Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 07-03-2019 –
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE –
We will be closed tomorrow Thursday July 4th as well as Friday July 5th. We will reopen Monday July 8th.
Have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July. I recall back in high school we had an upper classmate lose an eye due to a firecracker accident. Remember, they are probably made in China so the quality control can be questionable.
UPDATE ON THE LITTLE MINI CONTEST FROM LAST WEEK –
Finding out what that fiberglass part was for proved to be a major challenge in our mini contest. We had one reply and that person had the right answer. They even emailed me proof as to what the part was for. I can’t believe that as small as that part is, it is actually for a car.
It was made by an aftermarket company to provide a hardtop for a Lotus Elise model. I have no idea as to what year or years it fits. It is quite rare. However, the Lotus is not high-dollar collectible sports car, at least not yet.
Congrats to Mike Palmer out of Orem, Utah for having the correct answer.
It is not often my son and I can be stumped on a part that is for a car!
If you or know someone that owns that Lotus model, this aftermarket top is for sale.
Watch for next week’s Inner Circle since I will have another mini contest to see if you can determine what make, model, and year another part is for.
RED MUSTANG SIX CYLINDER UPDATE –
The new owner of the red Mustang, Tim Morren, arrived this past Friday morning having flown in from Dallas, Texas. His plan is to drive the little Mustang for 2 years and then offer it to his son when he turns 16. Tim says it’s important he learns how to drive a manual shift car. As you may recall, Tim at age 16 would wax GNX #480 that his Dad stashed in the family garage with a mere 8 miles on it.
In talking to Tim, it turns out that his father had Kenny Duittweiler build two motors for him. One of these Kenny Duttweiler prepared motors went in a street driven 1986 Grand National that his Dad drove.
He said that one reason the GNX simply sat was that there was no comparison to the fun that the Kenny Duttweiler Grand National provided on those Arkansas roads! Tim said when you punched the Duttweiler-built Grand National at 60 mph, the tires would break lose.
According to Tim, his Dad first offered him the 8-mile GNX for a family discount of $37,500 in 2005. At the time, Tim had just purchased a home and had to pass on the generous offer. His dad then sold it to the doctor in Wisconsin for $49,500. It was that doctor who sold it this past spring for $200 grand. You can do the math and compute the profit margin that was realized.
Tim would wax GNX #480 for his Dad when he was 16. Since he was at our house picking up the little red Mustang, I thought it would be neat to take a photo of him waxing GNX #206 that was at our house. I am sure this gesture brought back memories for Tim.
He emailed me the first night from West Virginia saying, “The little Mustang runs great and is fun to drive.” It’s hard to believe that a little red Mustang has a connection with a $200 grand GNX, but it does.
PHOTO 1 - The first photo shows Tim waxing the back end of the GNX. The other two photos show Tim alongside his new purchase. He had nice weather for his road trip to Wickes, Arkansas. According to Tim, Wickes is a town of just 750 residents.
MORE PHOTOS OF MACK TRUCK OPEN HOUSE AND CLASSIC TRUCK SHOW –
As promised the other week, here are more photos from the Mack Truck Open House and the Classic Truck show held in nearby Macungie, PA. The Open House was the same Saturday as the Classic Truck show at nearby Macungie, which we also attended. Over 1,000 trucks were on display.
PHOTO 2 – The top left photo shows Devyn, myself, Deb (Carrie’s Mom), Carrie and Darrell in front of the huge Mack bulldog in the Mack Truck Museum. The top right shows the restored very first Mack Truck bus in their Museum. The bottom left shows the Mack Truck that was used in the movie “The Transformers,” the 3rd movie in the series. The bottom right shows a restored Mack military truck from WW2.
PHOTO 3 – The top left photo shows Devyn in her Mack Truck attire in front of a poster of Mack’s new truck. The top right photo shows a pickup sized Peterbuilt truck that someone built. The lower photos show one extremely nice dump truck at the truck show. The bottom right photo shows highly-detailed artwork on that same truck
CONGRATS TO PAUL VILSER –
Paul Vilser was featured in the July 2019 issue of Muscle Car Review magazine. Paul is shown alongside his show-quality 1970 Stage 1 4-speed GSX.
His name should be familiar to my readers as he did many of our cartoons, including some of our T-shirt designs from years ago. Paul also has a pristine WE4, which was featured in Muscle Car Review in the July 2018 issue.
He basically has the best of both Buick muscle cars.
MAGAZINE COVERAGE –
It doesn’t hurt to send photos of your car with a short story to any car magazine. Magazines need stories. The internet has put a hurt on the printed magazine business, but personally I prefer the printed format.
Also, if you get your car in a magazine, it can only increase the value of your car when and if you decide to sell it.
Or you can also write the editor about a previous article they published. My first encounter with a national magazine was with Hot Rod. This was way back in October of 1982.
They had done an article earlier that year about a guy forming a club for the Ford Fairlane. He was a bit upset that the GTO was referred to as the first musclecar or premier muscle car. I wrote Hot Rod and enclosed a photo of my 1964 GTO. In the letter, I predicted the 1964-1967 GTOS would be to the 1960s like the 1955-57 Chevys are to the 1950s. I also stated the 1964 GTO would be in a class by itself. I said currently the early GTOs were valued in the $6 grand to $7 grand range. (Remember, this was back in 1982). Fast forward to current day and the GTO club is going strong with over 3,000 members as are the GTO values. I keep my membership activated as I am member #44. I have no idea if the Ford Fairlane National club is still in operation.
One could also say that the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals are to the 1980s like the 1964-1967 GTOs are to the 1960s. One thing is certain, whether you agree with my formula or not, cars I have noted from either decade make a good investment and continue to climb in value.
The Turbo Regals may be part of the last ones that do increase in value in the near future as more cars get powered by electric and lose their market appeal to collectors. I am sure there are a few exceptions, but the ones we appreciate may be near the last of the line.
PHOTO 4 – Shows the letter I wrote to the Hot Rod editor in October of 1982. It almost covers two complete columns. Interesting enough, I just realized that the Letter to the Editor after my letter is from a Jere Geese II. I used to go to his junkyard, which is not far from our office. It’s a small world!
MOTORCYCLE PARTS REQUEST UPDATED -
We did get answers on most of the motorcycle parts we have except for the new leather saddle bags. They have no company name on them. The Kawasaki gas tank appears to be brand new, never used.
UPDATE ON OUR OLD 1967 RAM AIR FIREBIRD SURFACES –
The collector who now owns our old 1967 Ram Air Firebird may decide to sell the car. He collects mostly Chevrolet performance cars and deals in them.
He had a friend that lived next to the guy that bought my Firebird from me in 1979. It appears the Firebird has only gone about 5,000 to 6,000 miles in the last 40 years.
From the photos he has emailed me, it appears to be just like I sold it back in 1979 with all the extremely rare Ram Air parts on it and the optional wood steering wheel, hood tach, and the very rare multiplex unit that converted the am/fm factory radio to stereo. The car has had new quarter panels and been repainted. The vinyl top appears to be original.
I sent him proof that the Firebird appeared on a poster, book, and in a magazine. Not many 1967 Firebird owners can say their car has been on a poster, book, and a magazine.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING –

Have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July. I recall back in high school we had an upper classmate lose an eye due to a firecracker accident. Remember, they are probably made in China so the quality control can be questionable.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
The dealership has had several people interested in my 2005 Tahoe, but can’t get financing due to the age of the Tahoe. We have reduced the price. You could look at any number of 2005 Tahoes and not find one as nice as this one.
