Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 01-27-2016 -
THE HOT TOPIC THIS WEEK -
The hot topic this week would be better worded as the cold topic this week and the record-breaking snow fall that hit most of the east coast over the weekend. One can only imagine how many men suffered heart attacks shoveling 24-to-36 inches of snow, and even higher with the drifts from the high winds.
We live in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania, which was predicted to get between 6 and 12 inches. The end result was 31.6 inches. What I like to know is the total weight of the snow that I shoveled. My son’s Bobcat blew a hydraulic line, so we ended up making paths with snow shovels for our vehicles. Fortunately, Darrell did have a kind friend who came late Sunday night to his and our driveways.
PHOTO 1 - Here are 4 photos of our property taken this past Saturday and Sunday after the record-breaking snowfall. The top left shows the open kitchen door going out to the patio that night. The top right shows the patio the Sunday morning. The lower left photo shows my friend’s Buick Regal GS that I am storing for him until he gets back on his feet. Visible next to it is our Explorer, which now has a weak transmission and needs to be replaced. Our other vehicles, including our Turbo T, along with our cat family enjoy the warmth of our pole building.
GOOD SNOWSTORM FOR BUILDING SNOW PROJECTS - The “SnowMaro” -
My son and his family have proved their creativity once again. Most people build a snowman, but this time they built an actual life-size Camaro that replicates Devyn’s car.
From the street, the SnowMaro looks real! It’s really amazing.
By the way, they did this using only photographs and memory for layout. Her car wasn’t even at their house this weekend for comparison.
PHOTO 2 - We show the first step of planning in the top left photo. The top right photo shows her actual car on top and a similar view of the snow Camaro. He used black spray paint for the details and stripes. The lower right photos shows it lit up at night with LED blue tea candles. This replicates the blue lights Darrell installed on her real car… it’s a unique undercarriage lighting system that glows various colors at the touch of her phone.
THE OLD CAR NUT BOOK -
For Christmas my wife got me the “The Old Car Nut Book” 3-volume set.
I love to read but seldom have the patience to read an entire book. These books contain short car stories contributed by regular car nuts.
Although I just started to read the first volume, one of the stories I read was from a person that actually went to school with George Lucas. George Lucas directed what many believe is one of the best car movies ever made - “American Graffiti” in the early 1970s. The story went on to say that the writer did witness that one of the guys from his school did indeed crawl under a cop car and chained the axle of the cop car to a pole. It happened just like it did in the movie. I also think that movie featured many actors and actresses that went on to huge roles after that movie.
This book series is a great read, especially to take on a trip as each story is only a few pages in length. Over the years I have done something similar called “Kirban’s Side of the Road.”
PHOTO 3 - Our photo shows the three books in this series. There are plans to publish more in this series, according to what I have read in the one book. For more information, go to www.OldCarNutBook.com or call 206-354-8347. If you have a great story they may even consider it. Created and edited by David Dickinson. My wife bought these on Amazon.
MORE FORM MY ARCHIVES -
Last week we started to cover the 1986 Buick Press Kit and the various models for 1986. By far the one model that perks our readers’ interest was the new 1986 T-Type Regals and the Grand National models.
This was the first year for the new intercooled V-6 with Sequential-port Fuel Injection (SFI). It was rated at 235hp at 4400 rpm and 330 lb. ft. of torque at just 2800 rpm. The intercooling process resulted in increase engine output, adding over 15% more power to the turbo engine.
We all know that this improvement is what captured the hearts of many a buyer, which would continue into the 1987 model year.
PHOTO 4 - Shows both sides of the 1986 Buick Regal T-Type Performance Perspective flyer that came in the 1986 Buick Press Kit. It gives all the information on the 1986 Buick Regal T-Type. It’s a shame this model did not garner much sales with production at just 2,384 built. It was not until the following year that potential performance buyers had became aware of the potential of these Turbo Regals when compared to the highly-popular Monte Carlo SS models.
GM LICENSED REPRODUCTION VIN DATA DECALS FOR DOOR JAMBS continued -
We are still waiting to work out the exact details with ECS Automotive Concepts on how they will be handling our orders for our Buick retail customers. I also need to work out how they want to handle the orders we get from the wholesalers that have expressed an interest in this program.
Since we are the first mail-order company they have agreed to work with for the GM segment, there is a good amount of interest, especially with some of the large Corvette mail-order companies.
In the meantime, if you are interested in buying new door jamb VIN data decals, take a photo of your existing decal so you have a record as to their positions.
Unlike the early door jamb data decals, our cars have 2. One has the date of manufacture with the 17 digit VIN number and weight figures for your car. The other one has the tire loading information and even states the size of the spare tire. The spare tire in our cars was different than a regular Regal, which can prove difficult to find today, if you are missing the correct size spare.
While it’s probably true many of us, including myself, never really thought much about these data decals. As time goes on and values increase, these are two critical decals that collectors know to look for when they are checking out a car to purchase. Unreadable or missing data decals will raise a red flag, just like if your car lacks the SPI trunk ID label.
I know from experience having bought and sold over 320 Turbo Regals, one of the very first questions I always asked was, “Is the SPI trunk ID label intact on the trunk lid?” In one case I recall the owner had replaced his original trunk lid due to rust and had saved the original lid. When I bought his car I also made sure I got his original trunk lid as the label was still attached to it.
Each GM door decal has a specific GM part number. In each case, the part number is 8 digits followed by either the letter A or B. The number for the 1984 is 14065978A and B. The 1985-1986 is 14085204A and B. The 1987 is 10080812A and B. There is a possibility that some of the 1987 cars may have had the 1985-1986 style door data VIN decals. This is why it’s critical to indicate what the GM part number is for your door data VIN decals. I wanted to repeat these critical GM part numbers so you can double check if they agree with the ones on your Turbo Regal.
OUR LATEST NEW PRODUCT -
Spoolfool has just made a unique display board for showing your pride and joy at car shows, as an exclusive item for us.
I had seen this idea at a Buick Magna event in Maryland last fall. Dave and Brenda Romasko had taken a damaged original steel turbo hood and cut out the hood scoop section, leaving a small area around it to use as a car show display board for their Grand National.
We had Spoolfool duplicate the hood scoop section making it in fiberglass so it weighs under 4 pounds. It measures 25-3/4 inches by 30-3/4 inches. It is done in the same high-quality glossy black fiberglass as his Spoolfool fillers that we sell.
You can have your information and photos put on it by a local sign shop. You could fabricate your own frame around it, simply use by itself, or put it on a folding display easel. It makes a nice display for your garage.
Since the hood scoop is actual size, another nice touch is to purchase a set of the reproduction SFI hood emblems and position them in the factory spot.
Spoolfool has made this exclusively for our company. We currently have a few in stock for immediate delivery. See the New Parts section for more info and the link to the photos.

In this category, we will run the descriptions for two-to-three weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -
1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
TURBO REGAL CAR SHOW DISPLAY BOARD
FEATURING AN ACTUAL SIZE FIBERGLASS HOOD SCOOP
Here is a clever idea, if you show your pride and joy or want a unique display in your office or garage.
I can't take full credit for this idea. I was at a show and saw our customers, Dave and Brenda Romasko’s unique display sign (shown in our photo.) They actually cut a steel Turbo Regal hood that was damaged to create his display sign with his car.
Basing the piece on a exact replica of the hood scoop from a Turbo Regal is a novel approach to make your own unique sign. It’s ideal to hang in your garage as a display.
The piece measures 25-3/4" wide and 30-3/4" tall, weighs less than 4 pounds, and the quality is excellent.
If it ever gets scratched, you can compound it out. The piece can be painted to match the color of your car.
This is made exclusively for us by Spoolfool, the company that makes the high-quality one-piece rear filler panel and the front filler panels we sell.
It is made in glossy-black gelcoat fiberglass, so it’s lightweight. Although it looks great as it is, you can have a sign company lay out any information and pictures of your car and position it on this display.
We suggest you also purchase the sfi emblems, part #6556, to highlight the original scoop area. The emblems make the hood scoop look complete.
You could fabricate a frame to hold it, like the Romasko’s sign. You can purchase a folding display easel (Staples or Amazon) to stand it up next to your car or to display it on a shelf. You could fabricate something on the back to hang it on the wall.
NOTE - You may also be interested in this related part - #6556 Reproduction “3.8 SFI TURBO” Hood Emblems (2).
NOTE - Because the finish is so shiny, it is very difficult to photograph, but the quality is excellent. The piece is actually a rectangle. We had to photograph it at an angle to be able to see the shape of the scoop. Our photos show the display board with and without the sfi emblems, part #6556 (which must be purchased separately,) and the Romasko’s car show display.
An excellent custom touch to enhance your car show display, office or garage.

STOCK REPLACEMENT REAR END COVERS -
POWDER-COATED GLOSSY BLACK OR CHROME-PLATED - AND HARDWARE (10) SET
These stock replacement metal rear end covers come complete with a drain plug, new bolts and gasket. Rear end covers closely resemble the stock rear end cover. We offer two finishes - powder-coated glossy black and chrome-plated. The hardware is coated to help prevent rust.
Either cover will fit the stock 8.5 rear end (10-bolt) found on all original 1984-1987 Turbo Regals. The powder-coated glossy black cover is an excellent choice to retain a stock appearance.
It measures about 1-1/2″ deep. This will clear the factory crossflow muffler.
NOTE - Because of the shiny finishes, the covers are difficult to photograph.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal with the Factory Alarm Option -
DOOR LOCKS (2) with Black Bezels
If your car is equipped with the factory GM alarm system, these are the correct door locks and hardware for that factory option.
It has the proper tang on the back end, so you can hook up the factory alarm sensor to the end.
These locks have the black bezels, which would be correct for the Grand Nationals, T-Types and Turbo-Ts with the WO2 black-out package.
If you do not have the factory GM alarm system you need to order part #7651 OE GM Doors (2) and Trunk (1) Cylinders with BLACK Bezels with 2 Pre-cut Keys Set or #7652 OE GM Doors (2) and Trunk (1) Cylinders with BRIGHT Bezels with 2 Pre-cut Keys Set.

1978-1987 GM Cars and Trucks (Including Buick Regal) -
ORIGINAL GM USED LIGHTED REARVIEW MIRROR WITH LED LIGHTS
This used original GM lighted rearview mirror fits all GM cars and trucks from the late 1970s through the early 1990s.
Mirror looks almost like the original mirror found in a 1984-1987 Turbo Regal.
Although the mirror is used, each one is cleaned and tested, then fitted with 2 new LED bulbs (a $20 value.) The original tube style bulbs are also included.
The LEDs lights shine a whiter brighter light, do not draw as many amps, and do not get hot like original bulbs.
Ideal if you have a T-Tops car.
It is easy to install with a simple 2-wire hook up - 1 wire is ground and the other wire is for power.
Supplies may be limited. GM made about six different styles of lighted rearview mirrors, so sometimes we are limited as to how many we can locate that match the original stock mirror style.
NOTE - You may also be interested in this related part - #7707 Used Factory Original Rearview Mirror.
An excellent replacement item for any interior restoration.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -
We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

Also, any cars that our customers have for sale will be featured here and you can see their car with photos on our website. In this category, we will run the descriptions for two-to-three weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. Any new vehicles that we add will appear first, so the oldest listing would be at the end of this section.
If any of these vehicles perk your interest, email me personally - [email protected] - for more information and photos.
