1984-1987 REGAL OWNER MANUAL HOLDERS -
Buick never provided a special cloth or vinyl Owner’s Manual holder for the glove box for our cars. You either got a clear plastic bag or the selling dealership put all the booklets in an imprinted holder.
It was at some later point, probably around 1990, that Buick went to a vinyl Owner’s Manual holder for the glove box booklets. I think you had to own a Cadillac or a Corvette back then to get a special Owner’s Manual holder from GM. The blue Buick vinyl manual holders seemed to be the most widely used holder from Buick that I have found in the various junkyards. The black Buick vinyl manual holders seemed to have been used in the upscale Buick sedans and the grey Buick vinyl manual holders in the top-of-the-line Buick sedans, based on my findings. All three versions have the Buick logo embossed on the front. The grey vinyl manual holder is the rarest holder I have found and the black vinyl manual holder is the second rarest that I have come across. This information is based on my findings in junkyards.
PHOTO 1 - We show all three Buick vinyl manual holders alongside a typical dealer cardboard folder that Buick dealers would have used back during the 1990s. We also show a copy of the 1986 GM Production Option booklets. See the Rare Parts section as we have several of the rare grey vinyl manual holders and black Buick vinyl manual holders for sale, which includes a copy of the 1986 GM Production Option booklet. Again, these Buick vinyl manual holders came out of Buick models from the 1990s to early 2005. We also have a large quantity of the blue Buick vinyl manual holders for sale as well.
UNUSUAL FIRST TIME FIND FOR US -
Over the years of going to various junkyards I have been collecting various GM Window Stickers that I have found in the glove boxes of GM cars. As many of you probably realize, the GM Window Stickers have gotten a lot more colorful than the ones they made for our Turbo Regals. I recently discovered something very interesting that I have never seen before. Besides the original Window Stickers, I also found in the same glove box of a 2000 LeSabre what is called a “Manifest” print out from Buick.
PHOTO 2 - The photo on the left shows this original 2000 Buick Window Sticker for a LeSabre. The photo on the right shows this matching very informative Manifest print out. In the top right corner of this Manifest, it even shows the actual production date and even the military time that this car was being built. The first five columns list the Broadcast codes and the last column and half list the options codes for the LeSabre. I know many of you probably have discovered the cushion or door Broadcast Sheet in your Turbo Regal, which gives part of the information on your car.
I have no idea when GM started to do these Manifest print outs and how a customer would be able to obtain one for their car? Ironically on this Window Stickers it shows the car was originally sold at O’Neil Buick-GMC in Warminster, PA. This is the same dealership that I ran all the Turbo Regals through that I bought and sold years ago! It’s a small world.
MY TRIP TO A1 CARDONE HEADQUARTERS -
If you recall, we mentioned earlier in December that we were getting a personal tour of A1 Cardone’s headquarters facility in Philadelphia. The buildings are massive - over 1.2 million square feet of space between the two buildings. I can’t recall ever being in a building this huge before. The amount of just brake caliper cores and the process they go through was amazing. This was just one product line of many. They have powder coating machines that are big enough that you could walk into them!
One of the parts they rebuild is refreshing the huge batteries for electric cars. These batteries have 26 cells in them and can weigh 75 pounds each! Not sure how many buyers of used electric power cars have given much thought as to what is involved to replace one of these batteries. It’s not as simple as dropping a 12-volt battery in your car or truck under the hood!
I finally got to meet the actual person that has personally rebuilt every powermaster brake unit for our company over the last 8 years. Prior to this, they were rebuilt for us in their Texas facility. I was able to convince them to move the operation back to Philadelphia, based on the volume of business we do with them. They only do this for us, as they have no powermaster cores of their own. I am confident nobody in the country has rebuilt more powermaster units than he has in that time span, based on the amount we have sold. (We sell several almost every week). He is from Albania and has no idea what kind of car they go in. I gave him some of my DVDs and books so he could see the cars they go in.
He has several test equipment pieces that are well over 30-years-old designed specifically to test powermaster brake units. Each powermaster unit takes over 2 hours to totally rebuild it from top to bottom.
It was a real pleasure to finally meet him and see all my cores in one area. Each powermaster unit gets a new brake switch and a new reproduction brake bowl as part of the process.
PHOTO 3 - Shows myself on the left, Stephan Ignatovets in the middle (he rebuilds every powermaster unit), and Steve Tortu on the right who is the Director of Engineering Support. Steve is the person that handles our orders for powermaster units. It was probably about 10 years ago that we convinced A1 Cardone to get the Brake Accumulator Bowl reproduced, which is a critical part of the powermaster brake unit. Since he is the only one with the skill set to rebuild them at A1 Cardone, I just hope Stephan Ignatovets has no plans to retire in the near future!
AUTO ZONE DIECAST CAMARO COLLECTIBLE -
Auto Zone came out with one limited edition collectible 1969 Camaro. The diecast Camaro is a 1:24 scale. The hood, trunk, and doors open. The trunk has a slot in it so you can stash a few coins. Personally, I think it’s a real stretch to state on the box it is a Limited Edition of 50,000. The box says it’s limited to 50,000 and the box I bought has number 41,274 on it. The car itself is not numbered! It seems almost every automotive company goes with a Camaro of some vintage for promotion reasons.
It would be nice if one of these automotive companies would choose a Turbo Regal/Grand National for a promotional diecast car.
I remember working with the Danbury Mint when they did a detailed diecast of the 1965 Pontiac GTO. They used my personal 1964 GTO for the undercarriage and I lined up my buddy Gary Cave in Maryland for the actual car body. He had an award winning 1965 GTO. True story!
PHOTO 4 - We show the box and the actual orange Auto Zone 1969 Camaro. It has a $20 price tag in the store. Personally I think the Briggs and Stratton grey 1969 Camaro we featured a year or so ago is far more detailed and accurate.
MECUM FLORIDA AUCTION CONTEST UPDATE -
There is still a few more days left to enter this triple contest. See all the rules in the next post below. On that topic I figured I would post my thoughts on what I think each of the three contest vehicles would bring. Here are my three guesses:
On the 15,000 mile Grand National hardtop assuming the car is as crisp looking and stock, as the photos I believe this example with no reserve should fetch between $34,000 and $36,000.
On the Morris Mini Minor tow truck judging from the photos it looks like it was built 15-20 years ago so it lacks that crisp fresh new look. It is kind of a wild card in the mix, but my guess is around $16,000 to $18,000 would be my non-educated guess. Being one of a kind may catch some huge interest?
Last but, not least is GNX 547. Since it does have a reserve I think this car may fall short of the reserve price. The car has everything going for it besides looking crisp with less than 100 miles on it. Its history is well proven with documents to back everything up. My guess is this GNX would reach between $186,000
to $190,000.
Soon we will all know what prices these three contest vehicles do. I just realized that there are 3,000 vehicles going through this Mecum Florida auction. The following week on the opposite side of the country another 1,500 vehicles goes through the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. That is a lot of vehicles in a short period of time! Makes you wonder how many of the vehicles have bounced from one auction to another over the last dozen years or so. Also makes you wonder if you eliminated Corvettes and Camaros what would the car number be at those two auctions?
THE CONTEST REMINDER ON THE THREE VEHICLES AT MECUM FLORIDA AUCTION -
There is just a few more days left to enter this contest. This contest involves three vehicles that are going to be at the Mecum Florida auction the week of January 6th through the 15th, 2017. You can go on Mecum’s website and go the specific day to see photos of each of the three vehicles for this contest.
The contest is based on these three vehicles -
A - The 15,000-mile Grand National is listed for Thursday, January 12th Lot T-126.
B - The Morris Mini Minor Tow Truck is listed for Friday, January 13th Lot F-132.
C - The GNX 547 is also listed on Friday, January 13th Lot F-155.
Two of the vehicles have no reserve price. The GNX 547, Lot F-155,is the only one that does have a reserve.
Your guess must be the closest UNDER the posted selling price.
If the GNX 547 does not reach the reserve, we are looking for the guess closest to the last bid.
I call this the triple billing contest.
You can win one, two or all three contests.
In each case your guess must be the closest under the actual posted selling price.
HERE ARE THE RULES -
Your one single guess for each of the three vehicles must be in one single email directly to me [email protected]
Copy and paste the three cars into a single email. I have them listed as A, B, and C. Note your guess next to each letter.
A - $
B - $
C - $
Reference Mecum Auction Contest in email reference line.
You must email me direct [email protected] your one guess for each of the three noted vehicles, GNX 547, 1987 Grand National with 15,000 original miles, and the 1961 Morris Mini Minor Tow Truck.
Your email guesses must be emailed to me no later than this coming Sunday, January 8th, 2017, 6 pm eastern time.
In case of a tie,the earliest received email entry is the winner. With three different chances to win prizes, we are only awarding the first entry closest to the actual price the vehicle sells for or the posted price if it’s the GNX which has a reserve. In other words, there is no second place!
The winner in each category receives a Kirban Performance Products Gift Certificate for $50 good against any of our website parts, plus a custom-made maplewood pen case (see Photo 1 in Inner Circle issue 12-21-2016).
If the same winner has the closest guess for two of the vehicles they get two different maplewood pen with pen case, $75 certificate good for any of our website parts.
The big prize is if the same person guesses the closest on all three vehicles - besides getting the two different pen and cases $100 certificate for any of our website parts, that winner will also get an original GNX book still factory sealed in the box. The GNX book is valued at over $150!
Contest is open to everyone except those connected to any of the various Turbo Regal companies. Let the games begin! Good luck players!
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR -
I just read were the U.S. Government is investigating some Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan cars because the brake pedal may lose pressure making it hard to stop the vehicles! Three crashes have already been blamed on the braking issue. I wonder if they use a powermaster brake system.
BY THE NUMBERS - 49 SHOT 11 KILLED -
49 shot and 11 killed are the numbers of people shot and killed during this past Christmas weekend in Chicago. It’s a shame - the big news for 2016 should have been the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series for the first time in over 100 years. Instead it’s the increasing number of shootings and killings that residents of Chicago have endured for 2016.
LOOKING FOR OUR OLDEST TURBO REGAL CUSTOMER -
We recently heard from a Larry Ledford, a customer of ours from California. He is 80 years young and has been enjoying a Grand National he bought from us back in 2004, almost 13 years ago! He is curious if any of our customers is older than he is. If you are over 80 years young, drop me an email.
YOU CAN DIE FROM A BROKEN HEART -
Last week we learned that it is possible to die from a broken heart with the passing of Carrie Fisher and a day later her mom Debbie Reynolds passed away. Even if you don’t believe it’s possible, you have to admit that a broken heart can be a contributing factor.
G-BODY CARS ARE IN THE NEWS -
In the January 5th issue of Old Cars Weekly there is an article entitled, “What’s Hot and What’s Not.” The one paragraph states that 1980s cars are gaining speed. The only car the article pictured is a Grand National. The article goes on to say that the Buick Grand National series is the shining star from the 1980s. Even as other G-body cars gain value, the Grand National is the cornerstone of the market! In other words, the Grand National is a great investment. Maybe I should have kept one?
The new March issue of Car Craft features cars from the 1980s. Although the article centers mostly about the Olds Cutlass and Malibu models, the article is quick to point out the gaining popularity of the G-body cars. The more popular these cars become, the more parts become available for these cars. The article also touches on some of the Ford products.

TIP FROM KIRBAN -
We recommend replacing the interior rearview mirror. In many cases, the original interior rearview mirror may have lamination issues, usually around the base of the center of the mirror.
We have perfect used exact original rearview mirrors in stock, part #7707, for just $21.95.
Or, better yet, if you are getting ready to replace the headliner, that is the perfect time to upgrade to the lighted rearview mirror we sell, part #7708, for just $28.95. This used lighted GM mirror has been fitted with two of the LED light panels, which have better lighting over the glass bulb style format. Since it needs to be wired behind the headliner, it is best to do this upgrade when you are going to be replacing the headliner. A simple upgrade, this lighted rearview mirror is the best-looking style of the several GM offered in the 1990s. Very compact and closely resembles the stock rearview mirror.

FACTORY-STYLE BLACK TRUNK KIT (9 PIECES)
One of the very desirable options that GM offered in the Buick Regal was a fully carpeted trunk kit that also covered the spare tire and the side panels in your Regal. Besides the nice appearance, it also helps to protect the inner fender walls from being dented from any objects you would carry in the trunk.
The discontinued GM kit consisted of seven different grey pieces. We used the original pieces to develop an improved trunk kit.
We offer this trunk kit in two colors - BLACK (part #7764) or GREY (part #6510.)
NOTE - Our photo shows the GREY material trunk kit. If you are ordering from this page on the website, you would receive the BLACK trunk kit, part #7764.
Our kit consists of nine different pieces (two more pieces than GM and some have a diecut backing like factory), all of which are clearly marked, and kit comes with placement instructions.
Once installed there are no unfinished edges in your trunk, even the hinge brackets are covered.
NOTE - We are now including a special Trunk Kit Installation DVD, Part #7056 at no charge when you purchase our trunk kit.
NOTE - You may also be interested in this related grey trunk kit - #6510 Factory-style GREY Trunk Kit, 9 pieces.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

UNUSUAL FIRST TIME FIND FOR US -

As many of you probably realize, the GM Window Stickers have gotten a lot more colorful than the ones they made for our Turbo Regals.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
ABOUT OUR EMAILS -
Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. IN CLOSING - I hope everyone had a great holiday.
Soon we will post the various events and dates related to the Turbo Regals for 2017. The year 2017 marks our 30th year dealing in Turbo Regal parts. We are one of the oldest, if not the oldest, still in the business today.
