and the Bandit" where Pontiac Trans Ams had T-Tops. It became a very popular option on Firebirds and Camaros. It remained a popular option until the very end of Firebird production and through 2002 production of the Camaro. The really rare models for a Pontiac Firebird would be the Formula hardtop with a manual 6-speed transmission built in the 1990s. T-Tops were big sellers.
Along comes Buick with its turbocharged Regal, and makes T-Tops one of their options. Ford did likewise on their new Fox body in the 1980s, offering it even on their performance 5.0 packages. At some point Ford did stop offering T-Tops. My guess is probably because of structure issues or water leaks or both.
It was also popular for Buick dealers to take a hardtop Turbo Regal, especially a Grand National, and have T-Tops installed. Dealers saw this as a way to make more profit.
To an owner today, aftermarket T-Tops on a Turbo Regal can prove to be a nightmare. Partly because parts can be difficult to find and aftermarket T-Tops can kill the value on a premium example.
The noticeable difference between factory T-Tops and afternmarket T-Tops on the exterior is the width of the front header panel after the top of the windshield before the T-Tops. Most of the aftermarket T-Tops have a wider body section. The underside, of course, can best be described as crude on the aftermarket T-Tops unless they have had excellent care over the years. If you are not sure of what brand T-Tops you have, the trunk ID label can provide you with that answer. The factory T-Tops would have the code "CC1." If the CC1 code isn't on the trunk ID label, then you can be assured you have aftermarket T-Tops. GM refers to them as "Hatch" roofs in their parts system.
Back to the 1970s and the Hurst connection… Maybe 10 miles from our office sits a unique 1977 Dodge Diplomat for sale. I say unique, because it has a set of Hurst Hatches installed in the roof. Making this car more unusual is proof exists that go with the car that this car was purchased by Hurst when it was new. The purpose was to be fitted with the Hurst Hatches. When Hurst was finished with the retrofit, the car(s) were then offered for sale to the employees. The gentleman that bought this particular car was Hurst Chief Tool Designer and worked on many special projects, including the 1964 GTO shifter and the Hurst trim rings for the Hurst wheels. My guess is, if production did include the two-door Dodge Diplomat they could not have sold many of them. The car was not one that young people where buying to modify back when they were new. The biggest market even for GM was probably the Firebird and Camaro. It’s like our Turbo Regals T-Tops (or hatch roofs as GM calls them) was offered on a regular V-6 and V8 Regal but I am confident not many saw production. Grand Ma and Grand Pop were not spending another grand to have removable roof panels.
PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows the overall photo of the 1977 Dodge Diplomat it currently sits for sale. It has had one repaint. The top right photo shows the back end of the car. The bottom left shows a close up of the famous Hurst Equipped emblem. The bottom right photo shows an overall view of the Hurst Hatches. Notice how wide the header panel is above the windshield.
This car is currently for sale for $6,900. It is Pennsylvania inspected. It has been gone over mechanically and is road worthy. It is equipped with the 318 V8 engine. Air conditioning works and all records go with the car. It sat in a garage for 15 years. Car is an excellent driver and is in very nice, original condition. All documentation goes with the car proving its unique history.
It is kind of like having a 1986 or 1987 Turbo Regal and discovering that the one you have received the very first set of T-Tops for that year!
If the car strikes your interest, email me direct - [email protected]
When GM built convertibles at least during the 1960s the frames were boxed for added strength. It was even possible in 1966 and 1967 to order the convertible heavy-duty frame in a regular hardtop GTO. Pontiac also addressed any possible issues with the rear end twisting when they made available a set of rear reinforcement brackets mainly for the 4 speed applications. I know this for a fact since we have reproduced that design of braces for over 20 years. They actually fit every A-body GM car from 1964-67. My guess it was probably a cost factor and or the fact the rear wheel drive platform was coming to an end that nothing additional was offered to strengthen the Turbo Regals with the T-Top option. Turbo Regals with T-Tops had all that low end torque and you’re driving a car that a good bit of the roof has been cut out!
PHOTO 3 - Here is an original flyer depicting the Hurst Hatch feature for the Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Camaro 1973-1977 and the Pontiac Grand Prix and Firebird 1973-1977. These would have probably been the big years for sales of this option.
PHOTO 4 - Is a used original copy of the 16-page Buick Water Leak Diagnosis and Repair Manual for the Hurst/Hatch Roof 1975-1976. This is a very rare manual and proves that Hurst did make the Hatch roofs / T-Tops for GM.
More next week on Hurst/Hatches!
WE NEED YOUR INPUT -
We need your input if you have changed over to a dual fan format to cool your engine. I would like to know what year and what car model dual fan format fits the best to the stock radiator and can easily be adapted to the stock wiring harness. Since I go to various You Pull It Yards, I may be able to find some of these dual fan setups, which would provide better cooling.
HYDRO BOOST BRAKE SYSTEM UPDATE -
We have been researching the Hyrdo Boost brake system over the last several weeks. With several variations being offered, we are leaning toward offering more than one option. This way we can market something for everyone’s budget.
I am hoping to see some Turbo Regals at the upcoming Chicago event, so I can see a hydra boost system close up, besides the 1984 Turbo version. Currently, we have a thread on turbobuick.com under the lobby. It is titled "Kirban Request." If you go on there, you can see quite a number of comments and ideas that have been posted. All indications are pointing to the hydro boost format as being the best at having the least brake issues and tremendous holding power for ¼ mile drag racing. It certainly is a system that GM has used successfully in other later GM vehicles.
TRADE VALUE -
We are one of the few companies that accept items in partial trade towards parts you may want. If you have any NOS Turbo Regal parts or cores that we can use, email me direct - [email protected]. You can save money against the GNX wheels. Sometimes it’s easier to trade in parts you are not using and get something you want for your car in return.
I remember years ago, that is how I got our second test car - the 1987 silver Limited with the black-out package. The seller wanted a set of the new M&A Casting aluminum heads and money for his Limited. He wanted to put the new M&A Casting aluminum heads on his Grand National. I think the M&A Casting heads back then were around $2,500. We had one of the first sets on our Grand National years ago. Back then, I had no idea Buick even made a Limited Turbo model. The GNX wheels not only look good on a black Turbo Regal, but equally as nice on a white or a silver one as well.
GNX REPRODUCTION WHEELS NOW IN STOCK -
The new reproduction GNX-style wheels are now in stock for immediate delivery. Our first skid of wheels arrived late last week. The quality is excellent. See our Part #7219 on our website. Our back orders have been filled and we have a few sets still available before we have to order more.
This version has the zero offset, which means it is the correct offset to fit under the stock fenders of any 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. They are clear coated. Our kit comes with everything included. That means 4 wheels, 4 center caps, 4 GNX reproduction decals, 20 of the correct two-piece lug nuts, and 4 chrome valve stems.
Keep in mind that we also are interested in buying back your original Grand National wheels, if they are nice. You may want to do so to get back some of your costs, rather than have them sit in your garage or basement. Not many owners go back to 15 inch wheels and tires after they have 16 inch on their cars!

WANTED - A 1966 BONNEVILLE CONVERTIBLE -
We have a local friend who wants a car identical to one he had when he was younger - 1966 Bonneville convertible model. The car must have a black interior and black convertible top. He is willing to paint the car. He is not looking for a show car, and it doesn't have to be original and correct.
He is looking for one that he can drive and enjoy that will bring back memories for him, not a 95-point show car. He is willing to travel to find one.
Email me if you know of one for sale. He is a serious buyer. My email is - [email protected]
TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -
If you have a tip or a discovery that you found that works on your Turbo Regal, drop us an email giving us the details so we can pass the info on to our readers. Remember, even with my knowledge, I don’t know it all. Simply email me at - [email protected]
UPDATE CONCERNING SPOOLFOOL FILLER PANELS -
Currently we have a quantity of both the rears and fronts in stock for immediate delivery. If you reside near Pennsylvania, shipping on the rear one-piece Spoolfool filler is not that bad. It would run probably around $55 to $60, depending on your zip code.
The Spoolfool front fillers would be reasonable to ship anywhere in the U.S.A. as they are not oversized. Shipping has already been absorbed in getting them from Mike, the supplier in California, to our Pennsylvania location. Call our office for ordering - 215-766-1611 x 0.
NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -
REPRODUCTION AIR FLOW DUCT - FROM TURBO TO MAF SENSOR/AIR CLEANER -
We will have Part #7054, 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - Reproduction Air Flow Duct (from turbo to MAF sensor/air cleaner) in stock by mid June. Our supplier needed a bigger order from us to continue to make this unique hose with the stronger material. However, they did locate some additional inventory, which we will have soon.
The GM hose has been discontinued for over a year. The few sources that do have it sell them for $55 or more. This is a very unique hose. Our hose is superior material and fits the exact same way. The price will be $39.95 plus shipping.
RJC HEAVY-DUTY REAR MOTOR BRACE -
This heavy-duty rear motor brace is custom made by RJC Racing, home of the 2002-2003-2004 GS Nationals TSM Class Winner.
The brace was designed and manufactured by Jason in billet steel, and then powder coated black. The unique design allows the load of the motor to be on the rear of the engine, instead of the narrowest point by the engine mounts.
It is designed to support the block in high HP applications and to help the motor stay in place during hard acceleration and high-load situations. This simple device bolts into existing holes. It is very effective and does not transmit vibration into the driver’s/passenger side compartment.
In an extreme test, they used a Turbo Regal with bad motor mounts. With 2 lbs of boost, the motor shifted by about 4 inches. With no other changes (other than installing this adjustable rear motor brace) at 10 lbs of boost, the motor barely moved a 1/4 of an inch.
There is no vibration felt with this system, because of the rubber snubber at the one point. It is totally adjustable, so you can make it even stiffer for race conditions yet be totally streetable. This rear motor brace will also cut down on false knock sensor readings and puts less stress on the factory engine mounts. Since it is powder coated black, it will not rust.
This 1984-1987 Turbo Regal rear motor brace comes with all the necessary hardware and instructions.
The brace attaches to the bell housing on the driver’s side, using the longer bolts and adjustable snubber (supplied with the brace.) It rests against the bottom part of the frame as shown in Photo B.
Photo C shows how the rear motor brace bolts to the bell housing.
NOTE - This is the heavy-duty version, not to be confused with the earlier RJC rear motor brace we used to sell.
NOTE - If you are interested in this part, you may also want to consider Part #6891 Engine Mounts (2), or #6941 Rear Transmission Mount.
An excellent upgrade to cure the problem of engine movement under acceleration.

These roof rail weatherstrips fit all two-door hardtop models only.

Because of the age of these cars, in order to have tight door seals, these may need to be replaced.

1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Custom-Made REPRODUCTION WINDOW STICKERS
The most important piece of paper you can have with your car is the original Window Sticker, which gives all the important "history" of your Buick. It is also something that most buyers want when they purchase an original car. If yours is missing or damaged, we can have a reproduction made specifically for your vehicle.
It may also be called a “Monroney Label,” named after the Senator Mike Monroney, who originally proposed the law requiring a window sticker be attached to every new vehicle sold in the United States. This law was passed in 1958, so beginning with the 1959 model year every U.S. produced car had to have this label with each new car for the consumer to see. The bill required an automobile manufacturer to attach a label to the window of each new vehicle. This label would show the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price,) all standard equipment, all optional equipment and their prices, destination and delivery charges, federal, state, and local taxes, and prep charges. It may also show the average fuel economy. This allows a consumer to walk into an automobile dealership and find an itemized, accurate price tag on every new vehicle.
In the beginning, these were very basic, listing the dealer information and optional equipment. Beginning in 1962, salesmen used it as another sales tool as companies started to list standard items as well.
If you have a show car, having a window sticker is a definite asset to the value as it verifies all the options and dealer information from when the car was new.
These reproduction window stickers are all done by Triple A Enterprises. This company has been doing them since 1979, starting with the Corvette market and expanding to the other GM vehicles. He has appointed our company to handle all the 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regal requests for window stickers.
The 1986-1988 Buick Window Stickers were only done in black and white.
Most of the information to make a reproduction Window Sticker for the 1986 and 1987 Buicks can be found on your Service Parts Identification (SPI) label found attached to the inside trunk lid. This is also known as the “Trunk ID” label.
If your SPI label is missing, send us a complete list of all your factory options. With that information, we can list them in the correct order, with the correct ID codes, and correct manufacturer's suggested retail delivered price for the optional equipment installed on this vehicle by manufacturer. Be sure to list ALL the options, since this information is important for an accurate Window Sticker, which may also help when placing a value on your car.
However, that information alone from your SPI Label will not give you all the information needed to make your copy of your Window Sticker complete. The SPI label will not tell you the original selling GM dealership, the order number, nor the ramp code. In order to get this additional information, go to the GM Archives website - www.gmmediaarchive.com. Their fee is about $50 (2014) and, in most cases, they can provide you with a copy of the vehicle invoice. It is from that vehicle invoice that the original order number and ship to GM dealership can be determined. From the original dealership location, an approximate ramp code will be shown on your Window Sticker to correspond with the original dealership destination.
If you do not provide a copy of the vehicle invoice, these particular facts will not appear on your copy of the Window Sticker. However, in some cases, you may know the name of the selling dealership (ship to dealership,) and their city and state in other paperwork found in your glove box. You can note it to us when you order.
If you decide to not acquire the GM archive information, a Window Sticker can still be created, but the selling dealership will be left blank.
NOTE - Unfortunately our source CANNOT reproduce Window Stickers, if your car was initially sold in Canada. This is because parts of those Window Stickers may be in French and reflect Canadian prices, which are different from U.S. prices.
NOTE Regarding 1987 Grand Nationals - The Grand National originally was an option under the “WE2” code on the Window Sticker.
However, when they decided to produce an additional 10,000 Grand Nationals, those 10,000 were titled as a “Grand National” rather than a 1987 Regal 2 DR Coupe, which would not show a “WE2” under factory options on the Window Sticker.
For a 1987 Grand National, your car’s built date will determine how your Window Sticker will read. It will either be as a WE2 option or titled as a 1987 Grand National.
We offer various options. You can purchase 1 Window Sticker for the special year noted at the price noted. You can also order an additional copy at a special rate of only $10. You can have the Window Sticker(s) laminated at $5 per copy.
Your order will be shipped by USPS in a sturdy mail tube usually within 2-3 weeks of payment. First class mail shipping charge is $5.
ORDERING NOTE - When you place your order, you must send us a clear copy of the Vehicle Invoice and/or related information, and a clear photo of your trunk ID label. You can Fax it to - 215-766-1615 or email it to - [email protected] using "Window Sticker" in the subject line. You can also send us the copies - Kirban Performance Products, P.O. Box 1199, Plumsteadville, PA 18949. Be sure to give us your complete name, address and daytime phone number.
NOTE - Any laminated or additional copies have to be ordered with the first reproduction copy.
If you don’t have an original Window Sticker or yours is damaged, this is a great addition to your car’s reference material.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
OEM-STYLE BLACK OXIDE HOSE CLAMPS SETS
FOR INTERCOOLER, TURBO, MASS AIR HOSE and AIR CLEANER ELBOW
Buick used hose clamps that were finished in black oxide for the three intercooler hoses (6 clamps), the mass air hose and rubber elbow to the factory air cleaner assembly (4 clamps). These are the correct size clamps for the proper application, a total of 10 clamps.
We offer a kit for each or you can save a few dollars and buy both kits, so all the clamps are a matched set.
The intercooler clamp set is ideal to use with our OEM-style heavy-duty hoses, Part #7553, since that hose kit is an exact match to the original material Buick used on the intercooler hoses (the only difference is these hoses are slightly thicker.)
Black oxide is a chemical process and not a coating. The same company that does our chrome plating also has the necessary equipment to do the black oxide process.
NOTE - The clamp set for the intercooler hoses will also work with Part #7458 Intercooler and Turbo Heavy-Duty Hoses (3) Set, and Part #7553 Stock Appearing Intercooler and Turbo Heavy-Duty Hoses (3) Set, and Part #7045 Rebuilt Original AC DELCO Mass Air Flow Sensor.
NOTE - If you need any extra clamps, email our office for pricing - [email protected].
Another great engine restoration part to return your car back to original.

1984-1987 Regal GNX/TRANS AM STYLE 16” x 8” WHEELS (4) SET
Click on this link below for full details. Remember, of you want to buy a set from this current skid, you need to contact our office - 215-766-1611 x 0. You would not be charged until we ship you the wheels. Another skid will be ordered shortly.
1984-1987 Regal -
GNX / TRANS AM STYLE 16" x 8" WHEELS (4) SET
These GNX - TRANS AM style wheels have the black mesh center and are 16"″ x 8"″ with the proper offset to fit under the wheel wells of the 1984-1987 Regals. These resemble the popular original GNX wheels. This version has the zero offset. Do not confuse this with the version we have sold in the past, known as “Kirban-Style” GNX wheels.
These wheels are manufactured with brand new tooling and are clear coated. Wheels have the proper offset to fit under the fenders. We sell these as a complete set of 4 wheels, 20 correct lug nuts, 20 lug nut black caps, 4 chrome-plated valve stems, 4 black center caps, and 4 reproduction “GNX” center cap decals.
The original center caps on the original GNX were actually the existing Trans Am caps. GM simply affixed the “GNX” paper decal over the Trans Am medallion. This set includes the reproduction “GNX” Decals (4) Set, Part #7113.
If you own a 1984, 1985, or 1986 Turbo Regal, the GM front springs on these years were a different spring rate. You will need to change the front springs to avoid having the tires rub when you go over bumps. We recommend our front springs, Part #6566. If you plan on carrying heavy items in the trunk or four friends, we recommend you upgrade the rear springs to our variable rate rear springs, Part #1520 on any 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 Regal.
For shocks, the best ones you can buy are the Bilsteins to further improve the ride quality of your Turbo Regal. The overall height is actually slightly less than what is currently on the car. The speedometer is not affected.
Originally the GNX used 245/50s by 16s up front and 255/50s by 16 in the rear. For best results, we recommend going with 245/50s on the fronts and the backs. Depending on the year Turbo Regal and what suspension upgrades you have made, we do not recommend the larger 255/50s for the rear. However, if you want to go with 255/50s in the rear, trial fit these wheels first to be sure you have enough clearance.
The good news is these wheels will look pretty much dead on with the mesh black center that matches the original GNX mesh center. They are 100% brand new and weigh about 18 lbs each. Of all the available optional wheels, these are the most desirable and can really enhance your pride and joy.
Keep in mind, we will take good used original Grand National wheels in partial trade. This can help save you some money, since you also need to buy new tires.
Shipping generally costs about $65-$125, but we are offering a flat rate of $59.95 for shipping to any of the 48 contiguous states. Call for shipping for other states or Canada - 215-766-1611 x 0.

ALWAYS LOOKING FOR IDEAS -
If you have any product ideas that would fit our Turbo Buick market that you would like to see available, email me direct - [email protected]
ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -
Got any Turbo Buick parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected]. Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.
NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Exployer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
Remember, Pete and I are planning to be in Chicago for the June GN and T-Type Get together. We will be there for Friday night and Saturday.
If you want to save money on shipping on any of parts, let us know. We will not be set up as a vendor.
