Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 07-11-2012

MORE ON THE HARRISON AC COMPRESSOR CODE -

In last week's Inner Circle (07-05-2012) in the second set of photos, we showed the new reproduction Harrison Air Conditioner Compressor decal and pointed out what the code means on the label.

One of our customers sent us a good photo of a original Harrison AC compressor, which was taken off his Turbo Regal. Since the air conditioner compressor was removed from the car, you can clearly see the entire label.

PHOTO 1 - We show an original air conditioner compressor with the Harrison label in the top two photos. While it may not be readable, in the top left photo we show the area with the code number on this is - "032071." This stands for - March 20th 1987 shift 1. Based on this photo, the code number is not always very readable since it would have been changed very frequently depending on when it was produced.

In the lower photo on the left we show a strip of 7 of another label, the 1987 coil pack label, which we have sold for many years. It is actually an original label where the six-digit number is different on every single label on the rolls of labels we have. I can’t find any reference to this label in any of my books to know what the numbers mean. All the labels on the rolls I have include a six-digit number in sequence.

I bought these labels years ago from someone that worked at Buick in Flint, Michigan. I have enough original labels to probably last a lifetime. At the time, I bought them because I noticed the V6 logo on them.

At the same time I also bought another version that was used on the 1986 Turbo Regal coil packs. Unfortunately, we sold out of those a while ago. When I purchased these labels I had no idea what they were used on.

In the lower right photo we show another label, but I have no idea what year they are for. They closely resemble the 1986 Turbo Regal ones, which features the Hawk symbol and even say "Buick Turbo." Each label has a six-digit number in sequence. My guess is, this was used sometime during the V6 Turbo production, perhaps on an earlier Turbo Regal or on the Riviera Turbo V6 application.

PHOTO 2 - In our top photo we show the page with the 1986 and 1987 coil packs from our Winter 2005 catalog. The 1986 Turbo Regal coil pack decal has been completely sold out. If I recall correctly, it was printed in blue and red against a white background. These did not have any number on them on the rolls we had. This decal was square, unlike the rectangular 1987 coil pack decal.

In the lower left photo we show another label on an engine. Again, referring to the coil pack on the 1986-1987, one date stamp label that is easy to understand can be seen in this photo. This is off our personal 1987 white Turbo-T. It reads "2/19/87."

Our car also retains the original 1987 coil pack decal on the passenger's side of the coil pack, which is visible in the lower right photo.

This past Sunday I went to one of the largest car shows in our area, which features cars built prior to 1979.

PHOTO 3 - The top left photo is of a Studebaker Window Sticker from, I believe, 1961-1963 since it was for a Gran Turismo Hawk model. Years ago my wife and I had two of these cars. Back then, Window Stickers were quite simple as you can see.

The oldest car there was this 1910 Reo. The top right photo shows the engine in the 1910 Reo. The layout of the engine sure makes any adjustments rather easy to do! The Reo featured quite a bit of brass.

The lower left photo shows a custom built Peterbuilt pickup truck. I am sure this truck could easily pull any car trailer.

The lower right photo shows a twin Hemi power plant in a dragster.

PHOTO 4 - For custom work it was hard to beat this 1954 Pontiac that was sitting on a late-model GTO frame, powered by the GTO engine, which was also supercharged. The top left photo shows the actual front of the car. The top right photo shows the engine and the lower left photo shows the GTO interior in the 1954 Pontiac.

The lower right photo shows one of the strangest engine setups. It was on this open car street rod featuring a flat-head V8 engine with some sort of blower working with what appeared to be two one-barrel carburetors sitting on top. It looked like everything was custom fabricated.

SAD NEWS -

Over the weekend we received sad news that Fred Vetter's wife Donna passed away after a sudden illness. Fred and Donna were the original owners of Dynotech in New Jersey. Dynotech was one of the very early companies to work on Turbo Regals back when these cars were new. We became close friends with them as he worked on our very first Grand National and later worked on our Syclone. Fred and Donna were familiar sights at the various Mustang and Buick shootouts in Englishtown, NJ.

They would also attend the yearly GS Nationals in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Years ago they sold the company and moved to Florida. They were married for 30 years. This is a tough time for Fred.

At this point I have no other information, but I started a thread on Turbo Buick under the lobby. Here is the link -

JULY 13th COLLECTOR CAR APPRECIATION DAY -

Rick, a customer of ours in Illinois, emailed me about this Collector Car Appreciation Day.

Here is the link for more details -
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1076323_u-s-senate-designates-july-13th-collector-car-appreciation-day

Also, now that all the Turbo Regals are 25 years old, you may want to check with your state to see about getting collector car plates. This may save you a few dollars on your annual plates, but on the other hand it may restrict your driving. Having collector plates has its advantages and disadvantages, depending on how you plan to use your 25+-year-old Turbo Regal.

HARRISON AIR CONDITIONING LABEL CORRECTION -

It has been brought to our attention that there is a misspelled word on the Harrison Air Conditioning label, which our licensed GM supplier is now correcting. This same source will have the other labels, including the emissions and visor labels available shortly.

It includes a new upper speedometer cable, directions with a copy of the original ASC blueprints, a good used original gauge bezel, new applique, most important a pre-cut stock dash bezel. In other words, this is a complete kit read to install. You do not have to cut any part of your dash, you simply remove your dash and drop this one in. All the gauges are all pre-fit properly.

The only item you will have to buy to complete it is the proper plug-and-play harness. This is available from World of Motorworks. You have to specify if you have an analog dash or a digital dash when you order the harness.

The price for this complete GNX style dash is $1,995 plus shipping.

NEW PARTS & NEW LINKS -

We now have both kits available to repair a non-working power antenna for any 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. As long as your antenna motor is in good working order, either of these two kits will fix the antenna depending on what is actually bad.

Unfortunately, at this point in time, it does not appear that a new reproduction power antenna is being produced due to quality issues. Should the situation change, we will keep you informed.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
POWER ANTENNA CABLE REPRODUCTION REPAIR KIT

This is a brand new power antenna cable reproduction repair kit. It is just the internal plastic cable. It will only work if the metal antenna mast is not damaged and the motor will not shut off unless it’s unplugged. If the motor works, and the mast is not bent in any way, the internal plastic cable is broken or damaged due to age.

This is a new reproduction of the plastic internal cable complete with installation directions. This kit is ONLY the internal plastic cable. Your entire mast assembly MUST be intact and NOT bent. Your power antenna motor MUST still be in good working order for your power antenna to work once you install this new reproduction internal plastic cable.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE - We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected].
