Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 07-08-2020 –
INDEPENDENCE DAY CRUISE RESULTS –
The event at 611 Auto Sales drew about a dozen cars. The weather was very hot and humid.
I did have two customers show up for the event. Dennis McGettigan drove his very nice modified 1986 Grand National and Glenn Hoensch drove his rare SRT Magnum. Glenn has a 1987 Grand National that is apart in his garage. Even though there was a sparse turn out, there was a unique 1910 Reo that showed up.
This event was a milestone for me. It’s hard to believe, but this is the very first car event I been able to attend this year due to the virus. All the car shows in this area have been cancelled.
PHOTO 1 – The top left photo shows Dennis McGettigan’s real nice 1986 Grand National. His car has the reproduction G-Body wheels on it. The top right photo shows Glenn Hoensch’s SRT Magnum. Although I am not a fan of station wagons, this Dodge model has always appealed to me. The SRT model is quite rare to find today.
The bottom left and bottom right photos this extremely rare 1910 REO. This was an older restoration. It may be hard to see in the photo, but the engine has no cover over the valves so the oil just drips down the side of the engine. The steering shaft interlocks with a gear to steer the car. The wheels are all wooden. Looking at this 110-year-old Reo makes you wonder what cars will be like 110 years from now.
A FEW MORE USED AND NEW 1986 AND 1987 TURBO REGAL PARTS –
We have put together a few more Package Deals featuring some of the hard-to-find items for the 1986 and 1987 Turbo Regals. Some are new discontinued items. They are all listed in the Rare Parts section. The first part shown in Photo 1 has been discontinued by our supplier. These are brand new grey 1987 Turbo Reproduction grey door pull straps. The second part pictured we bought from our VDO gauge supplier. We never offered this style VDO cockpit boost gauge. According to our supplier, VDO has stopped making this cockpit-style vacuum/boost gauge. This VDO cockpit gauge shows vacuum up to 30 In Hg and boost up to 20 PSI. Both these parts are listed under Rare Parts for sale.
PHOTO 2 – The top left photo shows a brand new reproduction pair of the grey discontinued inside door pull straps. The top right photo shows the VDO cockpit series vacuum/boost gauge kit. The bottom left photo shows a used window switch, used brake switch, 3 rubber bushings for under the hood, a used wastegate clip, a used shifter handle clip and a rubber plug for the water pump nose. The bottom right photo shows 20 used GNX black plastic lug nut caps, 4 new chrome valve stems, 1 used original Made in England radiator cap, and 2 original coil decals.
OFFICE EQUIPMENT FOR WORKING FROM HOME –
With more and more people now working from home, we have a few extra items we do not use. These might interest you if you reside near us or know someone who does live near us. They are pictured below. They are listed with a price under the Rare Parts section. They must be picked up as we will not ship.
PHOTO 3 – The photo on the left shows a Copystar Model CS1820 copier/fax machine. This is a table top model to make 8-½ by 11 copies. The photo on the right shows a heavy-duty paper cutter. Both items appear under Rare Parts for sale.
A LOOK BACK AT MEMORIES –
While looking for something else, I discovered these two photos. Both were taken around the 1972 timeframe. We had just moved into our house at 1482 Sugar Bottom Road, in Furlong, PA. It’s the place where over 300 different Turbo Regals have gone down our road during the 1990s!
The picture shows 5 of the “toys” I had back then. This is besides Eileen’s 1972 Toyota Celica and I had at least one tow truck back then. A very unusual assortment of vehicles for sure! Both the Volvo 544 and the Studebaker Lark were supercharged. The 1947 Studebaker pickup truck was show quality and painted by the same shop that painted the 1949 Olds 76 Club Coupe in this photo. The Corvette was the rare 1963 split-window model. Rarer still was the fact the dash in the Corvette was never punched out for a radio!
The 1964 Studebaker Lark was one of my favorites. It was an ex-California race car that I bought at a Studebaker National convention in Indiana I believe for like $900. The car had maybe 25,000 miles on it. It was powered by a R3 motor with dual quads supercharged backed up by a 4-speed Muncie transmission going to a 1957 Pontiac rear with I believe 3.90 gears. It had steel black 15 by 7s wheels on the back with the baby dog dish hubcaps. I had a full exhaust installed and wiper motor, so I could make it street legal. The car was the perfect “sleeper.”
The car was a blast to drive as the sound of the supercharger back in the 1970s was virtually unknown to many of my friends. Being a Studebaker, the car was never taken seriously by other muscle car owners.
The 1963 Corvette I bought around 1970 for I believe $2,500. It would be hard to put a dollar figure in 2020 what those 5 vehicles would be worth today, but a rough estimate would be 6 figures. Finding a supercharged 544 Volvo or a 1964 Lark fitted with the R3 dual quad supercharger would be a real challenge since neither was factory original.
To this day, I have never seen any of these vehicles ever at any car show. These are all memories from almost 50 years ago. You can tell the house is fairly new as it lacks any shrubs or trees. You can see a partial view of the roof line of the 5-bay garage we had built before we even moved in. This is besides the 2-1/2 garage bays attached to the house.
PHOTO 4 – The photo to the left shows all 5 vehicles posed in front of our fairly new house in the 1970s. I think the house was about 2 years old. The photo to the right shows a very young Darrell waving the American flag on Sugar Bottom Road. It’s hard to believe that Darrell turns 50 years old next month. Time does indeed fly. He was into cars at a very young age.
A 5-PIECE KIT - THE LITTLE THINGS FOR ANY 1984-1987 TURBO REGAL –
We put together about 15 of these 5-piece kits. We have about 5 left. See the Rare Parts section. They are the “Little things that you should always have on hand.” See the Rare Parts section.
One item is a nice small rubber cap. It is not a factory part. It is a small rubber plug that seats nicely on the tip of the factory water pump. That exposed tip on the water pump always turns to rust!
DUAL FAN BRACKET FOR THE 1986-1987 TURBO REGALS –
We just approved the sample and the directions for this new bracket that will secure nicely the dual fan set up we sell. Even if you have the dual fan already installed, you will be able to purchase this bracket by itself. This bracket will secure the dual fan set up closer to the radiator and make for a nicer factory installation. Watch for updates and prices soon.
UPDATE - NEW MODIFIED JEEP LOWER STEERING SHAFTS –
We have several now being modified. See the Rare Parts section for prices. We will also continue to offer modified used Jeep lower steering shafts. To get on the list, you must email me direct [email protected] or [email protected]
The Jeep lower steering shaft has metal swivel joints at both ends which eliminates the primitive fiber rag joint that GM used for many years. Interesting enough, for the 1982 through 1992 Camaro they do make an upgraded lower steering shaft to eliminate the rag joint in those applications. Later Camaros and Firebirds have a metal swivel joint. The result is firmer, more precise steering.
AD - CAR FOR SALE - 1987 Buick Regal Limited Turbo-T -
Located on Saint Simons Island, Georgia since new. I am third owner and have had the car since 2003. Good driver, not a show car.
The good:
2019 all new air conditioning throughout with Kirban compressor and R134. 2020 swap powermaster brakes to hydroboost. Better performance and hopefully reliability. Same owner since 2003, garage kept since 2005. No body rust, straight panels. Repaint 2007, still looks good. Interior redone 2008 original power bench seat velour interior, shows some age, still good. Several reliability and performance upgrades (fuel pump, 40 lb injectors, Turbo Tweak chip, shift kit), original parts like air filter housing still available. All numbers matching powertrain, engine rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago.
The bad:
Close to 100k miles. Original digital dash swapped for GNX style all VDO gauge dash layout by second owner, original not available. Tires are low miles, but old enough to require replacement for performance driving. Spare tire and jack AWOL. Seat belt latch drivers side front missing plastic trim. 4 of 4.

We discovered that Fed Ex will not forward any packages that are sent to the PO Box or to our old address in Plumsteadville. Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.
If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use Fed Ex. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

Here is the information on our credits for cores.
STEERING WHEEL CORES. Currently we need good 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering cores. They must be straight and not have rusted spokes. We l issue a letter of credit of $100 for each acceptable core.
POWERMASTER BRAKE UNITS. Currently, we are accepting powermaster brake units. When we need cores, we give a $150 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core. However, you first must email me [email protected] a photo of the powermaster unit. Too many cores we been getting are in such terrible shape they are worthless to us.
TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock turbo. They must be complete. We will issue you a $150 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core. We urgently need these cores!
If you ship to us, the post office is the cheapest method. Pack the item(s) with a note with your name, address and phone number. This is the only item we are currently accepting as cores.

Good news - We now accept Classified Ads in our weekly Inner Circle emails. Over the years several customers have asked about placing an ad in our weekly Inner Circle.
Here are the options and the costs.
Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.
Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.
The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.
It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.
Our weekly Inner Circle reaches over 3,400 members every Wednesday direct to their inbox. The Inner Circle also appears every Wednesday on our website with the related photos. Your ad would be visible to both groups of readers. So, the exposure to your ad is well over 3,200 potential buyers.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
SEMI-BLACK EXTERIOR TRIM SPRAY PAINT
This spray paint is semi-black and is an excellent color match for the black-out trim moldings that was used on certain Turbo Regal models.
It is made by the same company that color matches the grey, dark blue, burgundy paint we also sell from this same source.
It dries within minutes. While many variations of semi-black exist we found this to be a very close match. Remember, no paint color is going to match trim that has been exposed for over 30 years of sun and weather.
This is ideal to do the taillight trim parts and the plastic headlight bezels.

REPRODUCTION AIR CLEANER DECAL (1) &
REPRODUCTION BRAKE SWITCH RECALL DECAL (1) SET
We are offering these two decals as a set.
The reproduction Air Cleaner Decal measures 1-5/16″ x 1-1/4″ and is white with black lettering, which is the identical size and color as the original.
It goes on the side of the top portion of the metal factory air cleaner box. There is no precise location but generally can be found on the side towards the driver’s fender.
The reproduction Brake Switch Recall Decal measures 2″ x 1″ and is white with black lettering, which is the identical size and color as the original.
There was no exact placement for where the Service Department would put the Recall decal showing it was completed. Generally, it was put on the core support near the Belt Routing decal. A date was written in along with the other related information, which showed the recall was completed. The recall related to the powermaster brake switch was not issued until the fall of 1990.

This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CRUISE RESULTS –
The event at 611 Auto Sales drew about a dozen cars. The weather was very hot and humid.
I did have two customers show up for the event. Dennis McGettigan drove his very nice modified 1986 Grand National and Glenn Hoensch drove his rare SRT Magnum. Glenn has a 1987 Grand National that is apart in his garage. Even though there was a sparse turn out, there was a unique 1910 Reo that showed up.
This event was a milestone for me. It’s hard to believe, but this is the very first car event I been able to attend this year due to the virus. All the car shows in this area have been cancelled.
PHOTO 1 – The top left photo shows Dennis McGettigan’s real nice 1986 Grand National. His car has the reproduction G-Body wheels on it. The top right photo shows Glenn Hoensch’s SRT Magnum. Although I am not a fan of station wagons, this Dodge model has always appealed to me. The SRT model is quite rare to find today.
The bottom left and bottom right photos this extremely rare 1910 REO. This was an older restoration. It may be hard to see in the photo, but the engine has no cover over the valves so the oil just drips down the side of the engine. The steering shaft interlocks with a gear to steer the car. The wheels are all wooden. Looking at this 110-year-old Reo makes you wonder what cars will be like 110 years from now.
A FEW MORE USED AND NEW 1986 AND 1987 TURBO REGAL PARTS –
We have put together a few more Package Deals featuring some of the hard-to-find items for the 1986 and 1987 Turbo Regals. Some are new discontinued items. They are all listed in the Rare Parts section. The first part shown in Photo 1 has been discontinued by our supplier. These are brand new grey 1987 Turbo Reproduction grey door pull straps. The second part pictured we bought from our VDO gauge supplier. We never offered this style VDO cockpit boost gauge. According to our supplier, VDO has stopped making this cockpit-style vacuum/boost gauge. This VDO cockpit gauge shows vacuum up to 30 In Hg and boost up to 20 PSI. Both these parts are listed under Rare Parts for sale.
PHOTO 2 – The top left photo shows a brand new reproduction pair of the grey discontinued inside door pull straps. The top right photo shows the VDO cockpit series vacuum/boost gauge kit. The bottom left photo shows a used window switch, used brake switch, 3 rubber bushings for under the hood, a used wastegate clip, a used shifter handle clip and a rubber plug for the water pump nose. The bottom right photo shows 20 used GNX black plastic lug nut caps, 4 new chrome valve stems, 1 used original Made in England radiator cap, and 2 original coil decals.
OFFICE EQUIPMENT FOR WORKING FROM HOME –
With more and more people now working from home, we have a few extra items we do not use. These might interest you if you reside near us or know someone who does live near us. A LOOK BACK AT MEMORIES –
While looking for something else, I discovered these two photos. Both were taken around the 1972 timeframe. We had just moved into our house at 1482 Sugar Bottom Road, in Furlong, PA. It’s the place where over 300 different Turbo Regals have gone down our road during the 1990s!
The picture shows 5 of the “toys” I had back then. This is besides Eileen’s 1972 Toyota Celica and I had at least one tow truck back then. A very unusual assortment of vehicles for sure! Both the Volvo 544 and the Studebaker Lark were supercharged. The 1947 Studebaker pickup truck was show quality and painted by the same shop that painted the 1949 Olds 76 Club Coupe in this photo. The Corvette was the rare 1963 split-window model. Rarer still was the fact the dash in the Corvette was never punched out for a radio!
The 1964 Studebaker Lark was one of my favorites. It was an ex-California race car that I bought at a Studebaker National convention in Indiana I believe for like $900. The car had maybe 25,000 miles on it. It was powered by a R3 motor with dual quads supercharged backed up by a 4-speed Muncie transmission going to a 1957 Pontiac rear with I believe 3.90 gears. It had steel black 15 by 7s wheels on the back with the baby dog dish hubcaps. I had a full exhaust installed and wiper motor, so I could make it street legal. The car was the perfect “sleeper.”
The car was a blast to drive as the sound of the supercharger back in the 1970s was virtually unknown to many of my friends. Being a Studebaker, the car was never taken seriously by other muscle car owners.
The 1963 Corvette I bought around 1970 for I believe $2,500. It would be hard to put a dollar figure in 2020 what those 5 vehicles would be worth today, but a rough estimate would be 6 figures. Finding a supercharged 544 Volvo or a 1964 Lark fitted with the R3 dual quad supercharger would be a real challenge since neither was factory original.
To this day, I have never seen any of these vehicles ever at any car show. These are all memories from almost 50 years ago. You can tell the house is fairly new as it lacks any shrubs or trees. You can see a partial view of the roof line of the 5-bay garage we had built before we even moved in. This is besides the 2-1/2 garage bays attached to the house.
PHOTO 4 – The photo to the left shows all 5 vehicles posed in front of our fairly new house in the 1970s. I think the house was about 2 years old. The photo to the right shows a very young Darrell waving the American flag on Sugar Bottom Road. It’s hard to believe that Darrell turns 50 years old next month. Time does indeed fly. He was into cars at a very young age.
A 5-PIECE KIT - THE LITTLE THINGS FOR ANY 1984-1987 TURBO REGAL –
We put together about 15 of these 5-piece kits. We have about 5 left. See the Rare Parts section. They are the “Little things that you should always have on hand.” See the Rare Parts section.
One item is a nice small rubber cap. It is not a factory part. It is a small rubber plug that seats nicely on the tip of the factory water pump. That exposed tip on the water pump always turns to rust!
DUAL FAN BRACKET FOR THE 1986-1987 TURBO REGALS –
We just approved the sample and the directions for this new bracket that will secure nicely the dual fan set up we sell. Even if you have the dual fan already installed, you will be able to purchase this bracket by itself. This bracket will secure the dual fan set up closer to the radiator and make for a nicer factory installation. Watch for updates and prices soon.
UPDATE - NEW MODIFIED JEEP LOWER STEERING SHAFTS –
We have several now being modified. See the Rare Parts section for prices. We will also continue to offer modified used Jeep lower steering shafts. To get on the list, you must email me direct [email protected] or [email protected]
The Jeep lower steering shaft has metal swivel joints at both ends which eliminates the primitive fiber rag joint that GM used for many years. Interesting enough, for the 1982 through 1992 Camaro they do make an upgraded lower steering shaft to eliminate the rag joint in those applications. Later Camaros and Firebirds have a metal swivel joint. The result is firmer, more precise steering.
AD - CAR FOR SALE - 1987 Buick Regal Limited Turbo-T -
Located on Saint Simons Island, Georgia since new. I am third owner and have had the car since 2003. Good driver, not a show car.
The good:
2019 all new air conditioning throughout with Kirban compressor and R134. 2020 swap powermaster brakes to hydroboost. Better performance and hopefully reliability. Same owner since 2003, garage kept since 2005. No body rust, straight panels. Repaint 2007, still looks good. Interior redone 2008 original power bench seat velour interior, shows some age, still good. Several reliability and performance upgrades (fuel pump, 40 lb injectors, Turbo Tweak chip, shift kit), original parts like air filter housing still available. All numbers matching powertrain, engine rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago.
The bad:
Close to 100k miles. Original digital dash swapped for GNX style all VDO gauge dash layout by second owner, original not available. Tires are low miles, but old enough to require replacement for performance driving. Spare tire and jack AWOL. Seat belt latch drivers side front missing plastic trim. 4 of 4.

We discovered that Fed Ex will not forward any packages that are sent to the PO Box or to our old address in Plumsteadville. Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.
If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use Fed Ex. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

STEERING WHEEL CORES. Currently we need good 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering cores. They must be straight and not have rusted spokes. We l issue a letter of credit of $100 for each acceptable core.
POWERMASTER BRAKE UNITS. Currently, we are accepting powermaster brake units. When we need cores, we give a $150 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core. However, you first must email me [email protected] a photo of the powermaster unit. Too many cores we been getting are in such terrible shape they are worthless to us.
TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock turbo. They must be complete. We will issue you a $150 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core. We urgently need these cores!
If you ship to us, the post office is the cheapest method. Pack the item(s) with a note with your name, address and phone number. This is the only item we are currently accepting as cores.

Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.
Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.
The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.
It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
SEMI-BLACK EXTERIOR TRIM SPRAY PAINT
This spray paint is semi-black and is an excellent color match for the black-out trim moldings that was used on certain Turbo Regal models.
It is made by the same company that color matches the grey, dark blue, burgundy paint we also sell from this same source.
It dries within minutes. While many variations of semi-black exist we found this to be a very close match. Remember, no paint color is going to match trim that has been exposed for over 30 years of sun and weather.
This is ideal to do the taillight trim parts and the plastic headlight bezels.

REPRODUCTION AIR CLEANER DECAL (1) &
REPRODUCTION BRAKE SWITCH RECALL DECAL (1) SET
We are offering these two decals as a set.
The reproduction Air Cleaner Decal measures 1-5/16″ x 1-1/4″ and is white with black lettering, which is the identical size and color as the original.
It goes on the side of the top portion of the metal factory air cleaner box. There is no precise location but generally can be found on the side towards the driver’s fender.
The reproduction Brake Switch Recall Decal measures 2″ x 1″ and is white with black lettering, which is the identical size and color as the original.
There was no exact placement for where the Service Department would put the Recall decal showing it was completed. Generally, it was put on the core support near the Belt Routing decal. A date was written in along with the other related information, which showed the recall was completed. The recall related to the powermaster brake switch was not issued until the fall of 1990.

Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
