If you were to even be lucky enough to find an original 1987 Buick Dealer album you would pay $250 or more just to get the Regal section that would interest you. Finding an actual 1987 Buick Press Kit is even tougher to find today. Most press kits after each model year simply got thrown away. I was lucky to get both of these many years ago. HEMMINGS MOTOR NEWS OCTOBER 2022 ISSUE - This is I believe a First for Hemmings Motor News putting a Grand National on the cover of Hemmings Motor News. Hemmings Motor News is considered the Bible for the Collector Car market. I remember putting ads in Hemmings Motor News in the late 1970s listing the GTOs I had for sale and also the Mopars I would sell.. I usually priced the GTOs around $1,000 to $1500 each. Actually, I sold most of my cars through Hemmings back in the day. Hemmings did a Buyers Guide on a 7 page spread on the 1986/87 Grand Nationals. I actually heard from the owner of the Grand National they used for the exterior shots. The car belongs to Tom Kelly out of Arizona. The picture of the engine compartment in the article is not his engine compartment. The article lists the values for 1986 and 1987 Grand Nationals from a low to average to high. Here are those numbers for the 1986 price range: $20,000, $40,000 and $80,000. For 1987 expect to pay $25,000, $45,000 or $85,000. That is quite a range from low to average to high. I agree for a basic driver needing a full restoration, yes expect to pay between 20 and 25 grand. The high value car needs to be exceptional and low mileage and I don’t think either the 1986 or 1987 is yet in the 80 to 85 grand range. Exceptions would be collector auctions where bidders with deep pockets can get caught up in the excitement and get carried away if it's something they want regardless of what it costs. It is a shame the article did not touch on the T-Type, or Turbo-Ts or the rare WE4 or Limited models. It did touch upon the issues of the powermaster brake system and the growing popularity of the vacuum brake format. Perhaps they are saving that for another issue in the future? PHOTO 2 - We show the cover of the October 2022 Hemmings Motor News and pages from the article they did on the 1986-1987 Grand Nationals. I WENT TO A SMALL LOCAL CRUISE THE OTHER WEEKEND - Although due to the extreme heat it was poorly attended, I did see two cars that caught my interest, especially the back story with both of these cars. One was a 1940 Ford Coupe. The other was a 2009 Mustang Cobra. The 1940 Ford coupe. Attached to the side glass was the original faded yellow paper receipt dated in 1960 when the owner gave a $10 deposit against the $100 he paid for the 1940 Ford coupe along with the picture of the car. The 2009 Mustang Shelby Cobra had a 3-ring binder with the cover on the binder with the wording the Price is Right Shelby. Turns out the car was a giveaway on the Price is Right TV show back in 2009 and the current owner bought it from the winner of the Cobra along with all the paperwork. Although I forgot to take a picture of the actual car, the vanity license plate says it all. Car was won in California and now is in Pennsylvania. Paperwork shows it was a $45,000 car. More proof that every car has a story. Some stories are more interesting than others! PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows the original receipt for the $100 paid in 1960 for the 1940 Ford coupe alongside what I assume was a picture of the 1940 Ford coupe I at that time. The photo to the right shows the car at the show. The bottom left photo shows the album cover on the Price is Right Cobra. Binder was full of all the paperwork and the fact the car was won on the TV show. The photo to the bottom right is the vanity plate on the 2009 Cobra. The top right photo shows an original factory am/fm radio with cassette, flip down license plate holder, and an original used Made in England radiator cap. The bottom left photo shows a brand new 1986 T-Type 1:24 scale, pair of used seat belt guides, a NOS original correct radiator overflow bottle cap and a glossy black powder coated spare tire metal washer. The bottom right photo is quite unusual. A brand new I would guess from the mid 1960s Esso gas lightweight summer jacket showing a Tiger tail with the quote put a Tiger in your Tank along with a metal pin. Jack appears brand new, never worn no stains. Also shows an original GTO record. The record is mint but the sleeve does show wear. All these items can be found in the Rare Parts section for sale. We all have searched for a good used car usually done in a hurry because your current car died. Fortunately, because I have several cars I can take my time and seek out the outstanding examples. Miles is never a major concern if the owner has a stash of records, garaged the car etc and so on. A QUICK WORD ON THE TURBO REGALS WE REPRESENT - Especially concerning the Turbo Regals. I know personally I would not want to travel several hundred miles to look at acar that maybe 6 other potential buyers looked at and did not buy for various reasons. This is due to the fact we have a huge supply of cores and we have no exact time table when our supplier will get brake bowls. Everyone is in the same boat that rebuilds powermaster brake units. The key ingredient is the brake bowl. TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock turbo. They must be complete. We will issue you a $150 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core. We need cores now. Or we will pay $135 cash for each complete stock turbo core. BRAKE PEDALS we issue a letter of credit for $50 for each powermaster brake pedal or we will pay $40 cash for each pedal. MASS AIR FLOW SENSORS we need original non cracked 1986-1987 Turbo Regal mass air sensors. We issue a $40 letter of credit for each unit. They are a gamble for us as some of these can’t be rebuilt.
