G-BODY BRAKE PEDALS -
GM used two different power brake pedals in the G-body cars. GM also made a handful of manual shift cars in the late 1970s in the G-body cars which some of you may not be aware of. They would have used another style brake pedal. The G-body designation started with the 1978 models, according to the information I have read. Keep in mind, I am not an expert on brake matters.
Many of you realize that a difference exists in the brake pedal on the Turbo Regals versus a regular Regal brake pedal that would have been used in a regular V6 or V8 format. I am referring to the 1985, 1986, and 1987 models that came with the powermaster brake unit. Being in the automotive business since the late 1970s, I can’t recall any car that we dealt with that had as many issues with brakes as the cars that use the powermaster format.
I am not going to go into details here as to the various issues with the powermaster. But the problems associated with the powermaster system are due in part to GM not specifying that the brake fluid should be replaced every 1-2 years.
The one version was the same from what I am told on all the G-body models, which would include the Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, and the Olds Cutlass. The other version was used if the car had the powermaster system. I am referring to cars with automatic transmissions. The difference being not only the position of the pin that the rod from the brake booster attached to, but also the hole size needed to go over the pin that the rod from the brake unit attached to. The larger pin was used for the powermaster unit. It was also located approximately one inch higher on the pedal assembly towards the top. The turbo pedal pin was ½" size and the pedal for vacuum brakes is 3/8". Both the pedal assemblies were painted with what appears to be a satin black and were only painted about 75% from the pedal going up to the bracket. (I re-sprayed these brake pedals for the photos). The top 25% was bare metal, which turns to rust over a period of time.
PHOTO 1 - We show 4 photos of both brake pedal rods from various angles so you can see the different pin locations between the two pedal assemblies. The one that has the addition hole above the pin mounting is for a vacuum brake unit. That hole is not in the correct spot if it was to be used for the powermaster pedal. I have no idea why that additional hole is in the vacuum pedal. Both pedals have a series of three sets of numbers stamped in the side of the rod. The spacing of the numbers leads me to believe it is a date code number rather than a GM part number. The powermaster brake pedal reads 05 23 679. The vacuum pedal reads 05 15 193.
What I do know is removing a pedal from under the dash is no easy task unless you are quite small and have excellent eyesight. Besides a nut and bolt, it has a metal tube with a pair of plastic sleeves that the assembly rotates on.
1981 INDIANAPOLIS PACE CAR SOUVENIRS -
Every year I am sure there is a wide array of Indy Pace Car souvenirs being offered. In my personal stash of original Buick literature that I have collected over the years I found the following two flyers showing two items that Buick offered in relationship to the Buick Indy Pace Car for 1981.
PHOTO 2 - This flyer was for a souvenir edition belt buckle and patch. The belt buckle was cast in a bronzed antique finished pewter. It featured the Power Six logo on it. The backside has the story of the 1981 Pit Badge engraved on it. This was quite reasonable back then, just $5.95 plus $1.50 postage. Although not shown on the flyer, it also mentions a handsome four-color embroidered emblem of the Pit Badge design, which was four inches in diameter. The patch was just $.50 each plus 50 cents postage and handling.
PHOTO 3 - Shows the other flyer I have offering a very special invitation limited to you from Buick, which was an art print of the Indy Pace car for 1981. According to the flyer, this was limited to just 750 selective individuals to take part in this memorable moment in Buick’s automotive history. Each was framed, numbered, and signed by the illustrator Les Didier, who was commissioned expressly by Buick for this historic event. These were $69.95 each delivered.
I would be curious if any of our readers has either one of these items from the 1981 Indy Pace Car collection. I have neither in my personal collection. I am sure I have seen the belt buckle for sale at some point over the years.
THE RED TOOL BOX -
I imagine most of you tinker with your cars and, depending on your skills and size of your garage, you have a toolbox or toolboxes that are well equipped with all the tools you can afford.
Years ago in the mid-1980s, I had an old-time mechanic, Big Bill, who kept our three tow trucks on the road. He also dismantled many GTOs and Lemans for us.
Back then the GTO National meet and the Pontiac National meet were usually held one week or two weeks apart anywhere in the country. Big Bill loved to travel, so he would go with me on these excursions. We would go to various junkyards along the way. I would lug his beat up red toolbox through the yards. There was nothing this man could not take off any car between the tools he had, the size and power of his body, and his use of profanity.
In his later years, he had a place on the west coast of Florida where he spent the winter months. He would travel up to Pennsylvania and spent his summers working for us. In January 1991 he passed away in Florida and his widow sold his little house down there and everything in it. (She had remained in Pennsylvania).
A few years passed. On one of my trips to retrieve a Turbo Buick, it took me through the town in Florida where Big Bill had lived. I stopped at his old house. A woman answered the door and I explained that I was a very close friend of the previous owner of the house. She let me see the garage and I noticed that beat up red toolbox that I had lugged around for many years for Big Bill. I offered to buy it. I just wanted to buy the toolbox and none of the tools. She said no. I then increased my offer, which included me buying her a new toolbox of equal size or slightly larger. Again, the answer was no. I explained to her that the toolbox had sentimental value to me and still the answer was no. I left and figured it was just not meant to be. I could not understand why she would not sell me the toolbox.
At the time, we still published a monthly GTO newsletter. I told this same story in our GTO newsletter in the following months. Within a few days I heard from a customer of ours that lived in New Jersey and ran a trucking business up and down the east coast. He asked me to give him the address of the house in Florida and he would get me the toolbox at no cost to me.

The top right photo shows the inside lid of the toolbox with all the original decals Big Bill had stuck on it. The quote "People who think they know it all really annoy those of us who do" was one of his favorites. The lower left photo shows Big Bill and I in front my old Little Scottie camper at one of the shows we attended. The lower right photo shows the red toolbox that our GTO customer was able to get for me as a gift. I never knew the deal he made the owners, but I was extremely grateful he succeeded. To this day, it is one of my most sentimental items. I stuck the Mustang pony emblem on the front of the toolbox. True Story.
MORE INFORMATION ON THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR RECALL -
I received the below email from Chris Tobie, who worked at Buick at the time our cars were built.
As you can see from his comments below regarding the power steering reservoir recall, unless the dealership also changed out the power steering hoses, the noise could return. He also points out that some cars came through with the updated remote power steering reservoir but the old version return hose.
Below is Chris’s email to me:
Good article on the steering reservoir change. I was a Buick dealer technician back then and changed several of these under warranty, including the one on my own 87 Turbo-T (built January of 87 and delivered to me March 9), which drove all of us techs crazy for months with power steering pump noise at about a year and a half old.
It already had the revised steering reservoir with the left hand threaded cap from the factory, so the bulletin theoretically didn't apply. When it started making the same groaning noise and we tried everything to stop it...except the return hose. It seems that the somehow that car got built with the new reservoir but the old return hoses. As I recall, a number of those reservoirs were also "flat-rated" in the dealerships by replacing only the reservoir, but not the hoses (they were a pain in the ass to change). The old hoses would hook up and in most cases the noise stopped...at least for a while.
The problem was the large diameter return hose from the reservoir to the pump was just a tad too short for the new reservoir on certain cars, including mine. This hose's length had some variance so some cars were fine with just a reservoir. The "short" hoses would develop a crimp over time near the power steering pump inlet as the hose went through thermo cycles. This crimp is not easy to spot, but it starves the pump for fluid and causes a similar noise. Because some of these turbo cars have fairly low mileage, this condition might not show up for a number of years. It's worth checking if you're chasing steering noise on a turbo car built before about March of 1987. The cars our dealership received after March never developed steering noise.
I recall my local GM Training Center instructor telling me that the revised reservoir was from a 1985-1987 J-body (Buick Skyhawk, Pontiac Sunbird, Olds Firenza) with the 1.8/2.0 liter OHC engine (Sometimes called the 1.8/2.0 "Brazil" engine for where it was manufactured - Chevy never used this engine in J-cars). That made sense because I worked on those models too and remember the reservoir was mounted on the firewall and had the same goofy left hand threaded cap. It's been a long time and I can't find any documentation, but see if you can find one next time you are out stomping the salvage yards.)

MORE INFORMATION ON REMOTE POWER STEERING RESERVOIRS -
As Chris has pointed out above, remote power steering reservoirs were used on various years on the J-body cars during the mid-1980s. I have yet to find any of these J-body cars in the yards I go to.
Bob Crow also brought it to my attention that the 1989 Turbo Trans Am used a remote power steering reservoir. I had neglected to mention this. If the one used on those cars is unique to the Turbo Trans Am, it would be a very difficult part to find today!
I have not had any luck since last week finding any more GM remote power steering reservoirs. The one we pictured last week to the far left has already sold. That one, I would think, could be made to work in our cars if you needed one. If you search for a Turbo Regal remote power steering reservoir, most are $150 or more. It also doesn't make sense to get the recalled version, as it can only lead to making various noises when the fluid got hot.
WE NEED YOUR INPUT-
We need your input if you have changed over to a dual fan format to cool your engine. I would like to know what year and what car model dual fan format fits the best-to-the-stock radiator and can easily be adapted to the stock wiring harness. Since I go to various You Pull It Yards, I may be able to find some of these dual fan setups, which would provide better cooling.
THE GM SUBURBAN NAMEPLATE CELEBRATES 80 CONTINOUS YEARS -
I just read an article saying that the GM Suburban nameplate has been in continuous production since 1935, making it 80 years in existence. It is the nation’s longest running nameplate. I don’t know what the 1935 Suburban sold for, but the base price for the 2015 starts at a cool $64,700. Most houses in 1935 did not cost that much!

Pick up any newspaper and you can always find used car dealers making wild claims about financing for almost anyone that is walking and breathing. This one advertisement caught my eye since it covered virtually every situation possible. It read “Guaranteed Financing for All! No Credit, Bad Credit, Bankruptcy…Even if we repossessed your car, No Job, No Problem. Bring down payment and pay $60 a week”.
Maybe the down payment plus the first $60 is enough to cover their cost factor on the cars? Sounds pretty risky to assume the buyer will come up with $60 every week after that initial contact.

COMING SOON HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM -
We recently heard from a company that makes complete new booster brake units that work off the power steering system. It is similar to what GM used on the 1984 and some 1985 Turbo Regals.
This now gives you yet another option in your quest to make your Turbo Regal stop short of dragging your foot on the roadway! These kits require you to have the original powermaster brake pedal assembly in your car.
Some owners that now may want to switch from the vacuum format, may not know what brake pedal assembly is in their Turbo Regal. We are trying to locate used pedal assemblies for turbo applications, as well as vacuum applications, so customers do not have a problem with what they choose to go with for a brake system.
Currently we do not have all the specifications or pricing, but will soon have all the info available. We will be offering the entire kit complete, so installation will go smoothly. I believe GM used a similar system on some of their late 1990 vans and beyond, from what I have seen in junkyards.

I think the M & A Casting heads back then were around $2,500. We had one of the first sets on our Grand National years ago. Back then I had no idea Buick even made a Limited Turbo model. That is one reason I went for the deal! The GNX wheels not only look good on a black Turbo Regal, but equally as nice on a white or a silver one as well.

In last 04-16-2014 Inner Circle we indicated we were looking for a 1963 Bonneville. That is NOT the correct year. It has to be a 1966 Bonneville convertible model.
We have a local friend who wants a car identical to one he had when he was younger. The car must have a black interior and black convertible top. He is willing to paint the car. He is not looking for a show car, and it doesn't have to be original and correct.
He is looking for one that he can drive and enjoy that will bring back memories for him, not a 95-point show car. He is willing to travel to find one.

Our stock steel hood shocks are made by Stabilus, which is the OEM supplier to GM. We have recently lowered our retail price to $33.95 per set. These are for all the stock steel hoods 1982-1987 Regals, our Part #6700.
Years ago we were able to work out the pressure required for the hood shocks with Stabilus so they could supply us with a custom hood shock for our fiberglass hoods. That set is Part #1516.

Custom-Made REPRODUCTION WINDOW STICKERS
The most important piece of paper you can have with your car is the original Window Sticker, which gives all the important "history" of your Buick. It is also something that most buyers want when they purchase an original car. If yours is missing or damaged, we can have a reproduction made specifically for your vehicle.
It may also be called a “Monroney Label,” named after the Senator Mike Monroney, who originally proposed the law requiring a window sticker be attached to every new vehicle sold in the United States. This law was passed in 1958, so beginning with the 1959 model year every U.S. produced car had to have this label with each new car for the consumer to see. The bill required an automobile manufacturer to attach a label to the window of each new vehicle. This label would show the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price,) all standard equipment, all optional equipment and their prices, destination and delivery charges, federal, state, and local taxes, and prep charges. It may also show the average fuel economy. This allows a consumer to walk into an automobile dealership and find an itemized, accurate price tag on every new vehicle.
In the beginning, these were very basic, listing the dealer information and optional equipment. Beginning in 1962, salesmen used it as another sales tool as companies started to list standard items as well.
If you have a show car, having a window sticker is a definite asset to the value as it verifies all the options and dealer information from when the car was new.
These reproduction window stickers are all done by Triple A Enterprises. This company has been doing them since 1979, starting with the Corvette market and expanding to the other GM vehicles. He has appointed our company to handle all the 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regal requests for window stickers.
The 1986-1988 Buick Window Stickers were only done in black and white.
Most of the information to make a reproduction Window Sticker for the 1986 and 1987 Buicks can be found on your Service Parts Identification (SPI) label found attached to the inside trunk lid. This is also known as the “Trunk ID” label.
If your SPI label is missing, send us a complete list of all your factory options. With that information, we can list them in the correct order, with the correct ID codes, and correct manufacturer's suggested retail delivered price for the optional equipment installed on this vehicle by manufacturer. Be sure to list ALL the options, since this information is important for an accurate Window Sticker, which may also help when placing a value on your car.
However, that information alone from your SPI Label will not give you all the information needed to make your copy of your Window Sticker complete. The SPI label will not tell you the original selling GM dealership, the order number, nor the ramp code. In order to get this additional information, go to the GM Archives website - www.gmmediaarchive.com. Their fee is about $50 (2014) and, in most cases, they can provide you with a copy of the vehicle invoice. It is from that vehicle invoice that the original order number and ship to GM dealership can be determined. From the original dealership location, an approximate ramp code will be shown on your Window Sticker to correspond with the original dealership destination.
If you do not provide a copy of the vehicle invoice, these particular facts will not appear on your copy of the Window Sticker. However, in some cases, you may know the name of the selling dealership (ship to dealership,) and their city and state in other paperwork found in your glove box. You can note it to us when you order.
If you decide to not acquire the GM archive information, a Window Sticker can still be created, but the selling dealership will be left blank.
NOTE - Unfortunately our source can NOT reproduce Window Stickers, if your car was initially sold in Canada. This is because parts of those Window Stickers may be in French and reflect Canadian prices, which are different from U.S. prices.
NOTE Regarding 1987 Grand Nationals - The Grand National originally was an option under the “WE2” code on the Window Sticker.
However, when they decided to produce an additional 10,000 Grand Nationals, those 10,000 were titled as a “Grand National” rather than a 1987 Regal 2 DR Coupe, which would not show a “WE2” under factory options on the Window Sticker.
For a 1987 Grand National, your car’s built date will determine how your Window Sticker will read. It will either be as a WE2 option or titled as a 1987 Grand National.

OEM-STYLE BLACK OXIDE HOSE CLAMPS SETS
FOR INTERCOOLER, TURBO, MASS AIR HOSE and AIR CLEANER ELBOW
Buick used hose clamps that were finished in black oxide for the three intercooler hoses (6 clamps), the mass air hose and rubber elbow to the factory air cleaner assembly (4 clamps). These are the correct size clamps for the proper application, a total of 10 clamps.
We offer a kit for each or you can save a few dollars and buy both kits, so all the clamps are a matched set.
The intercooler clamp set is ideal to use with our OEM-style heavy-duty hoses, Part #7553, since that hose kit is an exact match to the original material Buick used on the intercooler hoses (the only difference is these hoses are slightly thicker.)
Black oxide is a chemical process and not a coating. The same company that does our chrome plating also has the necessary equipment to do the black oxide process.

1984-1987 Regal -
GNX / TRANS AM STYLE 16" x 8" WHEELS (4) SET
These GNX - TRANS AM style wheels have the black mesh center and are 16"″ x 8"″ with the proper offset to fit under the wheel wells of the 1984-1987 Regals. These resemble the popular original GNX wheels. This version has the zero offset. Do not confuse this with the version we have sold in the past, known as “Kirban-Style” GNX wheels.
These wheels are manufactured with brand new tooling and are clear coated. Wheels have the proper offset to fit under the fenders. We sell these as a complete set of 4 wheels, 20 correct lug nuts, 20 lug nut black caps, 4 chrome-plated valve stems, 4 black center caps, and 4 reproduction “GNX” center cap decals.
The original center caps on the original GNX were actually the existing Trans Am caps. GM simply affixed the “GNX” paper decal over the Trans Am medallion. This set includes the reproduction “GNX” Decals (4) Set, Part #7113.
If you own a 1984, 1985, or 1986 Turbo Regal, the GM front springs on these years were a different spring rate. You will need to change the front springs to avoid having the tires rub when you go over bumps. We recommend our front springs, Part #6566. If you plan on carrying heavy items in the trunk or four friends, we recommend you upgrade the rear springs to our variable rate rear springs, Part #1520 on any 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 Regal.
For shocks, the best ones you can buy are the Bilsteins to further improve the ride quality of your Turbo Regal. The overall height is actually slightly less than what is currently on the car. The speedometer is not affected.
Originally the GNX used 245/50s by 16s up front and 255/50s by 16 in the rear. For best results, we recommend going with 245/50s on the fronts and the backs. Depending on the year Turbo Regal and what suspension upgrades you have made, we do not recommend the larger 255/50s for the rear. However, if you want to go with 255/50s in the rear, trial fit these wheels first to be sure you have enough clearance.
The good news is these wheels will look pretty much dead on with the mesh black center that matches the original GNX mesh center. They are 100% brand new and weigh about 18 lbs each. Of all the available optional wheels, these are the most desirable and can really enhance your pride and joy.

G-BODY BRAKE PEDALS -
GM used two different power brake pedals in the G-body cars. GM also made a handful of manual shift cars in the late 1970s in the G-body cars which some of you may not be aware of. They would have used another style brake pedal. The G-body designation started with the 1978 models, according to the information I have read. Keep in mind, I am not an expert on brake matters.
Many of you realize that a difference exists in the brake pedal on the Turbo Regals versus a regular Regal brake pedal that would have been used in a regular V6 or V8 format. I am referring to the 1985, 1986, and 1987 models that came with the powermaster brake unit. Being in the automotive business since the late 1970s, I can’t recall any car that we dealt with that had as many issues with brakes as the cars that use the powermaster format.
I am not going to go into details here as to the various issues with the powermaster. But the problems associated with the powermaster system are due in part to GM not specifying that the brake fluid should be replaced every 1-2 years.
The one version was the same from what I am told on all the G-body models, which would include the Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, and the Olds Cutlass. The other version was used if the car had the powermaster system. I am referring to cars with automatic transmissions. The difference being not only the position of the pin that the rod from the brake booster attached to, but also the hole size needed to go over the pin that the rod from the brake unit attached to. The larger pin was used for the powermaster unit. It was also located approximately one inch higher on the pedal assembly towards the top. The turbo pedal pin was ½" size and the pedal for vacuum brakes is 3/8". Both the pedal assemblies were painted with what appears to be a satin black and were only painted about 75% from the pedal going up to the bracket. (I re-sprayed these brake pedals for the photos). The top 25% was bare metal, which turns to rust over a period of time.
PHOTO 1 - We show 4 photos of both brake pedal rods from various angles so you can see the different pin locations between the two pedal assemblies. The one that has the addition hole above the pin mounting is for a vacuum brake unit. That hole is not in the correct spot if it was to be used for the powermaster pedal. I have no idea why that additional hole is in the vacuum pedal. Both pedals have a series of three sets of numbers stamped in the side of the rod. The spacing of the numbers leads me to believe it is a date code number rather than a GM part number. The powermaster brake pedal reads 05 23 679. The vacuum pedal reads 05 15 193.
What I do know is removing a pedal from under the dash is no easy task unless you are quite small and have excellent eyesight. Besides a nut and bolt, it has a metal tube with a pair of plastic sleeves that the assembly rotates on.
1981 INDIANAPOLIS PACE CAR SOUVENIRS -
Every year I am sure there is a wide array of Indy Pace Car souvenirs being offered. In my personal stash of original Buick literature that I have collected over the years I found the following two flyers showing two items that Buick offered in relationship to the Buick Indy Pace Car for 1981.
PHOTO 2 - This flyer was for a souvenir edition belt buckle and patch. The belt buckle was cast in a bronzed antique finished pewter. It featured the Power Six logo on it. The backside has the story of the 1981 Pit Badge engraved on it. This was quite reasonable back then, just $5.95 plus $1.50 postage. Although not shown on the flyer, it also mentions a handsome four-color embroidered emblem of the Pit Badge design, which was four inches in diameter. The patch was just $.50 each plus 50 cents postage and handling.
PHOTO 3 - Shows the other flyer I have offering a very special invitation limited to you from Buick, which was an art print of the Indy Pace car for 1981. According to the flyer, this was limited to just 750 selective individuals to take part in this memorable moment in Buick’s automotive history. Each was framed, numbered, and signed by the illustrator Les Didier, who was commissioned expressly by Buick for this historic event. These were $69.95 each delivered.
I would be curious if any of our readers has either one of these items from the 1981 Indy Pace Car collection. I have neither in my personal collection. I am sure I have seen the belt buckle for sale at some point over the years.
THE RED TOOL BOX -
I imagine most of you tinker with your cars and, depending on your skills and size of your garage, you have a toolbox or toolboxes that are well equipped with all the tools you can afford.
Years ago in the mid-1980s, I had an old-time mechanic, Big Bill, who kept our three tow trucks on the road. He also dismantled many GTOs and Lemans for us.
Back then the GTO National meet and the Pontiac National meet were usually held one week or two weeks apart anywhere in the country. Big Bill loved to travel, so he would go with me on these excursions. We would go to various junkyards along the way. I would lug his beat up red toolbox through the yards. There was nothing this man could not take off any car between the tools he had, the size and power of his body, and his use of profanity.
In his later years, he had a place on the west coast of Florida where he spent the winter months. He would travel up to Pennsylvania and spent his summers working for us. In January 1991 he passed away in Florida and his widow sold his little house down there and everything in it. (She had remained in Pennsylvania).
A few years passed. On one of my trips to retrieve a Turbo Buick, it took me through the town in Florida where Big Bill had lived. I stopped at his old house. A woman answered the door and I explained that I was a very close friend of the previous owner of the house. She let me see the garage and I noticed that beat up red toolbox that I had lugged around for many years for Big Bill. I offered to buy it. I just wanted to buy the toolbox and none of the tools. She said no. I then increased my offer, which included me buying her a new toolbox of equal size or slightly larger. Again, the answer was no. I explained to her that the toolbox had sentimental value to me and still the answer was no. I left and figured it was just not meant to be. I could not understand why she would not sell me the toolbox.
At the time, we still published a monthly GTO newsletter. I told this same story in our GTO newsletter in the following months. Within a few days I heard from a customer of ours that lived in New Jersey and ran a trucking business up and down the east coast. He asked me to give him the address of the house in Florida and he would get me the toolbox at no cost to me.
PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows Big Bill at one of our Reunion events as he collected money for some parts. The top right photo shows the inside lid of the toolbox with all the original decals Big Bill had stuck on it. The quote "People who think they know it all really annoy those of us who do" was one of his favorites. The lower left photo shows Big Bill and I in front my old Little Scottie camper at one of the shows we attended. The lower right photo shows the red toolbox that our GTO customer was able to get for me as a gift. I never knew the deal he made the owners, but I was extremely grateful he succeeded. To this day, it is one of my most sentimental items. I stuck the Mustang pony emblem on the front of the toolbox. True Story.
MORE INFORMATION ON THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR RECALL -
I received the below email from Chris Tobie, who worked at Buick at the time our cars were built.
As you can see from his comments below regarding the power steering reservoir recall, unless the dealership also changed out the power steering hoses, the noise could return. He also points out that some cars came through with the updated remote power steering reservoir but the old version return hose.
Below is Chris’s email to me:
Good article on the steering reservoir change. I was a Buick dealer technician back then and changed several of these under warranty, including the one on my own 87 Turbo-T (built January of 87 and delivered to me March 9), which drove all of us techs crazy for months with power steering pump noise at about a year and a half old.
It already had the revised steering reservoir with the left hand threaded cap from the factory, so the bulletin theoretically didn't apply. When it started making the same groaning noise and we tried everything to stop it...except the return hose. It seems that the somehow that car got built with the new reservoir but the old return hoses. As I recall, a number of those reservoirs were also "flat-rated" in the dealerships by replacing only the reservoir, but not the hoses (they were a pain in the ass to change). The old hoses would hook up and in most cases the noise stopped...at least for a while.
The problem was the large diameter return hose from the reservoir to the pump was just a tad too short for the new reservoir on certain cars, including mine. This hose's length had some variance so some cars were fine with just a reservoir. The "short" hoses would develop a crimp over time near the power steering pump inlet as the hose went through thermo cycles. This crimp is not easy to spot, but it starves the pump for fluid and causes a similar noise. Because some of these turbo cars have fairly low mileage, this condition might not show up for a number of years. It's worth checking if you're chasing steering noise on a turbo car built before about March of 1987. The cars our dealership received after March never developed steering noise.
I recall my local GM Training Center instructor telling me that the revised reservoir was from a 1985-1987 J-body (Buick Skyhawk, Pontiac Sunbird, Olds Firenza) with the 1.8/2.0 liter OHC engine (Sometimes called the 1.8/2.0 "Brazil" engine for where it was manufactured - Chevy never used this engine in J-cars). That made sense because I worked on those models too and remember the reservoir was mounted on the firewall and had the same goofy left hand threaded cap. It's been a long time and I can't find any documentation, but see if you can find one next time you are out stomping the salvage yards.)

MORE INFORMATION ON REMOTE POWER STEERING RESERVOIRS -
As Chris has pointed out above, remote power steering reservoirs were used on various years on the J-body cars during the mid-1980s. I have yet to find any of these J-body cars in the yards I go to.
Bob Crow also brought it to my attention that the 1989 Turbo Trans Am used a remote power steering reservoir. I had neglected to mention this. If the one used on those cars is unique to the Turbo Trans Am, it would be a very difficult part to find today!
I have not had any luck since last week finding any more GM remote power steering reservoirs. The one we pictured last week to the far left has already sold. That one, I would think, could be made to work in our cars if you needed one. If you search for a Turbo Regal remote power steering reservoir, most are $150 or more. It also doesn't make sense to get the recalled version, as it can only lead to making various noises when the fluid got hot.
WE NEED YOUR INPUT-
We need your input if you have changed over to a dual fan format to cool your engine. I would like to know what year and what car model dual fan format fits the best-to-the-stock radiator and can easily be adapted to the stock wiring harness. Since I go to various You Pull It Yards, I may be able to find some of these dual fan setups, which would provide better cooling.
THE GM SUBURBAN NAMEPLATE CELEBRATES 80 CONTINOUS YEARS -
I just read an article saying that the GM Suburban nameplate has been in continuous production since 1935, making it 80 years in existence. It is the nation’s longest running nameplate. I don’t know what the 1935 Suburban sold for, but the base price for the 2015 starts at a cool $64,700. Most houses in 1935 did not cost that much!

Pick up any newspaper and you can always find used car dealers making wild claims about financing for almost anyone that is walking and breathing. This one advertisement caught my eye since it covered virtually every situation possible. It read “Guaranteed Financing for All! No Credit, Bad Credit, Bankruptcy…Even if we repossessed your car, No Job, No Problem. Bring down payment and pay $60 a week”.
Maybe the down payment plus the first $60 is enough to cover their cost factor on the cars? Sounds pretty risky to assume the buyer will come up with $60 every week after that initial contact.

COMING SOON HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM -
We recently heard from a company that makes complete new booster brake units that work off the power steering system. It is similar to what GM used on the 1984 and some 1985 Turbo Regals.
This now gives you yet another option in your quest to make your Turbo Regal stop short of dragging your foot on the roadway! These kits require you to have the original powermaster brake pedal assembly in your car.
Some owners that now may want to switch from the vacuum format, may not know what brake pedal assembly is in their Turbo Regal. We are trying to locate used pedal assemblies for turbo applications, as well as vacuum applications, so customers do not have a problem with what they choose to go with for a brake system.
Currently we do not have all the specifications or pricing, but will soon have all the info available. We will be offering the entire kit complete, so installation will go smoothly. I believe GM used a similar system on some of their late 1990 vans and beyond, from what I have seen in junkyards.

It may also be called a “Monroney Label,” named after the Senator Mike Monroney, who originally proposed the law requiring a window sticker be attached to every new vehicle sold in the United States. This law was passed in 1958, so beginning with the 1959 model year every U.S. produced car had to have this label with each new car for the consumer to see. The bill required an automobile manufacturer to attach a label to the window of each new vehicle. This label would show the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price,) all standard equipment, all optional equipment and their prices, destination and delivery charges, federal, state, and local taxes, and prep charges. It may also show the average fuel economy. This allows a consumer to walk into an automobile dealership and find an itemized, accurate price tag on every new vehicle.
In the beginning, these were very basic, listing the dealer information and optional equipment. Beginning in 1962, salesmen used it as another sales tool as companies started to list standard items as well.
If you have a show car, having a window sticker is a definite asset to the value as it verifies all the options and dealer information from when the car was new.
These reproduction window stickers are all done by Triple A Enterprises. This company has been doing them since 1979, starting with the Corvette market and expanding to the other GM vehicles. He has appointed our company to handle all the 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regal requests for window stickers.
The 1986-1988 Buick Window Stickers were only done in black and white.
Most of the information to make a reproduction Window Sticker for the 1986 and 1987 Buicks can be found on your Service Parts Identification (SPI) label found attached to the inside trunk lid. This is also known as the “Trunk ID” label.
If your SPI label is missing, send us a complete list of all your factory options. With that information, we can list them in the correct order, with the correct ID codes, and correct manufacturer's suggested retail delivered price for the optional equipment installed on this vehicle by manufacturer. Be sure to list ALL the options, since this information is important for an accurate Window Sticker, which may also help when placing a value on your car.
However, that information alone from your SPI Label will not give you all the information needed to make your copy of your Window Sticker complete. The SPI label will not tell you the original selling GM dealership, the order number, nor the ramp code. In order to get this additional information, go to the GM Archives website - www.gmmediaarchive.com. Their fee is about $50 (2014) and, in most cases, they can provide you with a copy of the vehicle invoice. It is from that vehicle invoice that the original order number and ship to GM dealership can be determined. From the original dealership location, an approximate ramp code will be shown on your Window Sticker to correspond with the original dealership destination.
If you do not provide a copy of the vehicle invoice, these particular facts will not appear on your copy of the Window Sticker. However, in some cases, you may know the name of the selling dealership (ship to dealership,) and their city and state in other paperwork found in your glove box. You can note it to us when you order.
If you decide to not acquire the GM archive information, a Window Sticker can still be created, but the selling dealership will be left blank.
NOTE - Unfortunately our source can NOT reproduce Window Stickers, if your car was initially sold in Canada. This is because parts of those Window Stickers may be in French and reflect Canadian prices, which are different from U.S. prices.
NOTE Regarding 1987 Grand Nationals - The Grand National originally was an option under the “WE2” code on the Window Sticker.
However, when they decided to produce an additional 10,000 Grand Nationals, those 10,000 were titled as a “Grand National” rather than a 1987 Regal 2 DR Coupe, which would not show a “WE2” under factory options on the Window Sticker.
For a 1987 Grand National, your car’s built date will determine how your Window Sticker will read. It will either be as a WE2 option or titled as a 1987 Grand National.
We offer various options. You can purchase 1 Window Sticker for the special year noted at the price noted. You can also order an additional copy at a special rate of only $10. You can have the Window Sticker(s) laminated at $5 per copy.

OEM-STYLE BLACK OXIDE HOSE CLAMPS SETS
FOR INTERCOOLER, TURBO, MASS AIR HOSE and AIR CLEANER ELBOW
Buick used hose clamps that were finished in black oxide for the three intercooler hoses (6 clamps), the mass air hose and rubber elbow to the factory air cleaner assembly (4 clamps). These are the correct size clamps for the proper application, a total of 10 clamps.
We offer a kit for each or you can save a few dollars and buy both kits, so all the clamps are a matched set.
The intercooler clamp set is ideal to use with our OEM-style heavy-duty hoses, Part #7553, since that hose kit is an exact match to the original material Buick used on the intercooler hoses (the only difference is these hoses are slightly thicker.)
Black oxide is a chemical process and not a coating. The same company that does our chrome plating also has the necessary equipment to do the black oxide process.

1984-1987 Regal -
GNX / TRANS AM STYLE 16" x 8" WHEELS (4) SET
These GNX - TRANS AM style wheels have the black mesh center and are 16"″ x 8"″ with the proper offset to fit under the wheel wells of the 1984-1987 Regals. These resemble the popular original GNX wheels. This version has the zero offset. Do not confuse this with the version we have sold in the past, known as “Kirban-Style” GNX wheels.
These wheels are manufactured with brand new tooling and are clear coated. Wheels have the proper offset to fit under the fenders. We sell these as a complete set of 4 wheels, 20 correct lug nuts, 20 lug nut black caps, 4 chrome-plated valve stems, 4 black center caps, and 4 reproduction “GNX” center cap decals.
The original center caps on the original GNX were actually the existing Trans Am caps. GM simply affixed the “GNX” paper decal over the Trans Am medallion. This set includes the reproduction “GNX” Decals (4) Set, Part #7113.
If you own a 1984, 1985, or 1986 Turbo Regal, the GM front springs on these years were a different spring rate. You will need to change the front springs to avoid having the tires rub when you go over bumps. We recommend our front springs, Part #6566. If you plan on carrying heavy items in the trunk or four friends, we recommend you upgrade the rear springs to our variable rate rear springs, Part #1520 on any 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 Regal.
For shocks, the best ones you can buy are the Bilsteins to further improve the ride quality of your Turbo Regal. The overall height is actually slightly less than what is currently on the car. The speedometer is not affected.
Originally the GNX used 245/50s by 16s up front and 255/50s by 16 in the rear. For best results, we recommend going with 245/50s on the fronts and the backs. Depending on the year Turbo Regal and what suspension upgrades you have made, we do not recommend the larger 255/50s for the rear. However, if you want to go with 255/50s in the rear, trial fit these wheels first to be sure you have enough clearance.
The good news is these wheels will look pretty much dead on with the mesh black center that matches the original GNX mesh center. They are 100% brand new and weigh about 18 lbs each. Of all the available optional wheels, these are the most desirable and can really enhance your pride and joy.
Keep in mind, we will take good used original Grand National wheels in partial trade. This can help save you some money, since you also need to buy new tires.

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
