ELECTROLUMINESCENT COACH LAMPS LIMITED -
ELECTROLUMINESCENT COACH LAMPS LIMITED - Fancy words for the C93 option, only found on a Limited model Regal. It's one of those unusual options that you would be lucky to see on more than one Turbo Limited at any major Buick event.
Personally, I can only recall having one Limited that had this $102 option.
This past week, prior to going to Spring Carlisle, I went up north to go junkyarding at a You Pull IT Yard that is billed as the largest one in the country. They claim to have over 10,000 cars. I didn’t have time to count them, but it took me four hours to walk just the GM rows. This is the type of yard you go to during the week to avoid all the weekend crowds. Armed with cash and renting their $2-per-hour wagon, I was checking their inventory row by row. I found 2 of the 1984-1987 Regals and 3 Monte Carlos among all the GM cars.
PHOTO 1 - The top photo shows an unusual padded roof on a G-body Monte Carlo that had an oval side window. The lower photo shows the 1987 Regal Limited that had the extremely rare electroluminescent coach lamp option. In this case, they were attached to the half-padded roof option. My guess is, this was one of those Limiteds where either the dealer or the original owner opted for virtually every option possible.
PHOTO 2 - In the photo on the left we show the outer diecast chrome bezel and the clear plastic lens that make up the electroluminescent coach lamp option. In the photo on the right we show the base part that has cracked due to age. The luminescent is transferred to the thin plastic strip that has two copper leads attached to it that go to the female socket that is behind the plastic base portion. Although not show quality this is something an owner would want as a spare, if they have this unusual option on their car.
The next day I went to Spring Carlisle as I had a free pass courtesy of Tyler Staley, Carlisle Events Manager, since I am conducting two seminars at the GM event in June. Although it was mid-week, there were a good number of cars for sale. I did not see one single Turbo Regal for sale, nor any Turbo Regal parts for sale on the entire grounds!
PHOTO 3 - In this top left photo we show a very nice redone Monte Carlo SS that was for sale. In the top right photo we show an unusual Buick 1989 LeSabre T-Type for sale. It is all original with the optional leather seats. This is a clean car that was fairly priced for $3,995, in my opinion. The 1989 model was the last year for that 3-year run of the LeSabre T-Types. One of my favorites can be seen in the lower left photo; a plain jane 1963 Ford two-door sedan. It was extremely well restored, packing a 427 under the hood. In the lower right photo we show the decal that was on the side glass. It says, "CAUTION: ALL WINDOWS MUST BE CLOSED FOR SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 120 MPH."
PHOTO 4 - In the photo on the left we show a completely restored 1940s Gulf Oil Rack with 24 period correct restored oil cans. It was priced at $1,150. In photo on the right we show a unique metal car. I have no idea if this was homemade or was part of some sort of amusement ride. It looked to be from the 1950s. I did not see any price tag on it.
BREAKING NEWS 1987 BUICK GRAND NATIONAL FOR SALE -
We handled the sale of this same 1987 Grand National about 8-9 years ago. I even trailered it to the new owner's house in New Jersey. This super mint original 1987 Grand National hardtop has a mere 5,290 miles on it. The owner drove it less than 100 miles, since he got it from us! I just saw the car again this past weekend.
According to the original sale, the car has only had 2 owners and it was stored in a heated garage. This Grand National is well optioned: power seat, concert sound II, am/fm cassette, power antenna (non working), map reading lamps, lighted visor mirror, power trunk release, power windows, power locks, posi, factory body side molding, tilt column, cruise, delay wipers, factory tinted glass, factory door edge guards. Also owner has the Window Sticker. Built date 11-27-87, which is very close to the end of production.
The car retains a very strong new car smell and the factory paint is one of the best I have ever seen. No fading, no heat cracks, the paint is that nice. This car has original tires with 1987 air in them. The only change is a test pipe was installed. Rest of the exhaust is 100% stock. Under the hood is all original, even the numbered spark plug wires. There are just a very few imperfections in the factory paint. The wheels are like new. Originally we did the missing body bushings, the connecting braces and frame braces.
This car literally looks like it's less than one year old. It's priced to sell at $25,900. Remember, it has less than 5,300 actual miles. No surprises here as the car has had the same owner last 8-9 years and not been advertised anywhere during that time. Also the seller has proof he got the car from me as he has retained the original ad. He actually bought it sight unseen and I delivered the car to him back then. This car is priced right for a potential buyer. You must email me [email protected], if interested and include your email and phone number so I can pass it on to the seller. He can provide photos, if needed. Keep in mind, it has traveled less than 100 miles since I sold it 8-9 years ago. The condition of the Grand National has not changed since he bought it back then.
CHECK THIS CONTEST OUT -
I don’t normally “plug” contests, but this one I feel is worth plugging for two reasons. First the drawing is held this month, May 18, 2013. So, your wait is not that long. The ticket prices are pretty reasonable. Just $25 each, or 6 tickets for $100, or 15 tickets for $200. (Smart money is to gamble the $200). You need not be present to win.
The prize? A 1970 Cuda fitted with a Viper GTS drivetrain backed up by a six-speed transmission. You can call toll free 866-563-2582 or go to alzbbq.com. Proceeds benefit the Brevard Alzheimer’s foundation. If you win, send me a photo to publish!
A BOOK I RECOMMEND PERSONALLY -
I like to read short stories, usually when I travel. The book is called “AUTOMOTIVE MYSTERIES MYTHS AND RUMORS REVEALED. It's a hardbound book with 252 pages. It includes all short stories of interest. Besides the ones you probably heard of like Bonnie & Clyde's car and James Dean's killer Porsche, there are many others you have not heard of. Example - the 1925 Bugatti that was dumped in a lake as a penalty for not paying duty taxes. This Bugatti has recently been rescued from the deep. One interesting chapter is about Smokey Yunick's 3/4-scale Chevelle. The book retails for $26, but I am sure if you go on Amazon or ebay (like I did), you can find a copy cheaper.
KIRBAN PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS ON YouTube -
We have been recording various segments on our products and information related to the Buick Turbo Regals, and we have posted them on YouTube. Keep checking back on this as we filmed several more segments last week.
Some segments feature products, their placements, benefits, or issues.
We recently recorded some more videos for our YouTube posting, which should be up very shortly.
In one of the segments I explain the LED dash lights we have available for the analog dash and the Low Fuel warning unit. There is also a segment on the Tinman cold air system.

REPRODUCTION AIR CONDITIONING HOSES (2) SET
This is a quality reproduction of the two main air conditioning lines, which go across the front of the engine by the core support.
The one set of fittings goes to the air conditioner compressor. One of the other ends goes to the drier receiver on the passenger’s side. The remaining fitting goes to the condenser towards the front on the passenger’s side.
These are identical to the original except the aluminum lines are not painted black like the originals. If you want them to look factory original, you can paint them.
In some cases, your originals may be cracked or severely bent from leaning over the front of the engine.
Another great engine restoration item.

RJC RACING BOOST CONTROLLER
Here is a clever product that will give you a little more instant boost.
Your original boost controller is very progressive. With this new RJC Boost Controller, it is no longer progressive, which means - if you have your boost level set at 15 psi, this lets your actuator stay shut until 15 psi, then it opens fully.
The end result is you have reduced turbo lag and it makes part throttle boost much more responsive and allows you to run a little bit larger turbo than you normally could with a stock torque converter. The car feels a lot more powerful.
The stock boost controller system is adequate for stock situations and boost levels. When you start to up boost levels to make more power, you may run into a problem. Once the wastegate actuator rod is shortened to achieve say 20 psi of boost, it will have very little travel left on the rod, so now when the load is high in third gear, the actuator can't fully open and boost creeps up.
By letting this boost controller control the amount of boost that the wastegate actuator "sees", it will eliminate boost creep.

LOOKING FOR IDEAS -
If you have any product ideas that would fit our Turbo Buick market that you would like to see available, email me direct - [email protected]
ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -
Got any turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected].
Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE - We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected].
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
I hope to see many of you this week at the Turbo Buick G Body Nationals in Burlington, NC. Drive safe.
Reminder - If you are attending the Turbo Buick Nats this week at Richard Clark's, we will be able to take any powermaster cores for credit. Also mass air flow sensor cores.
At this event, the core value for a powermaster is $75 Letter of Credit (since you won't have to pay shipping costs to us) and $25 Letter of Credit for correct 1986-1987 AC Delco mass air flow sensors. These prices are ONLY for this show.
