Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 04-03-2019 –
LAST WEEK’S TURBO REGAL TRIVIA QUESTION ANSWERED –
The answer to last week’s Turbo Regal trivia question is the Cimarron power passenger bucket seat. The main clue was that I said it was probably the largest option. Most guesses were incorrect. It’s been years since I have seen a Cadillac Cimarron in a You Pull It yard. The car was a flop for Cadillac as most Caddy buyers were not interested in a cheap smaller version of a Cadillac. The car was made from 1982 through 1988, basically the same years as the Turbo Regal.
I think it was Pete Serio that made the discovery that the passenger power seat from the Cadillac Cimarron was a direct bolt in to the Turbo Regals.
I know our third test car did get that cool upgrade. A few years later Cadillac would introduce another new model called the Catera. Production of that new model started in 1997 and ran through 2001. The Catera model would suffer a similar fate as the Cimarron. It’s Ironic that both models started with the letter C. Cindy Crawford appeared in the early TV ads for the Catera.
THIS WEEK’S TRIVIA QUESTION –
Here is this week’s trivia question. It is not Turbo Regal related. You have to refer to Photo 1 for the clues. I spotted this unusual car near our warehouse last week.
Your answer must agree with mine. Email me [email protected] your educated guess.
PHOTO 1 – We show a small view of this fairly rare and unusual station wagon. The exterior format is unusual in one respect. I do not show the exterior portion that would give the answer. I have never seen another model station wagon in the last 30 years that shared this unusual exterior appearance. Give me your guess as to what is unusual about the exterior of this station wagon. Once you determine the make and model, you should be able to figure out the answer about the exterior.
NEW ARRIVAL - 1986 GRAND NATIONAL PARTS CAR –
I received a call the other week from an older gentleman who has owned a 1986 Grand National since it was brand new! Unfortunately, about two weeks earlier he had gotten forced off the road on a bridge and ended up side swiping the concrete bridge barrier. It literally pealed back a portion of the passenger door, exposing the inner workings of the window. Hitting the bridge also damaged the passenger fender and the quarter panel.
The car is completely stock and has major rust issues from always being outside and used as a regular car. The mileage is somewhere around 175,000. There is tape around some of the moldings as the car has had water leaks over the years. The sun has cooked most of the interior. Some of the stock wheels are solid rust. The trunk lit and bottoms of both doors are rusted beyond help.
I am saying all this to point out that this is a parts car. My goal is to have it stripped in time for the Spring Open House and offer up the drive train still intact for an agreed amount of money. Watch for parts to appear next week as I find time to dismantle this 1986 Grand National.
PHOTO 2 – We show four different views of this 1986 Grand National we just got. I took these photos when I went to look at the car. You can clearly see the major damage to the passenger side. Between the severe damage to the passenger side and the major rust issues, it is basically a parts car.
TURBO BUICK CARTOONS –
We recently contacted Paul Vilser, who was one of the 3 major cartoonists we have used over the years, that did our Turbo Regal cartoons. I wanted to see if he would do a cartoon for our granddaughter who is at Penn State going for a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
The idea for the cartoon is based on the attempted bank robbery in Florida I saw on the news. This is where they attempted to tunnel under a highway to get into the bank on the other side. The attempt failed because they misjudged how deep to dig the tunnel and part of the highway developed a sink hole, which the police discovered.
PHOTO 3 - We show the cartoon Paul did as a gift to give our granddaughter. A lot of Paul’s cartoons were seen over the years in our catalogs. Paul did this as a gift for us to give our granddaughter.
SPEAKING OF CARTOONS –
Over the years, we have used the skills of 3 cartoonists. Matt Blair was the first cartoonist we used, and like Paul, he owned a Turbo Regal. Paul Vilser was our second cartoonist. The third cartoonist we used was Fred Boatman, a well-known cartoonist in the automotive field.
PHOTO 4 – The photo to the left shows one of Matt Blair’s cartoons from 1998. This was based on the similarity of the Power Six logo and the Jiffy Lube logo. The cartoon to the right was an early cartoon that Fred Boatman did for us. It shows the perfect solution of what to do with all the dead powermaster brake bowls. We have had enough dead brake bowls to market this as an actual game!
URGENT REQUEST –
We have an urgent need for usable 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheel cores. Each acceptable core is worth a Letter of Credit of $100. Help us help others by sending us any acceptable cores you may have. The cheapest method to send them is by mail. Ship to Kirban Performance, PO Box 1199, Plumsteadville, PA 18949. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number.
IS YOUR TURBO REGAL PROPERLY INSURED? –
Classic car enthusiasts know that it is sometimes difficult to reach an agreement with an insurance company on the value of a collectible car or truck. It is always better to agree on that value as soon as you arrange to insure it, rather than wait to argue it out when trying to make a claim. It is also a good idea to periodically re-evaluate the worth of your classic car or truck as the value will change as time passes.
ALS Appraisal and Litigation Services is the right choice to appraise your collectible vehicle for this or any other purpose. Get your Turbo Regal/Grand National appraised at 20% OFF at Kirban’s upcoming spring Open House event on May 4, 2019.
Contact - [email protected] Terry Shaw - 215-659-4947 - Fax 215-657-3409 - PA License #139808.
On a personal note, I have known Terry Shaw for over 35-plus years. He has appraised several vehicles for my son as well as my personal Turbo-T years ago.
$50,000 FOR A RARE COCA-COLA BOTTLE –
The expected bid is fifty grand for a rare prototype Coca-Cola bottle from 1915. The shape was not used due to the fact it was deemed unstable due to its shape on the conveyor belts. It is expected to fetch $50,000 at an upcoming auction. Not something you want to mishandle and accidently drop! It makes me wonder what some of my Hurst prototype items are worth that are now 50 years old. I have always been attracted to prototypes.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Good news - We now accept Classified Ads in our weekly Inner Circle emails. Over the years several customers have asked about placing an ad in our weekly Inner Circle.
Here are the options and the costs.
Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.
Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.
The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.
It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.
Our weekly Inner Circle reaches over 3,300 members every Wednesday direct to their inbox. The Inner Circle also appears every Wednesday on our website with the related photos. Your ad would be visible to both groups of readers. So, the exposure to your ad is well over 3,200 potential buyers.

This kit comes with directions and the proper hardware to reassemble the power antenna housing.
It eliminates the need to hunt down the hardware to reassemble the power antenna motor assembly.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING –
Our Spring Open House is now just 4 weeks away. Hope for good weather. Be sure to bring any parts you want to sell us or cash in for parts you want. Also bring any powermaster or turbo cores. They are valued at $150 each Letter of Credit. Also, steering wheel cores valued at $100 Letter of Credit.
