This kit would be correct for all 1981 through 1987 Regals that have the black trim. M & Ms CONTEST WINNERS -
The actual count of M&M in the glass was 608. I was amazed at how many guesses where under 300.
First place winner is Juan Rodriquez out of Illinois. He has been a customer of ours for over 15 years. This is the second time he has won a contest with us!
Taking second place was Thomas Maggio out of New Jersey. He has had his 1987 Grand National since buying it in 1987 and has been a customer since then.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE BUICK PORTHOLES -
The year was 1948 and Ned Nickles who headed up the Buick Styling Studio at the time, owned a 1947 Buick Roadmaster convertible. He had cut portholes in the front fenders. What is interesting is the original idea was to put flashing lights in the three portholes in each side. They wanted the lights to flash in sequence as the spark plugs fired.
Harlow Curtice, who then was general manager of Buick, saw Ned’s car one evening and liked the look of the three portholes and ordered his designers to work that feature into the designs in 1949 minus the flashing lights. In 1949 one of the portholes had a flexible conduit that lead to a hole in the inner fender and into the engine compartment to let the hot air out. (An idea that can be seen on the GNX today, which uses a louver instead). Buick originally called them “venti-ports,” which would become one of the longest lasting and most recognizable automotive identifying features of all time.
I had never heard the story behind the Buick portholes. Actually the idea of having the lights flash in each of the portholes would have been pretty neat. Today that would be a very easy option to install.
BMW is another car model that comes to mind that has a recognizable feature - the kidney-shaped front grill work, which BMW has used for many years. This article appears in the February 2015 issues of Collectible Automobile.
TWO GREAT MAGAZINES WORTH READING -
Two magazines I have always found interesting are Muscle Machines and Collectible Automobile. I always find the articles in both of these magazine interesting. Also their articles are not limited by space for each article. In many cases they show the car or truck during the process of being restored. While many of you may think these magazines cater to the older antique car market, our Turbo Regals now fall into that same category!

MORE NEWS ON THE MULTI-FUNCTION JUMP STARTERS -
We received our sample units of the new small multi-function jump starters. Also prototypes of another product they are working on for us.
The new smaller micro multi-function jump starter is slightly smaller than my wife’s Samsung Smart phone and weighs just under 7 ounces.
I wanted to give this new micro module the supreme test. My original goal was to go back last Saturday morning to that same salvage yard where the black Regal Limited is still sitting. It was that Regal that I did the initial test with the current module. That car has been sitting undisturbed for 8 years!
With Saturday temperatures at 10 degrees I was just not up to hiking back on the frozen ground to try it. Hopefully I will conduct the test with the new micro module soon on that same black Regal.
Our Turbo Regal has a completely dead AC Delco battery in it. It sits in our heated building at our house. (It’s a six-year battery that is now 8 years old!) It doesn’t even generate enough power to turn the interior light on when you open the door nor does the key even buzz when it’s in the ignition switch!
I tested the new micro unit and it started our Turbo Regal 8 times on a single charge before it failed! Keep in mind, this is jump starting a car with a 100% dead battery. I also tested it by jump starting a Suzuki motorcycle that had been sitting for over 30 days. This high-powered bike puts out 200 horsepower. Of course, our bigger unit started the motorcycle as well.
The company is still making a few changes in this new smaller module, so it is not yet available.
We have more of the larger modules in route to us. It is one of the most powerful ones on the market putting out 250 cranking amps and 500 peak amps for less than $100. It is this larger module that has very few limitations on what it can do. The new micro one does not have a flashlight.

1987 GAS MILEAGE GUIDE -
One of the most rare pieces of literature that has a connection to the Turbo Regal would be the 1987 Gas Mileage Guide. This particular issue was printed in October 1986. It is a 14-page booklet that lists all the car and truck models, foreign and domestic.
The Turbo Regal for 1987 falls under the mid-size grouping and was rated at 17 miles per gallon for city and 25 miles per gallon for the highway.

BREAKING NEWS - COIL PACKS & IGNITION MODULES -
We will soon have the correct-looking coil packs and ignition modules for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals available. In many cases, it is the harness connector on the coil module that can cause issues.
Both of these parts are made by the same company and have been properly tested by Richard Clark. The company even has a one-year Warranty on these two products.

Buick Turbo Regal) - Reproduction DIAGNOSTIC ALDL CONNECTOR PORT
This reproduction cover simply slips over the ALDL connector located under the radio/heater. It’s a nice finishing touch even though GM never put a trim cover on the Turbo Regals. However, this was a factory item on some of the 1980s and 1990s Corvettes.
These photos show the interior placement with and without the trim cover on the diagnostic connector port.

The original map sensor is only a 2-bar, which will not allow the boost reading to go above 20 psi.
The 3-bar map sensor was a factory item found in the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. This 3-bar map sensor allows you to read boost values above 20 psi.
It will work with a stock boost levels as well.
Another nice upgrade that allows proper reading of boost values above 20 psi, if your Turbo Regal is modified.

Buick Turbo Regal) - Reproduction DIAGNOSTIC ALDL CONNECTOR PORT
This reproduction cover simply slips over the ALDL connector located under the radio/heater. It’s a nice finishing touch even though GM never put a trim cover on the Turbo Regals. However, this was a factory item on some of the 1980s and 1990s Corvettes.
These photos show the interior placement with and without the trim cover on the diagnostic connector port.

Reproduction 3-BAR MAP SENSOR
The original map sensor is only a 2-bar, which will not allow the boost reading to go above 20 psi.
The 3-bar map sensor was a factory item found in the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. This 3-bar map sensor allows you to read boost values above 20 psi.
It will work with a stock boost levels as well.
Another nice upgrade that allows proper reading of boost values above 20 psi, if your Turbo Regal is modified.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
