THE HARDBOUND GNX BOOK -

Many of you are familiar with the hardbound GNX book that was published in 1988. Unlike some books, this book only had one print run.

The GNX books cherished the most would be the individually numbered books that Molly would send out to GNX owners once they provided proof they had a real GNX. While the idea was a good idea, it was difficult for some owners to get their actual numbered book or free GNX jacket. This was due in part because some GNX’s where bought and quickly sold at inflated prices. The next registered owner may not have been aware of the book and jacket or the previous owner had it and never offered it with the car.

To my knowledge, no one has pinpointed exactly how many GNX books in total were printed. My guess is between 1,500 and 2,500 copies. This is besides the 547 that were individually numbered. Years ago at the GS Nationals, one vendor from Michigan had over 100 or more he was selling. I personally have had probably close to 100 over the years, most of which were still factory sealed in the original brown shipping box. Years ago even the Sloan Museum in Michigan was selling them in their gift shop.

The unnumbered ones years ago would trade hands in the $25 to $50 range. Now a good buy would be $75 or less, if it's still in the original box.

It’s probably been about 12-15 years ago that I found out that Molly still had about 50 numbered books that where unclaimed. He figured he would never locate the owners, so he offered the remaining numbered books to me. I bought them and sold most of them. I kept two. One is shown in Photo 1 and I also have number 18. However, here is the unique part. Before I did the deal with Molly, I had him personally sign his name above the number, which makes these 40-50 copies very unique since it was not part of the original program. So, if you have a numbered GNX book and it is signed by Molly (and you didn't have him sign it), now you know why it was signed.

PHOTO 1 - The photo on the right shows the order form that Molly sent as a follow-up to his original letter to each GNX owner explaining about getting the GNX hardbound book and the free GNX jacket. He also offered to embroider your GNX car number on the jacket. From this order form you could also purchase additional jackets in any size for $69.95 each. Needless to say, most of us did not go for that deal, which would have been a great investment. The top photo on the left shows the GNX book cover, and the lower photo shows the page that Molly got numbered. His signature is also on this numbered GNX book Number 11.



QUICK GNX JACKET STORY -

Probably early 1990s my oldest sister, Doreen lived with her family in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania called Montrose.

I had sent her a GNX jacket as a gift and she would wear it. One day the school bus driver saw the GNX jacket and instantly knew it was a rare jacket and asked her how in the world did she get a GNX jacket? It turns out the driver had a Grand National.

My sister told him, "My brother sent it to me." and, of course, he instantly knew the name once she told him.

This system seems to be the most popular format for highly-modified Turbo Regals and provides the best stopping power over the vacuum and powermaster format.

As a company, we want to give you all the possible options to consider. The technology with the Hydro-boost system has come a long way since the mid-1980s. Even our 2005 Tahoe has a Hydro-boost brake system on it from the factory.

FATHER’S DAY CAR SHOW -

On Father’s Day I attended a car show that is near our house. This event usually gets about 100-150 cars and is held at a very nice setting in the country. The event features a wide array of muscle cars and street rods and even some seldom-seen-type cars. I spotted an older gentleman carefully dusting off a blue Cobra. The Cobra is probably the most popular car that has spawned copies of over the years. Even with the side pipes and wheels, most people that walked by assumed it was just another Cobra kit car.

One person happened to ask the owner a question and I overheard him say this one is very rare one of just seven made. At that point I stopped to learn more about the car.

It turns out he bought it back in the mid-1960s when it was brand new from Carroll Shelby. The owner was in the military then. He simply stored it and drove it maybe 100 miles. It sat until in 2002 when Carroll Shelby was releasing 40 Cobras that he had tucked away for the 40th anniversary. This car has the 40th anniversary emblems on it. Not being into Cobras, I don’t know all the exact facts on how it was titled.

Where it gets interesting is, of the 40 that were titled in 2002, only 7 where supercharged. This is one of those 7. What sets this one apart from the other 6 is in the summer of 2004 this car reclaimed the record for the fastest 0-100-0 for a U.S. made car. It was done with John Force driving it and has been documented. The Cobra did this in 10.9 seconds. The glove box door has Carroll Shelby’s autograph on it as well. For insurance purposes, the owner had to have the glove box door riveted on to ward off any potential thefts due to the value that Carroll Shelby’s signature brings today!

What I found amazing was the owner did not put any special sign on his Cobra identifying fact that it was not only a real one, but one that has such history associated with it. He told me it has been displayed in several museums over the years. That was another reason he had to rivet the glove box door.

The car can be bought for a cool $5 million dollars. It has been appraised for more than that. I can provide more information to any potential buyers that have the funds.

MORE UNUSUAL VEHICLES SURFACED NEAR US FOR SALE -

1964 COBRA - This car has been storage for 40 years and titled in 2002. Driven in 2004 by John Force to set the record for 0-100-0 times for a U.S. Production car. This was accomplished in under 11 seconds flat by John Force and documented. This Cobra is just one of seven that were supercharged of the 40 that were titled in 2002 on the 40th anniversary. This car can be bought from the original owner for a price tag of $5 million and includes extra parts and trailer. May be tough to get creative financing! Currently it is appraised for just over $6 million dollars. It is fully documented. 1993 CORVETTE - I do not have much information or photos on this car yet. This car is in Chicago and belongs to a long-time friend of ours who makes parts for us. It’s a 1993 Corvette anniversary model, red on red. Absolutely in mint condition, garaged its entire life, with a mere 4,000 miles on it. It will be priced very reasonably as they want to sell it. I will have more info and photos shortly.

1987 FORD BRONCO XLT - This is a two-owner vehicle, and never smoked in. It has a brand new rebuilt 2.9 motor with new crank. All the options work, including power windows, power locks, tilt, cruise, and electric push button 4 wheel drive. AC blows ice cold. It has new dual exhaust system with stainless steel mufflers. All the paint is original, except for hood and roof. Bronco is two tone blue and white. Current owner has owned it for four years. It comes with three extra sets of wheels and tires! No rust ever. If the engine would be detailed, this Bronco would be show quality material. Body and interior are show quality. It is that nice. The interior is flawless, nothing shows any wear issues. A Kirban quality vehicle that belongs to a local individual, who I first met about 20-plus years ago. He was a salesman at a local car dealership I used to tow for. He is asking $10,500 or best offer. You would be hard pressed to find a better example.

WE NEED YOUR INPUT -

We need your input if you have changed over to a dual fan format to cool the engine. I would like to know what year and what car model dual fan format fits the best to the stock radiator and can easily be adapted to the stock wiring harness. Since I go to various You Pull It Yards, I may be able to find some of these dual fan setups, which would provide better cooling.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

VACUUM BRAKES -

Currently we only offer the new vacuum brake system. However, we are working on making another vacuum kit that will include a vacuum brake pedal, a rebuilt booster and a new master cylinder. It will also come with a vacuum block with port and the vacuum hose as well. This will be priced quiet reasonable. Keep in mind, vacuum brake conversions are best suited for a fairly stock application. Modified cars decrease the amount of available vacuum. What some car owners do is to add a vacuum can, which basically is a reservoir to store vacuum. This is popular on older cars that have performance cams.



HYDRO-BOOST BRAKE SYSTEM UPDATE -

We now have two versions available in kit form. See New Products below and click on the link on our website. We hope to have yet another version available shortly. On a side note, we will also have a chrome tube available that you can slip over the cylinder on the hydro-boost system to make it better looking. This will be a two-piece design made from copper and brass, so once it’s chrome plated it will never rust.

We are doing two different lengths to cover the various cylinders on the hydro-boost units.

HYDRO-BOOST CONVERSION KIT

This kit is made up from mostly 1984-1985 Turbo Regal Hydro-Boost parts.

Before ordering this kit, it’s important you go on the internet, so you can have a complete understanding of what is involved to make this kit work on a 1986-1987 Turbo Regal in place of the powermaster brake unit.

That link shows how several customers have used 1984-1985 Turbo Regal Hydro-Boost parts in their 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.

You must have a powermaster brake pedal assembly in your car for this Hydro-Boost system to work. If you do not have an original powermaster brake pedal, we may have a used brake pedal available. If you need one, email - [email protected].

NOTE - This kit does not come with any directions.

It’s important you have a complete understanding from reading the thread on the internet, and have the mechanical skills to do the needed modifications to complete the installation. You will need to gently bend the pre-formed power steering pressure line to fit the 1986-1987 steering pump.

You have to decide which master cylinder you will need to purchase to use with this kit - either #7615 Early 1980s Buick Regal Rebuilt Master Cylinder for Hydro-Boost Conversion or #7616 1977-1982 Corvette New Master Cylinder for Hydro-Boost Conversion.

MASTER CYLINDERS FOR HYDRO-BOOST CONVERSION

We offer two different master cylinder options -

#7615 - Is the rebuilt master cylinder for a stock 1984-1985 Turbo Regal Hydro-Boost system. It will also work if you are converting a 1986-1987 Turbo Regal to a Hydro-Boost system.

#7616 - Is the new master cylinder if you are converting a 1986-1987 Turbo Regal to a Hydro-Boost system. Although this is a Corvette part, it is correct for the Hydro-Boost conversion.

The master cylinder pictured above on the left is an early 1980s Regal rebuilt master cylinder. The one on the right is a brand new 1977-1982 Corvette master cylinder that also works on most hydro-boost conversion kits.

NOTE - On the early Buick Regal master cylinder, the two inlets for the pre-formed brake lines are in the same order as the ones on the powermaster. The larger opening is towards the front and the smaller inlet is towards the rear or firewall. The Buick master cylinder is rebuilt. No core is required.

NOTE - The Corvette master cylinder the two inlets are reversed, meaning you have to carefully massage the two existing metal brake lines so they will screw into the master cylinder. We also recommend you only use a line wrench when removing and re-installing the brake lines. The Corvette master cylinder should be clear coated or painted cast grey, so it will not rust. The Corvette master cylinder is brand new. Although this is a Corvette part, it is correct for the Hydro-Boost conversion.

This bottle will fit 1978-1987 GM G-Body models, including the 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regals.

Over time, the original radiator overflow bottle has yellowed or deteriorated.

Although this bottle has been discontinued by GM, we have a supply of original bottles available while supplies last. Supplies are limited.

NOTE - This bottle does not come with the hose.

1984-1987 Buick Regal (All T-Tops Models) -
Reproduction GRAY HEADLINER

The T-Tops cars take a smaller headliner than a solid-roof Regal. This headliner is pre-molded to replace the sagging headliner in any 1984-1987 Buick Regal with T-Tops.

Headliner is gray, which will be a very close match for any Grand National, T-Type, or Turbo-T with a gray interior.

Because it is oversized, we have calculated shipping based on 20 lbs, so oversized shipping is configured accurately.

REPRODUCTION AIR FLOW DUCT - FROM TURBO TO MAF SENSOR/AIR CLEANER -

We will have Part #7054, 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - Reproduction Air Flow Duct (from turbo to MAF sensor/air cleaner) in stock by mid June. Our supplier needed a bigger order from us to continue to make this unique hose with the stronger material. However, they did locate some additional inventory, which we will have soon.

The GM hose has been discontinued for over a year. The few sources that do have it sell them for $55 or more. This is a very unique hose. Our hose is superior material and fits the exact same way. The price will be $39.95 plus shipping.

Ron Joseph informs me that the dates for the 2014 GS Nationals are October 15th thru 18th. The intent to move it to September has been shelved at least for a year, according to Ron. We will share more info as it becomes available. Also for the first time ever there will be an auto cross open to all cars October 15th and 16th. 2014. This year ALL vehicles are welcome to participate and have some fun, prizes will be given away and sponsors will be there!

HERE IS WHERE I WILL BE IN THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS -

This coming Friday, June 21st, Pete and I will be attending GM at Carlisle. We will be there as spectators only. We will only be there Friday!

The first week in July the GTOAA holds their national meet at the Double Tree Hotel at the Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. (Just outside of Pittsburgh). I am one of the guest speakers on Wednesday, July 2nd at 3 pm. I have spoken at several of the National events in the past. I will be there Tuesday thru Thursday. This event is open to all Pontiacs and since it’s the 50th Anniversary for the 1964 GTO, they expect a huge turnout.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.



NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.



IN CLOSING - I was lucky! Coming back from my Chicago trip, I started to hear what sounded like metal rubbing up front on my Tahoe once in a while. I was driving it my first day home, and the noise got worse. It turns out the left front wheel bearing went out. I also had to have a sensor replaced for the air bag. A few years ago I had a fuel pump go out on a Tahoe. It happend just one day after a major trip on my driveway.

I have been very fortunate to not have many incidents on the many road trips I have taken over the years.
