SOMETIMES REPRODUCTIONS ARE SUPERIOR TO GM ORIGINALS -
Sometimes a reproduction part is stronger or better than the original GM part.
The latest version of the front and real filler panels is one such example. Our part numbers are #7438 for the fronts, #7439 for the rears or #7440 for both front and rears, which saves you a few bucks. It stands to reason that the technology has vastly improved since the mid 1980s. I have seen a brand new in the GM box front filler panel crumble when it was removed from the box.
Spoolfools unique one-piece rear filler panel is another example. Here is an excellent example of what GM should have done in the first place to give the car a smoother look in the back end. Chevrolet did it with the Monte Carlo SS models. It’s just a shame Buick didn’t.
Another example is the reproduction horn ring, part #1518, that we have sold for well over a dozen years now. Again this solved a problem with the factory GM one, which over a period of time warps in the heat and cracks. Not helping the situation was the fact that only two screws secured it to the steering wheel. Granted, NOS plastic GM ones in the box may still fetch $200 to $300, but more buyers will pay $50 for the billet machined horn ring that they only have to buy once. Buying the billet one eliminates the chances of you over tightening the plastic one and having it crack!
By the way here is a helpful hint. If the base collar under the steering wheel is lose, you need to pull the steering wheel off your car and retighten the 3 little screws that secure the base collar to the back of the steering wheel.
One popular item that we have sold for over ten years is the upgraded 1986-1987 Mass Air Duct, part #7054. Most mass air duct hoses get ruined because it comes in contact with the one nut and stud that secures the alternator in place. This was not an easy product to locate because if had to be so flexible. This is a product that we sell is almost $20 cheaper than the factory GM mass air duct from other sources. Not only is it more reasonably priced, it is also thicker so the interior wire helix is not ready to pop thru the housing. The hose is an unusual diameter and not something you can pick up at your local hardware store or Lowes or Home Depot. It is a thermoplastic rubber reinforced hose with a wire helix. It has good abrasion and chemical resistance. It can handle minus 60 deg F and as high as 275 deg F continuously. This hose will easily outlast the GM original mass air duct. They are also made in the USA and our supplier is actually a long-time Turbo Regal customer.
Although there will always be a market for original GM parts, sometimes the reproduction or aftermarket has the same basic part but is superior and cost less!

STONER UPHOLSTERY AND CARPET CLEANER -
Perhaps you have a favorite upholstery and carpet cleaner. Over the last few months I have tested about six different well-known brands found in most auto stores. I have had to do this because of the various armrests I am getting in junkyards to sell on ebay. These armrests all have built up crud and dirt on them.
The cleaner I like the best is Stoner Upholstery & Carpet Cleaner. Stoner also makes other automotive cleaners. There are at least five major chain auto stores in our area, yet I have only found this product in one of them. It’s great on stains.
PHOTO 2 - Here is a photo of the actual 18-ounce spray can. It foams up and dries completely. The product has a pleasant fragrance. I use it all the time.

3-IN-1 FACTORY CLIP -
One of the unusual plastic clips Buick used under the hood of the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals secures the two metal transmission lines to one of the oil coolant lines. In many cases, due to vibration this clip may have slipped off the two metal transmission lines and may just be on the one oil coolant lines. Or, if you ever had you engine removed and rebuilt, there is a good chance this unique clip never made it back on your car.
PHOTO 4 - The photo to the left shows one of these 3-IN-1 clips. The photo on the right shows it (highlighted with a red arrow) on our personal Turbo-T. If you need one, see the Parts Listing at the end of this Inner Circle. I doubt this unusual clip is still available from GM. I have never seen it used in another application.
WEST COAST SLOW DOWN AND DOCK STRIKE -
As you have probably heard on the news, there is a slowdown and dock strike on the west coast. This situation has tied up a huge number of ships from unloading at the western docks.
Unfortunately, this is one reason some of the parts we normally get in a timely matter from our suppliers have been delayed. Reportedly it is costing $2 million a day!

1986-1988 G-BODY ALL MODELS - THIRD BRAKE LIGHT LED PANEL -
Our first order of these is in route to us. All our orders will be filled at the end of this week. We already have our next order placed.
OLD CARS REPORT PRICE GUIDE -
Since last week’s Turbo Regal Inner Circle I have found my 2015 Collector Car Price Guide. It contains 20,000 more prices over the 2012 issue. The book shows value in 6 categories of condition.
Number 1 stands for show quality, whether restored or original showroom condition. At the other end of the spectrum, number 6 means it’s basically a parts car.
Most cars in original or restored condition would qualify for #2. The definition for a #2 car is a well-restored or a combination of superior restoration or an excellent original car. I think our 1987 Turbo T would fall in this category. It has all original paint and the car has been restored as needed.
So, I looked at the prices in the 2012 Collector Car Price Guide and compared it to the 2015 Collector Car Price Guide. To my surprise, all the values I checked were exactly the same. For the 1986 Regal T-Type it showed $12,950. For the 1986 Grand National it showed $21,700. For the 1987 Turbo-T it showed $16,800, and for the 1987 Turbo Limited it showed $18,200. For the 1987 Grand National it showed $23,450. For the GNX it showed $64,750.
The book also lists the very rare 1986 LeSabre. In both the 2012 and 2015 books, it shows the 1986 LeSabre Grand National at $13,300.
I decided to also check both books to see if the 1987 Monte Carlo SS and the 1987 Corvette hatchback showed the same values in both books. In both cases both books reflected the same values. The 1987 Monte Carlo SS shows a $8,750 value and the 1987 Corvette hatchback shows a $19,600 value.
In my opinion, I think the price shown for the 1987 Corvette is on the high side.
Even the lowly Yugo values did not change from 2012 to 2015. In case you’re wondering, the lowly Yugo in number #2 condition comes in at a mere $2,300 for the 1987 model.
I don’t think the Collector Car Price Guide reflects the true values, since it shows no increase for the Turbo Regals in three years. Granted, not every vehicle would show gains in a three-year time span. However, you would think the values would increase even by a small margin for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals - especially the Grand National. I would even go so far to say that the Monte Carlo SS, 1986-1988 vintage would fetch at least ten grand or more in a number #2 condition.
One other G- body car I have sold was a1987 Olds Cutlass 442 hardtop back in 2000. The 442 had just 12,000 miles on it and was garage kept. I sold it for $10,500 in the year 2000. (I think my buyer still owns the car today).
In looking in the 2012 Collector Car Price Guide, that 1987 Olds 442 in #2 condition is listed at $7,210. In the 2015 Collector Car Price Guide the value of the same Olds 442 in #2 condition has jumped to $12,110. It would appear that in 2000 I paid way over what it was worth based on the 2012 Collector Car Price Guide.
Obviously a lot of other factors come into play when figuring out the value of any car. There is one common factor that crosses over to any car that assures you that the value will increase and it doesn’t matter what car brand it is. That one single factor is horsepower. Every muscle car you can name is more valuable today and continues to grow in value as the years go on.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -
CASPERS ELECTRONICS REPRODUCTION ENGINE HARNESS -
As you read this, we have 3 of the Caspers Electronic Reproduction Engine Harnesses in route to us. Caspers only makes these a few times a year at most. If you need one, it’s best not to put it off. Caspers has made several improvements over the original version. Our complete information on this high-quality reproduction 1986-1987 Turbo Regal engine harness is listed below.
1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction ENGINE HARNESS
Caspers Electronics is a leader in manufacturing electronics, and has made factory OEM harnesses for GM.
They have made a small run of the factory 1986-1987 Turbo Regal Reproduction Engine Harness.
Each harness is electronically tested and has a 60-day Warranty. It is the OEM design with improvements made to certain "too short" connectors and improved engine grounds. They use only original Packard connectors and cross-linked wiring.
The harness is an exact replacement for the factory harness.
Another great under-the-hood restoration item.

POWER STEERING RETURN HOSE
Because of the age of these cars, it’s probably a good idea to replace the original power steering return hose.
This hose is specific for power steering fluid. Hose is approximately 18" long, about 1" longer than you need.

1986-1988 G-Body All Models (including Buick Turbo Regal) -
THIRD BRAKE LIGHT LED PANEL
Many cars produced today have the LED format for their various lights.
LED lighting offers several benefits. Besides projecting a brighter and wider light, LEDs draw a lot less amperage and hardly generates any heat compared to the glass-style bulbs.
The stock bulb in the third brake light is a #1156 bulb. If that bulb were to stay on for two minutes, it would reach over 200 degrees. This can burn the socket housing and, in severe cases, distort the top of the brake light housing. In contrast, the LED panel would only reach 130 degrees after TWO HOURS.
We now offer a LED panel for the original third brake light used in all the 1986-1988 G-Body cars. Each panel is custom built and assembled in the U.S.A. and has a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
This custom-made panel contains three rows of fifteen each for a total of 45 of the SuperFlux LEDs. The SuperFlux LEDs are a brighter LED over some of the other available LEDs. Each panel is coated on the back to seal and protect the circuits from any moisture or unintended shorts by tools or careless installation. Each panel is then tested before delivery. Each LED panel has integrated voltage regulating circuitry built into the base of the socket for space saving. This limits the amount of voltage going to the LED panel. This helps insure that the LED panel will last anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 hours.
The LED panel is powered up through the factory socket. No wires get cut and no modifications are needed to the third brake light housing in your car.
LED Panel comes with easy-to-follow directions.
An excellent upgrade to improve the lighting in the third brake light.

AFTERMARKET COIL PACK, GASKET & SCREWS
This brand new coil pack is one of the few in the aftermarket that closely resembles the original coil pack that came on these cars in 1986 and 1987. This aftermarket coil pack is about 1/4" inch taller than the original. We include 6 new longer screws and a gasket with each kit.
Many of the aftermarket coil packs do not have the 3 formed blocks, but rather one solid top piece. This one has 3 formed blocks, similar to the original coil pack.
According to our Buick mechanic, if your car suffers any type of engine miss for one hour or more, it can permanently damage the coil pack. This could cause lower resistance in the amount of spark to the plugs. Coil packs suffer from corrosion on the terminals, which can cause problems as well.
We buy these coil packs and ignition modules (Part #7639) from the same manufacturer.
We had Richard Clark test several of these for us, and he highly recommends this unit.
Each coil pack comes with all new hardware (as shown) and a new reproduction gasket. It has a One-year Warranty.
This is another item you should keep on hand.
Another great engine restoration item.

REPRODUCTION COIL PACK GASKET
We stock a reproduction coil pack gasket.
If you replace either the coil pack or the coil module, the original gasket will probably not be any good.
If you buy any of the various coil modules, you will find some do not come with a new gasket.
This reproduction coil pack gasket is exact and has the adhesive on the bottom, like the original gasket.
Another great engine restoration item.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
AFTERMARKET IGNITION MODULE
We stock the ignition module, which is subject to failure on your Turbo Regal.
The ignition module bolts under the coil pack (see our Part #7637.)
This brand new module comes from the same manufacturer/supplier that we buy the coil packs. It also has a One-year Warranty.
Richard Clark has tested several of these for us and says these work perfectly in our cars. He also said, in many cases, the Casper’s tester for the ignition module will not work because the Casper's tester generates only a crank signal. This ignition module requires a crank and cam sensor signal to operate, therefore Casper’s tester will not work. This is also true with many of the aftermarket ignition modules.
The first photo shows the bottom of this ignition module, and second photo shows the top.
Another great engine restoration item.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.
IN CLOSING -
We should have the date for our Spring Open House in next week’s Inner Circle.
Winter weather seems to have a strong grip in the northeastern part of the country. It appears Boston may break several records for snowfall in a short time span.
Remember, we urgently need 1986-1987 Turbo Regal turbo cores for $100 Letter of Credit, and original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheel cores for a $75 Letter of Credit. This helps us help others restore their cars.
