NEW PRODUCT 1984-1987 BUICK TURBO REGAL - SCANMASTER STEERING COLUMN BRACKET -
Years ago we sold a similar bracket to mount the Scanmaster #6783 on the steering column so it is in the direct line of sight. That source stopped making them. We now have a new design. This source also makes for us the popular Translator bracket #7785 and the new dual fan bracket #7914. This new steering column bracket is made using the same material as the Translator bracket and is painted Turbo Regal grey so it will match most steering columns. Or, you can repaint it any color you want.
Our part number for the new Scanmaster steering column bracket is #7915. The price is $34.95 plus shipping and it is now in stock.
PHOTO 1 - We show various views of the new Scanmaster Steering Column Bracket and also show it installed on a Grand National steering column.
INTERESTING SIDE NOTE ON SOME OF THE PRODUCTS WE GET MADE -
In several instances parts we bring to market are actually made by people that do this on the side. In each case they have a love for the collector car market. The person behind the scanmaster bracket and the translator bracket owns a Turbo Regal. He most recently made for us the dual fan mounting bracket as well. The person who modifies the power antenna masts is in the Buick Club and owns another model Buick. Somehow I stumbled on his skill set and keep him very busy modifying power antenna cables. The person who makes the LED third brake light conversion and supplies us with the various LED bulbs I came across him as he is in the Ford Ranger club. I sold him Ford Ranger parts several years ago. The person who makes our LED dash light kit and the popular Touch and Go theft system is in the Pantera club. He is local to us. We deal with several others as well that make parts for us as a side business.
My point? All these people have a love for a particular vehicle not necessarily a Turbo Regal, but share the same love that our customers do.
1986-1987 TURBO REGAL AC DELCO WATER VALVE -
Earlier last week we received word from our local AC DELCO supplier that this part is no longer available. Some suppliers have a few in stock throughout the country, but for us it is not worth ordering the 2 or 3 they have and pay the added shipping and sometimes sales tax fees they tack on.
If you find a supplier that can verify they have one on the shelf I highly recommend you buy it before they realize it is no longer available. The few we have probably won’t last long.
To order you must call Christina at 215-766-1611 so she can reserve one for you. As of this writing we have about 18 on hand. Our part #6594 and our current price for our remaining stock is $79.95 plus shipping. Every aftermarket version looks nothing like the factory AC Delco part. You are getting this word first as an Inner Circle Member. AC DELCO has discontinued this critical original part. Eventually I am sure one of the major suppliers will reproduce this critical part.
On a side note the 4 molded hoses that attach to the AC Delco water valve and go alongside the water valve we have to buy them from two different suppliers as neither supplier has the full set available. (Two of the hoses are the same, only 3 hoses are different of the 4 hoses in the kit).
PHOTO 2 - We show both the original AC Delco part alongside the AC Delco box and also on the original 7,700 mile Grand National currently in my possession. This is part #6594.
DODGE CHALLENGER OWNERS -
Last week we asked our readers “Who owns a Hemi Dodge Challenger?” I was surprised at the response as we heard from over a dozen members. I did some more research and it turns out this part we have will fit every 2005 through 2020 Charger and Chrysler 300 besides all the 2009-2020 Challenger models. This is a huge market. We just received our first small shipment yesterday. We have more on order. Shipments take time as the part first has to come from Michigan to our local dealer. The strut cap is not something dealers stock in quantity. I then have to ship them to Don in Florida to autograph with a gold marker and then he ships them back to me from Florida.
Many of you may not realize that we have a connection with Don Garlits. In the Mopar world, notably the Hemi world, he is and has been one of the biggest names associated with the Hemi for well over 50 years. Dodge thinks a lot of Don Garlits as they made sure he got to buy at a special deal the very first 001 Drag Pak Challengers in 2009. That first year they only made 50. Back in 2009 Don had given up top fuel racing earlier so he was looking at still racing, but at a slightly slower pace. At the time in 2009 Don was 77 years young. A few years later Don purchased another Drag Pak Challenger. The second one is black, the 2009 is a white one. He is now 88 years young! In quick review over his lifetime of racing he has 17 World Championships and 144 National Event wins during his amazing career.
My connection to Don started years earlier than 2009. Among my many purchases of Hurst items years earlier I found a group of pictures showing Don and his dragster at the Hurst plant. I contacted Don and was surprised he took to my phone call. I told him I would mail him the photos I found as a gift. He later would call and thank me.
In the late summer of 2009 I was down at Dons Museum in Ocala, Florida. If you ever get a chance to go I highly recommend it. It is a really impressive place. Don lives right there on the grounds. The weekend I was there was the same weekend he held his annual Mopar event. He had just gotten the 001 Challenger Drag Pak car about a week earlier.
Paul Castle drove down from Chicago and met me at the event. I bought a lot of autographed items from Don. I had him autograph over 300 pistons and 300 connecting rods from his top fuel dragsters. I kept him busy signing various items. I filled my Tahoe! It was quite funny actually being at a huge car show event where nobody knew me or Paul Castle. Some of the Mopar owners came up to me and wondered why I was buying all these items? They didn’t seem to realize the value of having Don autograph various parts. I was just grateful I had my checkbook with me!
I sold all the autographed pistons and rods over a period of several years. I even have 3 of the original steel wheels that came on Drag Pak 001 Dodge. Paul bought the other one.
Back then I had Don autograph another part that came on the Dodge Challengers. I had him do maybe 2 dozen or so. They sold quickly. Time passed and I never gave it much thought about this clever item until recently.
During my research I found out the plastic strut cap is the same for all the 2009-2020 Challengers, 2005 through 2020 Chargers, and Chrysler 300 cars. The strut cap is the same for either side. I contacted Don to see if I could work him a deal. He agreed. I sent a batch to Don the other week with a gold marker. I am the only company he is signing the Mopar strut caps for. If you are at a car show and he is there he will for a price autograph one for the car owner. We have a deal where he only autographs them in bulk for our company.
There is no question that his autograph adds value to any Hemi model. We will also include a small certificate with each one that verifies it was indeed autographed by Don Garlits. As an inner circle member we will give you a special price if you purchase it no later than Wednesday September 30th 2020.
We will have it pictured in next week's inner circle along with a picture of the certificate showing him signing them. The part number is #7920. The special sale price is $39.95 plus $12 shipping. The price includes a certificate of proof. This is a good deal as the retail price from Dodge just for the strut cap is $18. The retail price after September 30th 2020 will be $49.95 plus shipping. You save $10 by placing your order prior to September 30th 2020. You must call the office 215-766-1611 to order this as it is not on our website yet.
NOTE; If you are one of the fortunate ones to own a Hellcat please inform Christina when you call. Reason is the Hellcat only has a strut cap on the drivers side. The passenger side has an overflow bottle where the strut cap would be normally. Even though the caps are interchangeable in order for Don signature to face forward I will have him sign future ones so his signature faces forward installed on the drivers side. This will make one version work on all the Hemi models including the Hellcat and his autograph would face forward. This first batch has to be installed on the passenger side in order for his autograph to face forward. Future strut caps Don signs this will be corrected so one version will fit every Hemi powered car including the Hellcat and face forward.
The second batch will be about 2 weeks later due to delays in shipments from Dodge. We are ordering more every 4-5 days to keep a constant flow going. I plan to approach various Dodge dealers as it makes for a nice enticement especially for those that have the Hellcat models sitting for sale. I also plan to approach performance companies that see the benefit of making it a bonus item with some of their products.
There is no question this will be a limited item. I plan to keep track how many I send Don to autograph. It’s nice the same strut cap fits either side so it would be visible under the hood in every case.
Keep in mind my local dealership does not stock this part so it has to come out of Michigan. Then once I get a shipment from the dealership I have to ship down to Don in Florida for him to autograph and send back to me. Our game plan is to have a constant flow of them without overwhelming Don at one time.
Think of the lucky Turbo Regal owners that had their SPID label signed personally by Molly at the two events he attended for us. Time will surely tell the impact that autograph has as time goes by. We made it so it is next to impossible to duplicate since the SPID label has the VIN to that particular car.
Even if you don’t own a Hemi car you may want one of these autographed strut caps with a certificate of proof. .

MORE GOOD NEWS -
We are bringing back the Buick Motorsport Fender Gripper fender cover. We had a huge demand for the one we sold last week in the Rare Parts section. Watch for updates possibly as early as next week as we have several dozen on order.
Also, since we had an original set of the unique Turbo Trans Am wires we gave the specs to the source that makes our Turbo Regal plug wires. The Turbo Trans Am wires are a bit different in lengths and the spark plug boot is a different length as well. The cost factor is too high to imprint them and number each of the six wires for such a small market. I can come close in the color of the wire and boot. Fitment will be exact. If you own or know someone who owns a Turbo Trans Am email me [email protected] Pricing I expect will be similar to the Turbo Regal plug wires. They have been great sellers for us for many years now. This company we use makes wires for several Nascar teams.
We can make special wires and they can put different color sleeves over the wires. We can do small limited runs.
MEMORIES FROM MY PAST -
When I test drove the 7,700 mile Grand National the other week it reminded me of the Turbo Regals that I bought back in the day. Over 325 of the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals plus 11 real GNXs. I never in my wildest dreams did I think I would reach those lofty totals. I figured if I did 100 it would be an amazing accomplishment. Had I known I would do over 300 I would certainly have stuck my business card somewhere inside the glove box so years later owners could discover if they owned one of my cars. I will try and post a story each week on some of my adventures getting these cars back to my location.
Here is one such story. I had a customer call me who was having health issues. He lived in an apartment complex that had a separate building of garages. The apartment complex as I recall was just two stories. This was one of the early Grand Nationals I bought. It was up in the New England area. Remember this was before the internet, GPS etc. I hated going up to New England for cars.
I got to this seller's apartment. Due to health issues he simply gives me the car keys and tells me which garage the car is in. I noticed in his one room he had it decorated with all the various Turbo Regal posters that were available back in the day. He asked me if I wanted the posters. I told him no, he could keep them. I could tell parting with his Grand National was a very tough decision for him.
As I was leaving he said “can you grant me one last request?” I said yes, no problem. He said “could you drive by my front window so I could see my Grand National one last time?” As you can imagine it was an easy request to grant. I loaded up his Grand National on my trailer and slowly drove it around the front of his apartment building. I could see him up at the window.
I still remember that instance all these years later. Needless to say that was the saddest story related to one of my purchases. I had a few others that are similar where owners due to health issues had to part with their pride and joy. Not every sale by the seller is to upgrade for something quicker. Some part with their cars due to declining health issues.
MORE MINOR TIPS THAT DISTINGUISH AN ORIGINAL 1986-1987 TURBO REGAL -
Again using this 98% original 1987 Grand National with 7,700 miles as an example we show more parts so you can see some of the minor details on an original 1987 Grand National.
PHOTO 3 - The top left shows the front side of the muffler with the words FIXTURE CHECKED.
I have no idea if this wording appeared on every muffler or not. My guess is it did not as I can’t recall ever seeing it on the cars I owned. The top right shows one of the rear springs with the paper code still visible. Each spring has a code that would appear on the SPID label. The same can be seen in the bottom left photo. This paper code is still attached to the front sway bar. The bottom right photo shows the BM code on the neck of the gas tank. If you need to replace the gas tank you should try and save this decal! These make up some of the codes on the SPID label that many owners can’t decode. Remember the SPID label just did not list options or features but other critical components related specifically to the Turbo Regals.
PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows the decal on the fuel pump harness. We sell this in reproduction. The top right photo you can barely see the unique bracket that surrounds the upper radiator hose and secures it to a mounting point on the alternator bracket. The bottom left photo shows a close up of the drivers side of the transmission. It shows the last 9 digits of the VIN number of the car. The bottom right photo shows the license plate bracket. The top upper left mounting point has a small plastic grab lever so you can pull the license plate bracket down. I have seldom seen this on any cars. Being plastic they can easily break over time. My guess is not every car got this small feature.
Ask anyone that works on these cars and I am sure they will tell you that there are various differences even in untouched original cars. Buick quality was not the greatest during those years. Again I am not finding fault merely stating that you could line up 10 original untouched cars and few experts, of which I would probably be part of that group could find minor differences between them. It’s just like the fact that some from day one were quicker than others. Various body panel fitments are one prime example. The trunk lid and the rear spoiler. The decal for the jacking directions placement seemed to be left up to wherever the assembly worker wanted to install it.
I know when Pete the original window rattle guy worked on these he even trash in the doors and in one case a soda can. (Probably solved a rattle problem for that owner at no extra charge!)
A WORD ABOUT THE SERIAL NUMBER FOR THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION -
When I was buying these cars I never really checked the stamping on the block or the transmission housing. I can only recall checking the VIN once and that was on a GNX that just did not appear correct to me. Obviously in today’s marketplace with values skyrocketing especially on a GNX, you want to check the VIN number. You may not be concerned, but there is a good chance the next owner will be concerned that the transmission and engine number matches the VIN number of the car.

WORKING ON A FEW IDEAS UPDATE -
I just got a price on the one product. This is a product we used to sell in the early 1990s. We plan to bring it back. It fits virtually every 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. I currently have this one product getting made by a local company. We expect to have this part in about 3-4 weeks time.

Good news - We now accept Classified Ads in our weekly Inner Circle emails. Over the years several customers have asked about placing an ad in our weekly Inner Circle.
Here are the options and the costs.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –
1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
SCANMASTER STEERING COLUMN BRACKET
Here is a simple way to mount the Scanmaster, part #6783, so it is in your direct sight.
The bracket attaches by velcro, which comes with it.
We used to sell a similar steering column bracket years ago until our source stopped making them.
We now have a new supplier who makes it in a high-quality acrylic plastic. It is then painted in the Turbo Regal grey, so it will match most Turbo Regal steering columns.
An excellent way to mount a Scanmaster.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
REPRODUCTION VACUUM BRAKE PEDAL
We now offer this reproduction vacuum brake pedal. The difference between the vacuum brake pedal and a Turbo Regal pedal is the location of the pin that the rod goes to that comes through the firewall. The vacuum brake pedal makes the installation easier. Without the vacuum brake pedal, you would need to weld a new pin in a different location on the original Turbo Regal brake pedal.
Finding a good used vacuum brake pedal has become more difficult as time passes. Because many Turbo Regal owners are converting to vacuum brakes, the demand has been heavy.
This reproduction pedal has solved that issue of using a 30-plus-year-old rusted vacuum brake pedal.
NOTE - You need to re-use the original bolt and bushings to secure the pedal to the bracket under the dash. The pedal is bare metal and will require painting.

Kit consists of the 4 lines as pictured.
These are manufactured in the USA using the best materials.

The same source that makes our translator bracket has made this one-piece aluminum 1/8" gauge aluminum bracket for us.
It is compatible with #7607 Dual Fan Conversion Kit and Custom-made Plug-and-Play Harness and #7608 Dual Fan Only we sell.
This bracket requires no holes to be drilled in the core support or the dual fan kit.
The end result is the dual fan setup will sit flush against the radiator. The bracket secures the dual fan at the bottom of the core support. It is barely visible.
Each bracket comes with detailed directions. You do have to trim all 4 mounting tabs on the dual fan unit.

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING –
We need good used 1984-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheel cores. You must email me a photo first. We issue a $100 letter-of-credit for each steering wheel.
