REPRODUCTION GM LICENSED “RPO”-“SPID” TRUNK ID DECALS -

Owners refer to the SPID decal as the RPO decal part or trunk ID decal, but it is all the same.

We now have the 1987 decal (our part #7836) available providing you scan or have a clear photo (or jpg) of our car’s original decal and email it to - [email protected] The GM #14085266 is the one that we can currently get reproduced by ECS Automotive Concepts. This GM number appears in the lower right corner of your label.

From what I have read, some late-production 1986 Turbo Regals may have this later decal. As long as the GM number is #14085266, we can get it reproduced. ECS Automotive can only work from a copy of your original decal. This is a critical item, since the decal has your VIN number on it as well.

The 1987 format was placed on the right side of the inside trunk lid and the 1984-1985-1986 was positioned on the left side of the inside trunk lid. Buick workers never positioned this decal exactly the same on each car.

See the New Products section for more information and link to our website.

PHOTO 1 - We show an original 1987 RPO/SPID decal on the left and is the new GM licensed reproduction on the right. NOTE - This reproduction decal was done based on another 1987 GM model, not a Turbo Regal. I removed it from a GM car in a junkyard. Watch for updates when ECS Automotive Concepts can reproduce the 1984-1985-1986 version.

MORE INFORMATION FROM THE 1987 BUICK PRESS KIT -

The original 1987 Press Kit also came with a series of color slides. Unfortunately, I can’t put my hands on where I had put these slides. However, I did have photos made from the slides several years ago and I found these photos.

PHOTO 2 - Shows the new 1987 white Turbo-T on the left. Again, you may be able to see that the car is missing the T emblem on the front fender and the Regal emblem on the rear quarter is positioned slightly lower than it was in actual production. Unlike the black and white photo in the Press Kit, this one is in full color. The photo to the right shows the 1987 Grand National. The only visible exterior change from the 1986 is that the grille is all black and the word “Buick” is now a small metal emblem on the lower left part of the grille.

PHOTO 3 - The photo to the left shows another angle of the new 1987 Grand National that I had made from the original GM slide. You can clearly see the new grille in this photo. I also found an 8 by 10 full-color Press photo of the GNX in my personal collection. This photo appears on the right. This may have come from a ASC Press Kit that I acquired years ago. Again, I can’t remember.

Coming next week, we will show more original Press Information on the 1987 Turbo Regals. The year 1987 marked the end of the run and was also the high point, as demand really increased for the Grand National.

1930s GAS STATION AND REPAIR SHOP -

Near our location is what I believe to be one of the oldest combination gas station and repair shop. It has been closed since the mid-1990s. This past weekend they held the first auction of several they have planned for the contents of the building.

This gas station appears to have never been remodeled or updated since it was originally built in 1932. It is huge with 4 oversized bay doors out front, plus more bays in the back. The typical roof extended were the gas pumps were at one time.

I went to the first auction this past weekend. I would guess there were several hundred people in attendance. It’s amazing the value of some of the items that were sold.

They sold cases of oil and miscellaneous parts that, besides having 30-plus years of dust on them, seemed worthless to me. It appears they are holding some of the better items for a later auction, which will involve a Dodge Power Wagon tow truck and lots of old signs, etc.

I saw a case of Ohio road maps brand new. I saw stacks of 1994 calendars. It appears this garage saved everything. I did see a brand new early 1960s 4-barrel Carter AFB carburetor. There are lots of potential buyers looking for that gem among lots of dust! There are two gas pumps, maybe 1970 vintage, showing prices of like $1.24 a gallon. It was probably the last time this place was open for business.

My guess is the property will soon be put up for sale. More than likely the building will be demolished. It’s a shame as it would make a cool shop for a restoration business since it appears to be untouched from when it was built in 1932. Obviously, it needs to be updated, from top to bottom and inside!

PHOTO 4 - The top left photo I took earlier in the week as I pass this place about every 10 days or so in my travels. They did auction off the two Mustangs, neither had seen the road in years. The top right photo shows the Dodge Power Wagon tow truck that will be auctioned later in August. The bottom left photo shows what would make a neat ornament in your yard. The bottom right photo shows 2 of the tractor trailers that sat in the back of the property. This one appeared to be stainless, so it has held up. If I had to guess, I would say it was from the late 1950s.

HERE IS A UNBELIEVEABLE STORY

Every year around this time I get our property tax bill as I believe everyone does in Pennsylvania. In our local newspaper, it said that one township in Bucks County actually had a surplus. It happened because they were able to track down and get over $800,000 in payments from owners that had been delinquent in the past.

It turns out they had a cool million dollars in surplus funds! So, they hired another cop and they sent out a $68 refund to about 14,361 residents that own property in that township. Of course, one of the township supervisors was against issuing a refund. Fortunately, he was overruled!

ANOTHER CAR FOR SALE -

Again, this is one I helped get for the used car dealership where I hold a salesman license. This car is a tremendous value.

The car is a 2008 Volvo XC90 all-wheel drive 3.2 litre V6, black on black and really looks sharp. No paint fade, no clear coat issues and no dents! A one-owner car, garage kept, zero accidents. This is a highly-optioned car. All the books in the glove box, even the Window Sticker. Original sticker price was a tad over $44,000 when it was new. According to the parking permit, the owner was a Penn State person who worked at the Hershey Medical Center.

This super clean Volvo has 196,000 miles on it. The Volvo runs out super quiet and tight and is sporting 4 new tires. You can clearly tell this car has had amazing care since new, even the wheels show no curb hits and no corrosion. It has 3rd row seating that looks like it was never used. Car has PA emissions and inspection through 3/20/19. The car comes with 2 keys and 2 remotes. It has some service records. Own it for $4,495. Email me [email protected] for more info. Or contact Don at the 611 Auto Sales 215-801-1859.

MORE INSIDE STORIES FROM PONTIAC MOTOR DIVISION -

As I gather more tidbits from my source, whose brother worked at Pontiac for over 35 years, I will share his stories. Before retiring, the last project my friend at Pontiac worked on was the Solstice. My long-time friend was a suit-and-tie guy at Pontiac. Their family owns 3 of the ultra rare Solstice coupes today!

When they would conduct an air conditioning test, they would randomly take a new Pontiac off the line to evaluate it. This was at the Pontiac Plant in Pontiac, Michigan. The test he remembers was on a LeMans model.

The LeMans was placed in a heat chamber after being instrumented and the air conditioner was operated at full load. Data was collected as the temperature increased. Eventually it would get so hot in the car, the plastics in the interior literally would melt. After testing was completed, the car was cooled, inspected and the components were recycled. The test was done to evaluate the limits of the air conditioning system. It’s a shame that a new vehicle was ruined like this, but ultimately it was necessary to improve the product overall.

REPRODUCTION BLACK POWDER-COATED MARKER LIGHT TRIM SET -

Our supplier recently informed us the price of the marker light trim will be going up about $30 a set. We have one set currently in stock at the old price of $100 for the pair. You must contact our office 215-766-1611x0 if you wish to get this last set at the $100 price. It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.

We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1984-1985-1986 Buick Regal (All Models) -
and 1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
GM Licensed - Reproduction “SPID - RPO” CODES TRUNK LABEL

We offer GM Licensed reproduction SPID-RPO Labels, made by ECS Automotive Concepts. ECS also makes the GM Licensed VIN Door Decals we offer.

If you are having the exterior restored or if your label is damaged or faded, this is the time to replace it.

We need to have a copy of an original label in order to make either label.

NOTE - GM started to use the 1987 format partially through the 1986 model year. The reproduction you order will match whichever is on your car.

The 1984-1985-1986 labels have GM part #14065987. This label will be available at a later date.

The 1987 label has GM part #14085266 and is currently available.

IMPORTANT - They can only do it if you have an existing original label that you can scan or clearly photograph and email to us - [email protected]

They can NOT create a new label from scratch.

However, at some point GM did use the 1987 format on the late production Regals in 1986. So, it is important you see what GM part number is on your trunk label in the lower right hand corner of the gray bar.

The 1984 model was the very first year GM started to use the Regular Production Order (aka RPO) SPID label. In all cases, this label was put on the inside of the trunk lid. Generally, the 1984-1985-1986 was on the left side of the trunk lid and the 1987 label was on the right side of the trunk lid.

This label lists all the codes in alphabetical order, both options and features that came in your Regal. It also has your car’s 17-digit VIN number and the paint code.

Since it is VIN related, this is a critical label for any restoration. If your car’s label is faded or torn, we can get a exact reproduction through ECS Automotive Concepts.

Currently, we can only get the 1987 SPID label - GM #14085266. They are still working on creating the format for the 1984-1985-1986 label - GM #14065987.

Canadian delivered cars had a different SPID RPO label that is not available at this time.

NOTE - Allow 5-7 days for delivery. Label is sent Priority Mail from ECS Automotive Concepts

Another excellent replacement for any exterior restoration.

Buick Regal Trunk Label SPID RPO Codes - Buick trunk label - BACKGROUND INFO –

The Regular Production Order (aka RPO) codes can be found on the Service Parts Identification (aka SPID) label on the trunk of your Buick Regal.

Starting with the 1984 model year GM began implementing the SPID label program which entailed using an information label listing all of the options and equipment to help technicians service GM vehicles.

They not only included the RPO codes but also Buick paint and trim codes along with such information as spring and sometimes sub assembly codes.

There were several different labels used through out the four years that the (most common & favored) Buick Turbo Regal was built.

The labels used for 1984, 1985 and partially through 1986 was a white label identified by the part #14065987 in the lower right corner of the label.

These labels also have a protective clear tape over them.

Cars built for the Canadian market utilized this same basic label but with a French language description on the lower half with the part #14065989 in the lower right corner.

Part way through 1986 and for the model year 1987 GM changed the label and it now has the part #14085266 in the lower right corner. The protective clear tape was also not used anymore.

Information on 1987 Canadian market cars is not available at this time.

By ordering a certain option on the vehicle, or ordering a special package, the codes for these options/packages generate many additional codes that are all part of that specific package. These codes are then automatically forced onto the specific build order, and also listed on the SPID label.

Here is a link to this label on our website.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

The east coast heat wave finally broke this past weekend, only to return this week.

Like most of you, I have been praying that the kids in the cave get rescued alive. It seems it takes a tragedy for countries to band together and send help with various solutions to the problem those young boys are dealing with.
