Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 02-24-2021 -

THANZ FOR ALL THE EMAILS I RECEIVED CONCERNING THE DEATH OF TIGER -

I just wanted to say thanz for all the emails I received on the recent passing of Tiger who lived a full life. Even as I type this I still have trouble going to my office. Pets form a strong bond with us humans that care for them.

NEW PRODUCT 1984-1987 BUICK TURBO REGAL FRONT SWAY BAR BOLTS -

The bolts used to secure the front sway bar on all the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals as well as the other G-body models is a unique grade 12 bolt. They also have a 12 point flange head on the bolt. It’s not a bolt you can find at your local hardware store! One of our longtime customers David Stecko discovered finding the proper size grade bolts with the special shoulder needed to clear the factory clamps that secure the front sway bar is not a very common bolt. The ones currently holding your front sway bar to the frame are over 30 years old and in many cases can be badly rusted.

He recommends squirting such as product WD-40 in the nearby inspection holes so the bolts are easier to remove. Only other option is flipping the car on the roof so you can properly get a lubricant to coat the threads on the original bolts! The bolts we have are identical in length, are grade 12.9 which have a minimum tensile strength of 180,000 psi. These are 12 point flange bolts. The shoulder is slightly different from the originals but still fits the factory clamps and works fine.

CLICK HERE - for the link to these bolts on our website.

PHOTO 1 - We show both the original used 4 front sway bolts and the 4 new ones. Our part number is #7925. The price is $14.95 for the set of 4. We have them currently in stock.

MORE USED TURBO REGAL PARTS FOR SALE -

The listing and prices for these pictured Turbo Regals parts can be found in the Rare Parts section at the end of this email. Only subscribers get to see these rare parts.

STOCK APPEARING INTERCOOLER HOSE SETS EXPECTED THIS WEEK -

We have been waiting for these stock appearing hoses since we ordered last November 2020! Our order is finally currently in route to us. We should have it by the end of this week. This set of 3 hoses look exactly like the original GM ones only slightly thicker and longer to avoid the issues the original 3 intercooler hoses had. A woven like exterior with orange inside. Part #7553. Our supplier also has informed us that it will be 6 to 8 weeks before we get any more. Once he told us that I bought all the ones he had in stock besides what we had on order. I believe we are the only Turbo Regal supplier of these hoses. The good news is the price remains unchanged at just $44.95 for the set of 3. The supply chain for parts, and the mail system all have been the worse we have experienced in recent memory. In the last two weeks we got several Christmas cards!

BE SURE TO CHECK IT OUT LOWER PRICES ON THE FOLLOWING PARTS -

These new lower prices have been changed on our website. The popular #7386 upper dash panel is now just $149.95 plus shipping. The #7222 black 1984-1987 Turbo Regal headlight bezels is now just $139.95 a pair plus shipping. The #7439 rear GM style rear fillers is now just $269.95 for the set plus shipping. The price for a full set of front and rear GM style fillers is now just $429.95 plus shipping. The savings is approximately $70 when you purchase a full set of GM style front and rear fillers.

PONTIAC G8 GT STILL FOR SALE -

The 2009 Pontiac G8 GT is still available for sale. Only made these a very few years. This G8 GT is powered by the 6.0 litre engine. These cars are extremely quick. I drove one years ago. This G8 GT is the popular color silver exterior with the two tone red and black seats. The car only has 72,000 miles on it and also has a clean carfax. The car looks virtually new from any angle. Even with the low front spoiler no scraps that I saw. No curb rash on the wheels. The dealer wants $17,700. For more info email me directly [email protected] I can go check it out for any interested buyer.

I did pick up the Chrysler Crossfire just hours before the last snow storm hit this area. That car will be heading to its new home in Arizona in a few weeks once the weather in my area improves! I already shoveled this car out twice.

GM HHR SS FOR SALE -

I spotted this on Sunday in a parking lot of over 400 trade in cars behind the one bid lot I go to. Currently I do not have any information other than what I saw. It is a 2009 HHR SS. This one is a manual 5 speed. From what I read the 5-speed manual shift version pumped out 260 HP while the 4-speed automatic was limited to just 235 HP. I could not find any production numbers to determine how many 5-speed manual ones were produced in the regular HHR format. The panel truck HHR SS on the other hand is extremely rare at 216 produced. This one is red with a red and black interior. The HHR seems very well optioned and in real nice condition. For more information email me direct [email protected]. Being turbocharged, and backed up with a 5-speed manual transmission with 260 hp looks like it would be a fun vehicle to drive.

UPDATE ON HHR SS -

It has 110,000 miles on it. They are waiting on the title to come back from the state. Carfax does show one accident. They want $7500 to buy it or I can wait til see what it bids to buy at the bid lot at some point in the future. I can pursue this further if it perks anyone's interest.

PHOTO 3 - Here are some pictures of this snow covered HHR SS. It was unlocked so one picture shows the interior and the manual 5-speed shifter.

UNUSUAL ITEMS FOR SALE -

The person I sold the 33,000 mile Turbo-T for the other week from North Carolina has just one Muncie Transmission still available. We already sold the later Muncie. It is the early 1963-1965 style with the 2.56 first gear. It has been rebuilt with new bearings, gaskets, synchros rings, and sliders as well as small parts. The price is $795. He will not ship. He may deliver within a 100 mile radius of his home in the Northeast part of North Carolina or in March will be driving up to visit his kids in my area. Note: This Muncie may also be sold to a customer in Norway if shipping can be worked out thru a shipping service in Delaware. This customer has a GTO in Norway. (Can’t be many GTOS in that country!)

He also has a very unusual Buick Turbo Item completely disassembled. It is a 1978 Buick Carburetor non intercooled V6. It is 99% complete with all the vital parts Has new rings, bearings, gaskets, for assembly. With it goes GM drawings, parts lists, and original brochure. The price is $450. It has a forged crank which may for the later turbo engines. He will not ship this. He also has a pair of redone 1979 and up V6 heads. Should be the same as the 1986-1987 Turbo V6 heads. The price is $300 for the pair. He may be able to ship these.

Email me [email protected] and I will provide you with the information to contact John.

HERE ARE TWO MORE RARE ITEMS FOR SALE -

In both cases I have more photos available and can provide the email address for the seller. He only wants serious buyers. First is a brand new never worn GNX JACKET. The size is XXL. It is very hard to find the bigger size original GNX jackets. The price tag for this mint XXL unused GNX jacket is $2995. With the GNX prices continuing to rise this is one item most potential buyers always ask the seller if they have the jacket. Email me personally [email protected] I can provide seller information.

This same seller has a fully restored #5 1989 Turbo Trans Am Festival car for sale. The suspension has all been redone Metco control arms, tubular front cross member, race shocks front and rear. Transmission stage built by Jimmy's Transmission, 3 bullet deep pan 9,5 race convertor. New carpet and new headliner. Cloth Interior with T-Tops. Engine has been worked scat crankshaft, JE forged pistons, ARP bolts, factory heads and intake ported, Precision plenum 70mm, PT67 turbo with 3 inch downpipe and custom 3 inch exhaust. Every part on the engine has been powder coated. I LT 3.5 inch maf sensor, 60lb injectors, Walbro fuel pump, hotwired, Jet coated headers. Plus more! The price tag is $27,495 OBO possible trades considered. Email me personally [email protected] I can provide seller information.

UPDATE ON REBUILDING OLDERS ALTERNATORS, GENERATORS, & STARTERS -

My source just rebuilt for one of our customers his 1967 GTO alternator. He put the proper size pulley on it. All new external plated hardware and new internals. The proper cad plated fan and pulley. Originally the GTO alternator put out 37 amps and now puts out 68 amps when he bench tested it. So that is quite an improvement besides having new internals and a factory new appearance. The price for this rebuild service is just $179.95 plus shipping.

PHOTO 4 - We show two photos of the GTO alternator. The before and after it was totally rebuilt. So if you have an earlier collector car or truck in hibernation for the winter now is the time to get the alternator or generator redone. It does not need to be a GM model. Any make or model my source can rebuild it. He has over 35 years experience. Each is bench tested before I pick it up to ship. It's best to ship UPS and insure the unit. I hand deliver and pick it up from my source that personally rebuilds them.

STORY FROM MY PAST - GMC SYCLONE -

Long time readers know that when the GMC Syclone was introduced we were fortunate enough to have GMC bring their prototype Syclone to our big Reunion event at the Navy Air Base in Johnsville, PA. One of two events we did at this huge military base in the early 1990s. The one year I counted at least 99 Grand Nationals bumper to bumper on two rows. An amazing display of Grand Nationals that probably was never duplicated again. We even had GNX 547 at the event. I can’t remember if it was that year or the other Reunion Event we did at the Johnsville Air Base we actually had the Saturday night banquet on the base in one of the aircraft hangers! In the same hanger at the back of the hanger was a helicopter. This was all made possible because our good friend was the chief of Police for that town back then. GMC had never had a display at any independent car show event prior to our event. GM normally only does displays at National events. However, GMC with the turbocharged Syclone realized the target market was the Turbo Regal owner. Also held on a military base security was top notch. Owners left their cars at the show overnight with zero worries. It was a 2-day event.

Months later I was able to purchase the Syclone they used for all the magazine articles and testing. It had around 9,000 miles on it. Here is one story about this unique all wheel drive turbocharged GMC pick up truck.

My wife and I went out one summer Sunday morning to Yum Yums for donuts. On the way back home I took a different route which took me past a huge parking lot that was across from the Johnsville Air Base. The same airbase we held our two biggest car events at. I looked over and noticed a group of cars mostly Porsche and VW models. They had an obstacle course set up with traffic cones and were doing like time runs through the course that was set up in this huge parking lot. We decided to stop and observe the action. After watching a few Porsche cars run through the course I asked one of the people that was running the event could I run my truck through the course to see what it would do. They said ok. I could tell they had no idea that our little black truck had a turbo backed up by a Corvette transmission and was all wheel drive.

I had never ever run an obstacle course before so to avoid embarrassment I did it slowly for the first few times before I figured I would test the limits of the Syclone and my limited skills. The first few times I finished last or near last for time around the course. I gradually increased my speed and skills and worked my way up to I believe the 3rd best time of the day. When I clocked that time some of the Porsche and VW owners suddenly took note of this little black GMC truck with fat tires wondering what was under the hood since it was unlike any S-10 or S15 truck they were familiar with.

When we left they had a new appreciation of the little black Syclone. Quick acceleration, all wheel drive, fat tires, and great handling characteristics was the perfect combination. The Johnsville Air Base is long gone. Apartments, warehouse, and a nursing home now occupy that area. The Hurst plant built in 1964 across the street has doubled in size and the company I believe makes food containers. All memories from the 1980s and 1990s. Hurst sold out around 1985. Hurst actually approached me in the 1980s about running a car show for them but the dates would not work out for me. Just great memories. In 1970 Eileen actually worked in the PR department at Hurst and drove a 1964 GTO to work that had a Hurst 4-speed shifter in it.

HURST AND JOHNSVILLE AIRBASE CONNECTION -

George Hurst was a Navy man in his youth and was actually stationed at nearby Willow Grove Air Base which was huge. Today it's basically deserted. Its runways would make a great ¼ mile race track and pump some money into the local economy as nothing exists in this area anymore. My one neighbor when I was growing up served with George Hurst in the Navy. Anyhow, Hurst never really discounted any of their product lines even if the product fell out of favor in the marketplace. Because George loved the Navy and never wanted to discount any products, rumors always circulated that some of his discontinued products were buried under the runways or buildings when sections of the Johnsville Airbase were built. It's never been proven. I do know that Hurst flew a huge American Flag on a metal flag pole in front of their building. At one point one of the Navy planes almost hit the top of the flag pole since it was in a direct path apparently off one of the runways. A shorter pole was erected in its place. That story is supposedly true.

I consider myself fortunate that I grew up in the area that I did. Most major automotive aftermarket companies in the 1960s were located in California. Hurst with its main product the shifters and the hugely successful “Jaws of Life” were built and created where I grew up. In my towing days I also towed for the local Oldsmobile dealer so I towed some of the Hurst Olds cars that Hurst executives drove.

WE ACQUIRED TWO MORE NICE VEHICLES FOR SALE -

If you are fairly local to us one of these two cars may be of interest. I can provide more info and photos of each. Both are 2011 models. One is a real nice red 2011 Chevy Cruze. It is a rare 6-speed manual shift model with the turbo engine!. Hard to find manual shift Cruze models with the turbo powerplant. Never smoked in. One owner. Red with black interior and chrome wheels. PA inspected showing just 133,000 miles. Up to date service and inspection. Drives great. A fun car. The Cruze has a very nice modern gauge layout. $4855 is the price. I hand picked this car at the bid lot.

The other car is a 2011 Subaru Outback. It has the 2.5 four cylinder engine all wheel drive automatic. Two owners with a clean carfax. Miles is 194,000. It is in amazing condition inside and out Kirban quality without me doing anything to it. This Subaru is outstanding from any angle inside and out. No odors, and non-smokers. No warning lights on. Drives quiet and smooth. Car shows it has had extremely great care from previous owners. Just $4495. For more info and photos email me direct [email protected]

Both available at 611 Auto Sales, 8307 Easton Road, Ottsville, PA. 18942

FOR SALE 1987 CORVETTE COUPE WITH JUST 9,800 ORIGINAL MILES -

A long time friend of mine who we have bought and sold cars to each other recently acquired a super mint original 1987 Corvette. This car is well documented and includes the window sticker. Original tires and original 1987 air still in the tires. Kirban quality. It has been garaged since day one. The original owner passed away a few years back. His spouse kept the car garaged. She has since then passed away so the family just sold it to my friend. It is blue on blue. According to my source you would be hard pressed to find a better original example of a 1987 Corvette coupe than this car is. This pristine 1987 Corvette with the glass top is located in New Jersey. This same source has sold me several Turbo Regals and we sold a GNX together years ago.

I should have photos soon as well as a picture of the window sticker. This Corvette new in 1987 I believe sold for $33 grand. This example is well optioned including double power seats. Be neat to have a 1987 Turbo Regal and a 1987 Corvette since both cars in 1987 were considered the two quickest GM cars back then. The price is $19,500. For more info and pictures email me direct [email protected] Partial trades considered.

THE LAST KIRBAN BUILT LAMBORGHINI KIT CAR IS COMING UP FOR SALE -

My son who built the Lamborghini car is selling it for the original owner he built it for back in 2000. At that time the buyer had bought a brand new Fiero and with only 1,000 miles on the Fiero it was taken apart for this one of a kind Lamborghini kit car. Since then it has been driven less than 500 total miles! It has been sitting inside a bubble in a heated and air conditioned garage in New York! It has been stored like this by the original owner for 20 years. The very last one my son built.

It will be transported to his shop which is next to our house in the next few weeks. If this peaks your interest email me direct [email protected] He already has interested buyers on this car due to its unique history and the fact it has remained virtually untouched for 20 years not to mention the high quality storage the car has had all these years.

You never know what our weekly Inner Circle emails will feature. Be nice to find a Yugo at some point. I would probably keep it as a centerpiece in one of the shrubbery beds around our house!

KIRBAN REQUEST -

I am looking at buying a smaller handheld vacuum cleaner with various attachments that would be easier to use than the big shop vac floor model I currently use. I currently have a fairly old Craftsman floor model 6 gallon capacity, 6 hp with 170 blowing power. I want to be electric and close to the power output as my floor unit has, but easier to maneuver around cars and in cars. The 16 gallon floor unit I use is too bulky to maneuver in tight spaces. If you use a vacuum cleaner that matches my specifications, drop me an email [email protected] with the info. I greatly appreciate it. I am not wanting one that needs to be charged up.

COLLECTOR CAR COLLECTION UPDATE - THREE TURBO REGALS & ONE SYCLONE -

All these are still available. The 1986 blue T-Type and the 1987 Grand National he purchased brand new. He is the 3rd owner of the white 1987 Turbo-T. These cars are located in Tennessee.

In each case he has the original parts that he removed years ago when the modifications were done. Some of them have the very desirable AVC GNX style dash installed. In each case email me [email protected] and let me know which car interests you. I can forward you more photos and supply you with the email address to the seller.

All the below cars have been fitted with SECO alarm systems and keyless entry. In my opinion the blue 1986 T-Type is a fairly rare car due to its color. Plus it has low miles. All these cars have always been in Tennessee so rust is not an issue. All have been garaged most of their life.

He has a white 1987 Turbo Regal with T-Tops. He did not buy this car brand new. It has the M & A Casting aluminum heads on them that were introduced in the early 1990s time frame. I had one of the first sets on our personal Grand National. Back then they sold for around $2500 a set. This car has been raced and has run in the high 6 second range for the ⅛ mile. The car is slightly twisted due to its racing history and the fact it has T-Tops. Mileage is about 75,000. The price is $25,000 OBO.

The 1987 Grand National he purchased this car brand new and has 112,000. It has the rare astro roof option. It was repainted many years ago 1984 Corvette firemist color. Reasonably priced at $20,000 OBO.

The light blue Turbo Regal is a 1986 T-Type Regal. He purchased this car brand new. Due to the original poor quality paint job he actually had the Buick dealership respray the car under warranty. Internally stock with zero rust. Car has approximately 67,000 miles. It is a hardtop. The price is $25,000 OBO.

He also purchased the Syclone brand new. Like all the others listed here this also has been garaged since new. Mileage is approximately 9,500. The price is $44,900 OBO. The last three digits of the VIN is 294 which I believe is also the number of the Syclone produced.

For more photos on any of these three Turbo Regals and the Syclone email me directly [email protected] and specify which car perks your interest.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
NEW FRONT SWAY BAR BOLTS (4) SET

One of the unique bolts is the ones that secure the two metal brackets that hold the front sway bar to the frame.

After over 30 years, these unique bolts become rusted. One of our long-time customers researched the bolts and found a source that makes these unique bolts.

Bolts are Grade 12.9, which have a minimum tensile strength of 180,000 psi and are coated to prevent rust.

These are 12 point flange bolts. These have a slightly different shoulder, but still work.
Our photo shows four original rusted bolts at the top and four new replacement bolts at the bottom.

NOTE - A special thanks to David Stecko for providing us with this information.

NOTE - You may also be interested in these related parts - #6564 Painted Black Front Frame Braces (2) and #6756 Painted Black Connecting Front Brace.

“KIRBAN CUSTOMS INC.
HINTS & TIPS FOR BUYING AND BUILDING KIT CARS” Book

We are offering an interesting book, written by my son Darrell Kirban in 2000, relating to the auto kit car builders market. His skills for painting, body work and custom design work started at a very early age.

“KIRBAN CUSTOMS INC. HINTS & TIPS FOR BUYING AND BUILDING KIT CARS” gives useful and practical information based on the many kit car projects and years of experience he has designing and building kit cars.

The book measures 6″ x 9″, has over 100 pages, and 22 chapters with over 150 photos and illustrations.

Some of the chapter titles include: Choosing and Preparing the Donor Car, Choosing a Quality Kit, Wheels and Offsets, Useful Tools for Your Project, Hinging and Latching Panels, Mounting the Body, Basic Fiberglass Techniques, Bodywork, Interiors, Paint, Finishing Touches, Insurance and Appraisals, and Related Magazines.

If you are interested in kit cars, you’ll enjoy this book as Darrell has a knack for writing so the average person can understand the procedures. You may also know someone that is interested in kit cars and this would be a great gift item for them. Limited supplies available.

NOTE - Our copies will be autographed by Darrell Kirban while supplies last.

If you already have my book, “Kirban’s Guide to the 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regals,” (part #6757) you could own books from two generations of Kirbans. You could also go to eBay and find one of my dad’s books (search Salem Kirban.) He wrote over 50 books on Bible prophecy and health. This would give you books spanning three generations.

STAINLESS STEEL BLACK POWDER-COATED LICENSE FRAMES WITH TAGLINE DECAL -
OR TAGLINE DECALS -

One thing that has been missing all these years for the Turbo Regal owner is a nice stainless black powder-coated license plate frame. We have designed several with a unique tagline referring to some of the most collectible high-performance car models.

We have come up with the various designs shown in Photo 2.

The handsome metal black license plate frame measures 12-1/4″ x 6-1/4″, which is the standard size to hold state license plates. Frames are made from stainless steel, then powder-coated black for lasting quality.

Included with each frame is a packet of new attaching hardware, complete with black caps so the hardware doesn’t show.

Each frame comes with the decal already affixed. Most of the decals are white wording on a black background. Several decals are two colors (white and red) on a black background.

Notice the font style for the tagline “HIGH OUTPUT V6” decal matches the 3.8 sfi turbo hood emblems.

We also offer each decal separately in case you would like to apply it to any signs, a toolbox, etc.

Choose from the selection below.

NOTE - We offer the decals for $5 each. If you contact the office at 215-766-1611, you can purchase more than one decal at a time for a lower price. Example - Buy any 2 decals for $8.95 (save $2.05.) You must call to order multiple decals.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

We were recently contacted by two sources that once the winter weather ends hopefully we can strike a deal on a bunch of parts that both these sellers have accumulated over a number of years. In one case the individual has passed away. In the other instance the seller recently turned 80 years young. Will have more info on both deals once Spring gets here and it can’t be sooner enough! A solid week of temps never getting above freezing mark.

Please, if you have any original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal turbos, cash them in with us for the $175 Letter of Credit. This helps us help our customers obtain the rebuilt turbo they need for their car.
