Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 04-03-2013

A LOOK AT VARIOUS TURBO SHIELDS -

One of the most visible under-the-hood parts on every 1986-1987 Turbo Regal is the turbo shield. It basically keeps the heat from heating up the under-the-hood pad and shields the turbo. It's also one of the parts many owners replace with one that is custom made, usually polished or chrome plated.

We just so happens we have four different turbo shields at the same time available for sale.

PHOTO 1 - The far left turbo shield in this first photo is an original GM turbo shield taken off of a 12,000-mile Turbo Regal. You can see it virtually looks brand new. It looks better than most of the replacement GM turbo shields we have sold in the past. On the right is another turbo shield we recently acquired. It is used and appears to be polished aluminum.

PHOTO 2 - In this photo we show first the DC Tech Turbo Shield that we used to sell on the left. This is the very last one that we have. DC Tech will not be making anymore. The turbo shield on the right is a reproduction of the GNX turbo shield with the exception being the letters "GN" and the Power Six symbol have been laser cut into the shield. This is in place of where it would say "GNX."

Of course, it is very costly to make turbo shields. Old timers may recall Kodiak West, out of California, back in the late 1980s also made some polished aluminum turbo shields.

“LET’S TALK” BUICK BROCHURE -

In the 2-13-2013 Inner Circle in the third photo we featured four different Buick brochures. One was the small booklet entitled “Let’s Talk - A service signals checklist for the car owner”. The one we featured in that Inner Circle has a copyright date on the back of 1979. Since I've been going to these "U Pull It" yards every week, I have discovered that same mini booklet with two different covers. The other two versions have a copyright on the back, but does not indicate any date anywhere in the booklets.

PHOTO 3 - In the top photo we show in the top photo the three "Let’s Talk" booklets, each measuring 3-1/2" x 6" inches in size. The top left booklet is the one we showed back in the 2-13-2013 Inner Circle and it is dated on the back 1979. The top middle booklet has no date and the cover is slightly different than the 1979 version. They also changed the appearance of the two cartoon figures from the 1979 to the second version seen in the center of this photo. The one pictured top right eliminates the cartoon altogether and I found it in a 1993 or later Buick glove box. In each case, all the interior pages appear to be the same or similar and each has 20 pages. In the lower photo we show the backs of the three booklets in the same order. Like the fronts, are all slightly different from each other.

CENTER CAPS FROM MY PRIVATE COLLECTION -

Some of the most expensive center caps you can buy today were produced by Hurst for their Hurst wheels, which they made from 1965 until 1969. These center caps were diecast metal and quite heavy. They were not popular selling wheels due in part to their costs. Another reason may be they were only available in a 14" x 6" size.

Like many items from the muscle car era that saw low-production figures initially, today can these bring big money.

PHOTO 4 - The upper left photo shows the chrome-plated standard cap and upper right photo shows the gold-anodized-style cap. The gold anodized cap only came on special matching wheels that were never in any of the Hurst catalogs. This cap was mainly used for custom show cars and contest cars. The wheels and trim rings would have the same anodized look to them. A set of four of these gold anodized center caps today would fetch $700 or more.

In the lower photos we show the two optional center caps that Hurst offered. The lower left one is the billet style. It was the only cap that used three smaller Hurst logo decals on it. The lower right cap was known as the "three bar spinner" cap. The spinner has always been the most highly-prized center cap for the Hurst wheel. In my private collection I actually have the prototype they were going to use. Because it was diecast and the spokes had thin ribs on it, it made it very difficult to re-chrome them and have them look new again. An original set of these today would fetch $1,000 or more. Hurst wheels only came in a 14" x 6" size. In the GM bolt pattern, an unused complete set today would bring over $6,000 or more.

You can almost visualize the similarities with the GNX wheels. Because of the small sizes, both wheels are outdated and yet bring big money. Although the Hurst wheel has been reproduced, it is not exactly like the original. These copies sell for over $2000 a set. Over the years we have sold over 20 sets of original Hurst wheels back in the 1980s. At that time the highest we got for a regular set was $3500 and that set was used.

KIRBAN PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS ON YouTube -

We have been recording various segments on our products and information related to the Buick Turbo Regals, and we have posted them on YouTube. Keep checking back on this as we filmed several more segments last week.

Some segments feature products, their placements, benefits, or issues.

We recently recorded some more videos for our YouTube posting, which should be up very shortly.

In one of the segments I explain the LED dash lights we have available for the analog dash and the Low Fuel warning unit. There is also a segment on the Tinman cold air system.

TWO PRODUCTS - REDUCED PRICES -

Part #7135 - 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - Restored Grey Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel is now only $190 plus $75 core charge (which you get back after you send in a reusable core.)

Part #7047 - 1984-1987 Grand National - Reproduction Black Molded Interior Carpet with Jute Padding is now $149.95.

Our black molded carpet from Auto Custom Carpet (also known as ACC) DOES have the jute padding (sound deadener) on the back. This is what would have come in your car originally. It's the same carpet we have been selling for over 20 years.

NOTE CONCERNING OUR FLOOR MATS -

Our Part numbers for our carpeted floor mats are #6511, #6513, #6883, #7162, and #7168.

It's also important to remember Auto Custom Carpet ONLY makes the correct original equipment pattern cut on all our carpeted floor mats. All the other suppliers CANNOT get that original equipment pattern cut in the carpeted floor mats they purchase from Auto Custom Carpet (ACC).

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

We have two new products to announce in this week's Inner Circle.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
ELECTRICAL SOLENOID PASS-THROUGH CONNECTOR WITH O-RING for 200-4R Transmission

This unique electrical solenoid pass-through connector is for the original 200-4R transmission in the 1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regals. It is located on the driver’s side of the 200-4R transmission.

Whenever you have to replace the TCC solenoid, you would have to disconnect this electrical pass-through connector, since this is the harness for that solenoid.

Because of the age of your car and the fact this connector is plastic, sometimes when you disconnect the electrical pass-through connector, there is a strong possibility the internal tabs, which secure it in place, will break off.

The O-ring that seats on this pass-through connector may be leaking due to the age of the connector and the heat from the transmission. This connector has the O-ring on it.

NOTE - If you ever replace the TCC solenoid, our Part #7208, you will also need this connector to avoid any issues.

Another good restoration item to have on hand, since it’s not readily available at an auto parts store.

7486 - 1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Electrical Solenoid Pass-through Connector with O-ring for 200-4R Transmission - $14.95

NEW PRODUCT - REPRODUCTION GOODYEAR EAGLE GT TIRES -

We also now offer the reproduction Goodyear Eagle GT tires. These have been reproduced in the correct size P215/65-R15. Made in the U.S.A. I think I will start looking to can 1987 air and offer it. It's amazing how many parts related to our cars have been reproduced over the last several years. Here is complete information.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction P215/65-R15 GOODYEAR EAGLE GT TIRES (4) SET

This is the tire that was original equipment from GM for all 1986-1987 Turbo Regals and other performance GM G-body cars during those years. There is only one company that has had these remade.

The tires are made in the U.S.A. in the original Goodyear plant.

Better materials are used today. However, the ride is the same as it was back when these tires were offered in 1986 and 1987. Construction is 2 polyester plies, 2 steel belts, and 1 nylon overlay. New molds are used for these and are in current production.

These do have the outer white letters on the one side, so you can mount them either way.
Now if you want your car to remain original looking, you don’t have to try and hunt down original 25+-year-old tires and risk riding on them.

Shipping is calculated on the weight of the tires - about 25 lbs each and 100 lbs for the set. Tires are dropped shipped for us directly from our supplier in Missouri.

We offer the tires as a set of 4, Part #7488, or you can purchase a single tire, Part #7487. Keep in mind, the original spares were smaller, and these are the full size tires.

NOTE - YOU MUST CALL OUR OFFICE TO ORDER THIS ITEM - 215-766-1611 x 0.

Because of limitations with the web site, you MUST call our office to order this item. We will be able to process your order with the proper UPS shipping.

Another great restoration item.

7487 - 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction P215/65-R15 GOODYEAR EAGLE GT TIRE - $340
(in case you want a full-size spare)

7488 - 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction P215/65-R15 GOODYEAR EAGLE GT TIRES (4) SET - $1360 / set

ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -

Got any turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected].

Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE - We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected].

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

Be sure to circle April 13th on your calendar, for our annual Kirban Spring Open House. This event will include a free lunch, so be sure to bring your appetite. Event happens rain or shine.
