GNX #331 FOR SALE -

This is the GNX we mentioned last week that is for sale. I hope to have better photos available later this week for anyone that is interested. When I was there last week, behind the GNX there was a John Deere tractor with a snowplow still attached to it. She is getting her son to start up and move the tractor so it is not behind the GNX. That way I can pull the GNX out of the garage for better photos. Interesting enough, I thought the John Deere tractor was maybe 2-3 years old at most because it was so clean looking. It turns out to be 12-13 years old! Her husband really took care of everything they owned. They even had 3 or 4 blankets on the trunk floor in the GNX, so the original trunk carpet still looks new. This is a Kirban-quality car that needs very little detailing to be show worthy inside and out.

The original 1989 Pennsylvania title not only shows the date of purchase, but also the actual miles in 1989.This is positive proof for the next owner of this GNX will have a very well documented history. Because it was strictly her car (she is now 80 years young), as a buyer you can be assured this GNX has no hidden surprises or disappointments.

I have personally known the owners for over a dozen years.

This GNX should be at our Spring Open house so you can marvel at how clean and original this car is.

PHOTO 1 - The top left photo shows the GNX #331 in their two-bay garage. The top right photo shows the engine compartment. You can probably see part of my battery jumper that I used to start it up. The bottom left photo shows the original 1989 Pennsylvania title. Her husband paid $30,000 for the GNX back in 1989. The photo on the bottom right shows the owner, Jean alongside her pride and joy - GNX #331. She has been the only driver since 1989. No young kids, no pets, and never smoked in. Jean used the car to simply do her errands and is one of the few GNX owners that really enjoyed driving it for many years. Reminds me of the first GNX I sold that had 175,000 miles on it.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN BOLTS ARE NOT PROPERLY TORQUED -

When I go to the annuals GS Nationals, I like to walk around the various Turbo Regals located on the show field. Almost without fail, I can usually find one or two things that the workers on the Buick assembly line just did not apply enough torque to the screws or bolts.

I remember years ago during the production of the C5 Corvette, it was determined that an assembly worker on the Corvette assembly line was actually tightening the battery terminals just past the specs, which in some cases ended up cracking the battery case and causing the battery acid to drip down on some of the wiring. Mistakes happen… I believe the wording car makers use is “Recalls”!

In the case of the Turbo Regals, if you have the optional power trunk release, it’s secured behind the trunk mechanism by a single 10mm head screw. It also latches in on the one side of the latch assembly. In some cases, this 10mm screw may be loose.

Another item to check is the plastic base collar on the steering wheel. I can remember when I was buying these cars, almost without fail, I would have to use my wheel puller and remove the steering wheel and tighten the three small screws that hold the plastic base collar to the backside of the steering wheel. It doesn’t matter if your car has 5,000 on it or 100,000 miles on it. In many cases, these screws are not tight. If you want to eliminate a rattle in the interior, chances are this is part of the cause.

PHOTO 3 - Shows the bottom side of the base collar on the 1984-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheels. You can see the 3 small factory holes were the screws go. I also show the 3 small screws next to the collar.

What reminded me of this was when I was picking up parts from my long-time friend who makes GTO and Buick parts for me. He was working on his Ford pickup truck on the driveway. I noticed on the wall in front of his truck was a busted crank pulley.

I asked him what happened? He said about two weeks ago he was letting his truck warm up on the driveway when all of sudden he heard a tremendous noise from under the hood. The nut that secures the crank pulley on the engine came off and took a chunk out of the crank pulley and a few plastic blades off the fan. Lucky for him, it happened as the truck was simply idling on his driveway. The damage would have been a lot worse had it happened while he was driving. The truck has about 100,000 miles on it and he bought it brand new. He never had any issues with the crank or the pulley. The nut and washer was nowhere to be found.

PHOTO 4 - The photo to the left shows both the broken crank pulley and the new replacement. In the photo to the right I show the fan and you can see the missing blades. No damage at all to the radiator or the shroud.

I remember a few years on the PA turnpike following a pickup truck that a large metal tool box fell off the back of the truck that scattered tools all over the interstate. Somehow I was able to dodge all of them.
So the lesson is, make sure everything is tightened properly.

Back in my towing days, I recall one instance where the cables that held the boom in place snapped when I had a 4,000-pound car on the back. The car came right up the tow sling and wedged against it. I could not move the truck or the car by myself. I had to get help and have the car lifted up off the tow sling.

JOKES AND PRANKS -

I am sure we all have pulled jokes and pranks on friends and families over the years.

Because it was April Fools Day last week I thought I would share two that I did years ago. One was not intentional as a prank to my brother-in-law and the other was intentional to my old-time mechanic that would travel with me to various Pontiac and GTO conventions.

In the early 1970’s, I would buy cheap used cars and resell them. Back then laws were not as strict as today. I would sometimes take my wife’s sister and a license plate off one of my parent’s cars, and then simply go get the car I was buying…putting my parents’ license plate on the back.

It was easy to get away with this back then, as most of the cars I would buy were usually nearby. One Saturday I needed a license plate but both my parents were going out for the afternoon, so I could not use their license plate.

My brother-in-law (who was only dating my sister at the time) was at my parents’ house working in the yard. At the time I really did not know him very well. I figured he was going to be several hours working at my parents’ house, so I simply removed the license plate on the back of his Pontiac station wagon.

Unfortunately, I guessed wrong and he went to pick up my sister and was pulled over by the local police for driving without a license plate on his car. He gave a pretty convincing argument that he had no idea where the license plate went. The police let him go without issuing a ticket. When he got back to my parents’ house and saw that I had his license plate, he was not amused.

This next one was a well-planned prank. In the 1980s I had one of those popular 13’ foot Scotty travel trailers. They were actually made in Pennsylvania. From year-to-year these small campers all basically look the same. I can remember buying new factory hubcaps for the wheels for around $9 each.

In the 1980s I would attend the GTO National convention and the Pontiac National Convention in the summer. Usually the two conventions were two weeks apart and most times several states apart. I would take my old-time mechanic, known as Big Bill, as he loved to travel and he especially loved staying in campgrounds. On one trip we pulled into this huge campground where the bathrooms where down a hill and all the campers parked around the main facility on top of the hill in a circle.

Big Bill had kidney problems, which meant he would have to get up in the middle of the night and use the bathroom. On this particular night, I listened for him to get up and walk down the long hill to use the bathroom. I got into my truck and drove the truck and trailer completely around to the other side of the ridge and waited for him to emerge from the bathroom.

As I watched him come out of the bathroom I could see he was bewildered as he could not locate my truck and trailer. Keep in mind, most campers have huge trailers or motorhomes. so spotting a small pickup truck and 13’ foot camper can be difficult at 3 am on a dark night. Big Bill did not appreciate the joke at all!

What made me think of this was a Scotty trailer was recently for sale near our house. Also my brother-in-law just traded in my old pickup truck he bought from me in 1989. It had over 220,000 miles on it. So, if you see a black sport side Chevy pickup truck around Spokane, Washington, and it has a badly worn Grand National steering wheel in it, it was my old pickup truck.

They are moving to Grand Island, Nebraska in the next 10 days or so.

GARY ROSS DAHL PASSED AWAY -

While his name - Gary Ross Dahl - may not be someone you know, the fad he created in the 1970s may be one you remember. He created the wildly popular “PET ROCK.” The smooth stone came packaged in a cardboard box with “care and feeding” instructions.

He had to be marketing genius to convince over 1.5 million people to spend $4 for his creation before the fad fizzled.

We should all be that lucky and develop a product that defies logic and yet makes people buy it.

DO YOU OWN A MOTORCYCLE, ATV OR SNOWMOBILE? -

We have made is a 23” long wire harness that you attach permanently to the 12-volt battery in your motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile, etc.

All of the various brands of battery jumper modules, including the one we market, have the same blue universal connector that plugs directly into the battery jumper module.

Our new special harness has that blue connector on it to plug into the battery jumper module. This makes it very easy to jump-start your motorcycle, ATV, or snowmobile, should the battery be dead. In many cases, on the newer motorcycles it can take 45 minutes or longer just to get to the battery.

We installed one last week on my brother-in-law’s 2012 Harley Davidson Electric Glide Limited Edition. Just imagine if you are on a road trip and your battery fails… you could be stranded. This harness eliminates that worry.

A friend of mine has a 2004 Yamaha Grizzly with a remote start and an alarm on it. Every spring his battery is dead. Last week he hard wired this harness to his Yamaha and pulled the choke out and it started right up.

It works on any 12-volt motorcycle, ATV, or snowmobile, whether it’s fuel injected or carbureted.

Each harness has the one-way circuit breaker, which is the same as the jumper cables in all the various battery jumper modules. This one-way circuit only allows current to go to from a battery jumper module to the battery - the current can’t go the other way.

By duplicating the length that is used by the battery tender’s harness, it assures you that this harness is long enough to get to it easily with any of the various battery jumper modules. It will easily pay for itself the first time you need to use it.

If you own a motorcycle, ATV, or snowmobile, and would like more information, email me - [email protected]

If you are a dealer email me for more details and wholesale pricing - [email protected] This is an ideal product to promote in your store and also to install on your customers bikes.

We will have full product information and pricing on this neat new product next week.

SPOOLFOOL REAR SPOILER CONTEST UPDATE -

Good News - Mike Barnard has confirmed he will be coming to our upcoming Spring Open House event, April 18th. He has also sent us a supply of each of his new rear spoilers.

Get to meet the man behind the popular one-piece rear filler panel that has been a hit since it was first introduced.

He also made two rear spoilers - one is the same as the original 3-piece spoiler, and the other is a one-piece design. The one-piece design simply overhangs the top edge of both rear quarter panels and is attached to the trunk lid.

Both spoilers are made in the same high-quality as his popular Spoolfool fillers. In most cases, the finish on them needs no work.

We have both rear spoilers available at our upcoming Spring Open House. In the meantime, Mike is running a contest, which will award the winner their choice of one of the new rear spoilers that he has produced.

The contest started on April 1, 2015 - April Fools Day!

You can request a “FUN METER” button when you contact our office. We have them in stock. The Fun Meter button is what you need for the contest.

1957 PONTIAC STAR CHIEF SAFARI - FOR SALE -

I spotted this 1957 Pontiac Star Chief Safari for sale sitting at my friend’s gas station near our shop. This is a ground-up restoration of an extremely rare Pontiac.

The Safari was Pontiac’s sister car to the more popular Chevrolet Nomad of the same vintage. From what I am told only 1,292 were built in 1957. Of that figure, I am sure it’s just a very small percentage of this model that is still around today. Over $20 grand was spent just in redoing the chrome. It has flawless black paint against a mint black and white stock interior. It is powered by a new Chevrolet crate ramjet 350 engine, backed up with a Richmond 5-speed going to a stock rear end. It has vintage AC and a GM tilt column. Exterior looks 100% stock, down to the wheel covers. Price is $62,900.

Email me - [email protected] for photos.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

If you have a tip or a discovery that you found that works on your Turbo Regal, drop us an email giving us the details so we can pass the info on to our readers. Remember, even with my knowledge, I don’t know it all. Simply email me at - [email protected]

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1984-1987 Buick Regal - All Models (including Buick Turbo Regal) -
REPRODUCTION DASH CONNECTOR SEALING GASKET

Over time, water can enter the interior due to a deteriorating dash connector sealing gasket. This can potentially create rust and water damage to the driver’s side floor and surrounding materials.

This new reproduction dash connector sealing gasket fixes the problem. It restores a weather-tight seal to the harness feed-thru location.

This is a critical gasket, since it’s for the dash bulkhead.

GM has discontinued the actual connectors.

If you are restoring the interior, this is the time to check to see if you need this part.

The gasket comes with very detailed directions.

Our first picture shows the actual gasket and the second photo shows the general area (indicated by a red oval) where this gasket is used.

Another great interior restoration item.

1984-1988 GM G-Body - All Models (Including Buick Turbo Regal)
AFTERMARKET LED UNDER-THE-DASH INTERIOR LIGHT BULBS (3) SET
& LED TRUNK or UNDER-THE-HOOD LIGHT BULB

This aftermarket LED under-the-dash interior light kit will replace both of the under-the-dash factory lights to the upgraded LED format.

GM used two different styles of sockets under the dash. It used a slotted socket on the driver’s side and a regular round socket on the passenger’s side.

This kit includes 1 round LED bulb for the passenger’s side and 2 of the slotted LED lights for the driver’s side. This will give you 1 extra slotted LED light. You can use this to replace the stock bulb for the license plate light in most cars. Because of its flat face, the LED will fit in the housing for the license plate light.

You can also purchase an extra passenger’s side LED light, if you want to upgrade the trunk light since it takes the same LED bulb. The same LED bulb will also work for the under-the-hood light.

LED lights greatly increase the amount of light over the stock glass bulbs, draws far less amperage, and does not generate the extreme heat like the original glass bulbs.

Our top left photo shows the original bulbs in the housings, and these replacement LED bulbs.

Our top right photo shows a single LED bulb, which can be purchased separately as a trunk or under-the-hood light bulb, Part #7664.

Our lower left photo shows the interior driver’s side.

Our lower right photo shows the interior passenger’s side.

NOTE - The round LED bulb may look slightly different than the bulb shown in the photos, depending on our supplier.

NOTE - The slotted LED bulb in #7663 will fit the driver’s side under-the-dash interior light or the license plate light on most GM G-Body cars. The round LED bulb #7664 will fit the passenger’s side under-the-dash interior light, the trunk light, or the under-the-hood light.

We also recommend you check out our Aftermarket LED Interior Light Panel, Part #7661. This would give you a complete kit of LED interior lights.

Excellent replacement items for any interior restoration.

Aftermarket LED Under-the-Dash Interior Lights Bulbs (3) Set - $12.95

1986-1988 G-Body - All Models (including Buick Turbo Regal) -
THIRD BRAKE LIGHT USED HOUSING WITH NEW BULB AND USED DEFLECTOR WITH LENS

In many cases, you may find that the third brake light socket may be burnt or cracked from heat or age. Also the deflector may become warped over a period of time due to summer heat over the years.

We now have good used third brake light housings available, complete with a brand new 1156 bulb installed. The socket and housing are in very good condition.

We also have good used deflectors with the red lens.

You can buy either or, if you purchase both, you can save $3.95.

We also recommend you check out our Third Brake Light LED Panel, Part #7660. It would be an excellent upgrade with the good used housing.

Excellent replacement items for any interior restoration.

1984-1988 GM G-Body - All Models (Including Buick Turbo Regal)
AFTERMARKET LED INTERIOR LIGHT PANEL

This aftermarket LED interior light panel is made up of 9 LEDs and can replace the fuse-style glass tube bulb found in the interior lights in all the 1984-1988 GM G-Body cars, hardtop and T-Tops models.

This panel consists of 9 LEDs on a panel. It will fit virtually every version of the GM G-Body interior light housings. The ends are specific to properly contact the factory contacts in the light housing.

We show the four versions of the G-Body interior lights that this LED panel will fit - the 2 pillar lights for cars with T-Tops, Oldsmobile Cutlass interior light, the standard dome light, and the optional map reading light. We also just discovered it fits all the third generation Camaros and Firebirds 1982-1992. It fits both the standard light and the optional map reading light format.

The LED panel is easy to install.

The benefits of this LED light panel are that it’s a brighter light and has wider spread of light over the glass tube format.

The LED panel draws far less amperage and does not generate the extreme heat like the original glass tube bulb.

These LED lights will greatly increase the amount of light over the stock glass tube light on cars with T-Tops. Our first photo shows an original glass bulb on the left and this LED replacement on the right.
Our second photo shows the 4 versions on interior lights, which can use this LED panel as a direct replacement.

Our third photo shows a comparison of lights. The top left photo shows the original fuse-style bulb in the ceiling light without the cover and lit with the cover on the top right. The lower left photo shows the LED light in the ceiling light without the cover and lit with the cover on the lower right.

If your car only needs one, you might consider purchased part #7662 with 2 panels. Then you would have a spare and save $1.95.

If you need to replace the interior lights in car with T-Tops, you will need to order TWO, part #7662 for $19.95 (save $1.95.)

Another great interior restoration item.

Aftermarket LED Interior Light Panel - $10.95

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
