Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 07-17-2019 –
NOTE - FRIDAY SCHEDULE – JULY 19th -
Due to several commitments, we will be short staffed this coming Friday, July 19th and nothing will be shipped. The phone may go to an answering machine. Website orders will be processed on Monday, July 22nd.
NEW MINI CONTEST –
Here is this week’s mini contest. No answer will be considered until AFTER 3:30 eastern time today, Wednesday, July 17th.
Among the motorcycle parts I purchased a few weeks ago was this pair of saddle bags. They appear to be leather and the side that goes against the motorcycle is metal. I assume these brackets (shown in Photo 1) go with it as they were with the saddle bags. However, no holes appear anywhere on the saddle bags for the brackets to attach. No name or part number appears on any of these parts.
They measure approximately 7 inches wide by 9 inches high by 24 inches front to back. The outer flap buckles in place and under it is a zipper compartment. It looks 100% brand new.
To be the winner I need to know what brand they are and what model/year motorcycles they would fit.
PHOTO 1 – We show several views of this pair of brand new motorcycle side bags. No name or part number appears anywhere on these saddle bags, or the brackets, or the small decoration part. No entry will be considered until AFTER 3:30 today. All entries must be submitted to [email protected] A prize will be awarded to the first winner that provides me with a company name and what makes and years motorcycles they fit. See the Rare Parts section as they can be bought for $159.95 plus $25 shipping for the pair with everything shown here. They appear to be new as the internal zipper still has paper on the tab.
LAST WEEK’S MINI CONTEST WINNER AND ANSWER –
The winner of last week’s mini contest was Robert Schlichtenmyer. The dash cluster is from a 1982-1985 Maserati Biturbo Coupe. The contest had a great response with a lot of correct answers. I even have two customers who actually owned one of these unusual cars years ago. Judging from the dash cluster I have, it shows a mere 3,000 miles, so the car I got it out of did not survive long on the road. I think I have had the dash cluster about 15 years.
RIP VW BEETLE –
In the papers last week I read where the VW Beetle production will come to an end. I remember the humorous printed magazine ads in the 1960s. It is hard to get excited about a car that virtually looked the same year in and year out and in its early years had about 36 horsepower. There is no denying the VW Beetle or “Bug” as it was called, was quite popular. A word of advice. If you are looking to buy one for collectability, find one with the split back window. Better yet, find the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray with the split rear window as that car is far more bankable and enjoyable to drive!
The newspaper article showed several Mexico VW employees all smiling wearing a T-shirt that said “#ByeBye Beetle.” I can’t understand why they are smiling as I would think with production ending so is their job on the assembly line!
Upon seeing that special T-shirt for that occasion, it reminded me of a T-shirt that another automotive company did years ago for their employees. Unlike the Beetle T-shirt, this T-shirt is from over 30 years ago and is quite valuable to a GNX owner. I have only had 2 of these T-shirts in the last 30-plus years. I am sure it has been reproduced but mine is original and has that aged look to it since it was not designed to be a lasting keepsake.
PHOTO 2 - I show an original ASCMcLaren GNX T-shirt that was given to the employees at ASCMcLaren that worked on the GNX project. I sold the second GNX T-shirt I had years ago to a customer of ours that owns one of the GNXs I sold. I think I got a few hundred dollars for it at the time. While nowhere near as valuable as an original GNX jacket is, the ASCMcLaren GNX T-shirt is one related item that many GNX owners may not even be aware existed.
50 YEARS AGO – JULY 16, 1969 –
50 years ago yesterday at 9:35AM EST, the late Neil Armstrong (passed away 2012), Edwin “Buzz’ Aldrin and Michael Collins launched Wednesday, July 16, 1969 from the John F Kennedy Space Center in Florida to start their journey of over 240,000 nautical miles from the earth to the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon four days later on Saturday, July 20, 1969. The Saturn Five rocket weighed 6.5 million pounds and reached a speed of 8500 MPH within 60 seconds of launch. The moon landing was watched by over 650 million people around the world on black and white television.
UPDATE “MAD MAGAZINE” –
I purchased the August issue of Mad Magazine. It appears at the time the August issue went to print, the writers were unaware that it would be the last issue. It is nothing special, plus it had a renewal card inside it!
UPDATE - 1987 ORIGINAL GRAND NATIONAL HARDTOP - FOR SALE –
Within the first hour that last week’s Inner Circle went out we had 4 inquiries on this 1987 Grand National for sale. Within 22 hours we had a deposit, even before the potential buyer saw photos of it. This past Monday morning the buyer came from New York to take delivery of the Grand National. Both the seller and the buyer were at our house to do the transaction.
Original paint 1986-1987 Grand National hardtops that are stock will always be in demand. While owners may modify them, when it comes time to sell the car some modifications may prove costly as many buyers are seeking a stock car. This particular Grand National had zero cracks by the quarter windows, and the doors shut like the car was brand new. The transmission shifted nice and crisp and the motor was quiet. Under the hood needed major attention as far as detailing goes, but the interior and body have been very well cared for. The demand for hardtops will always outweigh the demand for a T-Tops model. Again, this is based on my experience at selling Turbo Regals over the years.
PHOTO 3 – We show 4 views of this very nice original 1987 Grand National hardtop that we advertised last week and sold for the owner.
RIP DAVE WALDEN - CEO OF ECS AUTOMOTIVE CONCEPTS –
I heard from Cindy Walden, Dave’s wife, last week on the recent passing of her husband, CEO of ECS Automotive Concept. We deal with ECS reproducing the VIN door decals for various GM cars from 1979 thru 1987. Dave was just 58 years old.
Dave was very well known in the Chrysler-Mopar world. I believe he holds the record at the Mopar Nationals for winning Best of Show 3 different years featuring 3 different Mopars - a Cuda, a Challenger, and a Valiant. To win Best of Show even once is an impressive accomplishment and Dave did it 3 times with 3 different cars. His wins of Best of Show are quite impressive when you realize each event draws over 1,500 cars in competition.
Dave also built the only 1970 Barracuda 4-door sedan a few years back that was featured in several magazines including Hot Rod.
ESC Automotive Concepts never did any wholesale business with their door VIN decals prior to us entering the picture. I happen to contact them a few years back and the person that took my call said they did not do any wholesale for the VIN decals. I told the person to at least run my name by the owner, perhaps he knows of me.
Not only did Dave (the owner) know of me, he bought Firebird parts from us many years ago and we had a great conversation. The rest, as they say, is history and that is how we are able to offer our customers the critical door VIN decals on the driver’s door.
Not only does the original printing fade over time on those door decals, but careless repaints can ruin them. Also, if you change out the driver’s door due to rust or an accident, you can’t remove and reapply those critical decals as the lamination is designed to separate. ECS Automotive Concepts also makes the visor decals we sell, part #7472 for $12. The VIN decal set is part #7900 through #7903, depending on the year of your Turbo Regal and sell for $120 pair. They hold a license agreement for virtually every major car company today.
Some states and probably most auction houses will not register a car that is missing that critical VIN decal making it important to have. We also do this for several major Corvette suppliers. Dave’s wife Cindy plans to continue the business.
PHOTO 4 – This photo was taken in the summer of 2017 at the Carlisle event when Dave showcased his one-of-a-kind 1970 Cuda sedan. This was the first time I met Dave in person. Dave is on the far left, Jason Maxfield from Canada is in the center and I am on the far right. We are all showing that we still use the old school flip phones!
SPEAKING OF VIN DECALS –
A few weeks back this story was in our local paper. A drunk driver killed a lady crossing a major 4-lane highway at night. He hit her with such force that a part of his car was left on the scene. When the police came to investigate the accident, they quickly discovered that the car part that was left on the scene had a major clue - it had the 17-digit VIN number decal on the body panel. Within minutes they knew where that car was registered and quickly went to that location. They had their man and the car within a short period of time, all because of the VIN decal.
Many of the late-model cars have a VIN decal on every panel. This is one way to tell if the body panel has ever been replaced. They did not put VIN decals on the various body panels on the 1984-1987 Regals nor any other cars during that time frame, from what I recall. I’m not sure when the VIN decals on the body panels started, but I do recall the 1989 Turbo Trans AM has the 17-digit VIN number on every panel.
Many of the cars we bid on at the bid lots have the VIN decals on them. It is visual way to know instantly if the body panel is original to that car. If you inspect a car with the VIN decals and notice one missing on the front end, it means you should look it over very carefully to determine if the car was ever hit. I don’t claim to be an expert in this area, but if I see VIN decals, then I usually check every panel to see if all the body panels have the VIN decal.
HERE IS ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS –
A 49-year-old mother with 2 kids was arrested in Dixon, Illinois. She had purchased one of those blow-up swimming pools. She has an Audi Q5 SUV and realized she needed to weigh the swimming pool down on the roof to keep it from blowing off. Her choice for weighing it down was to place her two kids in the pool on the roof. I guess looking ahead pool manufacturers will now have to have a warning label on their inflatable swimming pools not to use children to secure the pool on the roof of your car!
MORE GOOD NEWS – JEEP LOWER STEERING SHAFTS #7574 –
Our supplier has sent me a few more of these desirable lower steering shafts, part #7574. These steering shafts replace the fiber-like rag joint the factory shaft has. The Jeep shaft has metal universal joints at both ends and is also a thinner design, which gives you more room under the hood on the driver’s side. This is a nice upgrade that offers several benefits over a 30-plus-year-old lower steering shift. You must email me direct [email protected] if you want one of these from this new shipment due in this week.
UPDATE ON THE TURBO REGAL WRIST WATCH –
As of this writing, I have a few Turbo Regal wrist watches left that have not been sold. The watches are now in stock. If you have already reserved one, you will get your watch or watches any day now. Again, if you want one, you must email me direct [email protected]. I have 3 or 4 left at this time. The price is $36.95 each, which includes shipping to the basic 48 states. See the Rare Parts section.
2005 PERSONAL TAHOE UPDATE –
The dealership did have a deposit on my Tahoe, however the buyer could not get financing. Getting a car loan is the issue buyers have when trying to buy a vehicle over a certain age. So, at this writing my 2005 Tahoe is still available. It is in remarkable condition and has always been kept up anytime it needed anything. All the fluids have been flushed as well over the years something that most owners don’t ever do. The price is $7895. The Tahoe has probably almost every possible option Chevy offered that year. We may consider partial trade since we have a sales license. You would look a long time before you find one as nice inside, outside, and underneath as nice as this Tahoe.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
