ALFRED “TREY” CREASE III MEMORIAL DINNER UPDATE -
We had about 18-20 of Trey’s friends attend for his Memorial Dinner last Saturday night. It was a great time as each person related stories about Trey and what he meant to each of us.
I even learned several things about Trey that I never knew. At one point Trey’s Father owned a pristine 1903 Cadillac that reportedly back then in the 1970s was the oldest car registered in Pennsylvania. At times, it was sad but other times it was funny as we all shared stories about Trey.
Personally, I am reminded of Trey every day I leave for work as I have his last car parked next to our pole building. It was also great to see some old friends that Eileen and I had not seen in several years.
PHOTO 1 - The top photos show the two displays that Eileen had made up showing photos of Trey. His sister Caroline even provided some photos of Trey when he was a youngster. The lower photo shows the lighted wall display we made as it now hangs in my garage.
PHOTO 2 - Shows the group of us that came to Trey’s Memorial Dinner.
LOCALLY TO US A 1986 GRAND NATIONAL HARDTOP IS FOR SALE -
This 1986 Grand National hardtop is within 10 minutes of our warehouse in Plumsteadville. It has been off the road since 2004 and has less than 50,000 actual miles on it. The paint appears to be original and has the usual crow’s feet in the paint, but the paint still shines.
The car is very well optioned. Options include, power windows, power locks, tilt, cruise, delay wipers, am/fm cassette with EQ option, analog dash, factory alarm, power seat, power antenna, posi, factory body side molding, and door edge guards. It does have aluminum front bumper support. Front and real fillers appear to be the old-style cheap fiberglass ones.
Here are the good points: Low mileage, under 50,000, and the interior is almost perfect. All the expensive parts of the interior are like new, meaning the seats and door panels, etc. are perfect.
It needs a headliner and visors. Doors shut nice and tight. Original wheels are all very nice. Body is very straight.
Here are the bad points: It has the factory exhaust, which needs to be replaced. Because it has been sitting in a barn, it has the usual rust on the frame and suspension parts. However, the floor panels are very good. Under the hood is not pretty. Again, due to sitting, it needs a hood liner, and complete engine compartment clean up and detail. At one time it did have a dump pipe as there is a hole in the passenger inner fender. It needs hood shocks, which would be expected on a car that has not been on the road in 13 years. It lacks the factory air cleaner box and oil tube and cap. I am not sure if the owner has those parts or not. Car needs tires and outside door sill weatherstrips.
All the bad points can easily be rectified. The 2004 inspection sticker proves it has not been on the road in 13 years. The miles are low miles. The 1986 is quite rare. It is a hardtop all the inside pallex material is like mint.
Turbo Regals are getting tougher to find, especially low mileage ones. This is one you can drive now with just fixing a few things such as the exhaust system. Then over the winter depending on your skill set you can detail the engine compartment and address other issues. The buyer would also get a 15% discount off any of our website parts they want for their new purchase.
Asking price is $17,500 firm. For more information and photos, email me direct - [email protected]
PHOTO 3 - We show 4 photos of this 1986 Grand National hardtop that has been sitting in a barn since 2004. The exterior and interior presents itself very well as the photos show.
MINI CONTEST -
In photo 4 we picture a 13-inch model of a 1963 Corvette. See Photo 4 for information on this mini contest.
The earliest correct email to my email [email protected] will be the winner. It’s best to respond within 72 hours as since I am confident one of our sharp members will have the correct answer. Contest is open to all our Inner Circle readers, except those connected with any of the Turbo Regal companies
You can only pick one answer.
PHOTO 4 - Shows a 13-inch long plastic model of a 1963 Corvette Sting Ray. The cord plugs into any wall outlet and the model had a specific function. What is your single guess as to what this car does? The first correct emailed answer will win a flip-down stay-down license plate bracket - a $25 value.
The answer will appear in next week’s Inner Circle. Good luck to all participants. Remember, you only get one single guess.
TURBO REGAL HEAD GASKETS -
Unfortunately, we can no longer get the original Victor Reinz head gaskets specifically for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. The replacement we offer is the Fel-Pro head gaskets that are specific for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. The part number remains the same, #7576. Without a huge demand and the fact that the cars are 30-plus years old, big companies in many cases will discontinue parts that don’t produce huge sales volume for them. My guess is this was probably the case.
HERE IS A BIT OF GOOD NEWS -
We have some of the upgraded lower steering shafts, part #7574, due in shortly. If you are on our waiting list for one of these lower steering shafts you will be notified. The price will be the same whether it’s a GM shaft that has been refurbished or the popular Jeep lower shaft. Both shafts have the metal joints at both ends, which eliminates the fiber rag joint. Again, in both cases, the vehicles these come out of are now getting older and older and are harder to find in salvage yards.
Even though the Jeep-style lower shaft has been reproduced, it does not easily collapse to install it in our Turbo Regals. I bought a new reproduction Jeep lower shaft and even my son, who has many skills, can’t get it to contract no matter what he uses to depress it! If you are replacing this lower steering shaft, we highly recommend you change out the bearing that is attached to the base of the main shaft. The part number is #7572. Our bearing kit is metal and the original one that GM installed was some sort of rubber seal, which in many cases, is probably broken by now.
GBODYPARTS.COM HAS MADE 18 AND 19 INCH GNX-STYLE WHEELS -
Brian has recently worked out the proper offsets so you can run 18 inch wheels up front on your Grand National and 19 inch GNX-style wheels on the back. This is possible without any modifications to the fender wells. Availability is expected in 2 to 3 months. In the meantime, it gives you time to upgrade your suspension with new springs and shocks! For more info, go to their website - gbodyparts.com
GM LICENSED DOOR JAMB VIN DATA DECALS -
As most of our readers probably realize, we can get the pair of door VIN decals reproduced exactly like the originals through ECS Automotive Concepts, who is licensed by GM to do them.
This is becoming a very critical item you want to make sure is on your GM car. Some states will not register a car if those decals are missing. Two states that have this law are Arizona and New Mexico.
Also, ECS Automotive Concepts has granted us the ability to offer this decal starting with the 1970 GM cars through 1989. GM first started using them in the Fall of 1969 for the new 1970 GM models. In other words, we can do even the older GM cars when they had a single blue door VIN data decal. Some of those earlier single blue VIN decals are cheaper.
We also have done several for other GM muscle cars as we get them done for Corvette Central’s Corvette customers. Our part numbers on our website for the Turbo Regal years are #7900-#7903.
2002 MONTE CARLO SS - FOR SALE -
I just saw this 2002 Monte Carlo SS for sale. This is a Kirban-quality car from any angle. One owner, garaged since new, and never smoked in. Car is show quality. Great color combo - silver with dark grey leather interior and well optioned. Even the alloy wheels show no corrosion and the headlights are still bright plastic. Actual mileage is just under 50,000. It is realistically priced. Email me for photos and price as I am seeing what special deal I can obtain for one of my customers - [email protected]
1955 CHEVROLET BEL AIR HARDTOP FOR SALE -
I spotted this 1955 Chevrolet Bell Air for sale the other day near our warehouse. It is two-tone - off white and light blue. Looks like an older restoration. Interior is outstanding as the seats almost look like they were redone with the blue material used in the 1987 Turbo-T cars. Car has been lowered and sits on wide mag wheels. Body appears to be stock, as is the dash. Some chrome work needs to be replaced. Car seems to be fairly priced at $25,000. Email me - [email protected] for photos.
PENNSYLVANIA ANTIQUE PLATES -
It’s hard to believe but our cars now qualify for antique plates. Doug, one of our Pennsylvania customers, applied for an antique plate for his 1987 Grand National. The random selected license plate the state sent him reads “OL87”!
REGAL GS SPORT SEDAN FOR 2018 -
I just read a short article about the new 2018 Buick Regal GS Sport that will be coming out soon. It will put out 310 horsepower backed up by a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Regal has a great looking front end on it. Brembo brakes will be part of the GS package. I am not sure where the 2017 Regal was produced but this one is being made in Germany. The price tag is between $35,000 and $40,000, depending on the options.
EVERY CAR PURCHASE OR CAR SALE HAS A STORY -
Every car purchase, or car sale has a story. Sometimes these stories can be interesting, funny or even sad. Here are two stories I was part of over the years.
One of the early low-mileage Grand Nationals I sold was an original 1986 Grand National with 50,000 miles on it. The buyer, Bill, worked in a school system in California, so he had his summers off. He flew out to purchase this 1986 Grand National we had for sale.
His plan was to take a leisurely trip across the country, taking the southern route with his newly acquired GN. This would be basically at least a 3,000-mile road trip in a used car! With the entire summer off, he was in no hurry to return to California. His plan was to enjoy the sights of the USA. He got a lot of “thumbs up” on the trip from other drivers.
Once he arrived back home, he called me to tell me the car ran perfectly and only suffered one flat tire during the trip. Bill and the 1986 Grand National are pictured on page 17 of my book, “Kirban’s Guide to Buying a Used 1986 & 1987 Buick Turbo Regal.” Bill would later duplicate the trip again when he purchased an Oldsmobile LSS from me a few years later!
One of the saddest stories was when I drove up to New England with my truck and trailer to buy a real nice, low-mileage Grand National from the original owner. He lived in a three-story apartment complex that had a building behind it with garages for the apartment owners. He had major health issues and could no longer drive or get around.
I remember going to his apartment and seeing Turbo Regal posters and diecast cars in his one room. He could not even get out of his apartment to show me his car, so he simply gave me the keys to get the car out of the garage behind his building.
He did have one last request from me, which I was more than happy to do. He asked me if could I please pull the car around front of his apartment so he could see it one last time before I took the Grand National. As you can imagine, I was more than happy to do it for him and it was sad to see him at the window as I loaded up his Grand National on my trailer. This story still sticks in my mind 20-plus years later.
WEDGE DOOR STOP -
We all have used the wedge-style door stop at some point to hold a door open. Our granddaughter, who heads off to Penn State this week, needed one for her dorm. I thought it was somewhat humorous that on the back of the package it actually spelled out in detailed directions, complete with an illustration, how to install the wedge door stop! I guess that eliminates phone calls to the company on how it gets used.
ONE COOL NEW GARAGE WALL DISPLAY -
This is cool garage wall display is one of the projects we have been working on the last several weeks. With access to several major You Pull Yards in a 60-mile radius, I been looking for a cool idea to market that is something that was Buick related, unique, and most of all something owners could personalize. I also wanted to make it happen for less than $100 retail. I think I found it.
While several Buick models have a one-piece taillight assembly on the trunk lid that includes the license plate, I wanted to focus on the smallest and lightest taillight assembly with a license plate area to use for this project.
I determined that the early 2000 Century models and Regals had a shared common taillight assembly on the trunk lid. The only difference was the Regal lacked the chrome trim around the top and bottom of the one-piece taillight assembly on the trunk lid.
One problem I encountered is, for every 2 I found, one had a busted or cracked light. I wanted only taillights that are close to mint. The other issue is, unlike older cars if the trunk was locked and you have no key, you can’t just hammer out the lock and insert a flat-bladed screw driver to pop open the trunk. Those cars have the lock assembly below the key hole for the trunk lock.
I was not discouraged! I now have several of each in stock. In each one we have replaced the 6 194 standard bulbs with the LED bulbs. This provides light from the red area as well as the two bulbs over the license plate area. I then install a small switch and power is accomplished with a 9 volt battery. Using a thin metal wire, I secure it so you can easily hang this on your garage or living room wall, if your spouse allows it. It weighs less than 5 lbs.
As a personal touch, you can put any of your old license plates in the center, a photo of your car, or a logo license plate. The ideas are endless. Several companies make plastic similar products based on the Corvettes.
Mine is the real deal, an actual Buick part. I even polish each assembly so it looks as close to new as possible. These cars are disappearing in the junkyards, so I try and get them every chance I can.
I know from things I have collected, I like the unusual items, and most unusual items are also rare.
I almost regret giving the junkyard the Yugo we had at our old house, rather than simply moving it up to our current house 12 years ago. I also got rid of the VW split-window van we had sitting and you can see what they bring today!
The price for our wall display is just $79.95 plus shipping for either the Regal version or the Century version. They are LED lighted and ready to hang. We now have some available for immediate delivery. See the New Products section for more information

1987 GRAND NATIONAL FOR SALE -
I am representing this 1987 Grand National for sale for the owner who resides in Florida. This car is at the top of the value chain and is, without any doubt, one of the best. It has been in the same family since it was new. The original owner bought it when he was single. Soon after, with a growing family, it became evident the Grand National was not a practical car, so he sold it to his brother who I have known for probably 20 years. His brother recently passed away and that is why the car is back down in Florida.
It has been made better than new. When I say better than new, it is mainly due to the fact it has had a very high-dollar repaint applied and everything has been freshened up.
I knew the brother that passed away quite well, since he was heavily involved with GTOs and even wrote a very detailed book on GTOs that is still sold today. He also had a GTO and was a very meticulous individual. His name was Eric White. The book he wrote years ago was titled, “GTOAA of America Pontiac GTO, GT-37 Illustrated Identification Guide.”
I will give a copy of Eric’s GTO identification book to whoever buys this pristineGrand National. Eric was very well known in the GTO world at the national level. I would see him every year at the National events during the 1990s. As a matter of fact, we discussed his new book and what he needed it to say since he was using GM logos, etc.
The Grand National is now in his brother’s hand, Kirk White, in Florida. They have every single document with this car since it was new. Plus, they even have the original Window Sticker. They also have every single repair receipt. Over $12,000 was spent on the repaint and to freshening up this car.
It still smells new! A smell that no company as of yet has ever duplicated. If they did, Corvette owners would line up to buy it!
The Grand National has almost every single option. The actual mileage is under 23,000 original miles. The car is 99% stock with the one exception being an aftermarket alarm system.
It has the stock powermaster brake system with the upgraded Cardone brake bowl. The car has used seat covers, which have protected the original seats. According to Kirk, he doesn’t believe anyone has ever sat in the back seat of this car.
This is a Kirban-quality car based in my numerous emails with Kirk and the fact I knew his brother from our mutual GTO connection for many years.
The new lowered price is $29,900. Keep in mind, receipts come with the car and the repaint totaled over $12,000. The repaint was only done because the car had such a poor paint job from the factory as many of them did.

URGENT NEED FOR CORRECT STEERING WHEEL CORES -
We have an urgent need for correct 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheel cores that are not bent. They can have minor rust on the spokes but cannot be pitted. If you owe us a steering wheel core, please send it in to get your core deposit back.
In order to continue this service, we have had to raise the core price. Without cores, owners can’t get a redone leather-wrapped steering wheel. Help us continue this needed service. We now issue a Letter of Credit for $100, if you have a correct 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheel core.

TIP FROM KIRBAN -
Whenever you need to replace the tires on an original 1986-1987 Grand National, make sure you personally speak to whoever is doing the project. You want to avoid having the tire machine grab the chrome surface and leave teeth marks on the chrome. Re-chroming original 1986-1987 Grand National wheels is quite costly, since the wheels need to be cut apart to be re-chromed.
TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

CUSTOMIZED BUICK TAILLIGHT LED WALL DISPLAY -
CHROME EDGE OR PLAIN
During one of my many trips to various junkyards, this idea recently came to me. It’s a cool way to offer an actual original Buick part that you can personalize in the section for a license plate.
Some of you probably save you old license plates or mementos from a previous car. Now you can mount your old license plate or logo plate in this unique wall display. Better yet, you can insert a picture of you and your pride and joy in that space (see photos.) The ideas are endless.
We purchase original taillight assemblies from used Buick Regal or Century models. Both taillight assemblies are vintage early 2000 models. These are not easy to find in perfect condition.
Each taillight assembly is pre-wired with 6 LED bulbs and a 9 volt battery with a switch. Hanging hardware is attached and the display comes ready to hang on the wall. You can light it up in your garage or work shop.
Each taillight assembly has been polished and cleaned. Display piece measures approximately 38" wide and weighs about 5 lbs.
We offer two versions. The version with the chrome edge (#KE-018) is from a Buick Century model. The plain version shown without the chrome edge (#KE-019) is from a Buick Regal.
NOTE- Some assemblies may have the Regal model or Century emblem still on the surface. It can easily be removed, since it is merely stuck on.
Our photos show both versions and 4 different ideas on what to put in the section where the license plate would normally go.
Here is a unique way to have something that you can personalize to your liking, and know that it is not something that has been mass produced since it is made from an original Buick part.
The top photo shows the wall display lit. The lower photos show ideas on how the license plate area can be personalized with a license plate or photo.
Our second photo shows the wall displays without any insert.

UNDER-THE-HOOD STAINLESS STEEL BUTTON HEAD BOLTS, SCREWS & WASHERS (110) SET
Here is an easy method to dress up the engine bay area under the hood by replacing the factory hardware bolts with a new button head stainless set.
Developed by a fellow Turbo Regal owner several years ago, we are able to make this set available to our customers.
Each set comes with easy-to-follow directions. Each piece in the set of hardware is clearly marked, so you can simply remove and install each bolt one at a time. We suggest you replace one piece at a time, and put the original hardware in the same marked bag for future reference.
The set includes -
Bag 1A & 1 - A set of bolts and screws that secure the fenders to the inner fenders.
Bag 2 - The set of bolts that secure the radiator top plate support to the radiator.
Bag 3 - The battery hold-down bolt.
Bag 4 - The core support plate bolts.
Bag 5 - The hood latch at the core support bolts.
Bag 6 - The hood latch on the hood bolts.
Bag 7 - The hood shock at the hood bolts.
Bag 8 - The hood hinges, top and bottom bolts.
Bag 9 - The inner fender ground screws.
Bag 10 - The header panel bolts.
Bag 11 - The bolts to secure the turbo shield to the turbo for the 1986 and 1987 Turbo Regals. If you own a 1984 or 1985 Turbo Regal, these bolts would not be used.
There is a total of 110 button head bolts, screws, and washers in this set - 54 button head stainless screws/bolts and 56 stainless washers.
The stainless steel washers in this set are two different sizes, so when they are installed correctly, they stay centered on the bolt. This makes a nice, even appearance.
Our photo shows the complete set and the directions that show where most of them go under the hood.
Excellent upgrade to replace rusty bolts for any under-the-hood restoration.

Drop-In Flush-mounted PIONEER AM/FM CD, AUX, MP3 player
complete with Harness and GM Flush Mount Kit
Some Turbo Regal owners may want to upgrade their radio to any of the various aftermarket radios available today.
One of our long-time customers, who owns a Turbo Regal, operates a mobile radio shop. He has made up this special kit using a brand new Pioneer DEH-150MP radio. He then pre-wires it to a special harness that will plug into the original Regal radio harness, so none of the factory wires get cut and spliced.
This Pioneer radio comes with full instructions and a remote. You must re-use the original factory brackets that attaches to the sides of the mounting bezel. The main photo shows the factory Regal brackets on the Pioneer radio. The radio does NOT come with those brackets. That photo shows the original radio brackets that you need to re-use from your stock radio to make this new mounting kit fit flush in the radio bezel opening. We do NOT include these brackets.
You simply attach the original radio brackets to the side of the kit. It comes with the proper hardware to secure the factory brackets to the outer radio bezel.
You can also buy the GM Flush Mount Kit by itself, part #7802. Then you can buy any aftermarket radio and use that mounting kit to have a flush mounted radio in your Regal. Most mounting kits do not use the factory brackets nor does it allow the radio to sit flush in the dash opening.
Another excellent replacement for any interior restoration.

RUBBER STOPPERS (13) SET
Over time, these small detail rubber stoppers can be missing, become hard, or broken. A careless repaint can also create overspray on the stoppers on the doors.
Just like original 30-year-old tires that become hard, so can these critical rubber stoppers, which makes them useless.
Although a minor part, these stoppers help keep the car rattle free, especially the 2 on the trunk lid. Once these are adjusted properly, the trunk lid will not rattle.
This set includes a total of 13 pieces - 5 under-the-hood stoppers, 4 for the door jamb area, 2 for the trunk lid, and 2 for the gas door.
Each set includes:
3 Round stoppers. These are the critical stoppers for under the hood. In most cases due to engine heat, these have become hard and are no longer pliable.
2 Stoppers for the fender-to-hood lip.
4 Stoppers for the door jamb area. A sloppy paint job can leave overspray on the 4 located on the door jambs.
2 Trunk lid stoppers so you can adjust the trunk lid to seat correctly. The originals may be missing or broken.
2 Stoppers for the gas door.
Even the rubber stoppers under the hood of my personal car were rock hard and needed to be replaced!
Unfortunately, the company we get these from does not offer a complete correct set for our cars. I have to include some from another source to make this set correct for the 1984-1987 Regal models.
Excellent replacement stoppers for any interior and exterior restoration.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

IN CLOSING -
We have several more new items coming soon. We should have two 1985 Regals next week to part out. We also may have a set of refurbished T-Type wheels available for sale.

If you are not able to see the Rare Parts section at the end of this Inner Circle, it is because you are not an Inner Circle member, but instead are reading this on the website.
EMAILS TO KIRBAN PERFORMANCE -
