MARCH CARTOON -
PHOTO 1 - Our first photo shows this month’s “The Adventures of Tommy Turbo” cartoon. It clearly depicts the idea of having a special funeral procession based around the Grand Nationals, with the caption "KIND OF RESPECTFUL… EVERYBODY SHOWING UP IN BLACK CARS!"
If you have any idea for a Turbo Regal cartoon, send me an email [email protected]. Fred has already done 20 of them for us and we could use some ideas.
ATLANTIC CITY CLASSIC CAR SHOW -
I was able to get down to the Atlantic City Classic Car Show at the Convention Center this past Friday. It featured a wide array of vehicles for sale by various companies and individuals, as well as an auction. My friend Greg got me a pass and took me out to lunch. On the way down I stopped at one of Jersey's "You Pull It Yards" that I was last at in the summer time. My threshold for cold is 20-25 degrees for maybe 1 hour or so in a junkyard!
As is probably the case of most indoor events, they have a captive audience when it comes to food. The AC Convention Center was no exception. It was $9 for their famous sausage and another $4 for a small Lemonade.
My one buddy, who years ago I had bought two Turbo cars from, sold a 1987 Turbo T that he had. It was a black one with the chrome package and T-Tops. It was a very nice original car with, I think, 35,000 miles on it. He sold it for $17,000.
In the Car Corral section was a very unusual 1987 Turbo-T. The car was the rare light blue color. Originally this Turbo-T had a half-padded roof and it also had the extra wide stainless at the bottom of both sides. It was not a Limited. It had a decent blue interior. The body needed major attention and the padded roof was simply ripped off, leaving behind traces of the original roof and exposing the various rivets and weld markings in the roof pillar area.
PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows a partial view 1987 Turbo-T that was for sale in the Car Corral section. The price was $10,000 or best offer. I am told he was offered $7,500 and turned it down. The top right photo shows a close up of the driver's side pillar. You may be able to see parts of the vinyl roof still attached to the quarter glass and bits of the molding around the rear window glass. The roof also had several dents. The bottom left shows the engine compartment. One critical mistake here is running the plug wires over top of the upper plenum. I am not sure what all the vacuum lines went to, as the car still retained a powermaster brake unit. The bottom right photo shows the front end. Since it is a chrome package car, the grill should not be black.
PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows the 1987 Grand National with T-Tops with a mere 2,000 actual miles showing. The top right shows the engine compartment. The car had two wrong intercooler hoses and an aftermarket battery. Other than that the car appeared like factory new. It was undercoated underneath. According to Greg who checked with the seller, the Grand National was bid to $32,000 and was a no sale. The bottom left shows a 1986 Pontiac 2 Plus 2. The bottom right shows a nice original 1986 Corvette. The Corvette had a price tag of just $7,655. I did not see a price on the Pontiac. A 1986 Grand National in the same condition would bring considerably more than either of these cars and would also draw more attention.
I did see one nice 1986 Monte Carlo SS for sale, priced under $10,000. The car was white with a grey interior and it was a hardtop model. Again, a 1986 Grand National in equal condition would fetch several grand more.
PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows the 1986 Monte Carlo SS. What I thought was really cool was one of the vendors makes life-size and life-like characters. They are very well detained and do not look like a store mannequin. They have over 23 different ones currently in their inventory that can either stand up or sit on a bar stool. The top right photo shows a close up of some of the characters sitting. The bottom left shows a wide variety of the various characters they have. The bottom right shows a typical service station man from the 1940s alongside a restored gas pump. They sell them in any style clothing you want, from gas jockeys to doctors. They have all the various gas station patches or car dealer patches to make them very authentic looking.
According to their sales person, she said they run $595 each plus shipping. Shipping for the standup ones are more money to ship than the sitting ones because they are over sized. They have features and bendable arms and legs, which can be posed. They also have the ability to turn their head. Their website is - http://www.charactersbydave.com
Their phone number is 800-303-5054, 618-592-3338 or 618-553-2767. They are located in Oblong, Illinois.
More coverage of the Atlantic City event next week.
MORE DETAILS ON THE LOWER STEERING SHAFTS -
We have zeroed in on the one refurbished lower steering shaft, which we feel is the best for the G-Body cars, including the Turbo Regals. It is one that actually comes out of a newer GM vehicle than the Jeep style. Also it is encased in a rubber boot, so it has escaped years of corrosion. It is harder to find than the Jeep one though. This is the only refurbished shaft we will be offering. The source that refurbishes them for us and makes the necessary modification, has done quite a number of these over the years. He has found this one easier to work with than the earlier Jeep one.
He does have to modify these GM lower steering shafts and paints them so they look show quality when I get them. Each one comes with very detailed directions with photos. You only need to make one minor modification to the main steering column. You have to make a small notch near the base of the main steering column in order for the upper clinch bolt on the refurbished lower shaft to seat properly. All this is explained with detailed directions and photos that come with each lower shaft. It is no different than the Jeep shaft as far as installation goes. This later GM lower steering shaft now gives you a metal joint at both ends, instead of the flexible rag joint at the gear box end.
The other week it was my first attempt at trying to get one out of this specific GM vehicle. Unfortunately, I did not have all the tools I needed, so I went back this past Saturday and was able to get not only that one, but I found three others as well. My threshold for cold is about 25 degrees and at best working 2 hours at most with those temperatures. Sunday I was also able to go to another nearby You Pull It Yard and I was able to get a few more of these GM lower steering shafts.
At the same time you consider doing this upgrade to replace the flexible rag joint lower steering shaft, we highly recommend you replace the main steering shaft bearing kit, our Part #7572. It is on our website. GM simply used two rubber seals instead of a steel ball bearing format. You have to remove the lower steering shaft to install this bearing, which is why it's wise to have this on hand at the same time.
FRANNY BEECHER RECENTLY PASSED AWAY -
His name might not be one you remember, but Franny Beecher was the lead guitarist for Bill Haley and the Comets. They helped kick off the rock-and-roll era with the hit “Rock Around the Clock” back in 1955. He was 92 years old. Regardless of your age, that record translates over many generations and has been in the background in several movies as well.
1981 EL CAMINO FOR SALE -
My friend Greg Glenn has a fairly unique 1981 restore El Camino for sale. It has fewer than 60,000 original miles on the body. He suspects it was restored about 10 years ago and is virtually rust free. The entire exterior is a Dale Earnhardt tribute car, complete with all the proper decals, including the huge number 3 decal. Originally it was a six cylinder and now has a 350 engine stroked to 400 with a turbo transmission. It has a bench seat with very few options. Everything works. El Caminos are hard to find in nice shape. The price is $12,500.
For more information, contact me - [email protected]
CAR FOR SALE 1987 GRAND NATIONAL -
This 1987 Grand National For Sale is located in Georgia and has just under 21,000 actual miles. It has factory T-Tops and runs out extremely nice. The current owner only put about 500 miles on it since buying it over a year ago.
The car is a two-owner car and has always been garaged. The current owner replaced the radiator, headliner, powermaster brake unit, as well as the brake proportioning valve. He also had a complete tune-up done.
The reason he is selling is they are expecting a baby. We originally handled this deal when the car was owned previously in New Jersey. The car does have some minor paint issues and needs a few things done to be perfect. It needs a power antenna, A/C charged, front bumper fillers, and the radio repaired. The price is $17,900.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -
If you have a tip or a discovery that you found that works on your Turbo Regal, drop us an email giving us the details so we can pass the info on to our readers. Remember, even with my knowledge, I don’t know it all. Simply email me at - [email protected]
ONE OF OUR PERSONAL CARS FOR SALE -
We are looking at upgrading one of our cars. This may interest one of our local customers. Car is a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix coupe with the 3800 engine. It is not the supercharged version. We are the second owner. Garaged and never smoked in. Silver with a grey cloth interior. Car is absolutely show quality inside and out. Coupes are very hard to find in nice condition with good miles on them.
I looked at several before purchasing this one. Car has new Hankook tires, new powder-coated brake rotors, new brake pads, new GM HD front and rear sway bars, new headlights, new tail lights, just to name a few upgrades. Car has most of the major options, except for the supercharger and sunroof. Has a clean Car Fax with only 65,000 original miles. Latest PA inspection, and runs and drives 100%. Nothing inside or out shows even a hint of any wear issues. Wheels are perfect. Everything works. Buyer gets all my records related to the car. Looking for $4,995 or best offer. You would be hard pressed to find a cleaner example. I rather sell it outright than use it as a trade.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -
1969-1995 GM Cars, including 1969-1988 GM A-Body & G-Body Cars, including 1984-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
Reproduction UPGRADED UPPER STEERING COLUMN BEARING KIT
This reproduction steering bearing kit replaces the factory GM bushing kit found at the base of the main steering column. It replaces the following four GM parts: adapter #7805822, bearing #7805700, retainer #7804440, and retainer clip #7804439.
It will fit virtually every GM car from 1969 through 1995.
Ideally, you would want to replace this if you are changing the lower steering shaft, or replacing the steering coupler that attaches to the gear box. The reason is, the lower steering shaft has to be removed to slip the old bearing assembly out and install the new one. You do not have to remove the main steering shaft that this bearing kit goes on to.
This reproduction upgraded bearing kit includes everything you need and comes with the bearing already pressed into the plastic adapter. By offering it as a complete kit, it eliminates any issues with having to try to save any of the original related parts when you remove the old bearing.
Over the years, GM has used either a metal bearing or simply used a rubber-like seal that attached on each side of the plastic adapter. Our research shows that it appears GM simply used a rubber-like two-piece seal on all the 1984-1987 Regals and other G-Body cars. Other cars, such as some of the Corvettes, received the upgraded metal bearing, as did many of the GM vehicles in the early 1990s. By upgrading to a metal ball bearing format, it provides a much tighter secure fit and one that will outlast your car!
It comes with easy-to-follow directions.
Another great steering restoration item to tighten up the steering. A very inexpensive upgrade to do.
NOTE - We also offer related items - 1977-1988 GM A-Body & G-Body Cars including Buick Turbo Regal - Steering Coupler, Part #7569; and 1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal, Rebuilt Power Steering Gear Box, Part #7380.

1977-1988 GM A-Body & G-Body Cars including Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction STEERING COUPLER (RAG JOINT)
This reproduction steering coupler is for power steering applications only.
The original steering coupler (rag joint) can become sloppy over years of use or if any engine fluids have spilled on it.
The original GM steering coupler is part of the lower steering shaft. It is not a separate serviceable part from GM. It may not be visible because of the plastic collar, which surrounds the lower steering shaft.
This cover can be unclipped and pushed upward to expose the steering coupler. In order to install this new steering coupler, you need to remove the lower steering shaft and grind off the two drive pins holding the original coupler to the upper flange that is pressed onto the lower steering shaft.
Replacing the original steering coupler (rag joint) is the least expensive option to restore the steering and eliminate any play related to a weak or sloppy steering coupler.
It comes with easy-to-follow directions.
Another great steering restoration item.
NOTE - We also offer a related item - 1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal, Rebuilt Power Steering Gear Box, Part #7380.
NOTE - If you need a steering coupler for another GM car or truck, contact our office, 215-766-1611. We have a complete list of all the vehicles this steering coupler fits, which includes most GM cars from 1977 thru 1995 and most GM trucks from 1982 through 2002. This includes: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac.

1984-1987 Buick Regal (2-Door Models)Spoolfool Hand-laid FiberglassTwo-Piece FRONT Black Bumper Filler Panels and 1981-1987 Buick Regal One-Piece REAR Black Bumper Filler
NOTE - These fit all two-door Regal models from 1984 through the 1987 Regal models, including all the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals.
Over time, the front and rear bumper fillers may deteriorate.
The front body bumper fillers are the flexible parts located between the front bumper and the front portion of the car on either side of the grille opening. Over the years, original front body bumper filler extensions can crack and crumble due to heat and age. They can also lose their shape and droop.
The factory original GM front body bumper fillers are no longer available. The original GM version had 2 pieces, a left and a right.
The rear bumper filler is located between the back bumper and the rear body panel.
The factory original GM rear body bumper filler is no longer available.
We offer reproductions from Spoolfool Filler panels, made in the U.S.A.
Mike Bernard owner of Spoolfool crafted the unique one-piece rear bumper filler from scratch and did about 90% of the work himself. He has over 200 hours into making the prototype. Every square inch has been created from scratch or created from an original set of the two-piece design.
Spoolfool bumper fillers are made from hand-laid fiberglass in the U.S.A. Due to the nature of these materials, small imperfections; pits, scratches, air bubbles, etc. are to be expected and are normal for this type of product. These fillers come in a gloss black gelcoat. The gelcoat is meant to be painted over; however, many customers are happy with how they look right out of the box. While the color may not be a perfect match, it may get you by until you're ready to paint the whole car. All products are pre-drilled and ready to install. The gelcoat finish is such a high quality that some owners simply install the fillers without having them painted. If you decide to paint these fillers, no flex agent is needed.
Some holes may need to be slightly elongated, as every car is unique from the factory.
Mike has had great success with his one-piece rear bumper filler design, which eliminates the overlap design that Buick had with the original two-piece design. The unique rear filler one-piece design gives the back end of your car a cleaner look. Mike had a real passion for this project, since he also owns a Grand National. He has been producing these filler since the summer of 2012.
All his fillers are pre-drilled from his templates. Since all the holes are pre-drilled, the fit is excellent. These reproductions attach exactly like the originals using all the same original attaching hardware. Once installed, these fillers look identical to the originals. The difference is the rear filler is one piece.
NOTE - For more info, search out the fillers on - www.turbobuick.com - website. There are also 2 videos on YouTube -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7b7GsO3ZVEY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bxWHcLcvsM
Or you can search "SPOOLFOOL’S FIBERGLASS" on YouTube.
Because of the size of the one-piece rear filler, shipping is based on the oversized box. Shipping can be adjusted if two rear one-piece filler panels can be shipped at the same time as two will fit in a single box. Filler panels are made in the U.S.A.
ORDERING NOTE - In order to compute the proper shipping costs, you must contact our office to order any of these 3 parts - 215-766-1611. These are currently drop-shipped from California.
NOTE - We recommend these be installed by a qualified body shop.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -
It's hard to believe our Annual Spring Open House is less than 5 weeks away and yet winter does not seem to be letting up in our immediate area.
