MORE CONFUSION ON THE POWER SIX LOGO -
As many of you know, the Power Six logo can be confusing. Buick used the warm-to-hot colors on the logo to denote the car was turbocharged. For example, this format can be seen on all the 1984-1987 Regal Grand National models. The 1986 LeSabre Grand National had a solid red Power Six logo. The same warm-to-hot colors can be seen on the 1984-1985 Turbocharged Riviera.
The 1984 Regal T-Type also had a Power Six emblem attached to the front fender under the T-Type emblem. This also shared the same warm-to-hot color format. The colors were orange to yellow.
As noted last week, on the 1986-1987 Grand National wheel caps the arrow portion of the Power Six tucked under the vertical part. It seems confusing to see two different versions of a logo on the same car.
We show proof here that on Molly’s original design for the turbocharged Riviera models the arrow overlapped the vertical portion. Again, Buick changed the Power Six so the arrow portion goes under the vertical part for production of the Riviera fender emblems and also the dash emblem.
PHOTO 1 - The photo to the left shows two of the three Molly original metal prototype emblems for the Riviera models. The photo to the right shows the third prototype Turbocharged emblem and under it the one Buick used on the actual production Riviera. You can clearly see how close in size and font type Molly’s prototype is to what Buick ended up using on their cars. You can also see that Buick reversed the arrow putting it under the vertical part of the six. It matches what Buick did to the 1986-1987 Grand National center caps.
I am sure any collector who owns a Turbocharged Riviera would love to own these prototype emblems!
The only other example in my private collection that also shows the arrow under the vertical part can be seen in the next photo. I believe this emblem came on the fenders of the 1984 Regal T-Type. Remember, the 1984 T-Type Regals were not produced in large numbers. Now, over 30 years later, they are extremely rare to see.
PHOTO 2 - We show the only other exterior Power Six logo emblem where the arrow is under the vertical part. I believe this is from a 1984 Regal T-Type. Also pictured from my collection are a 1981 Indy 500 Buick Pace Car cloth patch and a 1983 Indy 500 Buick Pace Car cloth patch. Both show the arrow as the more recognizable design.
With that being said, you now know Buick tweaked the Power Six logo in more than one application. I have no idea as to the reason why, but you now see visual proof that they did indeed use two different designs!
In the next photo from my private collection I have a similar emblem that dates back to around 1966-1967. I bought it years ago and I believe it is the only one in existence.
The Hurst Olds, especially the early ones, are highly collectible and have been for many years.
Even though in my early days I pursued GTOs and have a very extensive rare Hurst collection of prototypes and artwork, I have never owned a Hurst Olds. The closest I have come was in 2000 when I bought a 12,000-mile 1987 Olds 442 hardtop. If I recall, the seller was a local GTO collector and he wanted to move the car quickly so he could buy a GTO Judge. I was his answer. I ended up selling it locally to a guy whose Dad owned a car dealership. Of course with that background, they went over my Olds 442 with a fine tooth comb to make sure it was as described. He did buy the car. A few years later I, in turn, bought a used car from their dealership.
This next photo clearly shows the original Hurst Olds prototype emblem and then a production Hurst Olds emblem.
PHOTO 3 - The emblem on top is a metal casting prototype Hurst Olds emblem, which matches exactly in overall size to the one used for production. The only visible difference is that on the prototype the words “OLDS” is in a different font style and extends past the circle so the letter S is out of the circle. The letter O is flattened and stretched when compared to the actual production emblem. I am sure any Hurst Olds collector would love to own this piece of rare history. I doubt many of the Hurst Olds owners even realize this prototype exists!
IN CASE YOU’RE WONDERING -
You may wonder why Hurst made a Hurst Olds and not a Hurst GTO. I often wondered that myself. There is no denying that the GTO contract for Hurst was their huge money maker beginning with the 1964 GTO. George Hurst’s favorite car was the Oldsmobile. That is why Hurst teamed up with Oldsmobile and the rest, as they say, is history. I was told this years ago by several Hurst employees.
TURBO REGAL WINDOW STICKERS -
Turbo Regal Window Stickers can be a little misleading since only the last 10,000 Grand Nationals were actually listed as a Grand National model. Prior to this, the turbo package, T package or Grand National package was listed under options. What many owners today may forget is how the dealers tweaked the overall pricing with dealers-added services and products. These would be reflected on an additional sheet alongside the actual Window Sticker.
Most of these additional items could be rust proofing, or fabric protection, or paint protection. This could typically add another $1,000 or more to the price of the car. Where the price really takes a major leap happened not only with the GNX which was limited production, but also with Grand Nationals as the production was coming to an end in December of 1987.
PHOTO 4 - We show a typical original Window Sticker for a 1987 Grand National. Since this particular car was titled as a Grand National, it shows it was built towards the end of production.
Besides the usual small items added to the price, this dealer tacked on another $4,000 dollars. I am not sure what the “MVI” code stands for related to the $4,000 additional in charges. I have seen these large additional figures elsewhere stated as “adjustable market value.” In this instance, these additional costs added up to over $6,200 on this particular 1987 Grand National. To the buyer that chose financing, that is a chunk of change added to your monthly car payment!
COMING NEXT WEEK - TRANSLATOR BRACKET -
One of our customers has made a neat looking bracket to secure the translator under the hood. No holes get drilled. It is made from a type of plastic. Eliminates wire tying the translator under the hood. Once installed, the bracket is barely visible. The part number is #7785 and the price is $29.95.
This new bracket will be pictured in next week’s Inner Circle.
You can call Christina to order one since it is not on our website yet - 215-766-1611 x 0.
CECELIA CONLY RIP -
Cecelia Conly died last week. Although my readers don’t know that name, you are aware of the company she and her husband Gil founded in 1963 - Yum Yums donuts in Warminster, Pennsylvania.
I started buying Yum Yums donuts in the mid-1970s. I found it very useful when I would take Hurst four-speed shifters down to the Hurst plant to have them rebuilt. Fresh Yum Yums donuts resulted in my shifters getting rebuilt in a matter of hours not days, and at no charge. I then could ship them back to my customers the same day.
In the mid-1980s when we decided to have a three-story addition built onto one side of our house, I had it in the contact that the builders would get a box of a dozen Yum Yums donuts every single morning. This same builder was already making us GTO parts. Each box was numbered. The deal was when number 50 was delivered, the addition had to be completed. They accomplished that goal on time. They probably gained a little weight at the same time.
We have supplied Yum Yums donuts for many years for our Annual Open House events. Although I did not know the founder personally, I do know one of her daughters, Donna who operates the Warminster location. They have a total of three locations in an area surrounded by Dunkin Donut stores.
This Spring Open House will be no different as Yum Yums donuts will be on the morning menu. Come early to not miss out on the Yum Yums donuts… it’s a real treat!
GIRL SCOUT COOKIES -
We all have our favorite Girl Scout cookies. Mine are the mint chocolate. I doubt the mint chocolate cookies are listed as a healthy snack.
I just read where one girl, over a nine-year period, sold over 10,000 boxes of the $4 cookies. This girl has the moxie to be a super sales person in years to come, if she chooses that profession.
BREAKING NEWS PRICE REDUCTION -
We are happy to announce a price reduction on the GM-style rear fillers and if you buy a pair of fronts and rears as a Package Deal.
The new price for the Reproduction GM-style REAR Bumper Filler Panels (2), part #7439, is $425.
If you buy the Reproduction GM-style FRONT & REAR Bumper Filler Panels (4) Set, part #7440, you pay just $500 - a savings of $79.95 over the old price for the set.
The price for just the Reproduction GM-style FRONT Bumper Filler Panels (2), part #7438, remains unchanged.
NEW PART FROM US -
We now offer rebuilt front brake calipers that are powder-coated black so they won’t rust. It just makes sense to add this product to our system since we carry powder-coated front brake rotors.

COMING SOON - “GRAND NATIONAL” LOGO SEAT ARMOUR™ SEAT COVER -
Since introducing the Buick Motorsports, T-Type and GNX Seat Amour seat covers, we have received several requests about getting our supplier to make one featuring the Grand National logo. I am happy to report that we are currently working on that one. The company has already granted us exclusive sales of that one as well.
Watch for updates in the Inner Circle as to when we will have the Grand National one available. The pricing would be the same as the other versions we currently sell. Actually, we have several others for other car models in the works also being made exclusively for our company. All of these seat covers will be on display and for sale at our upcoming Spring Open House, April 22nd, 2017.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

TIP FROM KIRBAN -
Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. Two examples would be to replace the inside rearview mirror, if it has a discoloration. Our part number for this mirror is #7707, with a price of just $21.95.
Also, to see better at nighttime, upgrade to our H3 headlight system, which includes a plug-in harness, so no wires in your car get cut. The difference is amazing while still retaining a factory original look. Our part number for this system is #7530, with a price of just $129.95.
CORES NEEDED -
Here is the information on our credits for cores.
URGENT NEED - 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheels. They must not be bent or rusted. We will issue a $75 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core.
URGENT NEED - TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock turbo. They must be complete. We will issue you a $125 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core.
If you ship to us, the post office is the cheapest method. Pack the item(s) with a note with your name, address and phone number.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
With over $3,700 currently in raffle items, this Spring Open House promises to be something special. Event happens rain or shine. Plan to come.

June 27th, 2017, 6 until 9 pm
